The following video will contain spoilers for The Last of Us. Be warned. More than anything, The Last of Us is a story of trust and survival. Its world, one already split at the seams, spilling the rules and superficiality of its previous society onto the moss-ridden streets, is one that beckons for its inhabitants to build trust, break trust, break each other... in order to survive. The world has fallen into anarchy, and two survivors, through unfortunate circumstances, a surplus in this world, are forced to form an unbreakable bond, at the cost of everyone else. As a game, The Last of Us marks the beginning of a trend, where cinematics and immersion is conflated with tedium, but these road bumps don’t prevent a return to the game being as easy as it gets.
But I don’t need to explain what The Last of Us is. Its popularity eclipses itself. Last of Us fans might be deadlier than a clicker, and its detractors might be more detestable than the bandits that roam the streets, but the extremity of both sides alludes to a brain rot poetically similar to the threat the characters face. This won’t be an argument for the hailing of the game, nor will it be a call for its director's head. It will be a reflection. An interpretation. Nothing more. If I were a foolish man, I’d ask that the comments stay civil, but I know better now. With a game such as this, I’d avoid it, entirely.
The Last of Us is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Players control Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States. The Last of Us is played from a third-person perspective. Players use firearms and improvised weapons and can use stealth to defend against hostile humans and cannibalistic creatures infected by a mutated fungus. In the online multiplayer mode, up to eight players engage in cooperative and competitive gameplay.
Development of The Last of Us began in 2009, soon after the release of Naughty Dog's previous game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. For the first time in the company's history, Naughty Dog split into two teams; while one team developed Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, the other half developed The Last of Us. The relationship between Joel and Ellie became the focus, with all other elements developed around it. Actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson portrayed Joel and Ellie, respectively, through voice and motion capture, and assisted creative director Neil Druckmann with the development of the characters and story. The original score was composed and performed by Gustavo Santaolalla.
The Last of Us is a game that spoke to me, but the villain of The Last of Us was what moved me the most. Despite how the character is represented in The Last of Us Part 2, Joel in The Last of Us Part 1 is the bad guy. this The Last of Us review will explain this, but overall, this The Last of Us critique will analyse the entire game. This The Last of Us analysis is the first part of a The Last of Us retrospective, which will include TLOU2 and analyse The Last of Us story, The Last of Us gameplay, and, when released, it will encompass The Last of Us Part 3. On television, The Last of Us explained many of the plot points in this game, but the story of The Last of Us Season 1 and The Last of Us season 2 has makes changes that make them in a league of their own. This The Last of Us walkthrough will not mention the long lost but loved The Last of Us factions gamemode. - Ігри
If you're getting a sense of deja vu it's because this is a reupload. I explained why in a recent community post. Thanks for everything
Watching again for the algorithm

@@ThatBoyAqua praise be the Machine God!
I like the semi-surreal dream look of the original more. This remake is ok. But let’s be real, they should have remastered the factions multiplayer mode and added coop with split screen to the campaign. Would have been awesome to play as Ellie and Joel at the same time or have to have a 1v1 duel where one player is Ellie and the other is David. Fun game for sure. Glad to see people still play.
I literally came to make this comment when you did it for me 😂. YT sucks with showing community posts
The gameplay can be repetitive but what makes the game special is the story and Joel and Ellie’s character development.
That and honestly every single character is written somewhat well enough to just feel like a real person who wants something, not to mention the dialog isn't completely cheesy to where it takes you out of it.
honestly I don't think the gameplay in tlou is very repetitive. each area has so many different ways u can go about it, and it feels like a unique encounter each time imo.
It's only felt like 5 years but that's because they keep releasing it.
It doesn't really make sense why. The only positive I can see from the remake is the accessibility. It can now be played with many more people with disabilities.
