Never ridden a bike before but I'm making it my goal to own a panigale, im not hugely into sports bikes but the shapes, the power and freedom it offers has got me falling in love.
I am glad you have fallen in love! Just make sure you can truly ride on such a beautiful machine for more than 30 minutes with the difficult ergonomics of these supersport class machines.
Hello Missenden, like you i'm an 899 devotee, i liked your expression Garage Queen. I bought my 899 about same time as you - it has 10,500km on the odo. It's a good touring bike, the riding position doesn't bother me. I installed the throttle spacers, and my favourite motorbike mechanic Ethan Meyer, fabricated a removable luggage rack which is sized to hold a Kriega 30 bag + battery charger connection and USD outlet for mobile phone connection for Google Maps - so i don't get lost in the hillsa along the Laos border. For me, It's a great bike.
Nice, considered review. Much appreciated. I have 2 classic and 2 modern Ducati and love them all. Fantastic bikes. Never had a problem with any of them either. Looking forward to a review of the new V2 - highly likely to buy one later this year...
Jay B You can sort it online though so if it's before midnight you'll be alright. Also when we bought our last car on 30th June he let us get home before cancelling it and any anpr or cops would still have it on the database as taxed. Then we taxed from July 1st. Technically naughty but isn't double taxation also so according to ...I dunno maybe the magna carta or something?!
I think we need another panivlogali video soon after watching this haha. The Panigale is one of those bikes that always gives me goosebumps, even more so when you hear them. Rare to see but always a pleasure. Glad to hear you're keeping her! 😍
Just traded my 899 for a 950 SP - couldn't get on with the crashing suspension on the bumpy East Yorks roads. Funnily enough I took it to the NW200 this year and touring wasn't too bad in 75 min stints.
Well after 4 years and I’ve just sold my 899 with 17K on the clock the trip to Ireland finished me off it was too painfully to ride after my 2nd shoulder op, I’ve got myself a hyperstrada for now which I’ll keep and hopefully get a 1299 next year to sit in the garage and look at.
I had my 899 for 4 years as well, and finally parted with it last November and replaced it with a GS Adventure. I don't regret it all, I just never got along with the bike.
Great video as usual TMF. The switch to the GoPro is noticeable but by no means takes away from the message or the enjoyment. Looking forward to some tour videos. Peace!
Great update TMF, she is still as bonnie as ever! Didn't notice any difference in quality at all, seemed spot on to me. I only watch on an old ipad mini tho, so maybe not the best test!
Brilliant! Just picked up a brand new 2018 959 Panigale, and I'm anticipating the same kind of life for mine as yours. And yes, I said brand new 2018, in 2020. It was a leftover. Seems as soon as the V2 and V4 came out, having the previous variant was out of fashion. Well that's fine with me, as I got it for 62% of it's original retail price. Dealer finally needed to just move it. Be that as it may, I love your garage and your passion for lovely bikes.
Another informative video. The film quality was fine. Camara worked well. Loved the info on the Ducati. Always interested in the reliability of the beautiful Italians. Most especially over the long term.
That bike is fantastic. All of you're mods are exactly what I want to do to my 899 when I find the right one. Not over the top on mods, just oe plus. 😎
What a beautiful bike TMF you must be so proud of owning it. I agree with you that the panigales are the best looking bikes around. I fancy a 959 panigale hopefully funds allow it next year. And like yours mine would be the garage Queen of my fleet.
@@TheMissendenFlyer the time will come. Stay safe till then and keep your excellent videos coming they're keeping a lot of people sane during these dark days 😂
You missed the blurring on the first bit where the digits go north of 62 Mph mate :) As for image quality, it was fine apart from the fish-eye effect around the edges, which all actions camera lenses do unfortunately...
I put just over 600 miles on my 899 in my first year of ownership and I also plan to keep the bike. So far all I've done is change the oil and filter and all the dot 4 brake and clutch fluid. All I'm looking at now is a single seat conversion and a new 899 decal that is peeling and that's it.
I prefer the DSLR more than the go pro as far as video quality. But always enjoy the content. I think I remember the day you posted your review when the bike was new. Still good to hear what an awesone motorcycle it is. Dream bike for me...
