Seeing the Spydie chef in meh, I have 3 choices. I can either unsubscribe and forget you exist, sell the knife, realizing my love of it is misdirected, or continue to love the knife and appreciate that we all have different tastes. Another very fun video, MC!

Shaman, Para 3, and Chef are the only 3 models of Spyderco I carry anymore after trying 25+ models.

I have a couple of the Manix XLs. So I have had this thought on more than one occasion. Eric Glesser snuck into my room when I was sleeping, took detailed measurements of my hand, and designed the scales to fit to perfection. S Tier on my list. Plus you throw in steels like 4V, M4, and Cru-Wear, and you have a serious work knife.

Just wanted to thank you for the lock stick video. I recently got a military 2 that was an absolute bear for about a month. I flicked open and closed the thing so much I got callouses on the tips of my pointer and middle fingers. 😅 But you were right lol. Thousands of openings and closings later, it is now buttery smooth and has no stick at all. Don’t think I’ll ever sell this one. It was tough to get it to like me.

Post video comment: personally I like the matriarch/civilian. Purpose built knife for undercover work. It’s an excellent knife but trash for edc because the tip would be too fragile. I personally like backlocks, and the native 5 is probably one of my favorite knifes of all time up there with the sage 5.

I keep coming back to the endura and delica, the combo of great ergonomics, thin edge geometry, light weight, and K390 option make it hard for me to kick out of my pocket.
Have you tried Manix 2 lightweight? I would like a Delica in my collection for sure.

For me. The top 3 is the shaman in 15v, lil temprance in k390 and the manix in maxamet😊
I have carried a Caly 3.5 daily for quite a while. Just fits easily in the pocket with slacks or jeans and is more than capable of multiple tasks.

Native 5 is in my S-tier and it's the only knife i own i have no negative opinions about. i have three of them. 3 Manix 2s, too.

I like this type of content. You always say you want to help new people. This gives new people like me an idea where to start when checking out a new brand. Just got a PM2 as my first Spyderco and really enjoying it. Think I’ll check out a Manix next to see what that locking system is all about. I hope it has better feel than the traditional omega spring crossbar lock
My big problem with Yojimbo/Yojumbo is they look like they're just sitting there waiting for the tip to snap off. Just looking at pics makes me stressed.

I got the BHQ Yojumbo when it was on sale and when I got it I was like “what did I do?!” Have to say it carries surprisingly well and love it…if the tip snaps it snaps…it’s a tool

Manix 2 is my vote for the best Spyderco. Hated it when I first saw it, decided to buy one and it has since become my favorite.
The lil native is top tier. I got the S90V version, which definitely belongs in top tier now that I put arctic blue fat carbon scales on it.
Small knives deserve more love. They do most things better than normal size knives do.

@@shamitoson I have four PM2s and they basically never see pocket time. My lil native sits in a slip with a flashlight and a UTX-70 which makes my pocket more days than it doesn't.
PM2 is fine. Lil native is actually great.

