The first epigraph that mentions Tulu comes from Tamil Nadu. The Pattattalmangalam grant of Nandivaraman II (731-795 A.D.), the Pallava king, states that at the gate of the king, there awaited, without getting the opportunity to enter, the Vallabhas, the Kalabhras, the Kerajas, the Pandyas, the Cholas, the Tulus, the Konkanas, and others desirous of obtaining admission to serve him.

Tulunadu in the Sangam Literature The earliest reference to Tulunadu is found in the Sangam literature, where the people of this region are termed the Kosars. However, there were the western, eastern, northern, and southern Kosars, thereby implying that the Tulu people were one of the Kosars.

I visited a Tulu village near Mangalore , Tulu people understand the Tamil words spoken by my students. Students bought some eatables from shops there.
All South Indian languages share commonalities. Especially the numbers... Kannada, Tamil, Tulu and Telugu... Hence it is easy to do shopping
Tulu people are open to learn accept any language, even tuluvas move to any place they learn that lands culture and language without forgetting tuluva culture.

Tulunad, tulu country dint come to existence after formation of karnataka. It was exist before karnataka state. And this is spread across kerala state also. Where did we hate Kannada? Anything I told against Kannada? In 1956 status were formed based on language. And it's everyone's to demand statehood. In 1956 karnataka formed based on kannada language and we can't say kannadigas are wrong. They did right thing and today Kannada language and culture protected because Kannada has it's own state. But Tuluvas can also demand their statehood. It's their right and you cant say it's hatred towards kannadigas. Don't think negatively friend. You will get friendly neighbor and it also helps us in administration. Because for everything we need to visit Bangalore which is far away. 😊

Le tamil joker, The demonym of Kodagu itself is kodava, kodagaru, coorgi. Even in inscriptions in Karnataka it was stated that in ancient times tamils were called as konga in Kannada.
Kudagu in Tamil means west, Kodagumalai mean Western mountain. Since Kodagu situated in western part of Tamilagam, its called Kodagu. Kongar may mean Westerner, same way Vadugar means northner {Telugu people}.

Some common words are always there in all regional languages, that doesn't mean Tulu is Tamil. Many regions of present TN like Krishnagiri, Hosur, Nilagiri were under Mysore till 1956.

This ignores the fact that Mangalore is the Kannada name for the city. The actual local name is Kudla. Dilmun and Magan are believed to be in the gulf countries (Oman and Bahrain if I remember correctly).

Fun fact- Tulu might be later dated because of inscriptions and literature, but linguistically its the Oldest Dravidian language of the South Dravidian language group.
That means, its even older than Tamizh, it diverged from South Dravidian languages even before Kannada-Tamizh split.
This is evident by many grammatical peculiarities and words in Tulu, that can't be found in Tamizh and Kannada at all.
Tamizh only had the distinction of the oldest language in India to be written, Old Kannada(Halegannada) is equally as old as Old Tamizh (Chentamizh) if not older.
Now, each linguistic group of the Dravidian family has its own specialities. Tuluvas are the purest Dravidians ( they kept their language pure from Sanskrit influences to a large extent on a colloquial level, which was artificially introduced to Tamil during the Sanskrit purging movement) as their DNA is closest to actual Dravidians aka Neolithic farmers. That's why, they are considerably fairer and look like Haryanvis, Punjabis, Iranians( the fairest of all Dravidians).
While Tamizhans have probably the most conservative Dravidian language, their DNA is mixed with non-Dravidian groups similar to Onge and Jarawas and thats why, majority of Tamils look like South and East Africans.
Kannadigas are mediocre in this regard, their language has considerable Sanskrit influence ( which can be purged as well) and their DNA is somewhat similar to Tuluvas or ancient Neolithic Iranian hunter-gatherers( the original Dravidians).
Malayalis has a low benchmark, their language although coming from Old Tamizh has its few conservatives, but their DNA is majority Arab+Hebrew+some Aryan input. Otherwise, the tribals pretty much look like Tamizhans or Africans.
Telugus are midway between Tamizh and Kannadigarus in DNA, but their language although having a large Sanskrit-prakrit stock, is surprisingly conservative in many ways( they preserve the original Dravidian gender the best, for instance).

Once Cavery started flowing, a group of Vellalas settled there. They are the tuluva vellalas-the most ancient group of vellalas. A group of brahmins also settled there. They are the Sthanigars (original tulu brahmins). Nannan was the original tuluva vellala king who ruled tulu nadu. The other vellalas along with agasthya then migrated to Mount pothigai near thuthukudi.The vellalas who settled there cleared the forest and established a new kingdom called pandya kingdom. Thus the tulunadu is more ancient than pandya kingdom. From the pandya kingdom the chola and chera kingdoms emerged. In tholkapiyam the land of tulu, konkan and vaduga were refereed to as koduntamil nadu (land were the most ancient and primitive form of tamil is spoken). You can find these details in tholkapiyam and puranaanuru (sangam literature).
