    Thank you for posting this. I've added a new storage compartment and rod box to my aluminum river fishing boat. I'll use the self etching primer prior to painting.

    @anariaq Actually having it open the other direction would be much nicer, but this is an ambient submarine so it's sort of backwards to a normal 1ATM submarine. Consider the force on the top hatch when a bottom hatch is open while underwater. It's a 25 cubic foot air bubble that want to go up, and that top hatch has to take the force of about 650 pounds.

    So, let me get this straight, you are building a steel junk rigged boat and a submarine at the same time. Can you do a video on the vitamins you take?
    am enjoying your videos, thanks for sharing.

    You dont have to put 3 coats 1 is good it can be see through you are just etching the metal and you dont have to sand the etch paint rite over it unless you let it sit more than 24 hours then hit it with a scotch brite i do this everyday for a liveing

      @@lowboytrucker depends. If its aluminum you should always use etch primer. 1 coat is enough. Not 3 coats like in the video.

    painting an aluminum boat there.... I used self etching primer on BARE ALUMINUM and then automobile primer on top of the self etching..... both are Rustoleum products.... Can I just add paint over that or did I just screw it up with the automobile primer?

    @mrhulot101 -- It's actually not a bad deal. I get to make all the mistakes on the boat we plan to sink and do a better job on the one we plan to live on. :) And the answer is not vitamins, it's no TV.

    I am restoring an aluminium bicycle frame, after its polished should it be finished with a coat of Laquer to protect it, or could it be left just as it is. thanks

    • @SVSeeker
      @SVSeeker  10 років тому

      Sorry, but I've never tried polishing or keeping a polish on aluminum, but I'd think maintaining an airtight clean coat would be necessary to prevent gray aluminum oxide from forming on the surface.

    Always, use a face mask when spraying anything. Unless you like getting those chemicals in you lungs.

  • @SVSeeker

    My guess is that your aluminum window is power coated. And if you want that same paint treatment, then the window must be removed. But at that point, I think I'd install a new window.

    I'm really not trying to be harsh but you're Indirectly saying 1:43 this is your first time using this type of primer? It doesn't give me and perhaps other people lots of confidence. How are the results one or two years from now? That's the problem, you simply don't know. The majority of your videos are helpful, focus more on your experience.

    • @SVSeeker

      Wow! Well done. To what depth are you able to go? I should have read a few other posts prior to posting myself, but time being the enemy and all....I would have thought however, that welding for that purpose would need to be of a specific requirement - and carried out by a coded welder.

    The test you were trying wasn't a real test and would have been more like abrasion resistance not bond strength. If one wanted to know the adhesion bond strength you would test per ASTM-D 3359 Method A. The manufacture will have the target performance numbers for the test above. Regards.
