No, we blame the fandom for not getting the characters we want. The Smash community has a toxic side and because of that, there's no Waluigi as a start and too many fans believed the Grinch leak as a result of their own greed. If Smash Bros. Ultimate doesn't "deliver", the ones to blame are the toxic fans because they asked far too much.

I think its a given anyway. They said that all 5 should be out by the end of next year but they also said before they planned to support new content for years. I expect at least another 3 characters plus some free dlc spirits and music tracks over the next few years
I heard botw is getting an expansion pass 3 now because it's still selling so well, so who knows maybe there will be more smash dlc than we currently know

The fact that Nintendo is picking the dlc(even though sakurai still has the say of who gets in) has me a bit on edge, I’m still trying to be optimistic, still want and support the inclusion of geno and banjo, but we need to see one of these packs to see how it might play out
This is like actually very concerning for some characters, maybe they (Nintendo) didn't want some characters because they don't think it would sell, despite it being a fan favorite
To be fair, those characters would probably only sell to the hardcore Smash community. Someone like Geno is a literal who to most people. And I'm sure Nintendo is expecting this game to sell to millions, many of whom are not hardcore Smash fans.

Tbf while Sakurai is always going to consider the more dedicated fanbase, Nintendo will look at a wider audience and having these characters as dlc, Nintendo need to know that a wider, more casual & younger audience would consider buying the characters. That's why I'd support 3rd party characters like Tails but a lot of casuals won't want to buy or even know who Geno & Banjo are. Nintendo will likely look at more relevant and recent characters
Mai Ze Banjo, Tails (because it makes no sense that ryu has a plus one and not a sega character), Rayman, Granblue, whatever character has a gun for sakurai gun model
Mai Ze the reason i don’t believe that we will get a Nintendo character from a game we don’t know is that sakurai stated in the direct that rex didn’t make the roster because dlc was already decided beforehand. And xenoblade 2 was revealed all the way back in January 2017
We didn't even get a say during the last DLC characters. The fighter ballot was completely rigged! I'm glad we got Cloud, but I don't know how many actually voted for him.

Plus this smash game has been mostly fan service, so I find it hard to believe that they would change that now. Nintendo sent Sakurai an email saying "Hey let's talk with Square and Microsoft, if they agree forget all your characters, we are doing Banjo, Geno, Isaac and... you know, just send us the goddamn ballot data!"

Spirits definitely do not deconfirm a character's inclusion, because characters on the current roster are Spirits. Sakurai played some Spirits separately from any Direct recently (as well as, on a separate note, some Classic mode), and a Spirit that he unlocked in the demonstration was Daisy. Also, in the final Direct itself, Male Wii Fit Trainer is a Spirit. Again, being a Spirit does not deconfirm a character's inclusion. On a separate note, it's interesting to consider that there may not be a Spirit of Kirby, because he never becomes one.
But those are alterations of the characters, like Kaptain K. Rool and a specific Wii Fit pose. That means that the spirit battles against those spirits will have the character doing one move consistently. Characters that are only spirits, however, are representing that character as a whole. It would not make sense for a character to be represented twice in a game. It would be like if an assist trophy became playable.
@@hogndog2339 That's why by logic standards, Spirits de-confirm. And it's crazy enough as is that we got people running about and shouting that Waluigi and/or Shadow is gonna be playable. It's ridiculous, it's nonsense, and it's a waste of time. However, Assist Trophies had 3D models made and Spirits only have official artwork or some other form, so the only real reason people would think Spirits don't de-confirm is because a 3D model could still be created from the ground up.

Something worth pointing out regarding Sora - when Cloud was added for DLC, there were no major Final Fantasy games on Wii U (only a couple VC titles). It's even possible Square-Enix saw the DLC sales as an indicator that FF has a market on Nintendo still (hence the 7/9/10/10-2 ports). Nintendo could be hoping for something similar to happen with Kingdom Hearts, where a bunch of ports get announced later 2019 or early 2020 after the DLC sells well.
I'd personally like Dragonlord, the first villain from 1986. Plenty of retro and he could cast evil magic and turn into his dragon form for his Final Smash. It could be great.

Sakurai is picking 5 characters based on a number of characters that Nintendo gave him. If Sakurak was given a character that wouldn't work of he knew fans wouldn't want, he won't develop it. It's that simple.

