The one that you're calling a spike is actually a drill bit for a pneumatic drill for drilling into rock.
Absolutely a rock drill!
Star drill, is what most call it. Ya hit it with a hammer, turn it a bit and hit it again. Rinse and repeat a few hundred times, and you have a hole in a rock or concrete.
i might have told this story, while layed off - covid, i replaced some wall's in the barn. behind wood was news paper from 1920's. cool beans. love old stuff.
Isn't that just the greatest feeling when you find that!
I think all the good stuff is in the basement Mrs K!
BOOO!😲 LOL
I love creepy fieldstone wall and dirt floor basements! I grew up in an old Farmhouse with one. It scared the crap out of me as a kid but not now! 😉
That old newspaper behind the wall is pretty cool. Cool video and explore.
yeah we found stuff like that in another rehab house that we did, really cool to see old papers.
Thank God for people like you folks. Being able to reuse or re sell those items. My parents were mega hoarders they would take that house down nail by nail, save everything and do nothing with it. But it gave them great joy knowing nothing was thrown away.
Well, we'll do the best we can with selling and giving away. Then after that it will be recycled or in the dumpster. Thank you for joining us, appreciate it!
I'd love to take that house down nail by nail. Oak wall studs and wall, floor and ceiling tongue and groove. That's whats been keeping it up so long. But that would be a gazillion nails to pull...second thought.
But I do plan on using what I do salvage from it. 🙂
Nothing I like better than picking. That Spike looks like a stone chisel to me, those interior doors are cross and Bible doors, they're worth salvaging. And don't mind the vulture he's just warming up. Waiting for the thermals.
Somebody else mentioned that about the chisel. I knew I'd seen one before, just couldn't remember then. I know of at least 3 more doors coming home! Joe doesn't yet...shhhh....
I love that kind of stuff too but my favorite treasure to find is old stoves
lol I think most of Mrs. K's 'treasures' could find their way into my 'recycling pile!' LOL
The spike is a star drill. Use a medium hammer, and after every blow with the hammer, rotate the drill just a small bit where you’re drilling to drill in concrete or stone.
Thanks! A lot of people in the area used to work in coal mines. Wonder if thats where its from?
It’s mainly for drilling limestone. We used smaller ones at the telephone company to mount boxes onto stone or concrete. Coal can be very soft most of the time.
@@charlestravis9798 I would imagine that using any type of ferrous metal tools would be prohibited to use in a coal mine where flammable gases or other flammable material would create an explosion or fire due to a spark being created.
That star bit goes into a jack hammer. Mainly the electric ones used in demo/ for smaller jobs.
Mrs. Kapper: rusty old hinges excite me!
I have a whole pile joe doesn't know about at home. Shhhhh...🤫
You can buy brand new hinges from the hardware store and make them look like antiques. 😀
Nice finds Mrs. K! Too bad that the railing post broke, but a good restoration project for you to repair it. :-)
Lol, yes. I didn't think he was going to kick it! But that's why they make wood glue.
Mrs. Kapper fun video as always !
I try to make work fun! 🥳
Hi Mrs. K The railroad rail is actually steel, and hi quality at that. Used as poor mans anvil since getting real good anvils are expensive. That property has little gems all over the place.
She forgot to tell me about the RR steel! I need a poor mans anvil!!! Next time I'll make her show me where it is!! :)
@@kapperoutdoors If I remember the video correctly, it was 3 ft long against a tree with a 4ft piece curved at one end.
Already have it on his welding table waiting for him! 😉 what would he do without me...🙂
It looks like you found a treasure trove. Happy Thanksgiving. 🍗💖
We found something alright!😀 A little late but hope your holiday was great!
Tons of stuff to look through
I believe the item you referred to as a spike is actually a bit used for putting holes in rock. It would either be hit with a big hammer or some were used in drills. The bit would be struck with a hammer then the guy holding it would rotate it and strike it again. This would be repeated til the desired depth.
That's where I've seen that before! A lot of people around here used to work in the coal mines before they shut down. Thanks for the intel!
Yep a rock drill.
@@ewing21139. it's called a Star Drill
I like all the treasures you’ve found so far but don’t stop keep on digging to see what else you may find
Well it won't be much longer and the dumpsters will start coming in! The digging takes a lot of energy especially if you're not finding much any more, thanks.
