Wow mad props and what a class act Hamill is. He could feel threatened by someone else's Joker but instead takes the time to praise it. That there, ladies and gentlemen, is a class act and a man confident in his work.
You guys are a little harsh on the guy. I mean cmon, I know it's youtube but fuck. have some compassion. The guy was obviously very nervous. Any one of you could of messed up just like he did. Standing in front of 200+ people AND Mark Hamil, a legend in the business, isn't exactly the easiest of feats.
but he really couldn't have done worse. No one's knocking him for being nervous or fucking up, it's how badly he fucked up that people are making fun of and rightfully so. Bitch.
Ledger's why so serious: *Creepy and, Terrorizing Hanill's: Comic book style Both are legends until Joaquin Phoenix joins them... And then Jare- you know what never mind...
Among fans, there tends to be a lot of "competition" or argumentation about why someone is better than someone else. In contrast, I really loved seeing Hamill show such respect for Ledger. I, personally, found both to be tremendous, iconic performances, and I prefer to avoid arguments about who is "better".
Asking that question was very brave as the room could’ve turned on him, real hard but the minute Mark actually did “why so serious” I lost it! so good! so iconic!
omg something just hit me, it would be so hilarious and awesome at the same time if we would like get all the jokers that have been done, sitting at a table and then swap stories, in some parallel universe xD
The way Mark answered that tasteless question (considering how recent Heath's death was at that point) was SO warm, reverent and full of respect. A decent and professional man, Mr Hamill is. :)
What a classy guy and great performer?! Just gives the people what they want on the spot, that's true showmanship. Thoughtful stuff about Ledger as well. Mark Hamill just became a little cooler in my mind, which I didn't think was possible.
I wonder ehat kind of roled Mr Hamill would have taken had he not sustained an injury. It's weird that he couldn't even find roles that had few physical specifications or didn't require good looks. He's a very good actor. It's just so sad he's not in more movies.
This man, such a gold heart, such love for his fans and we love him as much. Not many people become such an iconic figure. He never imposes, always wants to know about how we find his plays, and if people knew how hard he tried to save Star Wars from the pool of shit they were headed. Should have listen to the only one Luke Skywalker, a wise master indeed. Thanks to him, the force is with us forever.
+Shiv Ashish Paul and with all the makeup and special effects now he might even look like the one from the old animated series (which is still one of the best things that was ever on TV)
Wow, the best animated Joker saying the lines of the best live-action Joker is something that I never thought was needed but was definitely deserved. RIP Heath Ledger, the GOAT Joker of live-action Batman films, and Kevin Conroy, the GOAT of animated Batman and the entire DCAU
As much as I love Ledger, I am gonna call him out on the whole "original take" on the Joker because something struck me as familiar about it although I couldn't immediately place it at the time, I am really surprised no one else saw the similarity (or at least no one commented on it, if they had): I thought the rendition was highly reminiscent of the 1994 movie The Crow as played by Brandon Lee before he died. Even the LOOK of the Joker seems to be a technicolor-ized version of the Brandon Lee character .,... Anyone else see the similarity? I think Mark's Joker is more unique. I remember being SHOCKED that it was Luke Skywalker voicing him when I found out many years after the series was long gone.
Well I always felt his look was that of Brandon Lee's Crow, but his laugh was actually similar to Cesar Romero's Joker laugh. The 60s Batman comes on IFC all the time now and I was watching some of the episodes and Romero's laugh struck me as to how much Ledger sounded like him. Now the way Ledger acted was very original.
UpRoaryus he means original interpretation of joker not that the entire character is original every actor, screen writer, or director takes from others in some small way. Cinema and books have been around for so fucking long that it is nearly impossible to be trully original anymore because what ever can be imagined has mostly likely already be done. The take on the joker is what he meant by original because every joker since then has been more comedic or campy.
It never ceases to make me laugh listening to the dude struggle to say what could’ve been much simpler: “Would you please do a line from The Dark Knight with your Joker voice?”

He’s been best joker voice and his laugh
I've always loved his ability to just switch into the voice at will, it's like he can just flip a switch
Besides, he's speaking to the Motherfucking Joker.
but he really couldn't have done worse. No one's knocking him for being nervous or fucking up, it's how badly he fucked up that people are making fun of and rightfully so. Bitch.
Hugo Stiglitz go sit in the corner boy. Your mommy is so dissapointed in you
Ledger's why so serious: *Creepy and, Terrorizing
Hanill's: Comic book style
Both are legends until Joaquin Phoenix joins them... And then Jare- you know what never mind...