It’s all corporations decisions over what fans want. My confidence is basically lost in this fighter pack. I won’t buy the pack but individually if I want the character. Shadow salt is still high.
donaldthescottishtwin (DTST) as much as I don’t care about the sonic series I was blown away by the fact that shadow wasn’t an echo yet they got Ken as a second street fighter character and Simon AND richter are a duo too. Seems strangely out of place makes me feel like one DLC has to be SEGA.
A lot was going for him. The fact that 2 3rd party reps got echoes from the same series. Knuckles assist trophy. The villains vs hero’s theme ultimate has. And shadow appeared in a lot of somewhat credit leaks. So yeah our emotions got played with yet again but a lot more this time round since it ultimate seemed to be making the unthinkable happen so he had a good chance. Yeah I’m pretty salty.
Could’ve shown he was a assist trophy months ago and get it out the way instead of showing us the new knuckles one which we all assumed was replacing it.
For me the DLC pack is a wait until I see anyone I would want.... then I would buy the whole pack.... otherwise I didn't buy any of the Smash 4 DLC since nothing interested me and I hope it isn't a repeat.
My own ideas 1. Tails - Sonic already has 2 stages and 2 assist trophies, but only one playable character. The roster would just feel more well-rounded if Sonic has 2 representatives. 2. Geno - I'd hate Nintendo if they didn't put him in any way besides a spirit. They are well aware of this character's legacy. 3. Steve - I'm afraid Nintendo will do this instead of Banjo. 4. Shantae - BUT with music from many indie games (shovel knight, Runner3, Undertale?). It would be the best way to recognize Nindies. 5. Fire Emblem 3 houses character. It's going to happen. It's just what Nintendo does.

Also DragonQuest although with the Mii costume spirit sticker, an pirranah plant in the pot (referencing SMRPG commercial from Japan) points back to Geno.

This honestly makes me worried about Geno's chances. Nintendo might not have the fans' best interest in mind and just cast out someone like Geno as "irrelevant", and just choose the newest FE protag instead of him.

And idk if you've noticed but those characters are part of the base game. If people want to buy smash bros for the characters in the game, those two will also just be there. Nintendo will need to rely on Geno to sell seperately from the game buy himself and when a character like Piranha Plant is way more recognisable that Geno, that just isn't going to happen
@@connorbeith3232 Yes. And he did. Geno, Banjo, Isaac? Etc. Were no where near as demanded as Ridley & K.Rool. In some parts of the world, Bandana Waddle Dee was even more requested than Banjo. If Sakurai really thought that a character like Geno was the most important character for the fanbase, he likely wouldn't have spent time developing Isabelle or Incineroar, two of the more interesting fighters with the arguably the most unique playstyles of all the new characters.
I can imagine his introduction tagline, "Rayman! Plunges in!" Remember the reveal trailer for Simon and Richter Belmont? When Luigi was attempting to take out a zombie, he used his Poltergust to fire a plunger at it. I've heard this might be a similarity to Rayman's plunger gun. So this might be another foreshadowing other than the cloud shaped like Rayman's head in King K. Rool's reveal trailer.
After the grinch leak, I'm all for fake until Sakurai or Nintendo officially say lol. Having said that, I reckon the Minecraft content could come in the form of support or primary spirits....

Given this info and the fact that Vergeben said we definitely are getting a Square Enix character and let alone most likely it will be the first dlc fighter from the pass, I am convinced it will be Geno and he will be our first character. Others hope for Sora, a dragonquest character, or maybe Chrono Trigger. What are your thoughts on who it can be? I'm just gonna stick to Geno even if that doesn't bode well now for that. But I am hoping they saw the potential in him and chose him. Btw if another Metroid character comes in, why not Sylux? They have said in the past they wanna put Sylux as a main antagonist in a Metroid Prime game, so why not? He would be awesome. I'm all for more Metroid representation.

@@chrisf3535 He is not deconfirmed. King K Rool, Daisy, and Wii Fit trainer are spirits, but they are also playable. Spirits replace trophies, and Mewtwo and Lucas were trophies before they were announced as DLC in Smash 4. Geno still has a chance for DLC

I think Paper Mario has a higher chance than ever now. Given: -characters were chosen by Nintendo -Mario is Nintendo's biggest character and sells well -If a new Paper Mario game is in the works, his inclusion would boost sales for it -There are 3 Links and 2 Marios (this isn't a great point but just thought i'd point that out) -He has great moveset potential, with his hammer and paper abilities. I don't think Sakurai would turn this character down if it was suggested by Nintendo
Yeah, RIP Geno. Nintendo is EXTREMELY out of touch with their community. We MIGHT get Banjo Kazooie, but more likely that we'll get Steve from Minecraft and another Fire Emblem character.
I think it's less that Nintendo is out of touch with its community and rather the community is seriously out of touch with the majority of the casual player-base. I'd be doubtful if many outside of the hardcore fans even know who Geno is at this point and a majority of those that do want him likely haven't played his game in years (if at all).
What really confuses me about the Game and Watch animation thing is that the game it's from actually had the very same animation changed in re-releases. For the original to be used here is just bizarre.

