I'm trying out some law of attraction b.s. I'm gonna win a cool knife from you in the near future. I will treasure it, and it will pass down my family line, Thanks in advance Sir!
I’m waiting for a sale to pick one up but at 250 that’s a hard bargain. I have a native 5 that I love and they just released the bodacious which looks very similar to the shaman.
@kraken9883 The bodacious is full flat grind, but it has more meat behind the blade. Honestly I think the Shaman is better than the PM2 because of the geometry, and that knife has a similar thing going.
It's crazy to me that it's that expensive now. I bought my first Shaman BNIB on the secondary market for $100 flat. Standard black handles/S30V, but still. Hard to even look at the price of my beloved Spyderco now 😭
If I ever have the chance to own a Rockstead folder I will absolutely use it; all of the work they put into those knives can’t be properly appreciated without use. I’m really happy to see your Rockstead used as intended. Ferrari’s are meant to be driven after all. One day I’ll get my hands on one; and it will absolutely have the stingray inserts!
I just got the 10V REC Exclusive “Scorpion” Para 3. I knew it was an EDC must have and wanted an interesting one with good edge retention, but I wanted something different than Maxamet. I visited the page on REC a few times while it was in stock, but decided to let it go. I regretted it immediately after and found someone selling theirs on the secondary. Glad I took my second chance. The hype is real
I said the PM2 and Para3 were the stupidest looking knives I'd ever seen. Now I'm a Spyderco fan boy. I have a Crucarta PM2 and a Paul Munko PM2 on order, AND a PM3 LW in S90V that I'm planning on dressing up with AWT scales.
I like the Spyderco PM2 ( I have two of them 1 in s45vn the other is in s110v ) and the only other knife I would carry over it would be the Gerber 06 Automatic. The 06 Auto is built like a Panzer. You can pry with it, chop with it, I’ve even done some Batoning with mine when I camp and you get decent steel ( S30V )
I haven't been in the community super long, but here are mine according to my memory: 10: Monteray Bay Knives Old Guard 9: Kunwu Pulsar 8: Spyderco Delica 7: Chris Reeve Large Inkosi 6: Spartan Harsey 3.25 inch (I think it might be the one you reviewed, I bought it from nick shabazz and iirc he got it from you, might be wrong on that one) 5: QSP Penguin Plus 4: Spyderco Smock 3: Spartan Harsey Fullsize 2: Spyderco Manix 2 1: Benchmade mini bugout
yes it's the para3 lightweight for me can't keep that thing outta my pocket love it hardly know it's in there but always there when i need it great knife .
I'll try to drop my top ten here: 1. Arcane Crawler 2. SBD Apex 3. Varga Blades VBR MKIII 4. EMPEDC Nymble W 5. Jake Hoback Sumo 6. Kunwu S-Tao 7. AD20 in full Ti 8. Chapman Lake Knives CLK-2D 9. Arno Bernard iMamba 10. WE Ziffius
I used to be die hard benchmade until I ordered my first spyderco a few months ago, smkw exclusive pm2 with fat carbon lava flow scales and a cpm m4 blade, thing was lazer sharp out of the box and after some hard abuse is still just as sharp. Although me carrying a bunch of stuff in my pockets and it being kinda bulky I opted for a pm3 which is now on the way because of this video Hope I like mine as much as you do yours!👍🏼
Not such a Microtech fan, I've had five or six ( lubed ) different, new, knives derail / not want to deploy or retract. I like the pm2( camo ), I like the shaman, I LOVE the S90 / carbon fiber Yojumbo!
Man I love this channel. I have a lot of knives but it’s always a spyderco in my pocket. Not a fanboy or any brand I’m a fan of knives. Out of all my knives a spyderco tends to hit the pocket the most. My pm2 has been the main for 4 years. It’s not my favorite to say, but it’s the one I would want to be stuck with if any.
15 years or so ago, I bought a Ken Onion designed knife I really liked the looks of. Have purchased two more since the first one, for better blade steel. I have a lot of knives to choose from as well, some pretty pricey, but the Kershaw Blur keeps showing up in my pocket almost daily.
