    In this video and the next one I am going to show you how to set up your boat, lines, rigs, rods, etc. to troll for School Mackerel in Moreton Bay. I will also take you around the areas that I generally troll in the central area of the bay and talk about some of the areas that I know of in the Northern end, although I don’t fish them at all regularly.
    Part one covers a lot of the setup and technique. In part two the search pays off and I bag out in a very short period. Part two also covers bits of the technique that are not covered in part one.
    If you want to learn how to troll for Mackerel in Moreton Bay then I suggest you listen to all of the videos because I throw in tips throughout the video.
    I now get all my trolling boards from Mr Bait:

    The only youtube channel that goes this in-depth and straight into it. Love your work!

    Another great vid I learned a lot. Love the outrigger rod holders I will go online today and order a couple. I will also modify my board rigs to your specs I am pretty close to it but the tip about roller bearing swivels is a good one.
    I am looking forward to next weeks video to see the action.

      Thank you. In case it helps, I got my outrigger rod holders from Whitworths Marine and Leisure. These ones specifically.
      www.whitworths.com.au/stainless-steel-adjustable-removable-extension-rod-holder
      I looked at the cheaper ones but ended up getting the adjustable ones. They are handy for more than just trolling. You should be able to find some like them online.

    For some reason I have gone away from the spoons in favour of slices and fancier slugs and hard bodies over the last few years but I do not do enough of it to make a comparison. I would appreciate your comments.

      @weFishAU  Рік тому

      I haven't trolled hard bodies for School Mackerel very much myself. The few times I tried it I didn't get any hook ups on the hard bodies, although something left teeth marks in one. I suspect the hard body I was using for these attempts was too large (it was something like 10 or 12 cm). I will have to try again with something smaller to make (maybe around 7.5 cm) a fair comparison.

    Those bonitos you caught (15:58) I believe are called ‘Watson’s leaping Bonito’. They are extremely good eating. Dust it with flour and shallow fried, one of the best table fish you can catch. Thanks for sharing the video.

      @weFishAU  Рік тому

      Yes, leaping Bonito. I didn't know the Watsons part. I don't like Tuna much so I had never thought of trying Bonito since they are in the Tuna family but I will bleed one and take a filler to try next time. Thank you.

      @@weFishAU it tastes different than a regular Bonito but make sure it’s still a little pink in the middle when cooked, enjoy with chips or salad.

      FishTrax is a program I wrote. New features are added every few months. It can be downloaded from fishtrax.we-fish.com.au
      It runs on a Windows PC.

    Hey mate, always informative videos! Do you have a preferred tide for mackeral? We tried on saturday but heading into the low the water wasn't clear and only caught grinners.

    • @weFishAU
      @weFishAU  Рік тому +1

      Not really. I find I catch them on any tide with a bit of run, but not too much. If you are catching a lot of grinners then your spoon might be too far back. I am planning to talk about that in the next episode.
      I was out Friday morning. I find the thing that makes the biggest difference is not many other boats racing around and scaring them off.
      Try as soon as the sun is on the horizon, before too many others are around.

      Thank you. I got mine from Whitworths. They have shops at the Gabba and Breakfast Creek but I have seen them online and in other marine chandleries.
      I thought these adjustable ones were worth the extra:

    Hey mate, how do you go about staying out of green zones in the bar area, can you see it on any of your navs or do u just know??

    • @weFishAU
      @weFishAU  Рік тому +1

      It shows on my GPS but I also have a fair idea of where they are. If you stay inside the bar and off the shallows of the Amity Banks you are pretty right.

    It's the board size have the difference depts?

    • @weFishAU
      @weFishAU  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes. The larger the board the deeper it goes. I usually carry 5m and 8m divers on board.
