Lancia Thesis and a Nokia - rare combination, one to tick off on the bucket list for Mickey - being well-spoken should never be confused with being well mannered nor educated, which the subject in this case clearly demonstrates.
Keep up the good work. My 16 yr old son was knocked off his bike again last night by a driver not paying attention, broken collarbone was the result. Driver didn't even stop until a witness chased him down!
I suspect it's that people fundamentally do what they think is somehow justifiable. It's why speaking to phone using drivers has no effect as they don't believe they're doing anything wrong and will therefore keep on doing it. So the only option is report and they get a NIP. Hopefully at that point the penny drops that actually it's not okay.
It's everyone's business if it's illegal and a danger so I can't criticise what mikey is doing and if everyone knew some of his reasons for being so passionate about this then they'd understand and not give him stick - the law applies to everyone without fear or favour !!
There are also so many people who think its ok to use your phone if your sat stationary in traffic which of course its not as your still classed as driving
Maybe there should be lifesize cardboard cutout figures of Mikey every couple of hundred yards in this area with a notice "Lookout, there's a Mikey about" 😁
Sadly it seems that some people will never learn even after getting caught! I think the penalties are far too lenient these idiots need an instant 1 year ban maybe just maybe then they would learn!! Im tired of hearing all the excuses im not moving etc etc etc just put your bloody phone away!!! Keep up the great work mikey 👍
People are so addicted to their phones and car driving. London has the best choice of public transport in the UK yet these people decide to pay to sit in traffic. They then fall onto their habit of seeing what their phones says. They know the law but believe they won't be caught and many seem to think the risk of their distraction is low. They are so wrong. Really appreciate Mikey and others doing what they do. There needs to be some hard hitting public awareness initiative to drive the message home.
I doubt very much they decide to pay to sit in traffic, what a silly statement! What London needs to do is work out why these people are using their cars as they sure as hell can't want to be doing this or most of them can't anyway. I think the answer will simply be that the 'great public transport' is not so great after all. The cycling infrastructure is woeful too. Horrible city frankly!
The law needs to change when it comes to driving and using a mobile phone, because in its present form it clearly is not working and the penalty points and fines need to be increased. At the moment it is not deterring drivers at all. Well done Mikey.
To be honest, the new laws don't seem to have made any real difference as every time I'm out in my car for more than a few minutes I see someone holding a phone to their ear or obviously texting or fiddling with it on their laps. The penalties need to include a mandatory 3 or 6 month ban for the first offence and doubling for a second offence with a complete ban for a third offence plus a hefty increasing fine.
Oblivious to the destruction and life changing consequences of what an accident whilst driving and using a phone does to people. And they don't seem to care. Shameful.
It’s so obvious when people are on their phones, the gaps they leave, the eyes down and to the left, then there is the lane control. My phone goes into the charger and stays there until i park up its not difficult.
This suggests that either the risk of being caught is too low or the penalties are too lenient. One of them needs to change and I suggest that elevated penalties are the more effective way to go with more publicity of the consequences of this rule-breaking.
I don't think it's as black and white as option 1 or 2... it's more situational and nuanced: people have been carrying out all sorts of activities while driving for many decades. The actual risk to others caused by eating, talking, using your satnav, radio, a phone, smoking, dealing with screaming kids etc is all situational and depends on things like the speed, type of vehicle, how busy the streets are etc etc. Do you think the law is the only way to tackle this behaviour? Are the drivers being caught in these videos really the most serious or risky examples of distracted behaviour?
What these drivers will NEVER realise is that, if they knock someone down, a pedestrian, cyclist, or, biker, not only will it effect the innocent party, it is an event that will stay with THEM for the rest of their days. There is no way on earth that anyone can calculate the number of lives you have saved, the injuries you have saved people from as a result of what you do. I have found myself being more aware of myself as a cyclist and more aware of what is going on around me thanks to you. You are an inspiration Mikey. #BeSafeBeSeen
If they can't behave properly on their own, when they know the law, they are the kind of 'friends' that would steal your money if you left it out visible in your house.
I'm a long-time computer nerd, but I lack that two handed phone technique :D Just how important is all that communication that it can't wait ? A great many of them are clearly able to cycle and could therefore get to their destination and better communication devices more quickly - or perhaps they would learn to enjoy the ride... or they could do what I do and stop in the park ...
Well done Mikey, that barrel of fish seems infinite. I'm wondering if you've started putting your videos of people caught under the new phone law yet, as there doesn't seem to be dates when these offences took place? Maybe you could include dates in your comments so we know when they were taken please. Keep up the excellent work and stay safe😊
Well done Mikey! 👍 I can only suggest the current penalties for using a phone whilst driving are not a sufficient deterrent. Nice to see you 'catch' both left and right hand drive cars without bias! 🙂
Just a thought - these are videos from mostly 2021, when the "loopholes" were in place, so when the videos since March 2022 start to come through will there be a 100% conviction rate with every driver behind the wheel even touching the phone gets the points and fine? Makes your "job" easier!?
It staggers me, Mikey, that you recognise number plates from a previous catch. Out of the thousands that you've recorded and reported, I do not know how you remember them. Amazing

Thanks for educating these dangerous individuals and stay safe Mikey
But the majority of these idiots aren’t actually using their device as such thus the hands free option is irrelevant. Most that I see are “playing” with their phones….simply tapping and scrolling without actually looking at any information. They are as addicted to their phone just as a drug addict is addicted to their heroin. I really believe that the situation is that bad.

Why aren't the Police employing someone to do this? Before anyone jumps to the conclusion I am whining because this has happened to me, it hasn't. I just find it amazing that the Police are happy for Mikey to do this, putting himself in danger of being assaulted.