My bets go to: 1.- Sora - Nintendo didn't even bother to get Geno's cameo in the Superstar Saga remake and Dragon Quest's music is apparently a huge liscensing mess, he also has a Cloud - Ryu level of shock - sales. 2.- Banjo-Kazooie - More leaning on the N64 legacy and Microsoft's apparent leniency on them joining, also being honorary Nintendo characters like Bayonetta, Steve could be a Mii Costume(?). 3.- New Pokémon - Next year is huge for Pokémon, the first live-action movie of the franchise and the newest mainline games for the Switch are launched, there is almost no way Nintendo is overlooking that. 4.- New Fire Emblem character - Yes, another one and just in time for Three Houses' launch, Roy and Corrin's history almost seals this up. 5.- Wildcard, but probably a first party character.

I'm glad that we all can agree and have despair over this. I know Sakurai said "And I don't mean echo fighters!" but I hope they decide to make some sometime as cheaper or free dlc. It seems like it would be simple enough to just throw in Ninten, Giegue/Giygas, Black Shadow, and Raiden or Big Boss (I personally would prefer Raiden) as echoes of Ness, Mewtwo, Captain Falcon, and Snake respectively. Seems like a good and cool way to get some extra characters for us and a buck for them. Plus, with the rumored dlc characters now, fans seem to like the echoes I listed better lol. Then again, look at what happened with Shadow. Yaaayyy hopelessness!
Aninymouse There's actually a lot of request for Ninten and Giegue and others. People fucking love Mother. Also there are no echoes for Mother. There's Lucas but he's a semi clone at the absolute least.

Before I watch the video, I got some predictions. These are just based on what Nintendo seems to be pushing/embracing -a Xenoblade rep (probably Elma, Rex/Pyra, or someone new) -a FE Three Houses rep (most likely Edelgard) -a new Pokemon from Gen 8 -an indie rep (either Shantae or Travis Touchdown) -a third party rep (most likely Banjo)
Not feeling great about it atm. Maybe Nintendo will listen to the fans. But the better chance is they will choose characters from upcoming major Switch games. For example, another Fire Emblem character (ugh) from the new game coming out next year.
They could bring in some surprises, hell, we could get a character from one of the upcoming games like Town. Watever happens, I'm still hype for new characters, stages, and music.
Another Fire Emblem rep isn't bad, just not another lord with a sword >_> they made too many of those, Fire Emblem has amazingly different characters...

@Gustavo Vasconcelos th pokemon games have over 700 playable characters and is ons of the top 10 franchises in the world. An extra pokemon would make 11 out of 82 characters a pokemon, only taking up 9 character slots on the select screen. A pokemon character as standalone DLC as the new generation, or just after, is being released will be much morep profitable than Geno or Banjo because Nintendo are presenting the new ideas for DLC characters. They would wnat a character that will drive sales individually to a wider casual audience. A casual audience who will have little-to-no idea who Geno or Banjo are

Did Shrek came out on Switch?, nope, there's two games from Dragon Ball on Switch already and Goku is probably more famous than every character in the game except for Mario. The one that said "no anime characters" was Sakurai, not Nintendo. even if it doesn't become a reality, there's no other character that will be more of an impact than Snake other than Goku (fans wouldn't even complain about it).

PapaGeno, I think that I have a slight idea as to who one of the DLC characters may be. As you may remember during the Grinch leak speculation, some trademarks from Nintendo were renewed. They renewed Golden Sun (makes sense), Mach Rider (music in game) and most strangely of all, Banjo-Kazooie (as far as we know, they have no representation in game). Nintendo doesn't own Banjo-Kazooie anymore so there are a few possibilities: - Nintendo threw us through the loop. - Nintendo is preparing for a N64 classic. - Banjo and Kazooie are in Smash.
This had me thinking about the Smash Direct, but Lip from Panel De Pon got a lot of Exposure this time around. Showing off her Spirit, Song, The Game Shes From, Mii Costume & LipStick. Nintendo didn't have to do that but it had me Puzzled (No Pun Intended) as to why go that far for her? I Smell some Flowery DLC coming On! That's just my Hunch. ️