I carried a Benchmade 710 for many years before adding a few other knives to the rotation. I mostly carry a ZT 562 now and occasionally a Microtech LUDT.
I'm not a Spyderco fan? I've tried to like them had quite a few over the years! I've got a fairly large knife collection (50-60) my most carried knife is my original green scale 940 I've had it over 10 years and it just such a joy to carry love it!
Have you had any issues with the PM3 Maxamet with the Detent ball? I’ve had mine just about a year & sent it in once to get it fixed…it’s getting loose again. I use it but not heavily. I’ve used my Endura s30v more often. Thoughts?
I’ve never thought the Spyderco knives were ugly but that’s because I started using them when I was 10 and back then everything was bad ass! I will have to say my top knives in the coming months will 100 percent be Titanium Atom, Demko AD20.5 textured Ti, and one of my many variations of the Pyrite. I won’t have the Winterblade Factor B3 until December but once I get that it will definitely see a lot of pocket time
I have a Colonial Ranger three blade pocketknife as my EDC, I bought it at an antique store for ten dollars. I also have a Buck lock blade pocketknife I carry occasionally.
Sorry, I don't get the AD20.5. Its interesting because the lock is different, but cutting geometry, build quality, ergonomics are all lacking. I agree on the XM-18, tough and excellent build quality though as often as not I'll opt for the ZT562 just because I have so many. Going to have to check out the Recon35 as an alternative to my Ultratech.
Interesting vid. I like some of your choices. Others not so much. My top 5: 1) Spyderco Endura 4 in solid stainless - been carrying for decades. Can easily and quickly 1-hand operate despite spine lock. 2) CRKT Ruger Hollow Point +P - Ken Onion design does not fail. Got for $7 clearance at WalMart! Easily a $100 knife if sold elsewhere. 3) Paragon Warlock (black on black, sorcerer grind) - So fun, so sharp, so sexy. Must be kept lubricated at all times, but amazing knife. 4) Pocket Chete by Joerg Sprave/Boker. I only wear this while camping/out in the country, because I wear it unfolded. I got #75 out of 5000 made, limited edition (jealous yet?) Still carry it. 5) Cold Steel Recon Tanto, 1993 edition. You cant kill this knife. I have tried.... and I still have 70 years on my 100 year warranty. Not folding at all, still often carried.
my top 10, which I use for work, my grunt knives and what I trust to beat up on In no particular order and not counting my Gentlemens knives Buck 110 Spyderco Centofante 3 ZT 0562 both CF TI version Tops MSF 4.0 folder Milwaukee Fastback - as long as utilities knives count Blur - my opinion has the most comfortable thumb studs of all knives. Benchmade 761 PM 2 ZT 0566 Demko AD 20.5
I can't believe you made the $1500 Rockstead a daily carry! I love it! I am of the same opinion though. If I'm going to pay a crazy amount for a pocket knife, it HAS to be able to stand up to daily use no matter how nice it looks.
Ive owned all 3 of the spidercos shown, the shaman is the only one ive kept. Just cant get used to that lump on the spine. The ritter however I have to say is a go to.
My PM3 lite in dark blue other than my fixed blades is my favorite EDC. folder Knife. I really love my 3 sub 3" fixed blades. The three fixies carry in this order. 1. ESSE Izula in s35vn with custom scales from Knife Connection 2. ESEE Xancudo 3. Spyderco Enuf.
HELP! so I’m new to collecting knifes and my only knife so far is a bugout with titanium scales. What knife should a buy next? 200$ budget, could go over by 30$ or so buy I’d rather not
Hi @metal_complex, very fun video! Speaking of most carried EDC, what‘s your 2023 opinion on the Spyderco Kapara? I love it much more than the PM2 because it‘s so hand-meltingly smooth, perfect size & ergonomy to me 🥰
Thanks for sharing bud!👊🏻Spyderco was always a hideous knife to me but I got drunk from the heat treat and performance of it when I tried it and now they have became that perfect 10 to me😂
Brah, the Shaman on Blade HQ as of today July 23, 2023, is,... wait for it,... $252. Yeah,... great knife, but when the base S45VN PM2 is $185, Spyderco's got some Spydersplaining to do.
