    I have a recipe for homemade natural deodorant! Mix equal parts melted coconut oil, baking soda, and arrowroot powder OR cornstarch (arrowroot is more effective), and several drops fragrance oil, then pack into dispensers when firm enough. I make this for my husband and myself and it's all we use. Bulk Apothecary sells a coconut oil that has a higher melting point of 92 degrees. Most melts at 76 degrees - if that's all you can find, just keep it in the fridge (I keep the extra there), or try adding a bit more of the dry ingredients to stiffen it up. It takes a while for your body to adjust to it, and the old deodorant to all be gone from your underarms. And ladies, to shave, just get your underarms wet any time of day. No need to soap up because they won't be sticky at all. Plus you won't have that stiffness in your shirts from commercial deodorant. Natural is way better. Merry Christmas, everyone.

      I make the baking soda version, and find it works great.
      Summer definitely requires fridge storage and a bit more of the dry ingredients.
      I found the orange oil I used created oil stains on my shirts sometimes, so that's something to be aware of might happen.
      I've seen a number of suggestions to put it on at night, instead if the morning, and that works quite well, and reduces possible clothing transfer if you wear nicer things - as opposed to "work" clothes.

    • @Mrs.Patriot
      @Mrs.Patriot 6 місяців тому

      @@lynn858Check out the 92 degree (melting point) coconut oil offered by Bulk Apothecary. I find I don't have to refrigerate it. Also, I find this deodorant washes out, whereas the store bought versions make the underarms stiff. It sometimes helps to spritz underarms with a vinegar solution before washing, if you get oil stains or that odor synthetics develop - which I find has lessened dramatically since I stopped using commercial deodorant. And wow how easy it is to shave the pits! Cheers! Merry Christmas!

    And if anyone is less than pleased with the fact that you gave them a "homemade" or up-cycled gift - feel free to give them nothing next year. :) Or, a card noting the donation (financial or homemade) to the charity of your choosing.
    Gifts should be given to whom you wish, and when you feel like giving them, and never because you "should". It's companies that profit off "should". Gift for the joy of it.
