Check the haldex pump, they are super common even on the newer stuff, only held in by two small bolts, you will probably find the gauze in it is all gunked up too
When you get the transfer box off and open it up, check the the bevel gear on the output shaft to see if its spinning when it shouldn't, ive seen this before but on a newer s3. Worth a check but you'll need a way to clamp it then try turning it. Keep up the good work 👍
I have the same running gear in a B6 Passat estate. My Haldex controller messed up after 6 months - the abs, traction control & awd didn't work.... (£853 from the R32 OC for a new one) think yours will be the diff I'm afraid. Good luck with it. Love the channel - keep up the great work!!
Had the same thing with my rs3 earlier this year with the transfer box had gone. I ended up getting a replacement transfer box off the part number off the case. They seem to be fitted to a wide range of cars. I know the rs3 one is the same as a Tiguan diesel and a few others.

Remove the large aluminium support plate to get better access to transfer case, you need a very long extension to get to the bolt which holds the shaft from inside transfer box
You have to take the transfer box out to remove the gearbox just like audi tt's it may well need a rebuild or you may be able to part ex it for another one

If it's anything like the 1.8T which it should be, you can take the transfer box off without removing gearbox, just remember to get 2 new rubber o-rings
Ah man. Was going to be so simple and ended up a lot more work. I'm enjoying the fault diagnosis though cause I have a B7 Quattro with a noisy rear diff. There's a slight clunk when pulling away after car has been sat for some time. There's a clunk from the rear when turning hard. I'm not sure whether to just change it out for a second hand one. Any ideas?
Hi mate, I’ve just stripped out all the looms on mine and hoping to get the running gear out next week, when I picked it up to drive back from buying it noticed bad vibration on acceleration and you can keep it bearable about 60-70, it’s coming from half way up the propshaft, feels like that anyway, think it might be the bearing ? I’m doing a conversion with it in my transporter, oh it’s 3.2 Quattro dsg if you’ve any suggestions, going to rebuild;d the engine once out as going to have it ported at same time, I know I can use it as front wheel drive only but I want to keep the Quattro as the rear hubs are ready for 4motion.. I’ll be getting a transporter 4 motion propshaft anyway just wondered if there’s anything else that could be causing the vibration as it’s like being on a racing bike on the cobbles 😂
Can I ask you something a mate of mine got a a3 tdi 2.0 diesel how much are injector seals he has been charged by a garage £ 300 pounds with a high pressure fuel pump labour and injector testing and ECU been mapped £643 pounds does that seam expensive
Bad times but excited to see it be repaired, really enjoying the detail in these repairs.

I would get it fixed these 3.2 are going to be a very desirable car in the future been a proper 3.2ltr engine stopped making them like this

pig of a job though as access is so tight...done it on a golf 4motion and hope to never have to do it again

The moral of the tale is to check all the major components/systems before you start any repairs at all, in case you've bought a money pit.