Not to mention motion aiming is just better to aim with
@@teneesh3376 Because
A.) They planned on a PC release, and the "Remastered" version would have had to have been rebuilt since it was just a "cheap fix" from the PS3 version to get it working on PS4, which means no directX support and would have been EVEN MORE of a pain to get it running on PC
and
B.) They could get anyone with a PS5 version that never played the original, which there was quite a few, or even the people who just wanted to replay the story with the new graphics and incredible animations once the show took of like it did.
I'm not saying it's "A great thing" that it got the remake treatment since the Remastered version already looked great, but I don't hate it either since it did add a few things and it did make it easier to port it to PC....it's one of those moments where you're looking at a new phone/computer/etc and you see one you like for $500, but if you put in that extra bit of time to get the money for the $650 one, it'll run much better in the long run. They figured they could spend the money remaking the assets and redoing the animations for that tiny bit of extra money in order to fully utilize the PS5 and it'll just be easier to port it onto PC from there.
The original remaster was released a year after launch, it only exists because the PS4 isn’t backwards compatible with PS3. A remake after 9 years isn’t that unusual.
@@ethanshackleton true. But the last of us is like the last game that needs a remake. And it shows with the very minimal changes. Except for the accessibility options. That is a top notch improvement on all boards
@teneesh3376 because it looks gorgeous and the gameplay is sooo much better. it's also because naughty dog won't have a game out for a good while, so they need to make smaller scale stuff just to keep up the rep. either way, the remake was absolutely needed imo. the original is just so clunky and unfun to play
The Last of Us will always be an important part of my life, managing to get it in PS3 Days, through its unique fun multiplayer, I met the best gaming friend one could ask for, and proceeded to game with for 12 years now, like a brother to me.
This video came out the day I needed it. I was literally studying to the Last of Us soundtrack the day you uploaded this and I was feeling such a surge of nostalgia and the deepest urge to relive it, and that's what your videos do Aqua. Your videos let me relive my childhood favourites. Thank you.
Very good video! I’m honesty really happy that you gave a unique perspective for the game, and didn’t sound like a broken record.
I love the Last of Us as a game and as a story. I personally come back to it from time to time for the gameplay because of the intensity and stakes of it’s combat and stealth. And I’m excited to play Part 2, even if it’s controversial and most people hate the narrative-I’m mainly exited to see how it plays differently. I’ve seen gameplay and it honestly looks quite fun
It’ll always be my favourite game of all time. A timeless masterpiece.
Tlou2 has at least as many encounters as part 1 and the RNG is incredibly varied. Replay value is huge. The mechanics are super rich and playing on grounded is a very enjoyable challenge.
Replay value is absolutely butchered by the hour long flashback walking sections.
Too bad the story stinks
Finally been waiting to watch and now it’s here!! Never disappoints🙌
Wow you remade your last of us review.
A true fan.
Damn I really missed the opportunity to call it a remaster instead of a reupload
@@ThatBoyAqua Smh
This game has the best soundtrack i ever heard
Its sooo calm in a way
Yet it fits the style of "hey wee are in this together ,you are more imprtant but i will protect you"
It fits the duagterless father turn into father like figure
It fits the game too well
Its not fast pace
Its not sluggish
Its not cringe
It just fits the style
Thank you for the reupload!
Literally just finished this masterpiece of a game today coincidentally
So this is a welcome surprise
Same for me. Finished it this afternoon so this is perfect timing for this episode to come out. A little repetitive and not as action heavy as I expected, but still enjoyed playing it very much.
One of my all time favorite games being covered by one of my favorite youtubers. Where's the popcorn!
What made this game special for me is, not just the story but what’s not in the story. Every one you fight, team up with, hell even the infected are all just trying to survive and thrive. The cities and town you see tell so many stories (weather it’s notes or just atmosphere) that I wish you could actually see them play out. Like before the show, I remember thinking it would be cool to see Bill and Frank explained more. When at the university finding the notes from students who probably passed away long ago writing about being stuck at the university and miss their families. And really if you think about it those same students are probably the infected that you fight. This game also just has a way of pulling your heart strings. I love it so much I even bought the ps5 upgrades because even though the games looks good before and I’ve played both front to back multiple times. It still feels so fresh every time I play it.
