Dude Thankyou for the lesson. I converted my 1 car garage into a paint shop. I’m working on my 3rd car now this year. I would love to see more videos! I want to learn as much as possible. Your videos have pretty much been the only in depth videos I’ve found that have helped me. Keep making videos. MY FRIEND PETE. 💪
Cool
Pete reminds me of my father, tuffs as nails. Hard as rocks. Don’t play no shit, sucks my dad passed in 09 . Keep up the great body work Pete. Helped me while painting and doing body work on my civic . Hard works comes with a smart mouth lol.
My name is Cynthia and I'm on my boyfriend Tommy's phone as he has asked me to do this for him he is legally blind with very limited almost no eye sight however I have recently gotten him a 66 barracuda that oh boy is a complete project it will probably take him a life time or not either way you are without a doubt the only one that he has been able to understand and I as well as him wanna say thank you for your videos we haven't started it yet as we are watching these back to back so that he gets this right you made a huge impact on him on UA-cam and it brings tears of joy to see this with him thank you for touching so many lives most importantly making an impact on my guy being able to have the drive to wanna do what Tommy wants with this barracuda is because of your videos God bless
Probably one of if not the best no nonsense straight to the point common sense plain and simple understandable body guy on UA-cam for beginners or professionals. Thanks for all the info and tips and tricks
You’re the boss. Straight up clean work and colorful commentary. Doing my own DIY on my sports car and consider your site the best. Keep ‘em coming.
Thank you so much for making these videos. Not only do you give the best body repair videos, but also the life advice you give is priceless
I am a person that always had problems with working bondo and now I no why, thanks so much! You explained it like an auto body whisperer. I feel very comfortable and confident taking on the quarter panel on my 84 z28, P.S. go easy on the youngster we have all been there "young grasshoppers know it all ". The knowledge he is learning will bless him the rest of his life, . Rick and snoopy. Thanks so much, well explained.
You are the best I’ve seen so far I’m doing my 67 Chevelle now I’m 65 years old. Been sitting for 25 years.
Restoring a 66 merc. And your vids are by far the best on the internet on bodywork. Love the fact that you dont try to sell and push products either. Thanks . From canada
Ray It makes it better to sniff out the shit talkers.
Really? Thats interesting, tell me more?
Pete's nose is awesome reminds me of my ol marine drill instructors when they'd get after ya he can smell a pile bullshit a mile away thats why he's showing ya the right way
Former Marine here myself and I stand corrected. Pete is awesome.
Nice work Pete but why are you such a fucking ass hole to your son. One day that little fucker is going to beat your ass... Haha. Seriously though. Nice work. Great tips.
Pete I never usually leave messages. But I have to say you are by far the best online teacher. I’ve have been restoring a 1971 Vw karmann ghia. And I love watching your shows from start to finish on doing it right, l love you candid approach and consciousness approach. I have passed on on many of your techniques to friends and my small face book page on my own restoration. I am blessed to have found your videos. Because without you I would never have had had the balls to go a full restoration on the ghia. Thank you Pete for taking the time and effort to making these many videos. I know it takes a lot of work. Michael
That's what I call perfection, brother especially on something that long man, I learned
a valuable lesson about taking your time and having pride in your work ,I'll keep watching you keep teaching brother
So so so glad i came across this , restoring a superbird for my dad. My second paint job, has damage on both quarters, this will be the best thing i could see before going to town on this huge car..
Body work is an art, and you have the gift.
NICE VEGA....
Best helper you have ever had...It was perfect when you advised him his low spot was still a high spot.
Thank you for making these videos they are very helpful. I have worked for years in many trades. Worked with old school German, Romanian, Japanese, tradesmen. The one thing you and they all have in common. There are no shortcuts, perfection is unattainable. That is no reason not to try to attain it. It takes time, perseverance and hard work. EFFORT. thanks will keep watching
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge Pete learning from all your videos. Greetings from Finland.
Your camera guy/helper here was the best I've seen you have yet
You really help me with all my questions. The way you go in to details is the best I've found. Thanks Pete
I love your technical terminology. When you say things like whole big piece of section really shows your knowledge of automobiles
Nicely done! I've learned how to work on my vehicles thanks to your channel!
So much so that my friend asked ME for body work advice. My advice was I sent him to your channel!
Thanks Pete. Cheers from Maine
Hi Pete great video thank you for taking your time explaining everything in details big thumbs up for you
Thanks Pete! The end result on that GTO clearly shows that you know your stuff!
Love your show man got an old 55 Chevy I'm working on I build it 46 years ago turned 60 trying to do it again been a mechanic for the last 40 years trying to learn about body work again thanks for all your advice and stuff love you love everything about you man thanks
Sculpting filler is an art. Its like being Michael Angelo of body filler. Your hand is your eye while working filler. We jokingly called the guide coat "Blind Mans Coat". Straightened a van side once. Made a long block out of an 6 ft 2x4. Two man block. Worked good. I love your channel.
Doing my very first bondo/paint job on a tail gate of a 2002 Tundra. Great video. At age 64, always good to learn something. I've got other older vehicles and I just might do my own body work on them. Thanks Pete and 940! The screen shot at 46:30 needs to be on a Tshirt
Thanks for the education. I have been working on cars for many years and "Bondo" work has always been my weak point. Thank you .