Hi, your videos are very informative. But being new to the knife craze, I wish you would do three things on every knife: blade length, overall length, and length closed. That would help me so much because I look at these knives. I think they’re fantastic but I’m looking for a certain size and then I have to do a lot of research to find it and……. I find some of the sites don’t even list that stuff but I’m sure you know you know it…. Thanks!
You a need to do a list for the knives you fidget with most around the house. Also when you're done with a video do you head upstairs immediately or do you wait around and play with knives in your little sanctum sanctorum?😁😁😂😂
For my edc use*, I've not found one that isn't a button lock warncliff, with a reverse flick. Ease of deployment? Check Ease of use, for my use? Check Ease of blade away, back into pocket? Check. I still want to try the Demco. * my edc use- One handed out of pocket deployment. Do the task. Most any knife, ehhhhhh not really, but, right? One handed close and back into pocket(while my other hand is still doing the thing). Smock Pyrite Conspirator Yard carry- zt0350 (yes, you can baton with it). Which is different than work carry because I'm less focused on economy of motion and safety (I'm in my yard alone typically).
@metal_complex if you wanted to get into an OTF on a limited budget, not knowing if you'll like them, what would be your recommended model? Ultratech? or something else
I have about 6 benchmade knives and I always go to the contego. I know probably nobody carries this but for me its the knife I always carry and for some reason when I carry my other knives I immediately go back to the contego. I really dont know why.
I’m a firearms lover…. Which branched into everyday carry knives. I have a PM2 (and many other good knives)… while the Spyderco is nice. An extremely surprising knife for me is the Kizer Original titanium with s35vn steel. The button lock/scales/smoothness for the price is unbelievable; the clip is perfect and it fits perfectly in the pocket. Sad to say… American companies take note. Edit: my everyday CC is a CZ PCR…. No glock for me. All personal preferences of course.
I am also a Kizer fan. Almost every single one of their under $200 knives is every bit as good as most $400 (+) knives, i.e. extremely good. They are, due to their price, much more common than more costly semi-custom knives, but IMHO, they’re about as good.
Mr Complex, got some gems on here! Wish I could appreciate a mirror polish, I really do 🤷♂️ Just got my first PM2 - the recent BHQ s90v version was cheaper than the OG? Couldn’t resist. Looking at my first OTF…hard to resist Microtech but there are so many options now…. Prefer full size. Recommendation?
Let me rephrase…if there will only be one (for now) is it worth getting the Ultratech for the experience (it’s the legend) or the guardian tactical which may be better?
I have a collection of similar size (over 100) and I'm not ashamed to admit that several of my knives cost well over a thousand dollars and I carry & use the hell out of them!! Though, all of my knives still have their tips lol! 😂
Spyderco PM2 was my first nice knife i loved it instantly. Everytime I try out someone else's knife im always underwhelmd even if its been a "nicer"/more expensive knife. If its a folder I need to be able to spydie flick it and have a compression lock for me personally. I know ill get a Military 2 one day though when they start doing sprint runs and theres a interesting steel option I like. Held a PM3 and it was nice but i love the full sized handel on the PM2 no benefit of PM3 in my eyes besides if you have bad laws where you live.
Veryt Funny Today was my AHA day with the PM2... I had a Factiry scale on it and hated it... but then I got th Flytanium Scales in Brass and and I LOVE IT!!
I don't like knives with holes in the blades. So yes, I have no Spiderco knives. I dislike my only Benchmade knife and rarely use my only Zero Tolerance knife. My EDC is a Kizer Clutch. It's not a popular model and I don't understand why not. I have a Kizer Deviant ordered because I like the copper bolster and the Sheepfoot M390 blade. If the workmanship is as good as the Clutch, it will likely become my EDC. My price limit for ANY knife is $200. There are many excellent quality knives under $200. In fact Ganzo makes incredible budget knives. I have bought three of them. My second most favorite knife is a Twoson. Twosun knives are underrated.
