I sure hope that Teal doesn't have malaria. That bug was a big deal in Vietnam and many soldiers got bitten by mosquitos and suffered the illness. I'll pray he gets better. Linh and Emma are Teals guardian angles so I know he's in good hands. I spent 15 months and 22 days in Vietnam and never got sick. Boy was I lucky. Get well soon Teal.
Emma has such a bright disposition and great attitude!❤ I have followed you three since Seattle. And she has grown into a wonderful young woman. I hope you all feel better soon. Safe travels!
Best wished for Teals health. Kudos to Linh for her culinary wizardry. And the same for Emma for being such a great daughter. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and say safe.🙂🙂
I take two gelcaps of garlic every morning and evening. Haven’t had a mosquito bite in years. Worked for my late wife also. She got lots of bites before we started this and had very few after using it.
Get well soon Teal! There's been a Dengue outbreak in Costa Rica too...about 24,000 total so far, but mostly in the populated areas like San Jose. I'm in Drake bay right and we're not getting many mosquitoes, so I'm glad about that. 😅 Dry season was just around the corner for you guys, so I hope that helps. Stay safe!
Dengue usually occurs in with saddle-back phases. The initial feeling sick phase and often a week to four later another another bout of similar symptoms. Additionally, with as many bite as your video demonstrates, it could be a different infection from another strain of dengue or other similar disease such as zika or chikungunya. Yellow fever, but you will see the jaundice in the eye and skin then. or even Malaria - which is treatable. You should carry a few medical references like the Merck Manual, Lange's Emergency Medicine and Lange's Current Diagnosis & Treatment Family Medicine. Nurses Drug Reference can help too. Here's to a speedy recovery!
You need blood tests to rule out malaria - a stained blood smear or a PCR; there are rapid diagnostics tests that use a drop of blood on a special test card, but they still need the others for confirmation. Malaria definitely require drug therapy which differs by the species of Plasmodium infection, or may cause very severe illness. If you're not taking prophylactic medication, find a clinic and get tested.
You guys picked an interesting time of the year to hang out in the San Blas. Sail up to Colombia and hang out in Cartagena instead! Hopefully everyone is feeling better by now! 😊
Linh, you can come up with amazing delicious food items even though the pantry is low. The peanut butter dish looked great. I hope by the time this gets to you Teal is feeling much better.
Teal, I feel your pain. As a seven year old I had urinary tract surgery resulting in being fed a bowl of cherry jello, a cup of Sprite and a cup of water, three times a day for seven days, until I stopped eating all together. A terrible experience for a little kid! To make it worse, my roommate was getting regular food. All I got was the wonderful smells. After not eating for a day and a half, a cafeteria lady came in with a tray, walked past my roommate and came straight to me. Hot roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes and green beans. I thought she must have been mistaken! Heaven!!! I am now 74 years old and this is still my favorite meal😅.
Know the feeling Teal, get well soon captain! Bajos Lagoon is a far cry from our just returned trip to Las Vegas, man has that place grown, I'll take where you are any day, minus the no-see-ums!! 💙💙💙
So sorry for Captain Teals sickness. One crew member down, affects all. Say good by to that area and head for the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Come to Florida and be our guests.
Welcome to the wet season of The Atlantic side.. You said you've been there for a while, guessing July/Aug ish,, Yeah it's what we get.. Dec-May best place on the planet!! You really need a portable A/C unit for your vessel during our hurricane season. Betting that thing closes up pretty tight, so 1 should do. Might need to look at a wind gen for power too. I like the new vertical design type, but you can use the Ole fan type, they are cheap enough. Hurricane season in the Caribbean can take some getting used to.. your friends Beau & Brandy, are probably a great resource..
Thats blockbuster but with Emma and Linh in it it was a real blockblaster Teal.. you are gonna be star of the next two hour tour movie Teal so we need you on your feet at the wheel and not in a wheelchair ASAP .. take care of yourself Teal , just like i do everyday i ride my Harley and think about the next accident that wants to get me.. at least its not a bug 🪲🐛 or two and only on my face visor.. be super careful with your boat in those waters... Id be out off shore . Take care
When I grew up in the 🇵🇦 Canal Zone I was catching all kinds of colds. Guess we all did. I hardly get sick now as an adult, however mom used to make boil a chicken wing with a piece of ginger. Ginger settle the stomach. Enjoyed the beginning. Showed the last small island on the east side of Holondes Cays. Our island we would stay on. Always enjoyed San Blas.