I love this channel. I'm getting ready to start my 76 monte carlo. Thank you.
I love that your 100% real
I'm building a 73 rivi I'm going to call "22 a day" to bring awareness to veteran suicides. Doing 99% of the work myself.
Your video was very helpful. Thank you
Another Great lesson!! Never miss class!
I watch alot of paint videos on here...many are shot in more than perfect conditions........good to see some proper grass roots bodywork.....with excellent results....
Thanks Adrian... Best of luck on your projects!
Your awsome like the way you folded the paper
Your videos helped me to make my girlfriends shitkicked 97 grand cherokee into something beautiful. She hasnt seen it yet but i'm bringing it to her place today. Spent over 90 hours in the past week on it.
I didn't know how important it was to use sand blocking and how to use sand blocking. Thank you so much. I'm now subscribed.
I noticed on every UA-cam video I watch I have to turn the volume up all the way but not when I'm watching "my friend Pete". Why is that? LOL
Love the videos!!!
Probably edited the audio file before uploading it.
Love watching all your videos. I've learned a whole lot over the past year! 💪🏽💯
I learned Pete is a giant prick in the first 3 minutes.
Wawawa poor baby pete hurt your feelings call mommy!!
Appreciate the details and transparency. Quality & work ethic is always better than excuses. Thanks
I'm 67 and learning a lot! Thanks
Hi Pete your videos are very informative.
A little more info on welding would be great but appreciate all the info that your videos provide.
Love the straightforward and positive attitude.
Thanks Pete keep up the great work!
Love your videos MFP!
7:05 lol you actually laugh in the shop 😊 never thought id see that with another person.
My Friend Pete is the best, thanks for creating and taking the time for us!
Like he says my friend Pete!!! I think he's hilarious 😂😂😂 take a chill pill y'all. It's all in good humor.
To Pete, I thought you take you dent down with 80 to bare medal lay your filler, flatten with 36, then 80, then move to 180.
Can you maybe make a video that does step per step on grits the whole process. From dent, to prime, to seal, to paint all the grits you need.
Depending on the shape of the paint, there's not necessarily any reason to go down to bare metal
Very good video ,one thing I noticed was what grit sandpaper was used on the fish sanding ???
Thank you for the no nonsense tips and information. Patience is the name of the game, spend the right money where it counts, take your time, have fun and love what you do. You have given me the confidence to tackle the body work I've always wanted to do on my restoration project. I've watched dozen's of your videos and keep them in my back pocket as I embark on finishing up my '68 GTO.
Hahaha!!! Love how you guys keep it real. No bullshit sugar coat snowflake talk. Just real honest fun!
I'm currently in the process of restoring an 87 GMC suburban with 4" lift and 35's.
What a project... I don't have the funds to replace panels, doors, and rockers yet, BUT,,, I got it to bare metal, apoxy primed it black , 3 coats, and that alone looks good:) so yeah, my first project, learning as I go through UA-cam and lots of reading.
Gonna have to settle for fiberglass holes, rockers, ect.
Just buying time..
Gonna be carbon flash black for color.
It's turning out pretty good sofar thanks to guys like you teaching us the tips and tricks!
Thank you for keeping it real and keeping it old school!
If u want to remove the low and hi spots in the surface of the body filler to make it flat and straight, specially if you are making the character line of the body, u must use a hard block. Flexible block is not the right choice. Flexible block is good in shaping concave areas. Hard block has even surface cutting compared to the flexi block that when u put pressure in it, it bends. And there's a tendency that you are cutting more in the area where u put a lot of pressure than the rest of the flexiblock that's going to turn to low spots again.
Pete is old school His methods are the best. I learnt these moves fifty years ago when I served my time.as an apprentice.
exactly hard block people are lazy and cant handle the weight of a hard block thats why they always use those flexible blocks .people dont realize the blocks hr is using are made to block primer out only they are painters blocks
@@mjg50550 I have a 36" hard plastic block that uses Velcro paper, I also have a 12in hard block in addition to the regular 5 or 6 inch long hard blocks.
The Bob Ross of Auto Body
Perfect description!!!
Thank you Pete for teaching patience, you also have learned the feel of sanding the bondo, that is a skill of it's own.
Thanks Pete. Restoring my 72 Mustang. So many good how to videos along with explanations. You have been a great source of knowledge.
He’s not yelling he’s just talking loud it’s a military thing lol.
@ the navy apparel is from his son
Lol closet clown 940 hey Pete what grit of sandpaper should I use to scuff paint for primer
I would use 180 dry then go back over it with some 320 dry and it should be ready for paint... THanks for watching..
marcus hinks 100 grit
@3G Craftsman no not 320 before primer. 180 before applying filler primer, then 320 before paint
Just wanted to say thank you Pete for all the time and effort you put into these videos. I appreciate it more than you know.
I'm about to paint my car and this was a very great video to watch before to. Thanks!
My positive attitude says you should be nicer to your helper.