Replaying this to platinum at the moment 👌🏻
Nah genuinely thanks so much for the jumpscare counter I feel like I can acc watch this in a dark room without shitting myself in anticipation
The last of us part 2 is my favorite game of all time, no other game has left such an impact on me, looking forward to your opinion on that rollercoaster.
My fav game ever
I dont get any notifications for your new videos since about the last 3,4 videos. Even though I got the bell & all. Strange.
For Joel's decision and lie to Ellie while I can see him be the villian of the story, even though Joel took away Ellie's choice, Marlene and the FireFlies also took away her choice her as well. Since the FireFlies found Ellie unconscious from almost being drowned they now have an opportunity to do the operation without having the moral dilemma of having Ellie the agency. Like with your thought of Ellie saying no the FireFlies couldn't live with themselves to have Ellie have that choice and couldn't take the chance if Ellie saying no, also having the FireFlies being so needlessly antagonistic to Joel, the FireFlies aren't any different from F.E.D.R.A, the hunters of Pittsburgh, and the Cannibals of winter. I'd argue that if Ellie did have the choice, Joel would've begrudgingly accept her decision (while I could be wrong I also like to hear other people's opinion of the Saint Mary hospital).
Part 2 is a top 5 game for me personally. I love the first one but man, Part 2 is just that much more special and fun and enthralling
Part 2 is a masterpiece on every single aspect. Naysayers don't know what theyre talking about. Part 2 had some fucking balls and I appreciate it for that. It also features one of the scariest set pieces I have ever played in the nearly 30 years I have been playing video games.
The Revenge twist made it feel so real. They went away from the zombie stuff which is the best thing about the part 2. They are still there but you never actually think about apocalypse all that much during part 2.
i feel like they intentionally did it so some people wouldn't like it 💀 the levels of cruelty also were so necessary in the part 2.
@@getampt22 the naysayers are mad because they felt what the devs intended them to feel while experiencing the game. its honestly ok to not like the game but to curse out the devs for doing a good job and not making a fairytale ending to cater to them is just childish. its a game for emotionally mature adults. you're supposed to feel horrible, angry and lost while playing tlou2.
As someone who has Played tons of different types of games. I played TLOU for what it was.
I enjoyed it (besides the unnecessary forced walking segments), it's a good game with very beautiful scenery. (my favorite being chapter 3 on the way to Bill's place, that sunset gets me everytime, love it.) But imo it's definitely not some groundbreaking, game changer people claim it to be. Highly overpraised game.
Love your channel Aqua ❤️.
It was def a groundbreaking game in the context of when it came out.. the entire industry chases its formula for like 10 years
@@mattmas6628 No one but Sony is chasing the formula of The Last of Us; out of that console generation, Dark Souls had a much greater impact on the industry.
I feel the story is a master class of life imitating art. It can be at the same time argued that through out the game, Joel finds a reason to become a human again, but at the same time I understand the arguments that he also became a villain. I personally think he became a villain the second Sarah died, and Ellie is the only salvation he has, which is why he wouldn't want to lose her at any cost.
whats the background music at 5:25 called?
the last of us was my and is my favorite game i love other games but its just this game works different than others. and i dont really know why
1:55 joel jumpscare
neat
Watched the full video did not even realize it was a re upload lol. Maybe I missed it the first time?
For some reason, after premiering the last one a few weeks ago, it wasn’t shown to any subscribers. Very odd
@@ThatBoyAqua either way good stuff! I really agree with the Joel stuff how he did take away Ellie’s choice but I do still feel like in a gamer mindset I’d always save her no matter the circumstances. They just build the relationship too good to not save her
dont worry, they will re re re relase it next year in the remaster of the remake.