Just went through the Panama Canal and thought of you. We were on a cruise ship and didn’t see any small boats going thru. Congrats gang. Teal likes the attention. He’ll be ok.
What I have found works for me in the fields for bugs is fabric softener sheets. Mop down my uncovered flesh with the sheets and carry one or two on me. I was flagging for the crop dusters before GPS.
Dengue fever comes from the day time mosquito's. We use the electronic swatters that look like a tennis racket. We like to have two in the house, and one on our front porch. There are four different types of Dengue, if you get one, you have immunity for it, however getting one of the others will be worse because your immune system will be working against you. Good luck, even though this was months ago 😎

That peanut butter "ice cream" looks delicious. I'd make it for this weekends dock party, but unfortunately, one person I know of has a serious peanut allergy. Guess I'll have to make it for myself...lol. Teal, whatever has you down, I know how you feel. When I moved to Las Vegas in 05, I got the flu and then turned into walking pneumonia. I was down for about a month. All I wanted to do was sleep too. Feel better soon captain! Edit: I know you use all kinds of bug repellant. If you can get some, Skin so Soft from AVON and Capt. Ron's All Natural Bug Repellant are the only two things that work for me for mosquitos, noseeums and biting flies.
Ahh the tropics. They always look great in photographs but the reality is different. Heat, humidity, torrential rain and the ever present insect population. I recently had a major bout with covid and my symptoms were very similar. Had to be transported to hospital and almost took the dirt nap due to renal failure. The doctors saved my old ass and actually got my kidneys back up and running although at reduced efficiency. GO TO THE DOCTOR.
Feel better Teal and keep hydrated (Pedialyte or Gatorade). I like Plain Congee when I'm sick @ 11:04. PS: Thermacell mosquito repellants works better than those coils.
A tiny bit of Ben Gay on mosquito bite will stop the itching. I went to Texas to visit a friend and was covered in bites, my friend sad the Ben Gay is on the table and a small dab stop the itching. WOW what a relieve. Allan
Linh, this is really serious, I know Teal is a stubborn git at times, but you have to take charge, please contact John and Eli on Barefoot Sailing Drs, they will assist u immediately. Then into the new dingy and the hospital. Don't forget he could be very contagious. Your living on a boat, so safety and concentration is paramount. I've read all the comments and everyone says the same, we all care for u all, so PLEASE get help!!!
Hope you get better Teal. It sounds like you got a different strain of Dengue. There are at least four. After you get a particular strain you can't get that one again. But, you can get one of the others, and it's more serious when you get one of the others because Dengue will trick your immune system and your immune system won't detect the second strain. You should make sure you know how to get to a healthcare provider. Because, if you have the second strain can it can get serious quickly.
I am his age and I do 2 things once I start to feel a cold or flu coming. I eat Elderberry gummies for a couple days and a mild Jalapeno seeds and all un cooked. Those 2 things chases whatever out of me. If I miss the window I then make a Hot Totti and cover myself with many blankets and a heating pad so I can sweat out any toxins. How is his stress levels been lately also. That can run a body to exhaustion and the bodies defense is no longer able to keep up. I suggest he needs a supplement like AG1 of something that will help keep his body stronger to defend against this. Immune system needs a big boost and that is why Elderberry and Jalapeno. Also sounds like his stomach health is low and apple cider vinegar could help a lot.
