Like this comment if you'd be interested in me making a tutorial vid of the setup! I don't really know what I'm doing more than the next guy, but I got it working so I could probably help you to get it working as well. Hows that for a sales pitch?
To clarify, the Render96 project wasn't about making the game look "modern", quite the contrary, that aim was to make the game look like the Pre-Rendered Trailers that came out in 1996, hence the name. You can look them up to compare them. They've updated the models of lot over the years to make them more faithful.
I've seen a couple videos of yours already, Subscribed of course because they're great! U got me redownloading Mirrors edge after 10 years in the dust, and playing OoT in 120 Fps, Keep up the good work dude!
Fuck I remember building this in a command line, I'm glad to see how far it's come. When the ROM got decompiled I would look up if it was ported to the PC every month, then it was and I spent like a day and a half learning how to compile it since there wasn't a UI for the builder, I also got to watch render 96 be developed in real time before their discord chat was made private. Incredible how far it's come.
@@williammackay-murphy1905 generally more control of the options, better for modders creating the mods (If it helps for credibility I work for Render96 xD)
It's pretty easy these days, I'm pretty sure the builder tells you how now, If not the discord has tutorials too and the UA-cam channel unreal has plenty of vids too. Though take everything I said with a grain of salt because I haven't been active in the community for like 2 years now.
Love that you took upon my request for covering Render96! (And sorry for the wall of text explaining what it does :D ) I have just one question: Where were the Render96 textures in your video? It seemed as though you were using a custom texturepack not made by Render96 throughout the whole video. The textures in question should look just like the original ones in a higher resolution. Now, I would assume that you're simply not familiar enough with the original game to notice that, but I'm still curious.
You should take a look at the amazing fan enhancement of the pc port of Silent Hill 2, was the way I first played it and it was amazing, really shows just how bad the "official" SH2 remake was stood next to SH2 Enhanced port
@@HowGoodGames It's technically a mod for the original pc port of the game, but it does so much in fixing the problem with the broken pc port and adds so many customisation options that I would consider it its own fan made port

3:32 this statement is really weak. PS5 games are more demanding than a N64 game with improved recoded for PC no less, OFCOURSE ray-tracing will be a struggle.
My first Mario I played was was super Mario bros 3, but the first one I beat was 64. Both I played on the original console, Still never beat 3. Great vid can't wait to try it out sometime, especially with those enhancements.
Thanks dude! I have dabbled with 3 but still waiting for it to click, since a lot of people have it up there as best Mario game ever. Hopefully one day I get it haha
5:50 Nobody will admit it, but this is so true. I grew up playing Mario 64, I remember asking my sister to beat Bowser for me, it has a special place in my heart... I fucking hate how it controls now. The only good thing about them is you can abuse the janky (It was basically the first 3d platformer) programming to launch Mario all over the place, but personally I can't stand that Mario moves like a hovercraft. I use the Oddyssey moveset even though I haven't played SMO and enjoy it way more.
I tried to use this compiler before but it ended up deleting WiFi driver files on my computer but this video has made me want to give it another shot after however many updates it has had since then.
@@blocks4857 Because I dared to hit "Start". Literally all I did. I'd give it another try at some point but for right now I ain't really that fussed tbh.

I wish we could get one of these but for Jet Force Gemini. The controls on the Xbox version are still bad and have horrible deadzone and aim smoothing. The OG version on N64 emulates like shite. It'd be amazing if someone gave it modern 3rd person aiming and FPS stability.
I think the only graphics mods I would use would be widescreen and the higher resolution versions of the original textures. All those graphical “improvements” look really ass.
"The code is open source and Nintendo cn't do much about it". They can do something if the situation allows them to do so, just like Rockstar and Take-Two sued the devs of the re3/vc project which reverse enginnered GTA3/VC. By now the code doesn't hold any intellectual property from Nintendo like assets or the original code from 1996, so the only action that Nintendo could do was taking down the download links which contained the assets extracted from the rom, but if the source code contained the rom file, any copyrighted asset or any code from the giga leak Nintendo can even sue the devs AFAIK the only way to get Super Mario 64 PC Port running is to package it with the rom, unlike Ship or Harkanian which the rom is only required to extract the assets or Cannonball which the roms needsto me present all the time and are loaded on the fly (one rom is miising and the game will not boot), I think that's a big disaventage in term of distribution
