It's amazing how different the mechanics are when dealing with such a ridiculous amount of weight. Obviously it could just be his personal strengths/weaknesses, but his speed off the chest is insane, whereas his sticking point in the groove is about 2 inches below lockout.
His ass was absolutely off the bench on the 3rd attempt, and it wasn't paused, but he gave it a good ride. It's nice to see Spoto and Sarychev both in the 700 pound range in competition. Can't wait to see which one of them breaks the record next.
This is exactly the kind of setback that will motivate him to become one of the strongest pressers of all time by the time he's done. Stay encouraged and keep lifting heavy!!
After missing the first one Eric zoned out, the third one was his best attempt. Eric is so focused right now!!!!!! never seen him this fired up, the next meet we decide on he will take whatever the current record at that time is.
5:52 Where is the lift signal from the Center Ref? You can't just get the handoff and go...you have to show control of the weight. ...and my god that wasn't even a pause! Don't get me wrong Eric is a massively strong guy but just because a guy is going for a world record you can't bend the rules. This is why lame duck federations like this one destroyed the sport of powerlifting. Eric is probably one of 5 guys that ever competed that can legit raw bench 300+ kg. Spoto, Siamand Rahman, Kaz, Big Jim Williams and Kirill.
i don't care if he didn't get it.. he's the best bencher ever... and i know , every1 knows that he will get it soon ! very2 soon ! keep up the awesome work big mammoth eric !
+grgaafq fesfa I get that, but what is the point of smelling salts? is it so horribly offensive it catapults you into barbaric rage and amps your strength?
Time to break out the boards. He almost had that last one. And his feet were slipping around during and after he unracked it. Hopefully he uses this as a learning experience as far as psychology, preparation, and training. Can't wait to see him break the record.
EVERYONE has their bad day, this just happened to be Erics. I dont think anyone doubts that he will destroy the 715 WR at some stage in the near future. Damn though I thought he had the 3rd lift, loved the passion from the head spotter, brilliant!
Seems like the nerves got to him. I'd imagine it's tough as fuck to go from being a gym lifter to jumping on stage to open with a WR. Most of us can't comprehend that kind of pressure.
The thing I like most about this guy is the fact he actually touches his chest, not his stomach. I hate it when the larger guys just use their bellies.
That doesn't make any sense at all - he was blasting up 675 in the warm-up room, like he could have gotten at least five reps with it, but couldn't do 716 during the actual meet??????
There's no camera angle here that shows whether his ass actually off the bench. Just that his hips move. There's really no point in speculating what the judges would have called.
It kills me seeing those three attempts. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he can break that record. It's all good though; now that the butterflies are out, I'm positive he'll break it next time. No doubt.
depressing watching how fast it comes off his chest. im sure hes training the fuck out of his lockout right now, hopefully. well atleast hes got these nerves out now, next meet he'll kill it.
If his hips were moving enough that some people were wondering if his ass stayed on the bench, he definitely had leg drive. I agree he will break it soon though.
Almost no leg drive; those attempts were all arms. Plus his feet were sliding all around and were never stable. Getting 716 just shy of lockout, press command or not, with arms only is incredible. Plus he's got meet under his belt now which is one less thing for him to worry about. In a matter of months he will demolish this record easily.
It was just a bad day. He'll get it. We all have our off days. It's funny though because I watched this live I was still hoping he would break it during this video. lol
Also when they all start yelling for him to get it up for the last few inches it kind of weakens you a little cause that happens to me...just saying. Atleast that's the way it seems.
Such a legend.

4:12 wow Dan Green, Spoto and Efferding (maybe) within two seconds of each other? What a meet
George Leeman also walking behind
and Vince Urbank passing them.
BadBlueBoyZG86 and is it alberto nunez filming on the left? lol
Amazing footage Jim, felt like I was actually there + backstage video too!.. Hope theres more like this!
Favorite bench presser of all time.
Thanks for this video man.