something i noticed is that in smash for the 3DS has a fossil fighters trophy where it was the 3 main characters from fossil fighters frontier, who are named jura, tria, and the little dinosaur nibbles. in the recent direct, nibbles is shown to be his own spirit, but jura and tria are nowhere to be seen. if being a spirit truely does deconfirm a character, then thats really strange to me for them to just remove jura and tria. so perhaps for the inhouse slot it could be Fossil Hero?
I still think Geno and Banjo have a shot their the last 2 Big dream characters left. Geno still has a lot going for him even that his spirit is in that means they even have the rights, he's not as obscure as people think he is either. Banjo would feel like the Cloud DLC of this game that one big character people always dreamed btw Rex's Mii outfit coming with the Fighter Pack means he's not one of them, he's a compensation prize the thought of Metroid getting 3 new Fighters in one game is so weird I feel like getting spoiled lol

I still think these two would sell very well, and I’m sure they did very well in the ballot, especially Geno because he’s the final most requested character since Melee that’s left; they know Banjo is wanted by a lot of people, so if we’re getting two fan service characters that are highly requested. I definitely think it’s Banjo and Geno that will be DLC.
All the characters are probably mostly Nintendo. One guest seems likely but I wouldn’t be surprised if we only get Nintendo characters. That being said, I can only see newer characters being chosen unless Nintendo holds certain retro characters in a form of high regard. Rex, a Dragolia Lost/Fire Emblem Heroes/Any Nintendo mobile game characters, and the Octoling seem like the characters I feel have a chance. I wouldn’t even be surprised if an ARMS character pops up either. I just don’t have much hope for guests though.
There's no way Spirits deconfirm anybody, nor do Mii costumes....I think as long as they're not bosses or Assist Trophies they're still possible. Plus, base roster characters have some version of them as Spirits as well like Kaptain K Rool, Dry Bowser, the Wii Fit Trainer doing yoga poses and Paper Mario & Peach. I've even seen lots of people mention seeing Daisy as a Spirit as well. I'd also like to point out that Lara Croft could still be the SE rep tied to a Tomb Raider announcement for Switch, Ezio could be an Ubisoft character they pick ( I'd love Rayman, but at the very least his amiibo could be damn near impossible to make given his lack of limbs....and using those clear bits of plastic to keep everything attached would likely look ugly af ), and KOS-MOS could be a 2nd Namco-Bandai rep. There's also a chance the thing with Cygames was nothing and we get someone from Dragalia Lost....or maybe we get an Activision-Blizzard character, like Spyro or Crash Bandicoot. There's a lot of potential characters still. Also I really hope to hell Minecraft content really does just mean a stage at most, maybe some Spirits or a boss fight against the Ender Dragon....Steve is just so bland of a character he'd be more disappointing than getting another generic enemy lik Piranha Plant iMO...

Sakurai basically said Rex's mii costume is a consolation prize, originally it was ambiguous if he meant for the base roster or DLC as a whole but now that we know the DLC is planned it's pretty likely he was among the final cuts for the DLC.
I'm still holding out for Rex. The Mii costume means nothing as Chrom's has been spotted in Ultimate. The development time was a controversy as it was thought the DLC roster was chosen in advance, however Sakurai's exact wording in the Tweet is "The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC line-up is *now* complete." Key word: Now. Not 2015 or 2016. So he's back in the running. I feel like Nintendo's involvement could push him either way. They do seem to be pushing more and XC2 sold the best out of any Xeno game so it can happen. However, they may just shelve him in favor of more brand new characters. Still hope to see him in.

Have you heard the rumours about Geno apparently being talked about in NoA? Apparently the person came to you or you went into their Discord. This person has actually had a pretty good track record, so I think I trust him. Geno has a higher chance if that’s true. Also, the SNES Online is inevitable, so maybe Nintendo would find it profitable to put Geno in Smash alongside the SNES Online games. Idk. But it’s definitely not looking all that bad for Geno. Yes, he is a lot less likely, but not necessarily deconfirmed.
Honestly, I think that this recent revelation could be Vergeben and Hitagi's downfall. Aside from Katalina (b/c if the meeting was real, it would make sense for Nintendo to choose her), Minecraft and Square do not seem as likely. Minecraft could be a reality, but if Nintendo would pick a Microsoft character, Banjo makes much more sense due to his Nintendo history and being an enormous money-maker for retro fans. Even so, he never stated he was 100% sure in the game, simply a theory/guess. Square is where it gets interesting; it is common knowledge that they prefer their choices as DLC (just look at Cloud). If Sakurai did save a spot for a Square character, this tweet would indicate Nintendo had higher priority. But we won't know until the reveals, so we'll see. :) (just pls no Slime k thx)
Square does make sense though, considering Dragon Quest 11 has yet to come to Smash. All the old Final Fantasy games that come to Switch next year (Tetra?) and maybe even Sora would we get a KH3 port