Totally disagree . Your helper should have his ass kicked more often. NO mampy pampy shit in your life. best way for him to learn .I served my apprenticeship with the best screamers and nutters in the business. BUT they taught me skills that have served me well and never forgotten.
Way too dramatic.
Quite knowledgeable.
We get the emphasis. We don't need the emotion.
Guys a fucking dick head. They both are. They're meant for each other.
It's just the way he acts. If you pay attention, he's really a good guy and him + the helper get along swell.
Pete really is a good guy , this drama some call it is just an act for the you tube channel , one of the only ones that show you not only every step but the tools and materials he uses while he is working in his real shop trying to make a living ! Honestly I don't know how he does it all
I bet you Limpy could use his Wooden Leg to get that Panel Right!
Pete, I dig your school. I’m a trucker on the road day dreaming about what I could be doing on my 64 Cadillac if I were home. I watch your videos all day and use your knowledge when I get home. You are fun to watch and very helpful in my “situation “.

Finally someone on UA-cam who knows what time it is.
Thanks for doing what you do. I've been working on my 99 dodge 3500. Yes painting it black and many are shocked at how well it's turning out. Especially since I've never done this before. I used black for my guide coat and found I'm much farther along than I thought I was. Thanks for the lessons
Very best instructed video keep shooting real and keeping it real for hard headed slow learners like myself
This is an incredible video. Haven't regretted a second of watching
My friend Pete, I respect in ever thing that you have taught me in which I'm doing some body work on my truck. Let's just say that your my mentor and I follow everything you explain in why this way is the best way as well as showing me what you are explaining. Thanks Pete!
This is the best lesson I have ever watched. Makes me reason sharply like a pro. My station wagon's body work will be done at my doorstep the next time I want it fixed. The pieces of advise which you spare time to give are spot-on, Pete
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP IVE WATCHED YOU FOR YEARS AND HAVE NEVER COMMENTED ON ANYTHING BUT YOU HAVE DONE MORE TO HELP ME THAN ANYTHING I HAVE EVER SEEN
My daughter and I are doing our first paint job on her jeep. Thanks much for the info and the time you spent making these for people like us.

Great video thanks for al the tips you give in all of your videos pete I appreciate them greatly!
Great refresher vidio for when your not doing this kind of work every day. Thanks Pete.
Thank you. Its hard to find someone who really knows what there doing. I've had my truck painted for the 3rd time. I could of done a poor job myself for a lot less money the 1st time. Im willing to do hard dirty jobs and capable of doing many things but have not tried my hand at body and paint. I've got a couple monzas and Vegas I'm going to do body and paint myself. After watching your videos I know it will turn out a lot better !
I took a small auto finish class years ago and one of the first thing he showed us was how useful it was to feel the panel. He kept saying " feel the panel when sanding just like when you are feeling a ladies bum " Your videos are fantastic. You are a great teacher! He said you want it to feel smooth just like a ladies bum.
My Friend Pete... I love that thing that you do... What a great help you are...
Working myself up to a DIY job on my 70 Challenger. Your videos are invaluable.
I like Pete because he is a real. Restoring my 03 Dakota RT. I like his tips. Thanks Pete!!!!
I dig the relationship between you and your protege. Old school. Raise em' right. Good times
Thanks Pete for taking the time to do your videos... thumbs up
Love watching your videos, been watching for over a year and a half now and learned a great deal from them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge you'd be surprised how much we can learn from each other.
Right after it was primed, I only saw one very minor "bondo bulge" right in the middle of the panel, between the back wheel opening and tail light area, just above mid panel height - in the same place where Pete added some extra filler and blocked it out with the little block "staying only on the filled area".
Considering the gray rainbow he had to deal with first, in order to even get into primer and not have those layers show through, this method was the only real way to remedy that situation before going any further.
Anyway, long block sanding with a fine grade paper on the finished primer coat before painting definitely would've slicked out any remaining slight ripples for a truly flawless panel.
This is a man who knows exactly what he's doing at every point in the game because he learned the hard way, which is a good teacher.... only if you're a quick learner. Doing it right means getting your mind ready to accept the rewards and the consequences of every action made between your eyes and hands.
In the real world cause and effect still rules the day and either makes you a paycheck or a cardboard sign for the Walmart parking lot. The only substitute for hard work is smart work!
Very hard for a novice to match up and level out what Pete was dealing with here, but the same techniques he used to show the proper fix can be applied by any student to any panel job where filler is needed.
Thanks again Pete!
Thanks Pete for your tips i find them very helpful,it's been a great help on my 1969 c10 project truck.

Found her in the junk yard for $500. Built a beefed up 350 and paired her with a 350 turbo trans. Now turning my attention to the body. Your channel will def come in handy! Thank you for your expertise! Hopefully you are right about it working out in the end lol.

My friend Pete Your friend Pete that was an excellent vidjeo that had at least 1/2 dozen very important lessons that are needed to do bodywork properly. I have only done one car (73 Pontiac TA) but on my second one (77 TA) and these tips in this video are going to help me get straight ;). You rock dude, and for those who think he's tough on his help, well, get a thicker skin. Keep the vids comin Pete!