Not putting TLOU I in your top 10 is craaaazy
The thing that i wished this game had was an animetion hwere if you are in a infected area
Clearly overgrown by the fungus then i wouldve liked joel or ellie to have ab animetion hwere they frantically look around
Like the sixth sense kind of thing but its overloading
Becuae as we see in these games is that enemies do come out of the walls in infected areas
So i kinda wish ellie and joel couldve had that samll animetion to add immersion
It’s like Halo 2 meets Halo 3
Thanks for disclaimer
Currently I'm watching last of us tv series and you didn't spoil me
The last of us will always hold a special place in my heart and remains one of the most replayed games for me. The heart and soul of the story still make me feel the same as it did 11 years ago. It's a shame there's only one game, but with how the story ends, there's no need for a sequel.
Witcher 3 when aqua?
My boy skipped puberty. That damn voice 😮
The last of us part 1 is my favourite game of all time, the sequel is arguably better though. Two masterpieces nonetheless.
last of us 2 video is gonna be 2 hours +
3:10
I'm hoping that end tease means the Part 2 video is 5 hours. It probably won't be, though. You've rarely done a video over an hour long for a single game, so a 5 hour video is out of the question.
But I wouldn't mind 1.5-2 hours.
I have bad news, it’s about half an hour lol
@@ThatBoyAqua Less than 5 hours, but not bad news. I love longer videos.
Edit: Upon actually reading the reply... It is bad news. Oh, well. Your videos are still good.
11:33 sorry but no. Unpredictable stealth is not good for stealth games. It's fine for more action oriented games. But half the point of those stealth games is predictable AI behavior and pathing you can learn and abuse. Also, do you think you maybe would've had to do the boring easy starting segments fewer times if enemies that you didn't expect to be there, because it's basically random, didn't surprise you? Just a thought.
In this instance, redoing earlier segments is fun like I said cause it’s always changing. In a game like this, where we have an ability that shows players where enemies are and in a game where enemies always react differently but within reason, I’d say it’s a ton of fun.
Cool
In My Opinion: I think TLOU Part 1 is the BEST GAME EVER MADE!!(On the PC) Even Better than Half-Life 2(I'll Get Burned at the Stake for Heresy) However, i recently Upgraded my Main Gaming PC with the following: upgraded the CPU from a Ryzen 5 5600X to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, GPU from an RX6600XT(8Gigs of VRAM) to an RX7600XT(16 Gigs of VRAM) & Upgraded the Memory from 16 to 32 Gigs of Ram now TLOU Part 1 Crashes all the Time???
I've never touched TLoU2 and never will. If letting the main protagonist die isn't worse enough they decided to go full Woke.
bruh no offense but this feels like a highscool essay xD
i'm an avid advocate for gameplay over story, i 100%'ed every FromSoft and RE game and i hate that Naughty Dog is always praised by the gaming community for literally making interactive movies, especially after "playing" Uncharted 4... yeah i get it, it's technically impressive but it's incredibly boring to me. But for some reason i enjoyed The Last Of Us despite its issues, i enjoyed the brutal and realistic combat, and the Shifting dynamics between Joel and Ellie was entertaining throughout the whole game. but overall, Naughty Dog still suck lol.
Nah what’s happening to bros views 😢
Think UA-cam hates me right now but you can help by sharing the video 🙏
I’m you sent this like 8 mins ago I didn’t know you would respond I posted on my snap story then sent it to some people ima let it replay
ngl the combat sucks but it isn’t the point
Not playing a sequel to a game you love to avoid participating in a controversy is wild. But oh - you’ll do it if there’s a monetised video in it for you? (Especially since there’s a wealth of opinions you can watch and regurgitate). No
Overrated and responsible for the rise of the cinematic experience, which is terrible for gaming
I think The Last Of Us has a compelling yet derivative story with extremely basic gameplay. The fact that its a video game does nothing to elevate the material AT ALL. If anything it detracts form the story and its pacing. I'm glad its been adapted into another medium where it can really shine. I kinda hate it as a game honestly.
After completing The Last of Us, I found the game to be overrated and not nearly as good as I was lead to believe.
What did you think of the second?
@@ThatBoyAqua I haven't played the second game. I'm only on PC so I will play it if Part 2 comes to PC.