Hey guys, I'm not sure how far back this video is and if you're out of the woods, but Ihad a patient once who came back from that region and it took a bit of figuring out, but it was Chikungunya.. It often looks like dengue and is spread much in the same way. Tons of fluids, but as long as the fever is under 103.5 most of the time and cycling, is. Highs and low throughout the day (usually higher at night ) Fever reducing usually makes it last longer.. Fevers that cycle in this way are good. It is the bodies way of fighting things off but hydration is key especially with electrolytes. In fact @ 103 the body creates Interleuken and interferon, which are powerful parts of the immune system.
chicken and noodles soup, natures cure-all, there is just something in the mix of the broth, noodles and chicken that really works, especially when it's homemade... then switch to, and I know it's nobodies favorite but it really works too, beef liver and onions, it will help give him his strength back... this country combo has helped me get through many rough times, it should help yall...
Emma literally looks like she could be on the poster for a movie or television show in that thumbnail. Like mother like daughter. The dad, well...poor dude. That's one of the bad things about living a nomadic/vagabond lifestyle, no readily accessible hospitals often times. Hopefully he gets better soon (I know these videos are likely released weeks after they were filmed).
So true, you gotta take the good and the bad with this lifestyle. Luckily, we always have a backup plan in case things got worse. Worst case scenario, Linh and Emma can sail basik back to Shelter Bay/Fort Sherman in less than 24 hrs to the nearest hospital if the Captain's condition got really serious.
I hope that you figure out what the issue might be and that way you can avoid it in the future. It might be that your so used to living in WA that the change in weather and bugs are messing with you. I was in a bad car crash where I was rear ended hard and blacked out. People thought I was dead. For the next two weeks, all I wanted to do was sleep just like Teal.
Teal ! Get well soon. Remember this is a sailing channel. Your family needs a strong and alert Captain. So get behind that wheel, Quit feeling sorry for yourself. Remember this is your dream Adventure😂😃
i spent many days in deep woods with bugs of nearly every kind. the best thing i found that kept me bite free is product from avon called skin so soft original body lotion. i have watched tics jump off my bare leg while using this stuff. i never got to try it when i lived down south in no-see'um land but i would recommend giving it try if you have access. if nothing else it will keep the skeeters off you and the girls better than anything else i have ever used.
Thanks guys! Get well soon Teal, and like everyone in the comments, get medical help if required please! I’m not 100% sure how behind this video is, but yeah Tropical fever’s can be dangerous, you know that..
When we are in Kinabatangan River Borneo bugs, mosquitos and sand flies are our enemies, so before sunset we turn on our electric mosquito killer inside the boat and cockpit, and turn off the lights, we always choose the small river deep enough for our boat 😅
TEAL Get Better!!!! Linh you are rocking the tan. I am going Vietnamese restraint for lunch today for a "soup". It's getting cool in Tennessee.... It's not Chef Linh's great cooking but will have to do. Bug's love Linh and Emma because they are tasty. Ha ha. I swear I don't get bit. I am too sour to attract bugs, or have thick skin I guess. Ha ha.
Give him a chicken soup with a lot onion, garlic, cilantro and green onions, sweet potatoes and casaba... Also, medicine that helps with symptoms like ibuprofen, acetaminophen, no aspirin because it liquefied the blood.
Are you guys eventually headed to the islands of Colombia? I hear it doesn't rain nearly as much there, and the weather is generally much better. I hope Teal feels much better soon.
12 volt AC is a thing. But they’re twice the price of similar sized 110v units. Also need a decent lithium bank & solar. But, it’s so worth it being able to run AC overnight on batteries 😁
It does sound like Teal is exhibiting a lot of mosquito born illness symptoms. And Panama is ripe with them. However, malaria risk is generally pretty low throughout the country with only certain specific areas that are of concern. Unfortunately, I think San Blas is one of those areas. If he does have a mosquito born illness, pretty high chance it’s dengue. It has been running rampant through the Caribbean and Central America. One thing you can take solace in - the mosquitoes that you’re being bitten by while anchored out are almost certainly not any species that can transmit dengue. There are only a few species, the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, that are vectors for dengue, yellow fever, and chikengunya. And those species are entirely “domestic” mosquitoes. Meaning they live and breed in urban areas where people are. Around homes and other buildings that can provide the right standing water habitats for those species. If Teal got dengue, it was absolutely when you were ashore in a city/town. The mosquitoes you experience while out on anchor or on the uninhabited islands are a different species entirely and cannot transmit dengue. There is also a relatively new surge in a tropical disease called Oropouche which CAN be transmitted via noseeums. Like any of those tropical flaviviruses, the symptoms are all very similar and it takes a doc to know what to look and to know which tests to run in order to determine which one it might be. There is no “cure” for these. Just rest and hydration. Malaria, on the other hand, is an entirely different beast. Literally. It is a parasite and CAN be treated. SHOULD be treated. And vaccinated against. This is my profession. Here in key west, we fight the potential for ALL tropical mosquito born illnesses and are on the forefront of successfully controlling them.