Always enjoy your reviews TMF, but seriously....get that bike used!! I bought my 899 in September 2014, so it’s almost 5 years old now... After 11 rear tyres, 8 fronts, 1 set of brake pads and its 3rd chain and sprocket kit, it now has just over 24,000 miles on it !! And I’m still in love with the thing 😍! As well as the usual weekend blasts, it’s done two Europe trips and I have at least two long weekends away in the UK, probably 1,000 miles each. Only had one small problem with it, clutch master cylinder seal wore a tiny hole through it, meaning it would only hold the clutch open for about 4 or 5 seconds, try getting it back on a ferry like that!! Ducati only wanted to sell me a complete clutch master cylinder assembly for £240 !! But I managed to fix it with a KTM Brembo seal kit for just over £20 , see post no 57 in this link :- www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/alternatives-to-the-genuine-ducati-parts.594/page-3 I’ve been biking for close on 40 years now and the 899 has been probably the best bike I’ve ever had, still looks stunning after all those miles, I’m pretty anal with cleaning it so it still looks and rides like new! I expected it to be a fantastic ride, which it is, but two things I really didn’t expect were how easy it is to keep clean , comes up sparkling clean with the minimum of effort..and also it’s economy with petrol, on a weekend thrash, it’ll still turn in mid 40s mpg, on a very warm slap down a Belgian motorway.......63mpg!! That’s the only time the engine heat has troubled me, on a trip into Germany in last years heat wave, ambient temperature of about 34c in Saarbucken and the temperature gauge on the bike hit 108c going through the city centre,....couldn’t sit on the seat, ouch!! That never bothers me at home though in NE England, bike normally runs at about 86c. Would I have another 899,....in a heartbeat!! Anyone thinking of buying one, just do it, ...don’t wrap it up in the garage, use it as much as you can....the harder you ride these things, the better they feel, that’s what they were designed for,....going apeshit crazy on a nice sunny day! Can’t see me ever selling it, all other bikes just look so ugly compared to the Panigale, so I’m thinking of adding either a 1050 Speed triple RS or V4 1100 Tuono to the stable next year. Keep up the good work TMF, and get riding that 899 !!
Yet another very informative video TMF. Re road tax would have to disagree re losing the remainder when selling on. I recently sold one of my bikes. Registered on gov website to that affect and within a week i received confirmation that I was no longer the registered keeper and a refund of remaining road tax. I always pay one off for tax as with a few bikes, you save a few quid.
Ah, lovely to see the Panigalina on your channel again. I've missed seeing it! Video quality was top notch on the GoPro. As it is a lot easier, might be worth using it a bit more? As always, great content TMF. See you on the next one!
Yeah it's way easier and less time consuming and I like the fact that picture moves around more (i.e isn't all static tripod stuff)....will defo use it more as not many people seem to mind!
Have you given any thought to finding some "classic" turn of the millennium bikes and reviewing them? Would be interesting to see what you think of CBR1100XX, TL1000S, ZX12R or a Gen 1 Hayabusa. Greetings from NZ.
I enjoyed mine on track, but once I got an R nineT, I stopped using the 899 for roads almost entirely and got rid of it shortly after. Hopefully the new owner is enjoying it more than I did.
She's a beaut...always wanted one, but never quite been able to align want with money :-(. Nice to see that you have a proper man cave, bikes, tools and beer (1:18) kept in the same place...
Morning Andy! That Duke is a lovely machine and I totally get why you have it in your collection - money no object, I’d have a “queen” to 👍 As for filming with the GoPro - nothing wrong with it, although the wide angle does give a bit of a fisheye effect, where as the DLSR is more natural. Andy 🏴
Completely agree I was considering selling/trading my 959 but its just too beautiful despite a hip replacement and general aches I fitted some Gilles raised clipons and comfort seat and what a difference very comfortable now and people shouldn't think of these as the baby Panigale because they go like....er surprisingly fast.
Still a very pretty bike. Personally I don't think the looks have dated & arguably it looks as good if not better maybe than the current version. Although like most sports bikes, you've really got to be in the mood to ride it due to it's focused nature & quasimodo riding position so I'm not too surprised you haven't done many miles on it considering the other bikes you own. Still great to have nonetheless I'm sure & perfect when your in sports mode.
Re the use of the go pro, I hadn't even realised a different camera until you mentioned it, so I looked back at the 2-year review for comparison. I prefer the darker go pro colours and I thought the sound was better that the 2-year review, although I am not sure what camera you were using then :-)
It is a thing of absolute beauty. I rode a 999 in Brighton, the first in the country, a test ride by my late mate Robbie (MCN reviewer), I felt like the King of the universe, even when I stalled it on the seafront on bikers day with hoi-poloi bikes everywhere. My advice:Get a sports bike with cruise control and ditch adventure bikes for ever.
TMF - noticed in the background, a spoiler on top of your GS windshield. I am considering purchasing one. Do you like it? Does it add or subtract from the buffeting? Is it the MRA clamp-on or bolt-on style? PS: I liked watching the video on your GoPro...the wide angel allowed me to also see your brilliant BMW GS.
