BACKGROUND
Countdown is the channel’s longest running show and the first show ever broadcast on Channel 4 when it launched 40 years ago, in November 1982. The original version of Channel 4's Countdown is the French television programme « Des chiffres et des lettres » (literally "numbers and letters"), where the Numbers Round is referred to as « Le compte est bon » ("the total is right"). The show debuted in 1965 as « Le mot le plus long » using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. This year marks the shows 51st anniversary.

SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.

Wow Richard Osman is on Countdown 🎉.
It's completely slipstone!
How can you not find 918??
All of the numbers rounds were incredibly easy.
Must be fatigue I suppose.
If he had added the other 5 too, he would have been even closer
396:
75 + 10 + 9 + 5 = 99
99 * 4 = 396
75 - 9 = 66
10 - 4 = 6
66 * 6 = 396
75 + 4 = 79
79 * 5 = 395
395 + 10 - 9 = 396
The last one I thought was the easiest, and a couple the guys got easily I struggled with! Funny how numbers and your brain work
Looking at the conundrum I was like hmmmm is this even jumbled and just a British spelling of glaucoma? All while my first thought was hmm that’s close to guacamole but not actually thinking that was the answer.
1. (100+6)x7=742
2. LNAFP: (5x8+4)x9=396 or 5x8x10-4=396
3. 5x10x10-6=494
4. (7-5)x50+2=101x9
One of rare conundrum I could solve. They even didn't change the first and the last letters
I always overcomplicate these number rounds
918:
50 * 2 = 100
100 + 7 - 5 = 102
102 * 9 = 918
50 + 8 - 7 = 51
51 * 9 * 2 = 918
50 * 9 = 450
450 + 5 = 455
455 * 2 = 910
910 + 8 = 918
396=5x10x8-4
918=(50+8-7)x(9x2)
8 x 10 = 80
80 x 5 = 400
(400 - 4 = 396)
742=7×(100+6)
100 + 6 = 106
106 x 7 = 742
100+5 = 500-7 = 493X6 = 2,958+10 = 2,968÷4 = 742
100+4 = 104X5 = 520X10 = 5,200-6 = 5,194÷7 = 742
10X8 = 80 75X4 = 300-80 = 220X9 = 1,980÷5 = 396
75-9 = 66 8+4 = 12X5 = 60X66 = 3,960÷10 = 396
10X5 = 50X10 = 500-6 = 494
10+7 = 17X5 = 85X6 = 510-6 = 504-10 = 494
8-7 = 1+50 = 51X9 = 459X2 = 918
7-5 = 2+2+50 = 54 9+8 = 17X54 = 918
All they had to do is 8-7 instead of 8+7 and add that onto the 50 for 51 BEFORE multiplying by 18.. :(
Oh I was hoping for a 6 small challenge but to no avail...
10 x 10 x 5 = 500
500 - 6 = 494
494=5×10×10-6
How to use 494=2×13×19?
918=9×(2×50+7-5)
918=(9+8)×(50+7-5+2)
I did (50+8-7)x(9x2)
918=2×9×(50+8-7)
396=4×(75+10+9+5)
wrong
@@jarvisrein9318 Thanks.
right
742:
100 + 6 = 106
106 * 7 = 742
7 * 6 = 42
10 * 4 = 40
100 + 40 = 140
140 * 5 = 700
700 + 42 = 742
100 - 6 = 94
7 + 5 - 4 = 8
94 * 8 = 752
752 - 10 = 742
9×2=18
8-7=1
(50+1)×18=918
742: 7*100 is 700. 5+4 is 9. As per Douglas Adams, what do you get if you multiply six by nine? 42. And add it on.
Umm, 6 by 9 is 54...
@@wanmoke and what's 42 in a base 13 number system?
The comment is a direct quote from Hitchhikers Guide, fyi ;)
@wanmoke This is how you know there is something fundamentally wrong with the Universe.
Conundrum is Guacamole
It was at the top of comments!

shut up
I have a solution for the 1st one 7X100=700 4X10=40 +700=740 two away
2*9*(50+8-7)=918