I watched the last episode and now the start of this one, i use a touch of mouthwash in one of them squeeze spray bottles as a super effective mosquito repellent, it works on West Oz mosquito’s, (apparently they hate peppermint) may work there? Nothing to lose?
@@linhgobenyt well yeah, I actually spray it everywhere when we have friends around for BBQs, you definitely get a few people saying, “i think i can smell mint? 😂, but my wife Wendy normally gets attacked at cook outs, she doesn’t at ours, some people say it doesn’t work, but there is actually science behind it, apparently mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide we breathe out (most animals do) so what I’ve found scientifically speaking is that it’s not a myth, it masks our breath and also peppermint is a natural insect repellent (not necessarily mosquitoes) but it’s very plausible them as well, The fact it costs near nothing, and any old spray bottle will do, there’s no real harm in trying it? Oh I haven’t found any evidence of furniture or clothing staining, it kinda evaporates clean, i think thats the alcohol in the mouthwash.. so it’s kinda refreshing on a hot night anyway..
I hope Teal is feeling better by now considering there is a time gap between filming and posting. All the following should be verified by a doctor. ----Are you using regular potatoes for Teal's meals or the healthier yams/sweet potatoes? I would think getting some sort of protein into him will help boost his health to fight whatever is affecting him. I've had severe health issues the past couple of years and, for me, chicken and chicken soup gave the most relief. If his stomach is bothering him you could try the BRAT diet of bananas, rice, applesauce (I know acidic is hard on Teal right now but there are apples that are less acidic but those might be impossible for you to get in your area.), and toast. Baking meats instead of frying is supposed to help digest them better. Use the internet and look for an Infectious Disease specialist. I learned that from personal experience. If you can't find one try a Internist/Internal Medicine doctor they've studied longer and know a lot more about a lot of things vs a regular doctor. I had my regular doctor tell me that so I switched and the new doctor was better. Last thing. Get Teal out into daylight. The near Infrared wavelengths of light boost the mitochondria which makes the body better able to fight illness. He can be covered up, as long as he feels the heat of the sun the IR is getting through to his skin. Sunblock is ok to use.
I was a medic in Vietnam Dengue fever has a noticeable rash, it sounds to me more like Malaria, I diagnosed and treated both, he needs an RDT, Rapid Diagnostic Test to confirm. Good luck.
@@seawench555 Dengue doesn't present with diarrhea, but Malaria does, I think her comments about "stomach issues" was a reference to that. Which adds to the dehydration and fatigue.

Lynn, have you tried to get electrolytes into Teal. Find that helps with vomiting and dehydration? Always pay to carry some in the medical kits, etc sachets, powder forms, sports drinks. 😢
Yes, he was taking in electrolyte pills. We do have a good size medical kits that really comes in handy in situations like this. He is on the mend. Thanks for checking in!
Teal’s body will need nutrients and electrolytes to heal better. Lighted salted room temperature water and, believe it or not, chicken soup with, perhaps, mild veggies. Polyphenols is the key….and just a little fat. Nothing hard to digest. ☺️👍🏻
Have you been vaccinated for yellow fever?Particularly in that area , there is a highly recommended area to be vaccinated before entering for yellow fever.

chicken and noodles soup, natures cure-all, there is just something in the mix of the broth, noodles and chicken that really works, especially when it's homemade... then switch to, and I know it's nobodies favorite but it really works too, beef liver and onions, it will help give him his strength back... this country combo has helped me get through many rough times, it should help yall...
Liver and onions is good food, maybe the best food. 🙂😋
AC and screens!
