What’s so inspiring that Ingolf had his first piano lesson at age 14, 2 years older than Kissin was when he played both Chopin piano concertos back to back.
Just goes to show that it is possible to catch up even if you’re a late beginner!
However, he knew the musical language since he was a child, because he played the violin when he was younger, he had musical knowledge. Although it is impressive to get a such award playing the piano from an "advanced age for a professional musician".
When the applause starts before the final cadence, you know it was amazing.
Same place, but 5 years earlier at the end of Mr Blechacz's performance, the applause was greater... it never happened before.
Where was that part?

Marek Ciepluch that video was blocked in my country! I can’t watch it 😵
@@loopymomy2532 What a pitty. In my opinion this is the best performance there is of this concerto. And the final applause was well deserved.
When the audience starts applauding you before the piece is even finished you know you've done one hell of a job playing it.
They did the same thing for Rafal Blechacz in 2005.
assindiastignani both deserved it
@@assindiastignani Zimerman too
That depends on the audience!
One of the best performances ever of the Chopin 1!!! Ingolf should have won !!
Did you hear the whole competition performance of the winner?
I don't think so, because when I watch Yulianna's videos, in the comments people approve of her winning and say they don't understand why people say she didn't deserve it,now I go to Ingolf Wunder's videos, people say that he would have won and not Yulianna, everyone says something, it seems that nobody saw the performances, but I also sometimes had doubts, but I had already heard everything, I heard all the stages of the finalists, I think Yulianna avdeeva won the third stage with an extremely difficult programming and an unparalleled sonata, I believe that her winning also has to do with her captivating sound on the Yamaha, even tiring the ears a little due to the left hand and bass power, and Ingolf Wunder killed it in the final, in addition to having played the best polonaise, an absurd technique, Both were incredible interpreters and authentic, but if the person still has doubts about something, he probably didn't watch everything like me to draw conclusions.
I think he knew, at some point in the third movement, that this was an epic performance. You can see the confidence.
David Streeter the third movement it’s the key to win
yet still he lost which literally makes no sense
Avdeeva won because she had best points from whole stages, sad but true. And ofc Argerich wanted her to win :)
@@devirezxz Argerich wanted avdeeva to win? I thought I heard she didn't want avdeeva to win. Idk but someone said she wanted either wunder or trifonov to win.
the years pass and I get even more convinced that he is the real winner of the Chopin competition
Absolutely amazing and I love him, I think his should have won this competition 👍👌👏😍
Agree with you
je pense la même chose!
What an artist. Absolutely breathtaking. The audience couldn't till the orchestra had played it's last note. Fantastic. What a pianist!
0:00 Allegro Maestoso
19:37 Romanze - Larghetto
28:51 Rondo - Vivace
Thank you!
It's the best performance of this concert I've ever heard!
The third movement is unbelievably crisp and clear
I am one of those that is more attracted to his pianism than to that of the first-prize winner. His Andante Spiamato and Grand Polonaise was just mind-boggling, heart- breaking, and tears- dropping.
Just so.
*I think he is real 1st prize*
He came second. That’s because he didn’t come first. Go and find middle C on the keyboard you dumb ass.
@@MultiRedskins12 what? Why are you so pressedT?
Daniel Peranginangin Why can’t you spell?
@@MultiRedskins12 lol you're stupid
MultiRedskins12 Why are you a bitch?
He absolutely deserved that astounding applause. What an extraordinary performance. Many of the pianists nowadays make odd facial expressions - but Wunder ‘s are joyful.
You're right. Seeing him so happy, expecially during the 3rd movement, puts a smile on my face
What a brilliant performence! He's interpretation and expression is amazing. He should have won the 2010 competition.!!! ^^b
An apparently underrated pianist.
The clear winner
Hands down, one of my favorite pianists! Amazing performance by an amazing pianist on an amazing piano!
During the last competition I have listened to 9th minor concerts and ended the evening with Ingolf Wunder's interpretation from the final 2010 and been moved to tears once again because it is impossible to play it more beautiful, more joyful, more sensitive and honest. Ingolf Wunder is an amazing artist. This is an epic performance indeed.
The last 3 min were so epic! What a rondo indeed.
Not even last 3 min! This is the best Concerto E-moll in history.
Chopin's soul is full with him, can't understand why he didn't win the prize. The whole play was "Chopin", not "Ingolf Wunder".
I think the gist to play Chopin is to think that you are Chopin, not the one just playing the piano.
Many players play themselves instead of Chopin.
What an extraordinary artist!