Antarctic Vortex There's no start command in this federation.
Seriously!!!? Wow!
Antarctic Vortex It's more than 5, but I get your point.
This guy never grinds, always explosive, even when he fails a lift. Fucking beast.
What did Stan end up totaling in this meet? Did he beat his last total?
Who is the tall guy recording Spoto? I've seen him before in other videos.
i don't care if he didn't get it.. he's the best bencher ever... and i know , every1 knows that he will get it soon ! very2 soon ! keep up the awesome work big mammoth eric !
When will Eric compete again??
serious question: What size shirt is that lol
what does he always sniff before he benches?
Jacob JacobJacob smelling salts
+grgaafq fesfa I get that, but what is the point of smelling salts? is it so horribly offensive it catapults you into barbaric rage and amps your strength?
From what i understand yes.
+ThunderhorsE1213 it gives you a slight edge. Helps to get you into the zone, but its no barbaric rage.
Does he squat or deadlift because his total would be fucking outrageous
he was in a motorcycle crash when he was younger. So a big squat is not likely.
Jon Jones no he is a bench press specialist. Adding lower body weight would just add to his total weight and bring up his weight class.
Ben, Spoto was a shw so weightclass doesn't have anything to do with it.
Time to break out the boards. He almost had that last one. And his feet were slipping around during and after he unracked it. Hopefully he uses this as a learning experience as far as psychology, preparation, and training. Can't wait to see him break the record.
That last attempt had me off my seat yelling "GO GO GO"
What t-shirt Spoto is using?
And to think, he absolutely smashed this and more since this mee
That last one! Lots of power out of the bottom but just couldn't finish it!
EVERYONE has their bad day, this just happened to be Erics. I dont think anyone doubts that he will destroy the 715 WR at some stage in the near future. Damn though I thought he had the 3rd lift, loved the passion from the head spotter, brilliant!
Is eric spoto human.....fuckin amazing

He was slipping against the floor on his third attempt, you can see his feet moving out of place
When Spoto breaks the 750 barrier he's going to look back at this failure and realize that this failure is what got him to 750.
''You should probably get excited''
The thing I like most about this guy is the fact he actually touches his chest, not his stomach. I hate it when the larger guys just use their bellies.

gotta work more of full ROM and get that lockout next time
Third rep was definitely more than half locked out.
There's no camera angle here that shows whether his ass actually off the bench. Just that his hips move. There's really no point in speculating what the judges would have called.
It looks like they did this event in an old folk’s bingo hall.
That had dumbbells in it? really?
he pretty much had that third attempt.. dam that was close
I think it was the horrible music that caused him to miss the lifts.
touch n goooooooooooo GOOO GOOO GOOOOOO
fucking amazing. great work.
It kills me seeing those three attempts. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he can break that record. It's all good though; now that the butterflies are out, I'm positive he'll break it next time. No doubt.
It makes me nervous that I will fail.
plenty of strength just needs to adress lockout and i think it might have just been first meet jitters just my opinion
He'll get it next meet.
depressing watching how fast it comes off his chest. im sure hes training the fuck out of his lockout right now, hopefully. well atleast hes got these nerves out now, next meet he'll kill it.

when he missed the first one it got to him mentally...he'll get it next time..i think the first one wouldve gotten up if he didnt lose it forward.
If he was locked out, there would have been a rack command.
Very wise.

5:07 did he say shut up? lol
Almost
seems like Eric forgot the belt on his first attempt :/
beast !
Caleb Ralston
Monster!!! Soooooo fn close
Also when they all start yelling for him to get it up for the last few inches it kind of weakens you a little cause that happens to me...just saying. Atleast that's the way it seems.
Cant believe he missed the 3rd attempt, it looked easy! He will get it soon though.
Team STEED = St(an) + (Cr)eed?
Weakens you? People yelling and cheering me on pump me the fuck up lol
so fucking close!
That is his plan.
@steveninthe If Eric would've made the lift my rankings would've gone up lol
Ammonia
The price of being a badass right here :/
I dont care on that 3rd attempt that was close enough in my mind he got it.
Fully agree! People will bitch one way or another because that's all they know. I say give Mendy his respect and leave it at that.
shit almost man
Powerlifters are the last real men.
@blooddogg3d True dat, Scott is still the king....but not for long.
SCOTT is still the king!
mark bell lookin damn lean lol
all the keyboard experts chiming in on his form lol. any lifter can see his nerves got the best of him, thats it.
mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
are these dudes on the roids
Not raw w that shirt and wrist wraps!!
He's not wearing a bench shirt. Wrist wraps are still raw