A beautiful bit of kit. A bit off topic but have you ever ridden a Triumph Daytona 675? You love your Street Triple and you love your Ducati so you will love the Daytona for sure.
For a 4 year old bike it looks absolutely brand spanking new! Well done on maintaining it! I hope one day I will own a Panigale 899/1199/1299. Hopefully before I get old and get a bad back and decide sportsbikes are not for me... :P
Hi TMF, After a little advise on the R&G clutch casing slider - currently looking at the one you have fitted along with a few others that look a little more substantial but do like the look of the half moon covering you have fitted. Not sure if you've had chance to test it but what are your thoughts on it - decent???
Thanks for the "4" year update, TMF. Camera quality is good, but for my taste a bit too wide-angleish. ;) Maybe you try a different setting so that your face does not look like pulling 12 g's. ;) Cheers, Tim
Great bike TMF, some bikes grab your heart and are keepers for sure!. When you have a passion for bikes the 'depreciation ' affect isn't relevant...in good condition bikes reach a plateau of value and if your lucky become classics! Remember to move it round the garage so you can admire from different angles....or am I the only one that does that...? !! Cheers, Steve
Love your videos! Can I ask you does your rear shock spring rub up against the bit of black plastic that’s beside it. Not the shock protector the other side plastic that’s up the side of the bike and runs under the tail piece. Just noticed when cleaning my bike that mine is
Most bikes like this are more garage ornaments than motorcycles, to put in perspective it’s costing not far off £2 every mile you ride it. A nice thing to have if you have excess cash but ultimately more suited to the track than the road. I briefly ran an R1 with my GS, did around 1000 miles on the R1 and was always thinking of reasons to take the GS instead when I went for a ride so an easy decision to get rid of the R1....looked nice though in the garage.
Hi Andy, Can you please confirm if you have the ‘Db Killers’ installed in your Termi exhaust- or do you ride it without them fitted..? If it’s the latter, do you have any issues with excessively exhaust noise at low engine speed ..? Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Kind regards, Ian.
"Panigale" 👍🏻🙂, excuse me but it's hard enough to hear every time "Paenigaelei" (generally speaking, not in this video), at least when written it's good if it's spelled right 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😂😂 Please don't take it bad. Peace
Garage queen,, absolutely no reason for not owning a bike that you're going to idolise with fanatical zest I do the in the garage with my bike oz wheels,, wiibers suspension,, all carbon fibre bodywork,, loads of titanium bolts and nuts arrow low boy exhaust,, wavy discs all round,, it's out a bit over the winter et all work permitting rigorous cleaning followed it's old but it's like a new bike as I maintain it well 2008 speed triple,, love the channel keep safe until we've passed through the virus keeping us sane 😁😁😉🍀🍀🍀
Hey missenden, love your videos, did you ever end up doing the 8 year review? I found one of these near me, im thinking of getting but wanted to see if its still the same good ratings after all these years. Ride safe
Hi, the GoPro images were fine though a bit wobbly. Pity you don't get the chance to ride it more often but at roughly £500 for 500 miles (approx) it isn't that bad cost wise.
899 with a Termi exhaust is going to easy on the eye and music to the ears The only difference with the change in camera is the slight fish eye effect on the peripherals.
One of those bikes that you get as much pleasure looking at it as you do riding it.. I have been known to sneak into the garage with a coffee and contemplate a ZX7R :)
love mine. took a test ride on a 899, 959,1199,1299. 899 was far more enjoyable! and the best thing you can do to it is change the sprocket! makes so much difference around the towns.. keep mine for a few years yet then a v4 🤔
Another great video! Very informative. Do you have any tips on cleaning the Termi’s? Yours are in an immaculate condition with no exhaust spot staining. I’m in awe 👍
Lovely machine.. I find as I get older they don’t get ridden as much.. the idea of having a bike in the garage always sounds good though. But with several bikes, plus testing other bikes, I suppose TMF does’nt get to put huge miles on any one bike. I’d love a Goldwing DCT to finish off my motorcycling years, but suspect it would end up being a very expensive ornament in the garage.... Don’t have the enthusiasm at 63, that I had at 21....( And in my 20’s I could’nt have afforded the Goldwing or BMW of the day, which I would have loved to have...ironic.)
Gorgeous!! Thanks for the update on the Duc!! Have you tried the Q3+ Sport Max tires from Dunlop? I replaced the Corsa 2 on my 765 Street Triple and like them way more. I don’t know if they cost a premium in the U.K. but in the US I think they are the best road going sport tire made at the moment. Brilliant!!
