The scammers more than likely brought it just for the modded parts, took those off and just threw back on what ever they wanted to sell it.

It’s easy to see why Tim gave up on this car. The fact that you have zero dollars invested really gives you an advantage toward reconstruction costs. You should be in a pretty good position to put it back together and turn a profit. It will be interesting to see you and Jake work your magic on this one.

That engine is definitely built. At the very least it has a cam, connecting rods, ARP rod bolts and main bolts. Possibly even pistons since it also had a blower obviously. Would be worthwhile to see if it can be salvaged. Probably 2-4k in the short block alone.

You could build a long block with a new block and crank and crank bearings. It might be worth it. Then use the money to buy a car that has been hit bad in the rear and put the two together. That is one possibility for this car.

I'd be tempted to send that engine out to an engine shop and get it checked out before you tear it apart. Sure it was shoved back and the shims are probably jammed that's why it's tight but who knows? it could be a good engine. (except for all the broken bits on the far end).

Your timing chain is removed and the cam and valvetrain is still in. When you turn the crank, you are hitting the valves (which some of them are still down) onto the pistons.

Nothing is beyond repair the obstacle is cost.
I had a car years ago that was hit by a 40ton truck(semi) on the motorway (freeway) . The car was written off for scrap because the cost of the repair would have been £38K (it was all itemized in the insurance assessment). As the car was only 18-20K when new and mine was 9 years old, and at the time only worth about £900. It got a well deserved burial and the insurance duly gave me half its value as a settlement. Which was almost enough to put a set of Tyres in the car I bought to replace it.

Diesel Vette! Haha. Stick a Cummins in it. Or a V6 Porsche engine. I'm just messing with you all. It would be neat to see a Vette though with the engine from a Turbo S. Or a K24 Honda engine with a giant turbo. When you were talking about Copart scammers, where I live in Florida that is a common practice. People buy the car and take the good parts and stick in bad parts from another car then run it back through the auction.

Great video guys. I am the ultimate optimist, but could you take the crank to a machine shop to see how bad it’s bent? My first thought was that the crank would have snapped off. I was around Cummins engines in the parts dept for years. Most of the noses would snap if there was a catastrophe. A lot of the time the guys commonly called it a picture window because a rod would go through the side of the block. I know you’ve got a lot on your plate with a wedding coming up. It would be cool to see a machine shop check the crank, rods & heads. I am assuming with the broken bolt holes on the back end that the block is toast. Still, they could check the line bore. This would give the machine shop some exposure and give you another opportunity for additional content to add to a future video. As always this is your channel, you do as you see fit. See you in the next installment.
