Yes! Practice is so important! I learned how to hand letter pretty consistently way faster than I thought I would! TIP!!: I kept one brush pen and scraps of paper in my purse, so at restaurants or on a bus or in a cab or something I would just pull it out and do some practicing on my paper scraps or a napkin (or these awesome lettering worksheets :) instead of browsing on my phone. This helped SO much and made practicing a lot easier to find time for!
Thank you! I can’t wait to start learning. I have made a mark and signed it! 😄 thanks for making helpful pages available. I am on a fixed income and the ability to get them without cost is so helpful! Thank you again! I am not a creative writer YET. 😉
I’m not a beginner anymore but this is the best beginner video I’ve ever seen and helps me a lot with teaching others hand lettering! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. I’ve always wanted to learn calligraphy and your tutorial helps me out a lot. With practice , I am confident I will get the hang of this. You are a great instructor
Hello Suzie, I just really want to thank you for not only covering every possible situation when it comes to ‘hand-lettering’, but your videos definitely land on a positive note. Do you know how embarrassed I was to ask my first Calligraphy teacher the differences between the THICK and thin parts of a letter? Listening to your voice ever so politely explain it, then show it, then reminding the viewer (me:-) all your little tricks and experiences on how to never forget it, was deeply impressive. I look forward to downloading & printing out all your helpful worksheets. There’s no doubt, without a great teacher one will only learn marginally. But to learn from a passionate instructor spreads confidence to produce the very best! ~Elizabeth
Yes!!!! I can finally say I'm soooo excited to start what I've tried to start many times. What was so difficult before, was that I couldn't find a UA-cam channel with someone so inviting to teach, until I found your channel. You are such a kind voiced person willing to patiently teach and help with your free printables. Thank you so much sweetie, God bless you. Can I ask where do I get those specific pens or similar ones?
Thank you so much for taking time to leave such a kind comment! I truly appreciate it! These pens are the Pentel Touch brush pens in the mature colors. They were hard to find when I got them (they hadn't released in the US yet) so I had to buy them from Tokyo Pen Shop, but they may be easier to find other places depending on what country you're in. Hope that helps!
I've been starting to learn calligraphy and your channel has helped me so much! Thank you for doing these videos, I've also been learning cursive for the first time so your videos are helping me get better!
A few months ago, I jumped into stamping & card making. I am eager to add to that craft, being able to do some of my own lettering & after viewing a couple of your VERY HELPFUL videos with supply suggestions & practice sheets, I feel way more comfortable getting started, so a HUGE thanks for sharing from your experience. MUCH APPRECIATED !!
Omg I loved the video! You talked calmly and slow and made it so easy to understand. I also love how you show us the stokes on paper and the Diagrams of hand lettering!!❤️
Hello friends . These are my tips and tricks other than Suzie's . I've been watching and learning from her for 2 yrs and now I can probably say I know how to letter . Well make sure you practice much and much of drills ad a beginner + try to avoid large and super flexible brush pens like camlins being Indian I'VE less access to colour varietes and bought them but trust me instead of buying that you must buy tombow fudenosuke or a small brush pen if u are heavy handed like me. Also we know that crayola markers are mostly preffered but is very very expensive like 2000 INR so you should find its alternative of INR 150 luxur carioca birello dual tips on Amazon . I'D have them and can't stop practicing with those pens try avoiding a lot of stationery and focus . Also follow Suzie and some other good youtubers and know the tips and tricks to find your own style rest I suggest to be a perseverant . Be good , do good and have good .
I started with the Camlins, (on a trip to see our family in India) and although they’re a bit big and flexible, they’re perfect if you like a challenge. I make good lettering with them now, 11 months later. I have a pack of Tombow Dual Brush Pens as well, and though they’re better in a couple categories, there’s really not that much difference between the two. If you already bought the Camlins, just know that they will work well, you just need to figure out the upstrokes and you’re good. (Just one thing, make sure to use them on smooth paper. If you can’t find marker paper, look for tracing paper, the clear/translucent kind. Normal printer paper is too rough, so you nibs will get frayed. However, tracing paper is pretty smooth, so it’ll be great. Just put on any white surface so you can see clearly, and start lettering!)
I just got the dual brush pens today and printed of some practice papers and I’m so excited to learn! I was having problems figuring out the angle to write and how to get the down stroke and basically writing with it at a really down angle if that makes sense..
I am so glad I stumbled upon this video. As a beginner who has tried multiple times to attempt this and continually failed. I am glad I have stuck to it, thanks to you. A very very helpful video. Also wondering, what lettering materials you're using in this video? Paper and pen? Please and thank you 😊
Hello. I have few questions to ask you as a beginner in hand lettering. For a beginner which is best to use, a dot grid notebook or lined one or plain one?.Second question is that is sakura pigma brush markers better or sakura koi ones?
Thank you so much! I'd say I most often buy on amazon unless there's something I can't find there. I have also ordered from Tokyo Pen Shop and Paper & Ink Arts. Thanks for watching!
I only have CNA and PNA shops (thats what its called ) but i think i will get off amazon cuz it looks really nice ...can u also do a vid like with procreate (its an app where u can wright )
I’ve bought so many Lettering classes and workshops and downloads and printables etc. they all have the strokes and lettering practice. But I have yet to find one that teaches me how to make each letter by breaking each letter down. Does your class go form A to Z and teach each letter and break each one down by steps both capital and lower case? I don’t want to do waste more money on another class if it’s gonna be the same. Also I’ve been told haha it doesn’t matter how neat my handwriting is, I will still be able to calligraphy well. Not sure if this is true. My writing sucks and it’s so sloppy. I can’t seem to get better at calligraphy. Mine doesn’t look like anyone’s. It’s so ugly. So it’s it true that some folks just can’t letter? Thanks
It’s also important to know you will feel these new muscles when you practice. Don’t be surprised if they get sore in the beginning.
Yes, that was totally the case for me! Thanks for watching!

Maybe you just have to practice a little more. Maybe trace? To get the muscles familiar ?
Is this demonstration called: hand lettering or calligraphy? What is the proper name.
are you guys printers or what?
I'm sorry I'm not totally sure what you mean, I'm just one person though and this is my handwriting! :) Thanks for watching!