TheMissendenFlyer For sure. Like I said I really don’t think them any better than the corsa 2. Those are properly great tires but the Dunlop’s are equally as great and they are less money and last longer. I myself, like you, am not as concerned about long life. I’ll take grip any day and the Dunlop’s are not a compromise at all. The really surprised me. They also have a W rating so you are good to go for the occasional track day. Thanks again for all the informative videos!!
Some constructive feedback...any chance you can film these sort of garage shots with a non wide angle lens? Distorted appearance is off putting. Love the channel, keep it up!
Hi TMF - I’ll go and check out the throttle spacers for my Speedmaster. The throttle lag at low revs is starting to annoy me! Great vid - you really love that bike and who can blame you! Yours aye, Alan
At first I thought you had switched cameras because the picture was a little blurry. Then I realized it was due to your velocity. 500 miles must have been less than 5 hours of seat time. :-)
Nice update, lovely bike, I can completely understand why you will keep it, it's costing very little and it's totally different to anything else in the garage. So that for me makes it a toss up between the GS and the Street Triple to be moved on, with the GS probably favourite to go.
Didn't notice much change in the video other than the fisheye. Keep the 899 long enough in that condition and it will probably appreciate over its original value !

I was thinking that!
Me too. lol
I was just polishing up my typing fingers as I got a cheque back for a car we traded in. Have to say, I didn't know you got it back, either.
just 3600 miles lol such a funny bald shorty lol
Nothing wrong with having a garage queen. :) It is a beautiful bike.
The 899 needs more road time mate, no point owning a playboy centrefold and not having fun with her.
ahahahahahahaha

You do get a refund for the tax still left from the dvla 👍🏽 from the month you sell the bike
I didn’t realise that - thanks for putting me right!
Bob Powar Was just about to make this comment! Just they don't give partial month refunds only the nearest full one.
Only full months refunded though when that v5 hits the dvla desk

Re the use of the go pro, I hadn't even realised a different camera until you mentioned it, so I looked back at the 2-year review for comparison. I prefer the darker go pro colours and I thought the sound was better that the 2-year review, although I am not sure what camera you were using then :-)
Awesome video thank you, was looking at getting an 848 evo but think I will save up for the 899.
Do they come with quickshifter etc
Great video. If I could choose I’d go back to the slr rather than the GoPro for the garage stuff. Just my 2 pence.
Cheers Alex!
Slowly but surely going crazy over this bike😂 I'll probably be looking to buy one in the next 6 months
Good plan!
Not to bad on the gopro very good and I will be looking forward to the next vlog
It’s the MRA varioscreen - a full screen with bolt on spoiler - search for my reviews!
A beautiful bit of kit. A bit off topic but have you ever ridden a Triumph Daytona 675? You love your Street Triple and you love your Ducati so you will love the Daytona for sure.
No I haven't as it happens...
For a 4 year old bike it looks absolutely brand spanking new! Well done on maintaining it! I hope one day I will own a Panigale 899/1199/1299. Hopefully before I get old and get a bad back and decide sportsbikes are not for me... :P
Cheers!
Hi TMF, After a little advise on the R&G clutch casing slider - currently looking at the one you have fitted along with a few others that look a little more substantial but do like the look of the half moon covering you have fitted. Not sure if you've had chance to test it but what are your thoughts on it - decent???
Yes I think it looks great - and I hope you don't mind but I'm not planning on testing it!!!
Honestly I didn't even notice the different camera until you pointed it out at the end, slight fisheye but looks fine.
Lovely bike and you are a lucky man. Have many safe miles with her. I am more of an I4 Jap bike guy, but I can see a Ducati's attraction.
Hi tmf, it good on the go pro and the sound was good and content was good and up date on your panagaly
Thanks for the "4" year update, TMF. Camera quality is good, but for my taste a bit too wide-angleish. ;) Maybe you try a different setting so that your face does not look like pulling 12 g's. ;) Cheers, Tim
:0)
Great bike TMF, some bikes grab your heart and are keepers for sure!. When you have a passion for bikes the 'depreciation ' affect isn't relevant...in good condition bikes reach a plateau of value and if your lucky become classics! Remember to move it round the garage so you can admire from different angles....or am I the only one that does that...? !! Cheers, Steve
No I do that to...and roll it out just for a look!
100 less per year?!! That bikes going to be a classic very soon. Keep it!
I intend to!
great vid once again tmf. cheers for sharing. thx.
Thank you for watching!
Another great video, Thanks @themissendenflyer. Have you replaced your stockpiles of Old Speckled Hen with non alcoholic beer and lemonade?!
Well the stocks turn over every now and then - looking a bit sad at the moment I must say.....
