Kudos, Aljazeera. A beautiful story told in 25 minutes. Karishma is a great journalist. I wish she gets us part two of this spellbinding documentary where she will follow up on both the guys who made it to the British army and those who lost the race. Will Khamal retry his luck (next time)? And now that those who made it are on their way to financial freedom, how would their families' livelihood be going forward? I want to know. Great production!
One of the reasons that India won the Kargil war was because the Gurkhas were able to scale a 100 foot wall of solid ice. The Pakistanis had left this side of the mountain unguarded because they felt that no one could climb the wall of ice. Once the Gurkhas scaled the wall they were at a higher height than the Pakistanis and had the upper hand.
My late father soldiered with the Gurkhas in Burma and he told me that they were loyal, completely reliable and possessed of a sense of humour. He was proud to have served with them. we are lucky to have them with us.

The story of the noble Gurkha people and the heroic contributions they have made to the British military has to be one of the most moving and unique of our times. The Brigade of the Gurkhas is legendary and highly respected around the world for its military prowess, fearlessness in battle, and above all, loyalty, discipline, and honor. This is what makes me so sad when I read about the discrimination that Gurkha troops have suffered and the lengths they have had to go to get equal pay, pensions, and even the right to live in the UK after their service. When I started watching the documentary, it seemed to me like it would a no-brainer that these troops would automatically qualify for citizenship. Apparently not. Yet they have been fighting for Britain for as long as the United States has been a Republic. Imagine that!
For some of us it’s our dream/aim to be a part of British army and continue the legacy of our forefathers and earn the respect,we train for it for years to reach to the top final selection despite having to face failure through year after year sharpening ourselves , learning from our mistake but still ,now we wokeup from our dreams , dreams which is just some small talks for someone and nightmares that tells us we can never be that which we dreamed off, painful memories for rest of our lives. To all the boys, stay strong , life’s long 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I met some of these Gurkhas when I was working for the MOD in Wales. Small, polite, ferocious with rock solid mentalities. I felt that any one of them could have easily killed me with a flick of a wrist if they've wanted to.
Nothing to be proud of If we become economically best country & can give employment to own citizen, good education, & others then only we can feel proud.
For Rohit it was all or nothing, go big or go home, how bad do you want this? He showed sheer determination and succeeded. I can only imagine how proud his mother is. Congratulations!!!
What a legacy an association of 200 long years . When I was young it was a bit easy but now it's like enrolling to the most famous university in the world. Well, al zezera presented it so well, thnx alot
These men are held in absolute admiration and respect in the UK. There courage and loyalty is legendary. Their history unparalleled. Their behaviour exemplary. The stories told of them legendary.
We are so pround to have them, so proud that they want to join. We welcome them and their families. (A few years ago an ex Gurkha installed my new gas boiler, we talked for ages after he finished. he was one of the famous four... Gurung)!
Some of the cheaper and more improvised equipment, yet one of the best fighting forces on earth with incredibly determined soldiers. Shows a lot about what willpower and perseverance can do.
A well done film documentary, Ms Vyas. Excellent quality introduction into the family background of two of the men. I do have a curiosity as to the quality and substance of their aptitude tests, probably a "need to know" only basis. Your docs Kashmir (2017) as a militarized zone and Limbs of Hope (2019) have always stuck w/ me as skillful, passionate investigative journalism. Thank you for your heart... of caring. Especially needed in today's changing world of SARS-2 pandemic. Time of recovery will be unknown in the making.🐈
I am from the Philippines and has always been fascinated with the military. I could feel the pain of those who have prepared physically and mentally for years and loaned money to support their training - only to be rejected. This rejection can destroy even the strongest man, because their causea and reasons of joining are greater than just be a gurkha. It is just so heart breaking. My CONGRATULATIONS to all who made it. I just hope that these men will not be treated a mere commodity by the british royals. And as for those who were not chosen, French Foreign Legion is also a good option. By the way, why would they pay for their training? Shouldn't that be free?
They join the training centres with all the training facilities- which is like a hostel where they live and train for years. They have to pay for it; and it is usually run by ex-army personnel.
Iam also in the list who was not selected at the last moment ☹️One of the best dream that remain unfulfilled .. ☹️ I recall those days those moments those tears ... Still thankful to God 🙏❤️