His long beautifully legato phrasing, full of nuance and color, reminds me of Gilels's interpretation of this same Concerto. So moving, a pleasure watch.
Bravissimo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
18:58, wipes his mouth in time and with the feeling of the music. Wow! Intense!
Unbelievably powerful, beautiful, accurate. Hate to admit that I only recently discovered Wunder, as I investigate stars from prior Chopin Competitions who were not given the First Prize. Does not matter, the enormous talent is his, he will continue to shine even more to our delight!!!
One of the touchstones of the literature - all the greats have made legendary performances of it. I'm a fan of Wunder. How great it must have been to have had a performance like this. As good as he is he's probably not had many nights like this one. I listen to it often.
He is the best concerto 3rd movement player ever!
@@kurasfx1720 yes one of the worst competitions ever I have experienced
@@kurasfx1720 i think you didnt get the point. Of course not and im talking about the 2010 competition only.
@@kurasfx1720 dont talk about the politics matters and hope we concentrate on the music topic. The concerto is the final piece and that is played at the final stage. Ingolf was the best concerto playet and score showed his greatness in the total point, however, rules have changed within the compeition period out of sudden and the final result came out for her winning.
Absolutely transcendent performance. So difficult to capture the spirit of this piece. Displaying the virtuosity without losing the gracefulness of the phrases is such a challenge. He was completely in the moment for every passage without losing sight of the larger gestures. Can't believe he didn't win, but his playing is celebrated regardless of what a panel of judges say. Also, can't help but think of Tom Hulce in Amadeus when I see the childlike glee in his face as he plays.
Exactly. Because Chopin demands virtuosic technique but also a very intimate interpretation. My view is that Ingolf Wunder won, the judges refused to recognize that to suit an agenda that has nothing to do with music.. And certainly he has had a distinguished career since. His playing is revelatory.
@@4Topwood And what agenda ? This is a competition with several rounds, it's about whole Chopin, not just a concerto...
@@Luxsword29 An "inclusive" political agenda. This is my last reply to you. As you say, it's about Chopin--or should be. Too bad this time it wasn't.
@@4Topwood Adveeda got better marks at every round of the competition. Wunder came 2nd cause he was not as good on other rounds as with this concerto. Nothing to do with the fact she's a woman, though for once it was a woman, she got her victory tarnished by sexists and people for whom a 2nd prize was not enough for Wunder. It's not an inclusive agenda byt the competition, it's a sexist one by too many people.
@@Luxsword29 i saw every of those performances, she came 1st in the previous stage but he was the one who deserved it imo. I prefered every of his performance to avedeeva ones
His performance throughout this competition was just outstanding. I just listened to Yulianna and Triifinov back to back. She was technically excellent and just a safe interpretation. Triifinov was just too fast. It impresses too many people. Chopin’s magnificent melodies and polyphony are lost for all the speed. There’s no time for your brain to absorb the stunning composition. Wunder is brilliant. From the first note - it’s lush, full, singing beautiful, clear, elegant, exciting. And you hear Chopin all the way through the performance. It’s a gorgeous interpretation that still is faithful to Chopin’s own ethos.
Ditto!
Absolutely true!
for me it's the best performance of piano concerto since 2010.
Very enjoyable 3rd movement! He really deserved to get first place.
JUST AMAZING. Deserves a standing ovation.
SO FAST, yet so PERFECT and so TOUCHING.
absolutely a great performance !
Cudowny artysta i wspaniały człowiek.
wonderful...beaufiful...best one ever!!
The best in 2010, he should have won
For all of you who love this but haven’t discovered Chopin’s ‘Third Concerto’, the Op.46 in its full beauty yet, search for the orchestrated version by Ingolf Wunder. It’s magnificent!
11:41 - 13:29 . . . development section into the tutti recapitulation . . . just get the gear off because you will not see control and precision like that anywhere. Absolutely stunning. How did this guy not win?
It's fantastic! Either the music comes down from heavens, or I am being taken to heavens by it!
Beautiful person wrote such beautiful words
The greatest expression I've heard so far... what a magical interpretation!
Finally @chopininstitute! Much appreciated
Final stage is not joking, I can't believe he can be that peaceful... what a great man! I can see those tears when he's *playing* :')
Wuder is wunderbar the best all of them. No discussion.
This and trifonov's are the most outstanding performances
Trifonov’s was terrible.
@@ilovemycatrussell9298 too many mistakes
how did he not win first place? he hit all the right phrases, albeit a bit too fast at some places but he has more expression with higher highs and lower lows