Love your videos! Can I ask you does your rear shock spring rub up against the bit of black plastic that’s beside it. Not the shock protector the other side plastic that’s up the side of the bike and runs under the tail piece. Just noticed when cleaning my bike that mine is
No it doesn’t…
"They go down by 100s a year". That says a awfull lot I guess if 15% off the total base goes off traffic every year.
@Bunnyshooter 223 yes and comparison to other brands would be intresting. Maybe the sane sort off a bike off another brand has the same numbers?
Most bikes like this are more garage ornaments than motorcycles, to put in perspective it’s costing not far off £2 every mile you ride it. A nice thing to have if you have excess cash but ultimately more suited to the track than the road.
I briefly ran an R1 with my GS, did around 1000 miles on the R1 and was always thinking of reasons to take the GS instead when I went for a ride so an easy decision to get rid of the R1....looked nice though in the garage.
Sadly you’re dead right - but I’ll be holding onto the Panigale for as long as I can - it’s a beautiful thing....
Hi Andy,
Can you please confirm if you have the ‘Db Killers’ installed in your Termi exhaust- or do you ride it without them fitted..?
If it’s the latter, do you have any issues with excessively exhaust noise at low engine speed ..?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Ian.
Funnily enough I only took them out for the first time last week - it is now LOUD!!! Wouldn't get on a track day......
No doubt the Panegali is a thing of beauty, love it. 😍💕
"Panigale" 👍🏻🙂, excuse me but it's hard enough to hear every time "Paenigaelei" (generally speaking, not in this video), at least when written it's good if it's spelled right
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😂😂
Please don't take it bad.
Cheers Cecil - always good to hear from you, it's been a while!
Hey missenden, love your videos, did you ever end up doing the 8 year review? I found one of these near me, im thinking of getting but wanted to see if its still the same good ratings after all these years. Ride safe
Err I can't remember! Sold the bike last year - just didn'tride it enough.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer haha no worries thanks for responding
Hi, the GoPro images were fine though a bit wobbly. Pity you don't get the chance to ride it more often but at roughly £500 for 500 miles (approx) it isn't that bad cost wise.
Beautiful! One day I'll have a collection as well. Good on you!
899 with a Termi exhaust is going to easy on the eye and music to the ears
The only difference with the change in camera is the slight fish eye effect on the peripherals.
Have you seen the single swing arm mod. I know you said you weren’t looking at any mods. Like the video quality of the GoPro 👍🏻
I have but CBA to be honest, I have no issue with the way the bike looks (in fact I love the way it looks!).
TheMissendenFlyer agree about the looks. I’m after an 899 myself. Love the Panigale look. Gorgeous bikes.
What’s your opinion on going to the dark side for the rear tyres ??
The dark side being???
TheMissendenFlyer using a car tyre on the rear of a motorcycle, something like a gold wing / large capacity maxi scooter
Very bad idea...
Another great video! Very informative.
Do you have any tips on cleaning the Termi’s?
Yours are in an immaculate condition with no exhaust spot staining. I’m in awe 👍
I don’t do anything special, normal washing and sometimes use tar remover (Autoglym) on them....
Yes a bummer isn’t it!
you certainly love your San Pelegrino's, your Beck's too. Love them both too, in fact, Cheers!
Brilliant!!
No I haven't Ron but thanks for the recommendation!
That'll be the GoPro for you....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Surely with how successful your channel is you can invest in a DSLR ;)
Love your videos brother, great job. It
Thank you
I say use whatever camera ya want. Content is great either way. And the bike looks amazing👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Quality with the GoPro is great. Only thing I would say is change from the super wide setting. It’ll get rid of that horrible fish eye effect.
Needed a slipper clutch on track, and the lock stops are made of cheddar
Nice vid and didn't notice the video quality to busy looking at the bike, but might go back and have another look. 👍
Hi TMF - I’ll go and check out the throttle spacers for my Speedmaster. The throttle lag at low revs is starting to annoy me! Great vid - you really love that bike and who can blame you! Yours aye, Alan
It's a brilliant mod Alan....
At first I thought you had switched cameras because the picture was a little blurry. Then I realized it was due to your velocity. 500 miles must have been less than 5 hours of seat time. :-)
"I hope to do some more miles on it" [paraphrasing] said the man who's just bought two new bikes....I don't fancy your chances ;-)
Nice update, lovely bike, I can completely understand why you will keep it, it's costing very little and it's totally different to anything else in the garage. So that for me makes it a toss up between the GS and the Street Triple to be moved on, with the GS probably favourite to go.
No way!!
Didn't notice much change in the video other than the fisheye. Keep the 899 long enough in that condition and it will probably appreciate over its original value !
