I am glad that the judges picked her as the winner, she has the rare ability to turn some one else music into her own, I never thought Chopin could be played like this... her interpretation is out of this world
The ability, rare or not, to turn someone else's music into one's own may be an asset in the jazz repertoire but in classical music, it is not only unnecessary but deleterious. A classical pianist should be turning someone else's music (i.e., the composer's) into everyone's music (i.e., the audience's). Classical music, unlike jazz, lacks the onanistic element.
@@4Topwood I guess Seong Jin Cho the winner of 2015 Chopin Comp doesn't deserve to be called a classical musician at all because Phillipe Entremont gave him a score of 1 out of 10 in the finals. A classical musician should "turn the composer's interpretation into everyone's" right? Leonias Kavakos after winning clasical music competitions apparently should be called a Jazz musician instead because he turned Paganini's score into his by neglecting the original bowing and increasing the speed and dynamics. So don't make false statement about something you've had no education on, you should already saw what It did to America during the pandemic. Go knit or something, or actually go to a conservatory where they teach what Classical and Jazz music is, it may help you realize why Classical Conductors always argue and tell one another off over how classical works should be played, not "turning the composer's interpretation into the audience's" and why Herbie Hancock became one of the greatest Jazz musicians by improvosing his own playing on the spot, not "turning someone's asset into his own".

outstanding, memorable interpretation, i keep hearing it every month as with 956 Schubert with emerson. thank you, yulianna, hope to see you in israel too
If this girl's hands shake at any point, it is evidence of the electricity she feels while playing--said electricity which can be felt right through this UA-cam video. She is on fire. While I sometimes criticize lack of old school legato in players, I do NOT criticize this performance for any such thing. I watch her hands and listen to her tone in cantabile passages as well as allegro--in which we sometimes use a non-legato approach--and I hear and see nothing but the most scrupulous efforts at legato playing. She fingers octaves with a lot of silent changes. I'm sorry but I disagree with anybody who criticizes her for lack of legato. Kudos also go to the conductor, who follows her ornamentation spot on. My only question would be about the piano she has chosen in this competition. This could be a case of the presence of a fantastic Yamaha and a mediocre Steinway, but nothing cuts through orchestral textures like a Steinway. Would she "bear down" as much on a great Steinway as she does on this Yamaha? I don't know. As it is, her tone is drop-dead gorgeous. Another huge positive factor is that she is always in touch with every instrument that plays a solo or accompanies her. As for competitions, "winners", and "we all get a prize"--there are many ways to interpret any piece of music, and many ways to be outstanding, but the judges agreed that in this moment, she is better than anyone else. A well-deserved win! Brava, Yuliana!
I have a question. Did she actually play the wrong chord in the opening, or am I hallucinating? I'm not being critical, just want to make sure I'm not hearing things
Man, if I was preparing for this, I'd practice with random lights flickering, dogs barking, babies crying, cranky old people kvetching, firecrackers blasting, and gunshots firing!
If you listen to the 3rd stage recordings of Wunder and Avdeeva, in my opinion it is nearly impossible to say who played „better“ because it are just 2 very different ways of interpretation and each one has its right to exist. the delicacy how Wunder is painting the different colors in the 3rd movement is not lesser than Avdeevas sophistication of articulation or her polyphonic sculpturing. maybe it would be worth considering (@Chopin Institute) a shared 1st prize for such difficult situations in the future as it‘s already common practice in 2nd prize section, because if both of them are TOP in my opinion it’s unavoidable to pass injustice in the final outcome.
In such disputable cases, some secondary measures should decide. Like accuracy (yes, this is the most superior contest at the end of the day), or public reception. Despite Wuder being superior in these two, Avdeeva seems to markup her probable preparation deficiencies by unusual, straight out of score interpretations like overprolonged rubatos and tempo collapses for instance. This markups are visible throughout all her stages, it bothered me personally a lot - awkward in key passages, overly progressive interpretations decoupled from Chopin's era and background. Again, Wunder seemed to really take a tough lesson to approach Chopin properly - his renditions in turn, whether it's mazurka, polonaise or etude, sound coherent and thought over. For me it's a scandal that Wunder missed 1st prize. Some opinions argued that he exaggerated and theatralized. This is untrue in my opinion, this guy unleashed real love and passion for Chopin.
I just realized, at 13 minutes, the lights in the hall go out during a stressfull piano passage, and Avdeeva doesn't miss a single note. Wow.
at the beginning, like during 4-5th minutes lights faded away a few times. Wonder what happened
Almost as good as Valentina Lisitsa’s exploding Beethoven

What an amazing performance!! A true masterpiece!
every notes is emotional . wonderful , perfect !
Great pianist. Great piece.
Magically beautiful. She’s a goddess.
Segundo movimento é indescritível. Não dá para dizer nada. FANTÁSTICO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just love Yulianna's intelligent interpretations!
Absolument merveilleux, Chopin a son meilleur. Bravo Yulianna.
UN SINNUMERO DE PAISAJES Y EMOCIONES EN ESTE HERMOSO CONCIERTO QUE SON PINTADOS MARAVILLOSAMENTE POR AVDEEVA EN EL LENGUAJE UNIVERSAL DE LA MUSICA EN EL PARA MI MAS COMPLETO INSTRUMENTO QUE NUNCA JAMAS SERA SUPERADO QUE ES EL PIANO
Fabulous!breathtaking&thrilling!!
Czysta wirtuozeria Chopinowska; brawo!!!
I can't imagine how many times she played it not to make any mistakes.Dedication!
Amazing! In a concert you can make mistake as long as you keep the passion. However in a competition, you have to be perfect with full passion and zero mistake. Chopin and Tchaikovsky Competition are the most prestigious and consist of many prodigy pianist around the world.
Wonderful!
great performance by a great artist.

The Best . you can feel it .
Listening to her performance, I feel like looking into a kaleidoscope of sounds.
Musically and much brilliant! (Chopin´s music is beautiful, as usual!)
Yes, of course.
Fantasie !She is Master❤️
Finally good quality, so much better than 1st upload of this concerto
Yes, of course
I watched couple of videos on her channel. She's lovely and beautiful apart from being obviously a wonderful pianist.
impeccable performance! Well deserved champion!!
I'm not being critical, just want to make sure I'm not hearing things
this video is great!
13:01 this would mess with me if I was playing XD
XD
She did an amazing job!!! I thought I saw the lights flicker. I was like "What the heck!"
Man, if I was preparing for this, I'd practice with random lights flickering, dogs barking, babies crying, cranky old people kvetching, firecrackers blasting, and gunshots firing!
chopin's ghost
Imagine how tiring that day was.
Astonishing perfect performance. Then at 34:00 it just got better.
Most beautifully played romance
I prefer Yundi from 2000. His rubato is more poignant..
Especially in the romance.
Yulianna Avdeeva
lowe 💗💗💗💗
Esta mujer ejerce una técnica maravillosa...! Gracias por permitirnos escucharla y verla.

Great performance!
