    I must share this with you. My mother died from colon cancer at the age of 92 (13 years ago). Before she died, she was always loosing her tea towels. When she complained to me, I went home, divided my tea towels into two stacks, and gave one stack to Mom. I then bought new tea towels to replace the ones I gave to Mom. This happened three times over a year. When Mom complained to me the fourth time, I started asking questions of everyone who came into Mom's house. Mom then accused my sister-in-law of stealing her tea towels. I then questioned my sister-in-law, in Mom's kitchen, in front of Mom. My sister-in-law walked me to Mom's bedroom and opened the right hand side of Mom's wardrobe cabinet. That side of the wardrobe was almost full of folded tea towels. Why Mom was lying and hoarding tea towels, I have never known? Mom's only statement, after being caught, was, "Do you want your tea towels back?" No. I did not take my tea towels back. I'm still wondering who else was giving her tea towels. That wardrobe is huge. Cancer and drugs make people act and do strange things.

      This made my eyes water to hear your story. I am sure that she didn't mean you any harm, it could've been something more like Alzheimer's/ dementia or maybe your sister in law helped her clean and that's why she knew where they were but your mom did not? I would be so puzzled, but also a bit amused to have such a story about something like tea towels. I hope you are reminded of her beauty and love in all of your days ❤❤❤

      It was something she never felt like she had enough of at some point in her life. It is common for fatally ill people to find something to obsessabout because it gives them something else to obsess about that isn't the disease that's killing them.

    I just spotted your series in my recommendations and have been watching them today. I wanted to mention that several days ago, I was specifically searching for videos about tea towels. This video did not come up, and I notice that there's nothing in your title or description that mentions that this video is about tea towels. That's such a shame, because this is the most informative and helpful video out of all the others I watched. You discussed the types of fabrics to use more thoroughly. Great video.

      @ThoughtfulCreativity  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for letting me know and welcome! :) I hope you enjoy the video and all of the inspiration/creativity here :) About "tea towels" in the title - you are so right! Unfortunately, it is one of those things that if I put "tea towels" in the title the video probably will get next to no views, simply because people don't find tea towels exciting... at least this way I can entice them and excite them and show a prcatical side of such gift. But you're 100% right, maybe after holiday season I can rename the video and see how it does. Thank you!

      @callitags 6 місяців тому

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity I'm not entirely sure how the UA-cam search engine works, but could it be enough to put the words in the description area vs in the title? So, you wouldn't have to change your title, but it might come up if someone was doing a specific search for them, or for anything you mentioned in the video. Your information and instruction is so good. 🙂

    Oh my goodness. Your handmade plates are amazing. I miss my pottery days. I was able to sew up several dresses for Project dress a girl this year and that made me happy. I used your first pattern again this year - the A line dress. It’s just so simple to sew and cute. I’m going to try one of your other patterns next year. I’m hoping to start early and have a big bunch ready. The towels in this video are wonderful and I have made towels for people and they loved them. Can’t go wrong with these. Hope you are all well. 🥰 have a great weekend. 😊

    As always, Alyssa, you have clever ideas and simple ways to make them. There is a linen store online that sells the toweling to make it into tea towels, placemats and bath towels that I have decided I was going to make as gifts and now you have a really inspired me. And I may even just buy some striped linen. I love striped towels. Now is the time to start the sewing marathon!

    I love Earl Grey tea too! My favorite way in the summer is to cold brew it (right on my counter) with one or two bags of mint and serve it iced. To me, it doesn't need sugar, and it's so refreshing! And your towels are a great idea. Perfect for beginners to get used to their machines. Thank you so much. You really are thoughtfully creative!

      @jeanne-marie8196, I bought tape that looks like a measuring tape, but it sticks to anything. That way, I can see where my seam measurement is on both sides of my plate. I've got a brother machine that's 30 years old.

    • @jeanne-marie8196
      @jeanne-marie8196 7 місяців тому +1

      @@wendy833 Thank you for the idea. I will check JoAnnes. I have a Brother that is about 15years old, that I’ve tried once, but my Singer Genie from 1972 still works! My son uses it now. It does need a tension adjustment, though, so it’s a good thing his job makes him handy with machines! It’s hard to find a Singer tech that is familiar with it though. I’m afraid if a part breaks, a replacement part won’t be available, but until then it just keeps plugging away!

    do you ever sew a towel topper to use to hang on the stove handle?? I would love to see your take on that! Thanks, Alisa

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  8 місяців тому +1

      Patricia, hello there! I did it in the past, just don't have a tutorial on the channel, and I still use the ones I made, but I have found over the years that in my personal kitchen I prefer just regular rectangle towels, so I can use the whole towel if needed, or fold it up and etc. The towels with toppers are sure cute and hang nice on the stove handle, but I don't find them 100% functional (personally). In the ones I made I did not use interfacing for the topper part, so after the first wash they looked a bit wrinkly, but every wash after it looked fine. And then for the closure I used velcro, which does wear out a bit over the years, especially with my little one liking to close it and open it, close and open again :) so maybe a snap or a button would be better. I hope this helps!

      Patricia, Notches Sewing channel has a number of different designs of hanging towel tutorials. Here's a link to N. Jefferson who has a good tutorial for a hanging towel dress. ua-cam.com/video/9lEOFfhxAE0/v-deo.htmlsi=UOETpxhrSAW2-RRG
      I agree with Alisha that sometimes I want to use the whole towel. But for all the times I wash my hands and the towel falls off the oven handle, "some day" I will make some that stay. My mother sewed for my two sisters and me over many years. When I was probably a toddler she made us a fancy dress with a black velveteen bodice and a white skirt, each slightly different. I am 64 and bought 2 pieces of black novelty fabric has one sister's music tslent and the other sister's art talent. I found black and white towels to use for the skirt. I think my sisters will appreciate the honor to our mom for those dresses and all she made us.

    I was stitching something on my machine and when I reached a bulky seam, my sewing machine got stuck. I had to take apart the bobbin section just to untangle the nest of thread. I put it back together and the just tried several times to stitch a straight seam on even thin cotton 1 or 2 layers thick, my machine no longer works. It seems to sew several inches straight ahead but then it stops dead and there is a rats nest of thread jammed on the bottom side. I've tried taking apart the bobbin area, putting it back, putting in a new bobbin and retreading my machine and even changing my spool but I no longer sews properly, just makes a mess. Can you think of anything I can do??? I have a inexpensive Burnette with the bobbin in the bottom of the machine unlike the new more expensive machines where you drop in the bobbin from the top