*Hamill
Raziq Daniel Oh my bad. I accidentally typed Hanil
Cameron Monaghan also deserves to be on the list too!!!
IMO Heath Ledger's Joker is superior to all the rest as far as on screen performances go but Mark Hamill's Joker voice is the best ever!.
I wanna hear some Jack Nicholson lines. Yes Heath is amazing but we can’t forget about Jack. “THIS TOWN NEEDS AN ENEMA”
Nah, “you ever dance with the devil in a pale moon light.”
Favorite line.
That gave me chills. Mark Hamill will always be my original and favorite joker.
Now if only I could hear him say it instead of the crowd yelling.
+Kristofer Murphy
And people didn't like him being casted before this film and he never saw his glory.
He just lived it ;)
There's already a video demonstrating that, a short animation however. Just search "Joker vs Joker debate".
It's crazy to think that he was both Joker and Luke Skywalker. What a legend!
Mark was also others like Skips from Regular Show, Mr Block from Milo Murphy's Law, the Hobgoblin, and of course the Trickster
I'd like to hear him do the "Wanna know how I got these scars?" lines.
I want that Mark Hamill's "Why So Serious?" as my text alert.
I was hoping for him to say "you wanna know how I got these scars!"
Love how he calls the joker voice old comic book but he invented the joker voice.
I love this guy
hearing joker cussing is honestly as scary as batman laughing
close your eyes in the end and you can imagine Joker singing that song to you with knife in his hand. Happy Birthday you son of a bitch
1:47 a great example of a nerdgasm. "YES....YESSS....YESS!!!"
The actual video starts at 1:39
I thought it started at 0:00 but thanks bro
+John Ramirez Me too😂😂
tnx
U da real mvp
My guy needs to have his question ready
The way Mark answered that tasteless question (considering how recent Heath's death was at that point) was SO warm, reverent and full of respect.
A decent and professional man, Mr Hamill is. :)
...it was 3 years since his death...
The guy asking the questions...bless his heart!
Dude is the hero and the villain in so many peoples life. Star Wars and Batman have both touched millions of life’s. So has Mark Hamill
1:40 “Why so serious?”
That line makes me think of Raise Your Glass by Pink....
I'd love to hear him say "Never rub another Man's rhubarb" in his Joker voice.
I wanted to hear him say," you wanna know how i got these scars?" But this is great too!
Up at 2am watching almost decade old videos and trying not to wake my family. I choked trying not to burst out laughing at the end.
1:40 at this point a bunch of nerds just started spazzing
Someone make Hamill read the phonebook from A to Z in his joker voice.
***** His voice would give out while still reading the Aa section..
DEATHBYFLYINGCDS I want him to do a sat nav
This dude could NOT get his question out
i love his appreciation for heath!!!
it will be so fucking cool if mark hamil plays a live action joker
He has the voice.. not the face.
+Shiv Ashish Paul jack Nicholson didn't have the face either
Jason Pressley well that's true. they did a real good job with makeup tho
+Shiv Ashish Paul and with all the makeup and special effects now he might even look like the one from the old animated series (which is still one of the best things that was ever on TV)
Jason Pressley Oh man that would be the fucking amazeballs
Mark Hamill is the man. He's so unpretentious and down to earth
Yeah that's why I wasn't too on board with Ledgers Joker. Not that I hated the Crow, just reminded me too much of him.
With a bit of Malcolm McDowell from "A Clockwork Orange" thrown in.
Mac Spoon Romero set the standard for Joker laugh, every actor who wore the white mask, green hair, and red lips followed that laugh.
Joker: "Owww...Never start with the head. The suspect can get fuzzy and wont feel anything".
Batman: ..[Crush his hand]..
Joker: "See..?"
We need more Mark Hamil in our lives please. He is literally a national treasure by this point.
YESSSS!!!! Totally agree!!!
It never ceases to make me laugh listening to the dude struggle to say what could’ve been much simpler: “Would you please do a line from The Dark Knight with your Joker voice?”
I saw the Dark Knight 3 times in the theaters just to see Heaths performance as the Joker.
RIP
1:33 Mark Hamill's "Why so serious?" version.
Heaths Joker is arguably the best in cinema, but Matt Hamil is my favourite Joker voice. Especially in the Arkham Games. Beautifully done.
This dude got 2 GOAT roles being Joker and Skywalker lol