No, we blame the fandom for not getting the characters we want. The Smash community has a toxic side and because of that, there's no Waluigi as a start and too many fans believed the Grinch leak as a result of their own greed. If Smash Bros. Ultimate doesn't "deliver", the ones to blame are the toxic fans because they asked far too much.

I think its a given anyway. They said that all 5 should be out by the end of next year but they also said before they planned to support new content for years. I expect at least another 3 characters plus some free dlc spirits and music tracks over the next few years

The fact that Nintendo is picking the dlc(even though sakurai still has the say of who gets in) has me a bit on edge, I’m still trying to be optimistic, still want and support the inclusion of geno and banjo, but we need to see one of these packs to see how it might play out

To be fair, those characters would probably only sell to the hardcore Smash community. Someone like Geno is a literal who to most people. And I'm sure Nintendo is expecting this game to sell to millions, many of whom are not hardcore Smash fans.

Tbf while Sakurai is always going to consider the more dedicated fanbase, Nintendo will look at a wider audience and having these characters as dlc, Nintendo need to know that a wider, more casual & younger audience would consider buying the characters. That's why I'd support 3rd party characters like Tails but a lot of casuals won't want to buy or even know who Geno & Banjo are. Nintendo will likely look at more relevant and recent characters

Plus this smash game has been mostly fan service, so I find it hard to believe that they would change that now. Spirits definitely do not deconfirm a character's inclusion, because characters on the current roster are Spirits.
Sakurai played some Spirits separately from any Direct recently (as well as, on a separate note, some Classic mode), and a Spirit that he unlocked in the demonstration was Daisy.
Also, in the final Direct itself, Male Wii Fit Trainer is a Spirit.
Again, being a Spirit does not deconfirm a character's inclusion.
On a separate note, it's interesting to consider that there may not be a Spirit of Kirby, because he never becomes one.
Why Sakurai didn't directly say that Spirits wouldn't de-confirm a character for DLC is beyond me.

But those are alterations of the characters, like Kaptain K. Rool and a specific Wii Fit pose. That means that the spirit battles against those spirits will have the character doing one move consistently. Characters that are only spirits, however, are representing that character as a whole. It would not make sense for a character to be represented twice in a game. It would be like if an assist trophy became playable.
@@hogndog2339 That's why by logic standards, Spirits de-confirm. And it's crazy enough as is that we got people running about and shouting that Waluigi and/or Shadow is gonna be playable. It's ridiculous, it's nonsense, and it's a waste of time. However, Assist Trophies had 3D models made and Spirits only have official artwork or some other form, so the only real reason people would think Spirits don't de-confirm is because a 3D model could still be created from the ground up.

Something worth pointing out regarding Sora - when Cloud was added for DLC, there were no major Final Fantasy games on Wii U (only a couple VC titles). It's even possible Square-Enix saw the DLC sales as an indicator that FF has a market on Nintendo still (hence the 7/9/10/10-2 ports).
Nintendo could be hoping for something similar to happen with Kingdom Hearts, where a bunch of ports get announced later 2019 or early 2020 after the DLC sells well.

Sakurai is picking 5 characters based on a number of characters that Nintendo gave him. If Sakurak was given a character that wouldn't work of he knew fans wouldn't want, he won't develop it. It's that simple.