1.Benchmade Mini Barrage 154cm 2.Benchmade Autostryker 154cm 3.spyderco mannix s110v 4.Benchmade valet m390 5.Benchmade hunt s30v 6.Chaves redencion street 7.Microtech utx85 8.Chaves Liberation street 9.Heretic auto medusa 10.Medford praetorian ti S45vn I've owned the top 5 for a decade or 2 decades. They are worn from being sharpened so many times. The bottom 5 are 5 or less years old. Have a feeling I'm not going to have the same top ten in the same order over the next decade.
@@indica_daze my wishlist is pretty long and that is among my wish list. I just don't have one yet. So far for me, Benchmade Autostryker, Chaves redencion street, Chaves liberation street, heretic medusa, and Kaiser gti have been the best fit for me. Chaves redencion street is my absolute favorite. For me, it beats my more expensive knives like Medford praetorian ti, Chris Reeve sebenza, microtech stitch.

Base Shaman is $252 now. I got one during the recent Spyderco sale, and I do love it. Probably my favorite Spyderco design.

It's a great list. All heavy hitters and no fillers. Excellent production value, as well.
And due to your praise of that RECON-035, I purchased a RECON-040 in drop point and it’s always on me (I tend to carry more than one knife at a time.
I just picked up a Shaman in 15V. It's an absolute beast. I also have one in 204P that I did a skinny mod on. Great design

Yay! The Rockstead showed up!
Triple thwap 24/30
PS how do you feel about the ad20.5 in s35vn/g10 at the pricepoint its at (250)?
Nice Vid, Solid lineup, and recomendations!
My daily that lives in my pocket is my benchmade 940. Occasionally switching out to the Para 3.
This was A Good one MC!
I would’ve thought the deadlock would’ve beaten out the ultratech. Is it concern for damaging such a piece of knife art you don’t EDC it as much?
Yes. But as soon as I receive my John Wick edition, I'll probably EDC the other one
I have a collection of similar size (over 100) and I'm not ashamed to admit that several of my knives cost well over a thousand dollars and I carry & use the hell out of them!! Though, all of my knives still have their tips lol! 😂
What kind of steel is the ZT? Thank you.
204p
@@metal_complex Thank you.
Does anyone have the same bladeplay issue on the Para 3? I dont know what to do but it drives me nuts.
where is the exitron?
100% agree about the shaman. I know it has its detractors but the shaman and the OG millie set the ergonomic standard for me…
Doesn't look like they get much use by the looks of them. You keep them in great shape.
Microfiber and break free clp will wipe away almost anything. A dirty knife is a knife that is soon to be retired.
Hey MC, long time viewer and first time commenter. I’m wondering what’s a good Shaman alternative for a lefty?
Nice to see a Herman pop up on there!
I would have you had you for a PM2 over a PM3 for size
Scarab 2 or combat troodon ? If can only have one
Scarab
140?. You def got me beat, Nicely done.
No Bugout?? Lol. But seriously, why no Benchmade like an Osborne?
That time has come and gone for me.
@@metal_complexthis response made me feel so young😂
I love my PM2 so much I got my girl a Para 3 to fit her hand.
Have you ever considered repairing or having someone repair the tip?
Honestly I kind of like it this way. It's like a battle scar (even though I did it out of stupidly)
Love Spyderco knives🤤
no buck knife?
Great video!!

7.Microtech utx85
8.Chaves Liberation street
9.Heretic auto medusa
10.Medford praetorian ti S45vn
I've owned the top 5 for a decade or 2 decades. They are worn from being sharpened so many times. The bottom 5 are 5 or less years old. Have a feeling I'm not going to have the same top ten in the same order over the next decade.
No super freak? I was a knife collector then I got a super freak now nothing else ever sees my pocket
3:22 face reveal of our father 😮🎉
Shaman clone is my edc real one sis in my safe. Absolutely amazing knife though
What clone?! Do tell please! 🤙🏼
I want a spiderco so badly. I'm blind but love collecting knives
Man I’m watching this dude show me all these awesome knives and all I’m buying is a svord mini peasant knife and a victorinox huntsman
