@@ChasingPerfection Not really. Roots blower design does not make increase in pressure. It just moves air and cannot compres/supercharge air. Basic design limit in Roots compared to real supercharger like Eaton that do internal compression.
Also, Detroit 2 stroke with Roots blower is still ( SAE designation) referred as NA ( naturally aspirated). This shows you there is no supercharging going on. 2 stroke diesel needs blower just to work.

That's why a backhoe, in a tight budget would be great. But again, getting one in perfect working condition at low prices, isn't easy.
The 2 stroke Diesels definitely won't run without the blower. They don't work like small 2 stoke engines in dirt bikes, there is no air on the bottom side of the piston. So when the piston gets to the bottom of the stroke and uncovers the intake ports there is nothing to push the air into the cylinder. So there needs to be an air pump to push the air in. That's where the scavenge pump or what you would call the supercharger comes in. The 8-71 blowers are actually called that because Detroit's are 71 cubic inch per cylinder. So 8-71 is for 8 cylinders and a large enough pump to work for that engine. It wasn't until later hot rodders took them and retrofitted them to gas motors to use as superchargers.
Could be wrong, but supercharger on diesel two stroke is mainly to force air exchange in cylinder, since there is no extra air pumping stroke. Cheers still love your videos and would love to work for you! 🤘