donaldthescottishtwin (DTST) as much as I don’t care about the sonic series I was blown away by the fact that shadow wasn’t an echo yet they got Ken as a second street fighter character and Simon AND richter are a duo too. Seems strangely out of place makes me feel like one DLC has to be SEGA.
A lot was going for him. The fact that 2 3rd party reps got echoes from the same series. Knuckles assist trophy. The villains vs hero’s theme ultimate has. And shadow appeared in a lot of somewhat credit leaks. So yeah our emotions got played with yet again but a lot more this time round since it ultimate seemed to be making the unthinkable happen so he had a good chance. Yeah I’m pretty salty.
Could’ve shown he was a assist trophy months ago and get it out the way instead of showing us the new knuckles one which we all assumed was replacing it.
For me the DLC pack is a wait until I see anyone I would want.... then I would buy the whole pack.... otherwise I didn't buy any of the Smash 4 DLC since nothing interested me and I hope it isn't a repeat.
My own ideas
1. Tails - Sonic already has 2 stages and 2 assist trophies, but only one playable character. The roster would just feel more well-rounded if Sonic has 2 representatives.
2. Geno - I'd hate Nintendo if they didn't put him in any way besides a spirit. They are well aware of this character's legacy.
3. Steve - I'm afraid Nintendo will do this instead of Banjo.
4. Shantae - BUT with music from many indie games (shovel knight, Runner3, Undertale?). It would be the best way to recognize Nindies.
5. Fire Emblem 3 houses character. It's going to happen. It's just what Nintendo does.

And idk if you've noticed but those characters are part of the base game. If people want to buy smash bros for the characters in the game, those two will also just be there. Nintendo will need to rely on Geno to sell seperately from the game buy himself and when a character like Piranha Plant is way more recognisable that Geno, that just isn't going to happen

If Sakurai really thought that a character like Geno was the most important character for the fanbase, he likely wouldn't have spent time developing Isabelle or Incineroar, two of the more interesting fighters with the arguably the most unique playstyles of all the new characters.

I think Paper Mario has a higher chance than ever now. Given:
-characters were chosen by Nintendo
-Mario is Nintendo's biggest character and sells well
-If a new Paper Mario game is in the works, his inclusion would boost sales for it
-There are 3 Links and 2 Marios (this isn't a great point but just thought i'd point that out)
-He has great moveset potential, with his hammer and paper abilities. I don't think Sakurai would turn this character down if it was suggested by Nintendo

I think it's less that Nintendo is out of touch with its community and rather the community is seriously out of touch with the majority of the casual player-base. I'd be doubtful if many outside of the hardcore fans even know who Geno is at this point and a majority of those that do want him likely haven't played his game in years (if at all).
At least Nintendo is more in touch with their community than Blizzard is.

I was a little nervous reading Sakurai's tweet that Nintendo was picking the DLC, but you reminded me of the ballot and now I feel a little more relaxed. I hope they check that list out and maybe pick a handful from there.

Dixie Kong and Bandana Waddle Dee are locks imo, if Nintendo is doing the managing I’m convinced on that, I have some issues with your predictions but theyre plausible, good stuff man
My bets go to:
1.- Sora - Nintendo didn't even bother to get Geno's cameo in the Superstar Saga remake and Dragon Quest's music is apparently a huge liscensing mess, he also has a Cloud - Ryu level of shock - sales.
2.- Banjo-Kazooie - More leaning on the N64 legacy and Microsoft's apparent leniency on them joining, also being honorary Nintendo characters like Bayonetta, Steve could be a Mii Costume(?).
3.- New Pokémon - Next year is huge for Pokémon, the first live-action movie of the franchise and the newest mainline games for the Switch are launched, there is almost no way Nintendo is overlooking that.
4.- New Fire Emblem character - Yes, another one and just in time for Three Houses' launch, Roy and Corrin's history almost seals this up.
5.- Wildcard, but probably a first party character.
I think that the Minecraft Content The leaker was talking about might be mii fighter costumes of Minecraft characters.

I'm glad that we all can agree and have despair over this. I know Sakurai said "And I don't mean echo fighters!" but I hope they decide to make some sometime as cheaper or free dlc. It seems like it would be simple enough to just throw in Ninten, Giegue/Giygas, Black Shadow, and Raiden or Big Boss (I personally would prefer Raiden) as echoes of Ness, Mewtwo, Captain Falcon, and Snake respectively. Seems like a good and cool way to get some extra characters for us and a buck for them. Plus, with the rumored dlc characters now, fans seem to like the echoes I listed better lol. Then again, look at what happened with Shadow. Yaaayyy hopelessness!
I know Earthbound has a very dedicated fan base, but you're insane if you think people want more EB echo characters.
Aninymouse There's actually a lot of request for Ninten and Giegue and others. People fucking love Mother. Also there are no echoes for Mother. There's Lucas but he's a semi clone at the absolute least.