Damn you MC it’s inconceivable that you wouldn’t rank the native 5 as legend tier!!
Best looking spyderco hands down IMO or at least up there, infinite steel choices, better cutting geometry than the golden compression locks, best spydie backlock in regards to lockup and action that I’ve ever handled, linerless construction on both the g10 and LW models but with none of the often associated cheap feeling of linerless FRN. Also IME unlike the seki models the native 5 variants either come centered or are very easy to center.
Add to that the increasing availability of aftermarket scales (RGT has Ti [and other materials] scales for the g10 variants while AWT has aluminium scales in a variety of finishes, cerakotes etc for the LW) and clips for the Native 5 range and IMO you have a certified LEGEND!!!
Also for anyone who thinks you can’t flick out a native 5; disassemble the knife, clean it up, and put some quality lube (gunny glide, kpl etc) on the washers/washer contact surfaces and reassemble. IME with both my LW and G10 Native this brought them from being impossible to reverse flick and difficult to thumb flick to be extremely easy to do both. Of course the technique is slightly different since a backlock is providing closing force till the blade opens about 1/4 of the way as opposed to a liner lock which is essentially free moving as soon as the detent pops out so you need to “follow through” a bit with your flick, shouldn’t require wrist or anything stupid like that tho ❤
My current top 5 are probably:
1) DLC Cruwear Native 5 wearing bronze anodised RGT fluted ti scales and a purple anodised lynch clip
2) s30v Sage 5 LW - hands down best washer comp lock action and lockup stability - new ripple pattern cerakoted aluminium scales inbound from RGT (only 64.95 😮)
3) DLC s45vn Para 3 w/AWT blue cerakote aluminium scales and a coated MXG para clip
4) K390 Wharnie Delica wearing Nickabrack contoured arctic storm fat carbon scales with an MXG milled clip
5) s30v Mantra 3 with the detent hole drilled out so the ball actually seats properly and it actually flips really well now also has a customised CME to eliminate the issue of the flipper passing through the compression lock area and hitting your finger when you close it. Now you just press the CME button and the flipper passes through a cutout in the CME. Also managed to get a lynch clip to fit in there to replace the wire clip. So, stock the mantra 3 is pretty meh but with the mentioned mods it’s a beast!
During the pandemic, Spyderco mailed me & my troops serated blades to crack open boxes in supply for the Army. Enjoyed this MC and thanks for the knowledge. Hooah
I’ve got a lot of Spydercos all are awesome but I’ve used my Manix xl for close to 2 years everyday for work it’s gotten some hard use and it holds up so good the ergos for my are perfect for me definitely a huge W and up there in my top 5 favorite folders also you’re right about the chef being meh I’ve held one and I thought it would like it more but didn’t care for the feel of it great video btw

The Matriarch II is ugly, and weird-shaped, yes, but it is so wickedly fierce and strong that it definitely deserves more love and appreciation.

Having gotten to handle some real custom Peter Rassenti nirvanas and the Spyderco Paysan I can say that is one of my favourite Spyderco knives

No wonder I was having so many issues with loose screws and changing scales! Spyderco is giving me a 50% credit toward purchasing a new knife. No love for my Spyderco ikuchi? How dare you sir. You have done me a great injustice and I... Am just kidding. While mine in particular was the one tou festured on the channel about 2 years ago, I can agree with you that its interesting, but ultimately not fantastic to carry. The clip is fine but the cog has such a heavy detent it'll rip your thumb to shreds more often than deploy the knife. Awesoem video as always MC. Looking forward to the Hinderer tier list, perhaps with the different blade shapes/grinds and finishes instead of just models alone.
My legend list would include: military, PM2, para 3, Gayle Bradley Air, Manix 2, Smock, Kapara, Chaparral (2mm xhp is 👍 ), Sage 5, Domino (except that ugly scale) and Tenacious (just because it introduced Spyderco to way mote people when it dropped at about $30 years ago).
I agree on the Spydiechef, didn't like it that much. Don't have a Shaman so i can't comment on it.
Without question, the Sage 5 LW will be my first new Spyderco. It just ticks every single box for what I want from a knife.
Also super validating that three of my personal top five favorites are top tier.
It's even more validating that you share my feelings of how completely and totally underwhelming the Delica is.
Is it a good knife? Yes.
Is it 'OH MY GOD THE BEST EDC KNIFE OF ALL TIME'? Not even remotely close. I think if every online platform didn't shill them as the end-all-be-all of pocket knife perfection, they wouldn't be half as popular anymore, especially given how damn expensive they are for what you get.

