I inked with a #2 watercolor brush for Marvel years ago. Started with Windsor Newton, but found that their quality degraded, so I switched to Scharff Series 3000 finest sables, which are amazing. I love watching other inkers work, because I understand the decisions being made and always think things like "Huh, I would have done THAT THING, THIS WAY". Great video. Excellent brushwork. Reminds me of some of the greats from the 70's.
I did end up buying a few Scharff 3000s...and I agree, they're pretty nice. I'm probably going to incorporate them as my main brush going forward. Thanks for the kind words, Ted.

Hi Shane! Thank you so much for this video it's inspiring. I'm in the midst of creating my comic, and about to pick up some strathmore. What about pencil lines though? How do we erase these because in my experience the kneaded eraser is the only eraser I use for "erasing" any pencil marks. This is incredible artwork! You are a fantastic artist.
That's very kind of you to say. Thank you.
Would love to see more like this. Awesome Wally Wood-like 50s sci-fi by the way.
Thanks and I'm hoping to come up with a few more of these soon.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
I'm very Impressed, no rulers, no circle-ellipse templates, not even french curves either!
Great homage to Wally Wood and all "Weird Science and Weird Fantasy comics" artists heroes!!
Thanks. When I'd learned years ago that Joe Sinnott would ink entire cityscape splash pages with a brush freehand I thought that was the gold-standard. So I went for it.
HOLY SHIT..You're an AMAZING INKER!
Thank you.
I could watch this all day.
You have a great skill.
Thank you, Jawara.
i like your system of putting up a few written comments as the video goes along. works well and answers nerdy questions people have
Thank you. And you’d still be surprised how many people ask what INK and BRUSH I use and it’s the first thing I introduce. 🤣
Shane, you are an inking god. Never let anyone tell you different.
+Vern Hestand III That's very kind. But when you sit next to guys like Mike Royer and Bob McCleod at comic shows you realize how much you really have to learn.
Amazing and beautiful!
This is phenomenal! Absolutely gorgeous work and just straight up visually soothing to watch get done.
That's kind of you to say. Thanks.
Olá, sou do Brasil e achei este canal por acaso. Muito bacana este vídeo. Ilustrar a nankim assim é preciso ter bastante experiência e uma mão firme. Parabéns pelo trabalho!

beautiful, thanks for sharing. I really loved that. I used to draw all the time when I was younger. kinda fell out of it when this computer drawing work came in. got busy with work, etc. but i always loved pen and ink. over the last few months I been thinking about making the time to start again just for myself . thanks shane that video was all I needed. wonderful flowing art
+jason kelly Thanks for watching. There's never a better time to make you mark than now.

You sir did a really appealing attractive inmersive piece of art!
the angle and foreshortening on this piece is amazing!
+Emma McCoy Thanks.
Really impressed. Very hard to master is the brush... just waig for more of this stuff, I'd love to see in regular motion. A lot of thanks for share, master.
TurboPork Thank you for watching. More to come...sometime in July I hope.
That will be awesome. Thanks a lot :)
Beautiful
The spacey music fits the space theme lol. Amazing work!
I need more videos like this in my life
music is perfect for the image! and nice work with the brush.
+downeybill Thanks for that and thanks for watching.
Can I ask how you ink the frame or border? I wondered what traditionally was used to do inking of borders? A dip pen? Love this work...reminds me of the wonderful spaceship interiors of Wally Wood...your brush work is impressive...it is not easy to control...let alone the concentration of such a big piece...thanks for sharing, and inspiring. 🙂
Your channel content is great.
