I'm a huge Splatoon fan, but I think it's cool that the elevation of the terrain changes as the foam builds up. I haven't seen a mechanic like that since the game Fracture for PS3. That was a great, underappreciated game!
I also agree that it is pretty cool, but the execution makes it hard to see things, and there are so many things you can do for the concept and it feels so lazy that they just copy and paste the weapons from splatoon

The funny thing is that the biggest difference between this game and Splatoon is that the Foam actually makes different terrain styles when used, which could make for an interesting strategy. Everything else is basically Splatoon, Ninjala, and other "ripoffs". XD
The maps also seem to be a bit flatter, which means that it's up to the players to create high ground themselves. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't seem the characters can swim (surf) up walls.

Both games have insanely different aesthetics (Splatoon being more hyper maximalist while foam stars seems to follow a more colorful cyberpunk aesthetic.) My only real critique is that the color choices for the foam need to be changed a bit, both being light colors makes the game less easy to read and adds to the visual clutter. I’d recommend a light paired with a dark to add more contrast, other than that this looks pretty cool!

Nailed it, for how chaotic Splatoon can get, the game remains amazingly readable, and a big part of that is how the vibrant ink colours standout from the base colours of the maps, even amidst a large team fight, and opens new pathways around the map without altering the terrain. The constantly shifting terrain and lighter hues of the foam set against a bright neonpunk aesthetic is going to make readability in the middle of a fight absolutely nightmarish.
Yeah, I just took a screenshot of this video and a screenshot of Splatoon, and desaturated both. Even in grayscale you can easily tell the colors apart in Splatoon, but with Foamstars it all becomes the same shade of light grey. Whoops~
Hope this ends up having a colour blind mode; as it is, the two teams' colours both being light makes it far kinda difficult to tell them apart, compared to Splatoon where they pair one light and one dark shade. Watch the gameplay portion of this trailer and then a Splatoon match both in greyscale and you'll see what I mean.

Its the same what happened with overpriced dlc, and look what happened. We normalise and accept things we shouldnt. If a big company gets away with it. What prevents another company like lets say EA from blatantly stealing from an indie dev. Taking said game and idea and selling it to you. It will hurt the indie dev and the big company gets to take the credit. Its the same whats happening with AI. So wake up

Also I don't think Nintendo owns the concept of bubbles All those comparisons are very surface level at best. Those duel weilded guns dont' seem to work at all like duelies in splatoon. Gatling guns, missiles, grenades, automatic guns, duel weilded guns all exited far before splatoon and are quite common in shooter games. All these clone armugments I'm seeing are like watching people say Tekken is ripping off street fighter. As a Splatoon player, I'm very disappointed in the Nintendo/Spaltoon community
@@17Haru17 Splatoon lets you do that too. One of the sub weapons is the Ink Wall which is a piece of temporary cover, and maps have ink sponges that get bigger when you shoot, granting vertically and cover.

I hope Sony players enjoy this. It's sometimes difficult to explain the appeal of Splatoon to a non-tendo fan, and it seems like this game will go a fair way showing how the colourful gameplay/concept can be a lot of fun. My bias says it doesn't look quite as sleek/inspired as its inspiration, but I'm sure there will be enough new ideas to make it stand out/interesting.
I really like the "cheap barbie action figure aesthetic" they've got going here. I mean that in the nicest way, I love the attention to detail. The eyes painted directly on the face, the thick plastic fabric that's always under tension, the visible stitching, the large metal eyelets with thick ribbons, the gloves that are just sorta molded directly on the hands, the tiny hands on a huge grip, the oversized trigger on the gun, and the high scale roughness on the textures.
I mean, a million versions of the same game have been made in the FPS genre. This at least seems to have some mechanics that differentiate it from Splatoon. And it's certainly different aesthetically. Softer, less gloss. I dig it.
Ok i think (as long as it doesnt go nuts with monetization) this will last longer than what people with believe. They took the the core of Splatoon, but gave it its own vibe. Plus there are different mechanics that add to fun with the layering effect and the fact that the foam does behave differently in general to the ink. This could definitely be fun