look at the striking spirit of these guys... Respect to all my brothers.
It would have been Great Moment for Nepal if it was 100 years back when everything was about MUSCLE POWER. At the age of Artificial Intelligence, Nano Technology, Robotics,Internet, Atom bomb, Biological weapons, I find it VERY SAD to believe that my country People still have SLAVE MENTALITY. ALL NEPALESE AROUND THE GLOBE NEEDS TO USE THEIR GOURKA BRAVERY IN SHARPING THIER MIND, HEART, HEALTH AND SOUL TO EVOLVE OUR EDUCATION, BUSINESS, AWARENESS AND POLITICS rather THAN feeling PROUD FOR THINGS THAT COUNTS SO LITTLE IN THE WORLD STAGE THAT WE LIVE IN.

I'm half Irish half Nepalese and this video makes me so proud but so sad. It makes me want to go home and help. I was born in Kathmandu but moved to Brazil and Scotland growing up.
I'm Nepalese first. Ayo gurkhali.
oh yeah good brother
Salute for my brothers who is hustling for better life. Your hard labour and sacrifices will be echoed all over the world, as it has been.
I tried and failed though I trained sooo hard. I know how tough it is physically, mentally, spiritually.
The failed impact is so hurtful.
But remember You are the finest of all. The bravest of all. The good men of all.
Everyone got something wrong! They are fine men but the best are serving in the nation, Nepal army are best! Everyone here thinking technologies has rusted Gorkha..You will know when Nepal goes into war..Though Nepal is immune from military conflicts..
These men just want money and are muscles for hire..Real Gorkhas serve the Nation on minimum wages..These guys are mongol rooted but Nepal is ruled by Aryans so figure it out..
These beautiful mothers. So supportive and loving towards their young men. They are very much heroes themselves. RESPECT!
I respect this young guys, it's should be great to serve their motherland 🇳🇵🇳🇵...
They're serving Britian.....
I salute those Gurkha bravehearts who has laid down their lives to protect the integrity of India since independence.
Thank you 101 East for sharing our stories to the world.
I dont know why this channel is much better than others
One of the reasons that India won the Kargil war was because the Gurkhas were able to scale a 100 foot wall of solid ice. The Pakistanis had left this side of the mountain unguarded because they felt that no one could climb the wall of ice. Once the Gurkhas scaled the wall they were at a higher height than the Pakistanis and had the upper hand.
we are proud of our gorkhas
Yes. But now a days nepalese are become so arrogant. But gurkha army is still with India and accepts every decision of the country.

Just to watch this video is also a great thing for me.
Though i never ever been interested in becoming A army,it just felt bad to me just because the effort they are doing is phenomenal and i'm really proud of all the boys for their dedication and their hard work.
I hope you guys maintain the same energy which will be really helpful to your coming days and your coming generation.
And also it felt so good to see people who got rejected gave motivation in moving forward.
Good luck.
Wow very inspiring. So happy for those that got in and also heart broken for those that were not selected. Especially the boy who had a heart problem because that is not something he can control, otherwise I feel he would have been selected to join. His family even took lout a 10k loan to pay for his training which will take forever to pay back.
Peace and Namaste friends
Pain that will keep us motivated. Till today, whenever I feel like giving up, I recall those days.
Gives me strength.
All of them are so young. I feel bad and good at the same time. God bless them.
Me too
Met a cohort of the gurkhas in 2018 heading to the British military base in Nanyuki Kenya. Very sharp lads, definitely left a positive impression
All of them are so young. I feel bad and good at the same time as they are going to be part of this legendary brigade . God bless them.
Everyone is calling their mother❤️❤️❤️❤️
When u say u won't fear to death , either u have lied or you are a Gurkha 🙏🙏..-A great indian Gen.
To all the boys, stay strong , life’s long 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Hard , very hard . Even the selection process . Such dedication to become a Gurkha . BRAVO .
I met some of these Gurkhas when I was working for the MOD in Wales. Small, polite, ferocious with rock solid mentalities. I felt that any one of them could have easily killed me with a flick of a wrist if they've wanted to.

To my brothers of nepal, Lots of love from india.
2:35 'British passport for the whole family'. So the parents and siblings can also come to the UK? Wow, that's lifechanging 😲
Yes, they are sacrificing their life.