I own a Smock, a Manix (sabre-grind) and a Para3 (all 3 modded) and can't tell which one I like the most!
Sorry, also the stretch 2 straight spine in k390 is the PM2 lightweight that doesn’t exist. I have been with metal complex since the original blur tanto, tiger striped, partial serrated video but i think the new stretch needs a voice besides Pete from Cedric and Ada.

unless something has changed, the Valloton Subhilt comes from the factory as a manual action, which can be converted to an auto. For something around 2 bills more than the original price of the knife. But again, I have one, and it is NOT dual-action.
On the Matriarch wave edition I agree, but the Matriarch 2 without the wave, I had one, notice I said HAD because I lost it damnit, it's a smaller Civilian, it was one of if not my MOST used knife now the Spyderco Spyderhawk with H1 steel which I'm not a huge fan of, they said it's gets harder the more it's shrpened, I can confirm IT DOES NOT, the VG10 is much much better by far on the Matriarch 2. I use to not be a fan of serrated blades but I must admit, serrated knives definitely have their place, big hard plastic straps, rope, zip ties, they with the hawk bill blade with the serrations just dig in and cut, PERIOD, they do not slip out or off the cut. Just procured the Yojumbo at Blade Show Texas, Love it and have a few more Spydercos. Love your channel, thanks for your reviews, stay safe and God bless.

The canis is definitely the most underrated spyderco. Does everything beautifully, just wish the scales were nicer and had better access to the compression lock. Also L take on the matriarch.
I tried to like the Amalgam because I'm a sucker for flipper knives and there's very few of those in the Spyderco line up. However, my sample had a super lazy flipper action (slow velocity) that would not fully open with out assistance from a wrist flick. Not what you want from a flipper imo. That's too bad.
I like backlocks a lot. As a leftie I don't like the compression lock. Why don't they just make a button lock?
The Chaparral is a Big W.

I started out in the knife enthusiast community “knowing” the Endura and delica were legends and why knives are the way they are now but… when I carry a delica now I feel like I’m at a bad company concert when I could have gone to a Led Zeppelin concert.
I 100% agree with your list except for 3 Spydercos... Swayback, Drunken, & Techno all Huge Wins in my eyes...😭😭😭...and what about the SpydeyCo Myto? I'm glad it exists

Caly 3 & 3.5 are my absolute favorite Spyderco's. But the Native Magnacut is so goddamn tough i can put it through anything and its fine hahahaha. So underrated.
I would love to get a Shaman, but already having a Manix XL and a Pm2 crucarta i simply can not justify the price, if i do get another spyderco it will probably be a PM3 in crucarta cuz thats a different sized knife that i can take some places i cant take the other 2.

First I purchased Endura 4 Edela and Rock Jumpers and decided to upgrade to Maxin 2 in G10 made in the in US but discovered that the access lock did not work I tried to lube it nothing, apparently Spyderco has gotten so big they no longer have quality control which is their lost because I'll never purchase another Spyderco again and to think that I waited 2 months for restock goodbye Spyderco
The only thing I'm gonna disagree with you on is the tenacious. I almost gave up on Spyderco after owning that. The 8cr blade would go dull if you looked at it wrong. I'd put it under poopoo town. But that's just my opinion.

You have a clear preference for bigger knives
I am here to condemn you for ranking the Spydiechef so low. Its designed as a folding chef knife with a little EDC knife flair. LC200N is a great steel for that purpose. The only thing I dislike about it is the locking mechanism, I wish it was a compression lock knife. It's a huge W for me.
Also, I bought a Shaman years ago partly from your appraisal of it. Not a bad knife, but did not live up to the hype you gave it. It is very much a "meh" knife for me. It works but nothing really stands out as noteworthy about it. And the price hikes really got me questioning if its worth the praise it once got.
But most importantly you ranked my favorite Spyderco knife in legend tier. The Spyderco Kapara is an ergonomical dream. You can choke up on it with the finger choil up front, you can bear down on it with the spine curve perfectly fitting your thumb, you can choke back on it where the tail flare keeps your palm snug around the handle and even holding it upside down feels good where the butt of the handle is a nice spot for your thumb to land on. And its arguably the best looking Spyderco knife where the carbon fiber handle looks amazing qnd the red back slacer gives it nice pop of color. My only gripe is that the carbon fiber is slippery when wet. Otherwise ktsca flawless design.

I'm surprised you didn't have the GBradley or GBradley 2 in here. I love my GB2.. S tier in my opinion, (With mod to liner lock) Overall, great list. I pretty much agree with all your S tier selections. EDIT: It was in there, I missed it.