Punk aesthetic? What punk aesthetic? There is no aesthetic to this, just generic UwU glamour that is so commonly found in Korean F2P games. And besides the foam being slightly interesting gameplay wise, the weapons and specials almost look like they have been lifted straight out of Splatoon. And with Square Enix's absolutely terrible track record on live service games with predatory monetisation and short life spans, I have doubts this is going to be a game worth investing time into. Would be cool if Splatoon had more competition, but this probably ain't it.

Nintendo innovate, then others copy. It's been happening since they started making videogames. Almost every single time they make anything that's popular. I mean... right now there's this- *BLATANTLY* copying Splatoon, and Sony's "Not Switch/Wii U". It's kinda hilariously obvious, to be honest.
This looks very colorful and fun and has a vibe similar to Splatoon except with soap bubbles instead of ink/paint. Short of any questionable decisions mid development or bad press, I see potential.
Why is there so much hate? Genres are a thing?? It's obviously inspired by Splatoon, but it's got it's own aesthetic and it looks like the gameplay will be different (more open levels, but you create height/ platforms using foam, which sounds closer to Fortnite tbh). Considering Splatoon's a platform exclusive, it's not like there isn't room in the market for more map-controlling shooters (unless it's just Nintendo fans downvoting this, but like... why? Why be so eager to hate things?).
For me it's less that it's similar to splatoon, more that it's made by square enix. Meaning it will probably cost $70 w/ microtransactions, and the servers will be shut down in a year.

The fact Sony is calling this game, and this is an actual quote from Sony's blog, "a fresh new take on the shooter genre" is despicable. Fresh? New take? I guess Nintendo, or any gaming company, just doesn't exist in their world that they think a shameless ripoff is original and brand new. All those comparisons are very surface level at best. Those duel weilded guns dont' seem to work at all like duelies in splatoon. Gatling guns, missiles, grenades, automatic guns, duel weilded guns all exited far before splatoon and are quite common in shooter games.
All these clone armugments I'm seeing are like watching people say Tekken is ripping off street fighter. As a Splatoon player, I'm very disappointed in the Nintendo/Spaltoon community

@@17Haru17 Splatoon lets you do that too. One of the sub weapons is the Ink Wall which is a piece of temporary cover, and maps have ink sponges that get bigger when you shoot, granting vertically and cover.

I hope Sony players enjoy this. It's sometimes difficult to explain the appeal of Splatoon to a non-tendo fan, and it seems like this game will go a fair way showing how the colourful gameplay/concept can be a lot of fun. My bias says it doesn't look quite as sleek/inspired as its inspiration, but I'm sure there will be enough new ideas to make it stand out/interesting.

I really like the "cheap barbie action figure aesthetic" they've got going here. I mean that in the nicest way, I love the attention to detail.
The eyes painted directly on the face, the thick plastic fabric that's always under tension, the visible stitching, the large metal eyelets with thick ribbons, the gloves that are just sorta molded directly on the hands, the tiny hands on a huge grip, the oversized trigger on the gun, and the high scale roughness on the textures.

Genres are a thing?? It's obviously inspired by Splatoon, but it's got it's own aesthetic and it looks like the gameplay will be different (more open levels, but you create height/ platforms using foam, which sounds closer to Fortnite tbh). Considering Splatoon's a platform exclusive, it's not like there isn't room in the market for more map-controlling shooters (unless it's just Nintendo fans downvoting this, but like... why? Why be so eager to hate things?).
They copied almost every special in Splatoon & squid form with surfing on foam
For me it's less that it's similar to splatoon, more that it's made by square enix. Meaning it will probably cost $70 w/ microtransactions, and the servers will be shut down in a year.