Before I watch the video, I got some predictions. These are just based on what Nintendo seems to be pushing/embracing
-a Xenoblade rep (probably Elma, Rex/Pyra, or someone new)
-a FE Three Houses rep (most likely Edelgard)
-a new Pokemon from Gen 8
-an indie rep (either Shantae or Travis Touchdown)
-a third party rep (most likely Banjo)
Not feeling great about it atm. Maybe Nintendo will listen to the fans. But the better chance is they will choose characters from upcoming major Switch games. For example, another Fire Emblem character (ugh) from the new game coming out next year.
They could bring in some surprises, hell, we could get a character from one of the upcoming games like Town. Watever happens, I'm still hype for new characters, stages, and music.
Another Fire Emblem rep isn't bad, just not another lord with a sword >_> they made too many of those, Fire Emblem has amazingly different characters...
@Gustavo Vasconcelos that wouldn't be bad. Just because it's not Geno or Banjo or Shadow or Isaac or Mach Rider or Chorus Kids, doesn't mean it will be a bad character. And if any franchises deserve a lot of reps its Mario & Pokemon.

An extra pokemon would make 11 out of 82 characters a pokemon, only taking up 9 character slots on the select screen.
A pokemon character as standalone DLC as the new generation, or just after, is being released will be much morep profitable than Geno or Banjo because Nintendo are presenting the new ideas for DLC characters. They would wnat a character that will drive sales individually to a wider casual audience. A casual audience who will have little-to-no idea who Geno or Banjo are

Did Shrek came out on Switch?, nope, there's two games from Dragon Ball on Switch already and Goku is probably more famous than every character in the game except for Mario. The one that said "no anime characters" was Sakurai, not Nintendo. even if it doesn't become a reality, there's no other character that will be more of an impact than Snake other than Goku (fans wouldn't even complain about it).

Pretty sure this means no Geno. rip us. I'd put money on DQ11's Erik, since the switch game isnt out yet, a new dragon quest monsters game was announced with him as the protag, and hes extremely popular in japan. I have some hope for Banjo still, but at this point, having any hope at all seems pointless.

Shantea, I know she is a spirit but I still think she has another chance because of all the smash references it kinda strange what if shantea is a challenge and a dlc fighter is what I hope .The reason why I still have hope is because Mario and all the character are also challenges so I suppose that she still has chance and yes Banjo Kazoo has the Biggest chance in history to be in Smash ultimate also Rayman because Ubisoft just loves Nintendo Steve okay I think he still has a big chance finally I think it will be Geno or Sora heck if there popular enough they could both be smash also Catalonia has a chance to as dlc and for fun how about the Slime from monster quest

PapaGeno, I think that I have a slight idea as to who one of the DLC characters may be.
As you may remember during the Grinch leak speculation, some trademarks from Nintendo were renewed. They renewed Golden Sun (makes sense), Mach Rider (music in game) and most strangely of all, Banjo-Kazooie (as far as we know, they have no representation in game).
Nintendo doesn't own Banjo-Kazooie anymore so there are a few possibilities:
- Nintendo threw us through the loop.
- Nintendo is preparing for a N64 classic.
- Banjo and Kazooie are in Smash.

This had me thinking about the Smash Direct, but Lip from Panel De Pon got a lot of Exposure this time around. Showing off her Spirit, Song, The Game Shes From, Mii Costume & LipStick. Nintendo didn't have to do that but it had me Puzzled (No Pun Intended) as to why go that far for her? I Smell some Flowery DLC coming On! That's just my Hunch. ️

something i noticed is that in smash for the 3DS has a fossil fighters trophy where it was the 3 main characters from fossil fighters frontier, who are named jura, tria, and the little dinosaur nibbles. in the recent direct, nibbles is shown to be his own spirit, but jura and tria are nowhere to be seen. if being a spirit truely does deconfirm a character, then thats really strange to me for them to just remove jura and tria. so perhaps for the inhouse slot it could be Fossil Hero?
I still think Geno and Banjo have a shot their the last 2 Big dream characters left.
Geno still has a lot going for him even that his spirit is in that means they even have the rights, he's not as obscure as people think he is either.

