Welcome to the British army gentlemen. It’s a club of many characters and nationalities and all who speak of you do so with the greatest of respect and admiration . “Better to die than be a coward”.👍🇬🇧👊
Very proud of the Gurkhas, a truly formidable reputation and held in the highest respect. My Grandfather served alongside them in the Chindits. He always spoke highly of them all, congratulations and best wishes to you all.
I was a volunteer medical mission worker in Nepalajung. There was an Gurka Army base en route to the hospital. They did road work in full pack n frames. Retired Gurka's guarded the housing at the medical college I stayed at in town. They are highly respected in their own country. Draw a pension for life back at home good for them.
With an almost perfect pass rate, the British army could probably triple the size of the force recruited each year with no drop in those very high standards. Given their excellent combat history of about 200 years, I don't see a downside, especially when army recruiters in the wider British army are having problems reaching their quotas.
Yet the British government didn't want to give them citizenship when they finished their service but happy to give everything to people who haven't done anything for this country.
As a Nepali I have seen these young guys train very hard in the mountains of Nepal with an one and only objective - to be enlisted in British Army. The amount of hard work they put is something out of ordinary and this video shows why they pass at a very high percentage.
With shortages in the Infantry and numbers down we should triple the Gurkha intake numbers as a minimum. British politics standing in the way as usual. These amazing soldiers just never cease to amaze. Politics gone wrong! Recruiting not working but nobody wants to address the situation!
It's nothing to do with British politics, there is a tripartite agreement in place between the UK, India and Nepal that the UK cannot alter unilaterally.
The Gurkha selection is based on on forced marches carrying rocks because traditionally Gurkhas were hill farmers and couldn’t run long distances in a straight line.
Very hypocritical of Britain to have these soldiers from Nepal in their army and not give them UK citizenship. After their service they can apply like any other person from Nepal but must meet other residency requirements. Shameful treatment.
The selection just to join the Gurka infantry is more competitive than the selection process for the Australia SAS (not harder a lot more people apply)… really tells you all you need to know about these guys.
Nice to have a group of people who don't keep criticizing our imperial past see the positive side what Britain did for them unlike a lot of the other cultures we have here.
A lot of them were tricked, being students in Russia and such The Nepalese recruits in the Russian Army are crying to go home, while the ones in the British Army love it Just gives you a idea of which country treats them better, Gurkha rights withstanding
What a difference to the woke other army that masquerades as the British army. They are a great bunch of fellows and it is interesting they are training where I was born 90 years ago. My dad was in the East York's.
That alcohol culture is becoming a thing of the past. The younger generation of soldiers spend less time in the bar and more time in the gym than previous generations, on average.
Sodexo's contact caused all the cheap and secret camp bars down so they'd have the monopoly of drink sales on camp! But seeing as most troops spend their down time masterbating and playing games consoles they don't mix and socialise like they used to
The UK government has allowed the possibility of female gurkhas since 2018, but the Nepalese government does not currently allow them to sign up. We have no say over what Nepal decides to do regarding military service gender laws.
No glory for the mercenaries. Nobody would fight other country if thier own country is rich. Being a Nepali we should rejecte the idea of idealising this.