Hello from Hurricane ravaged Siesta key Florida
Get well soon Teal
Deep woods Off works for me here in south Florida.
i spent many days in deep woods with bugs of nearly every kind. the best thing i found that kept me bite free is product from avon called skin so soft original body lotion. i have watched tics jump off my bare leg while using this stuff. i never got to try it when i lived down south in no-see'um land but i would recommend giving it try if you have access. if nothing else it will keep the skeeters off you and the girls better than anything else i have ever used.
skin so soft never worked for me. I wish it did since deet irritates my skin.
There's are foods you can eat to keep mosquitos from biting. Maybe try this?🤔
Get well Teal!
Ha ha.
So sorry to see Teal down for the count
Good luck
Give him a chicken soup with a lot onion, garlic, cilantro and green onions, sweet potatoes and casaba... Also, medicine that helps with symptoms like ibuprofen, acetaminophen, no aspirin because it liquefied the blood.
Are you guys eventually headed to the islands of Colombia? I hear it doesn't rain nearly as much there, and the weather is generally much better. I hope Teal feels much better soon.
All the more reason to have a good A/C system onboard.
They don't have enough electrical power to run air conditioning. They would have to run a generator.
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 So! That's a situation easily correctable.
12 volt AC is a thing. But they’re twice the price of similar sized 110v units. Also need a decent lithium bank & solar. But, it’s so worth it being able to run AC overnight on batteries 😁
Hang in there guys feel bad for teal.
My son had similar symptoms and was diagnosed as having strep throat. Easily cured with antibiotics. I hope he's feeling better soon.
If it is dengue give him some papaya leaf tea. My nephew had it in the Philippines and after we gave him that it knocked it right out of him.
Fruits and Veggies when you are sick ... if possible. More antioxidants the better.
I watched the last episode and now the start of this one, i use a touch of mouthwash in one of them squeeze spray bottles as a super effective mosquito repellent, it works on West Oz mosquito’s, (apparently they hate peppermint) may work there? Nothing to lose?
Good to know, and we'll smell minty fresh! Thanks Trev!
Is it time to consider an A/C system installation on Basic ?
They don't have enough electrical power to run air conditioning. They would have to run a generator.
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 live a-boards do have a/c system … it’s a thing.
Tea tree oil keeps the critters away...
I was a medic in Vietnam Dengue fever has a noticeable rash, it sounds to me more like Malaria, I diagnosed and treated both, he needs an RDT, Rapid Diagnostic Test to confirm. Good luck.
My thoughts exactly, I knew Dengue had a rash, so I was going with Malaria or covid, Thanks for ur Service, much Respect 🇦🇺👍
@@seawench555 Dengue doesn't present with diarrhea, but Malaria does, I think her comments about "stomach issues" was a reference to that. Which adds to the dehydration and fatigue.
Just love with faces turning sideways. Go slow all is good. Story to talk about. My father did 4 tours in with the 1st Airborne Vietnam. 327 th Tiger Force. it happens. let him rest. Love each other this isn't great but life.
Linh, I am surprised you have not gone to a shorter hair style to cope with the heat and humidity. Poor Teal ! I feel so bad for him.
I found it hard to believe that after Teal got sick the first time you guys were out walking the jungle trails ! and then you anchor in bug land ! get AWAY from the bugs God only knows what tings they carry ! we don't like seeing you guys suffer yet alone get sick . the best of luck , get the captain better and get someplace where we can watch the normal HAPPY crew .
Not to mention monkey bites!
Hate to say it, Teal is a pussy, yall do better daily. Damn sure he ain't Military stock.
When did you go through the canal? I missed it.
Get better soon.
Time for teal to have blood and full body scan to make sure nothing else is going on.
🤦🏼🤦🏼
If he or you have a rash it is Dengue
Teal's body is saying he needs to go to the ER.
Were you in an area that has malaria? You may want to have him tested.
We are taking great care of Teal and are aware of the importance of proper hydration and nutrition! 😊 Thanks for caring!
Have you been vaccinated for yellow fever?Particularly in that area , there is a highly recommended area to be vaccinated before entering for yellow fever.