I still think these two would sell very well, and I’m sure they did very well in the ballot, especially Geno because he’s the final most requested character since Melee that’s left; they know Banjo is wanted by a lot of people, so if we’re getting two fan service characters that are highly requested. I definitely think it’s Banjo and Geno that will be DLC.
All the characters are probably mostly Nintendo. One guest seems likely but I wouldn’t be surprised if we only get Nintendo characters.
That being said, I can only see newer characters being chosen unless Nintendo holds certain retro characters in a form of high regard. Rex, a Dragolia Lost/Fire Emblem Heroes/Any Nintendo mobile game characters, and the Octoling seem like the characters I feel have a chance.
I wouldn’t even be surprised if an ARMS character pops up either.
I just don’t have much hope for guests though.
There's no way Spirits deconfirm anybody, nor do Mii costumes....I think as long as they're not bosses or Assist Trophies they're still possible. Plus, base roster characters have some version of them as Spirits as well like Kaptain K Rool, Dry Bowser, the Wii Fit Trainer doing yoga poses and Paper Mario & Peach. I've even seen lots of people mention seeing Daisy as a Spirit as well.
I'd also like to point out that Lara Croft could still be the SE rep tied to a Tomb Raider announcement for Switch, Ezio could be an Ubisoft character they pick ( I'd love Rayman, but at the very least his amiibo could be damn near impossible to make given his lack of limbs....and using those clear bits of plastic to keep everything attached would likely look ugly af ), and KOS-MOS could be a 2nd Namco-Bandai rep. There's also a chance the thing with Cygames was nothing and we get someone from Dragalia Lost....or maybe we get an Activision-Blizzard character, like Spyro or Crash Bandicoot. There's a lot of potential characters still.
Also I really hope to hell Minecraft content really does just mean a stage at most, maybe some Spirits or a boss fight against the Ender Dragon....Steve is just so bland of a character he'd be more disappointing than getting another generic enemy lik Piranha Plant iMO...

Turtle Anton tbh I really couldn't care less one way or the other about Heihachi....frankly if we got a Tekken character I'd prefer Christie Montiero, Jin Kazama or Yoshimitsu ( bonus for him is that he'd also rep Soul Calibur ). I get that Heihachi is popular & kind of the face of Tekken but I just never really cared about him much,
But those are alterations of the characters, like Kaptain K. Rool and a specific Wii Fit pose. That means that the spirit battles against those spirits will have the character doing one move consistently. Characters that are only spirits, however, are representing that character as a whole. It would not make sense for a character to be represented twice in a game. It would be like if an assist trophy became playable.

Spirits doesn’t deconfirm characters. Not only does K Rool and Ridley have a spirit, but so does snake, and if you watch the video where Sakurai goes over the smash ultimate menu, there’s a daisy spirit in the shop.

Sakurai basically said Rex's mii costume is a consolation prize, originally it was ambiguous if he meant for the base roster or DLC as a whole but now that we know the DLC is planned it's pretty likely he was among the final cuts for the DLC.
I'm still holding out for Rex. The Mii costume means nothing as Chrom's has been spotted in Ultimate. The development time was a controversy as it was thought the DLC roster was chosen in advance, however Sakurai's exact wording in the Tweet is "The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC line-up is *now* complete." Key word: Now. Not 2015 or 2016. So he's back in the running. I feel like Nintendo's involvement could push him either way. They do seem to be pushing more and XC2 sold the best out of any Xeno game so it can happen. However, they may just shelve him in favor of more brand new characters. Still hope to see him in.
I don't think this hurts or helps Geno's chances. TBH, I feel like if anything, this helps his shots (if we are to believe that we are getting a Square character).

Have you heard the rumours about Geno apparently being talked about in NoA? Apparently the person came to you or you went into their Discord. This person has actually had a pretty good track record, so I think I trust him. Geno has a higher chance if that’s true.
Also, the SNES Online is inevitable, so maybe Nintendo would find it profitable to put Geno in Smash alongside the SNES Online games. Idk.

Honestly, I think that this recent revelation could be Vergeben and Hitagi's downfall. Aside from Katalina (b/c if the meeting was real, it would make sense for Nintendo to choose her), Minecraft and Square do not seem as likely. Minecraft could be a reality, but if Nintendo would pick a Microsoft character, Banjo makes much more sense due to his Nintendo history and being an enormous money-maker for retro fans. Even so, he never stated he was 100% sure in the game, simply a theory/guess. Square is where it gets interesting; it is common knowledge that they prefer their choices as DLC (just look at Cloud). If Sakurai did save a spot for a Square character, this tweet would indicate Nintendo had higher priority. But we won't know until the reveals, so we'll see. :) (just pls no Slime k thx)
Square does make sense though, considering Dragon Quest 11 has yet to come to Smash. All the old Final Fantasy games that come to Switch next year (Tetra?) and maybe even Sora would we get a KH3 port
