    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
    Welcome to Video 3 of the Project Wilson Series. Painting a Jon Boat has not always been easy. It took a lot of trial and error to make it this far, and having a paint guy in the group helps tremendously. There is a complete playlist available on this project on my channel. This Jon Boat to bass boat conversion started off with some new paint. First we sanded down the boat using 220grit sandpaper then 320. Frankie from Piedmont Custom Fab did some aluminum welding on the holes that were in the boat. Chris from ATF Hydrographics sprayed the One Hit Wonder Paint on the Jon Boat. This video goes into depth on the paint prep process as well as the actual paint job itself. Thank you to TBNation or Tiny Boat Nation.

    Before you buy 3 quarts of paint compare prices vs a gallon. I'm a 30 plus year professional house painter. My guess that it is nearly the same cost to get a gallon as it is 3 qts

    how did you determine the "reference line" for the side rails? measurement from the bottom of the boat?

    Do u have to clear it ? I have seen a few he has done . I am interested but don't have to have to clear it. How long is this stuff lasting ? If it has been proven to last then I would do clear but seems like alot of work compared to other boat paints

    So, with drilling the holes through the side of the boat and then riveting the side rails to the I side, any issue with water coming in through the rivets? Sorry, I've never worked with rivets before

    • @fireantfishing
      @fireantfishing  3 роки тому +2

      Great question! No simply bc they are above the waterline. There is a chance they will allow a little water in but it wouldn't be for long

      @@fireantfishing thank you for taking time to reply. Am planning my project now, and it's difficult for me to plan. Older model Lund WC14, not exactly flat in the bottom, subfloor is going to be way higher than I'd like in order to be flat/level, I'm sure I'll have several more general questions like these!

    Is this considered a riveted jon boat or a welded jon boat? Because I see rivets holding the ribs in under the water line?

    Use treated wood on bunkers.

  • @MisoJuice
    @MisoJuice 2 роки тому +1

    Why do you need to countersink the rivets? Don’t they come with a flat head anyway?

    • @fireantfishing
      @fireantfishing  2 роки тому

      Standard rivets have a head with a 1/16” (about) rise to them. When you lay something on top, this can be seen or raise a specific area, depending on what your doing