6:55 listen to the orchestra in the back, it is heart breaking.

Thank you Ingolf for this brilliant interprétation oh Chopin's concerto in E minor, Op 11 ♫♫♫♫ Josy Mikusinski
The best technique of the 2010 competition.
I always lose track of the tempo at least once during the whole performance when I listen to this concerto and the only time it didn't happen is with him, also from what I heard he is the only one who knows how to use the sustain pedal without distorting the melody
Thanks Chopin Institute!
I've been waiting for this for years!

Maybe it's my opinion, but he's one of the best chopin pianist
Caraca... Que clareza e definição, tranquilidade e técnica...😲
This is a magical and exhilarating performance.
Wow! I am hearing and visualizing glittery notes!!!

Oh! so beautiful Chopin Concerto No.1. I would love to listen to Wunder's articulation veryvery much.especialy grace mote just in time is so natural and beautiful, like sparkling star in a split second. and also more his singing passages is so dreamy and graceful rhythm which is supported by natural tempo. agogyk is at the best.(91yrs.Japanese) I hear "Beethoven said Tempo is Music"
THE BEST
Trans = A piano that flows beautifully while changing nuances. Orchestra, sound, all images.
Wonderful beautiful 👏👏
I loved how he was trying to do vibratto on some of the notes! I try to do that too.
this man gives me hope…He started the piano(after the violin) at age 14, but I mean, piano may not have as much difference musicality as much from violin, but the technique is another world. I myself started at 12 (pretty late) 2 years ago, and sometimes question if i’ll ever be as good as these great pianists despite my late start.
The best
Festiwal w Radziejowicach. Słuchałem Ingolfa dzisiaj, słuchałem Armellini parę dni temu.
Leonorze jeszcze dużo brakuje do Ingolfa muzycznie jak i technicznie.
What a talent! Wow!
Earth-shattering eargasm!
Dziękuję za ogromną pracę i poświęcenie.
If you listen to the 3rd stage recordings of Wunder and Avdeeva, in my opinion it is nearly impossible to say who played „better“ because it are just 2 very different ways of interpretation and each one has its right to exist. the delicacy how Wunder is painting the different colors in the 3rd movement is not lesser than Avdeevas sophistication of articulation or her polyphonic sculpturing. maybe it would be worth considering (@Chopin Institute) a shared 1st prize for such difficult situations in the future as it‘s already common practice in 2nd prize section, because if both of them are TOP in my opinion it’s unavoidable to pass injustice in the final outcome.

Amazing rondo
Definitely he is real WINNER!!!
The winner was and is Mrs. Yulianna Avdeeva because she deserved it. It was Martha Argerich, who was a member in the jury and she has learned how to use her ears and intellect.
@@prokastinatore i don't know, if almost everyone thinks he deserved to win, than, there is a reason
@@_ydhdh9340Many of the competitors deserved to win because they are all wonderful in different ways. Him and Yulianna were both amazing, but there could only be one winner and the jury liked Yulianna better. That’s just how competitions are. But both of them have successful careers and global recognition, and not just them, but many other great competitors too in this competition. So in a way, everyone was a winner.

"Wunderful"!!
Wow 🤔
It is quite sad to see that even in a Chopin competition, politics still resides. Wunder's performance was superior to Avdeeva's in every and all criteria.
maybe she slept with the judges haha
Not to detract from Yulianna's accomplishment. But "TPTB" might have reined in the PC!
Wunders and Geniasus tio!
her performance was also great and she was great at all stages of the competition. wunder deserved his concerto prize, but not the 1st prize.
In comparison with Yulianna Avdeeva, Wunder is amateur! He is very predictable and dryasdust! Yulianna is true master of piano!
he should have won....
Yes, of course, this concert could not possibly be played any better. Mr. Wunder is SUPERB, but he comes from the "wrong" ethnic background. He is not Polish, not Russian, not Jewish, nor is he Asian, so how could "they" POSSIBLY have ever even CONSIDERED letting him win? I know that's an ugly thing to say, but I feel deep in my bones that it must be true. Van Cliburn's 1958 victory in Moscow, must have been a FLUKE, and then look how shabbily he was treated ever afterward. Avdeeva is an excellent player, but she is physically unattractive, and has a rather grim, too businesslike platform manner that totally lacks charisma. Unlike Ingolf Wunder's infectious enthusiasm for his task and full-blooded, unabashed "glorying in the flower," there is no evidence of JOY in Avdeeva's playing. Yes of COURSE Ingolf Wunder should have won. But the world is what it is, and always will be, I'm afraid. Have you heard Aljosa Jurinic yet? If not, you're in for a treat.
Also, females haven't won for decades. They would like to have a female winner to show political correctness. I strongly support gender or racial equality but I hate any kind of gender or racial influence in a competition. In my opinion, the same thing happened in 2017 Oscar, too (Moonlight won because of its racial background). Isn't letting the minority win a kind of bias itself?
Oh, there's also another thing worth mentioning. One of the jury in the competition is once Mr. Wunder's teacher. Maybe they gave him 2nd because they didn't want to be considered as flavoring a jury's student.
Such nasty things said here.
葉宗融 do you have the score in that year?
For that one minute from 36:07, he is in the realm of the gods.
Bravissimo

Grande sentimento
I certainly am far from the status of “judge” so far as these exalted piano competitions go. But, I perceive I am free to go where the “spirit of inspiration” lists? Ole Albert Einstein was quoted as saying “If I am cut off from the understanding and the sympathies of others I am also free from their opinions and prejudices.” These competitions are evidently “Blood sport” but the spectre of politics always strikes me as particularly guttersnipe maneuvering. Chopin certainly would not approve. I don’t know; but I DO know I am an ardent music lover “Music expresses wordless odysseys”. PWG. P.S. This is one of the most exciting interpretations I have enjoyed in recent memory.
Brillante 37:00 it's really my favorite part.
First Prize goes to Cho and Li.
Clearrr🎉
In 2010, Polish politicians died in the Smolensk crash, and at first everyone thought Putin had killed them, so everyone was scared. After the proclamation of the results, the audience started whistling. It has never been like this in the history of the competition.
The best for this concerto: Kissin, Wunder, Zimerman, Trifonov
I would put Zimerman first and Seong-Jin Cho somewhere in the middle
EDIT: Nowadays I would put Zimerman first and Blechacz second.
