    Only complaint about all Mark and Jim's videos is that they keep me up till 3 in the morning completely unable to stop watching. Awesome vids, awesome lifters and awesome tips. Just wish there were more gyms like this in Australia.

    Hi Jim, I think that the reason that a lot of people don't like knee wraps being used in "raw" competition is because rather than being a subtle addition that does a lot to prevent injury (like a belt), the knee wraps are being wrapped very tight in a fashion that adds weight to your total. The "raw" concept, although new, would seem to imply that no "primarily weight adding" gear is used. Knee sleeves, however, are mostly for keeping knees warm and injury free. Just my two cents.

    Crazy video, I can't wait to see where pete goes with his lifting career. One thing to point out though is that the depth on a couple of those squats didn't look parallel. Not taking anything away from these guys but I just call what I see.

  • @Reilloc13
    @Reilloc13 11 років тому

    Knee wraps and weight belt are protective. They don't allow you to lift more weight, they just let you lift higher amounts of weight safely (without injuring back, blowing out knees, etc.) Non raw would be wearing some kind of assist giving clothing, such as a squat suit or bench shirt (which allow you to 'slingshot' the weight due to their elastic construction).

      Nope, as long as your hip crease goes below parallel, you can come up any way you want. You don't get credit for form. All that matters is that it comes back up from depth.

    Oh I know why people say what they say, but anyone who doesn't think a belt is assistive has never used one with a true max weight. The knee wrap vs knee sleeve issue is more about splitting hairs than it is anything else. Think of it this way, if people didn't think they perform better when they use belts, knee sleeves, etc., would they use them?

    People I earnestly ask you guys, please give me advice on the following respectively: 1) how to cut down from 295 lbs (29% bf) to a better weight without losing muscle mass and power ( I am down to do anything but all natural for now)
    2) what can I do to improve my bench's balance and keep my butt on the bench while I'm benching?
    3) my squat and deads are great thanks to god and still improving to Dan's or Stan's level :). Tell me some upcoming meets please that I can compete in. I am drug free! I live in LA, California. I really appreciate the help.

  • @TheJimMcD3SB

    Well, you're right about one thing...you're no powerlifter. There are different definitions of raw in different federations but every one of them allows a belt and some kind of knee protection or another...either knee wraps or knee sleeves. Using briefs, a squat suit or a bench shirt is never considered raw.

    • @jasonharrison729
      @jasonharrison729 6 років тому

      Jim McDonald Raw for all intents and purposes to most people in the world means no belt no wraps mate. That's what the abdominals & tendons / ligaments are for. PowerLifting is a great sport.....

  • @warjostrongman
    @warjostrongman 12 років тому

    Judging from the video and the numbers posted didnt Green open with 788, gut it out and then miss 793 twice? The vid says his opener was 755 and that he missed it which doesnt look to be the case. it looks like he gutted out 788 for his opener then wisely made a small jump and missed it twice. the ways its labeled makes it look like he missed 788 then jumped to 793 which would be like when paul jorden when against pacifico in 76

  • @TheBdt100

  • @mikeyburger1
    @mikeyburger1 11 років тому

    I'm pretty sure the collars are 2.5 kg here, so the bar must be 30 kg... I know that there are definately 25k bars, but never heard of a 30 kg one :S

      Yes and the rhino did it raw mr. Coleman used a squat suit, wraps with his deadlift and no one gives a shit about how much he leg pressed.

    • @atgassassin8806
      @atgassassin8806 10 років тому

      Screw leg presses. Anybody can lift heavy on a leg press. There's a guy at my gym who can barely bench 185 and he can't even get it down to his chest. He lives off cheat reps. Anyway he goes over to leg press and puts six 45s on each side and presses with no probs. He can barely squat 135 for 3 reps and he doesn't hit parallel. Point is anybody can go heavy on leg press.