Hey Mrs. Kapper...That Singer 301 in the cabinet is worth $300. to $500. I know I am in the sewing machine business & was the guy that wanted to meet when I was in Paducah KY.
I'll see if I can pull it out in one piece and take a look at it.
Good information
Cool old house
Thanks! Would love to have seen it right after it was built. Bet it was gorgeous for it's time.
Great content Kapper...hopefully those mobile homes are $$ road worthy ....if not figure on about 4-5 dumpsters each at about $600 each plus your labor....
Well, we'll see how it goes! I don't think that everything has to be gone but we'll see in time. Thanks
those mobile home chassis is a good source of bridge material if left intact so that minimal assembly would be needed after being brought to the bridge site
Hi Mrs kapper that was one of his spys awesome picks
Lol, could have been!
Mrs. Kapper you are a brave woman you should of had Mr. Kapper with you there is no telling what critters are living in there.
I think she is more scared of the ghosts, LOL. Not sure my bullets would work on ghosts!!! :0
Brave or crazy🤪! Joe's right, it's the things I can't see that I'm afraid of! 👻
Good pickin Mrs K 👍 if I'd bin there first thing I wuda done is try an start anythin with an engine 🙄😂😂 that vulture sure keepin a mean old eye on you Mrs K 🤔😕 good video 👍
See, you would run for the engines and I'd run for the barnwood!😄
Ya, that vulture wasn't scared at all, but I won the standoff! This time...
Salvage those antique doors and the door locks and door knobs, the antique kitchen fixtures or bathroom fixtures, any antique appliances you can find, any antique containers, bowls, dishes, silverware or anything of that sort. People are looking for that stuff. Sell on eBay.
It was called a "Star Bit/Drill" in my day. I used this bit with a 2 lb hand held sledge. I wished it was pneumatic...
Mrs Kapper are they going to knock the old house down or leave it as part of the sale? Cool finds! What about metal detecting? There has to be a trash and burn pit somewhere too. Loved the adventure. peace and love, y'all
I think he's selling the house as is. Too many restrictions on how to dispose of.
If I metal detected it would take me a day to get a foot in! 😀. There is metal everywhere.
He can burn. But not until all the vehicles and tractors are gone.
@@CedarBluffRustics that makes sense. I wonder if you would be able to ID the trash dump area with the drone. They usually have cool finds.
Yeesh not to sure I’d go with a kitchen/bathroom combo. If joe doesn’t have an anvil that railroad track will sure come in handy
I do need an anvil! Been forgetting to grab that chunk of track!!!
It was definitely a remodel attempt since there was no bathroom originally, I think they just stuffed it in the back .
I brought Joe's Christmas present home already and its on his welding table waiting for him!
That candy cane iron is an antique ladder hook
That spike is a concrete drill.
that railroad scrap might be useful. its grade A steel. :D
yeah, she didn't tell me about that! I'm going to get it!!
Its already on his welding table waiting for him 😉
There are appeared to be some sort of a nest in the Gable of the roof near where the turkey buzzard was at.
yeah them things are nasty!!! Hope she does not encounter it again! LOL
@@kapperoutdoors My observation my have been a little premature. After watching a couple other videos it appears that it's just a bunch of vines in the gable.
Just subscribed last night and I'm really enjoying this clean-up series. It's oddly satisfying. it's nothing too technical but gratifying to see something being improved.
Take Care and Be Careful. K
If there's a turkey vulture on the roof the house is haunted! 😆
Yep, Mrs. Kapper would agree with you!!!
turkey buzzer
Was this a hoarders house?
So much random stuff in the rooms that dont belong there.their out of place.
I'd be checking inside ALL the walls
That's a pretty big task! Maybe you could come and do that and if you find the mother lode then we can split it!? :)
@@kapperoutdoors I would have the time of my life going through that place. To me it's not so much about the money it's about the history
if you save the farmhous it is not soo best i think
Are you selling some of those old doors?
If so, I would be interested in purchasing them.
I'm not sure how to send you contact info but I have some incredibly smart kids who can help me with that. (If your selling them that is.)
Send us an email if you want, I am not sure what she is keeping or not. kapper@kapperoutdoors.com Thanks.
@@kapperoutdoors Thank you. I will do so.
That's funny at 4:59 3 survive democratic something Democratic party is trying to destroy people's life back then too😄😄😄 they'll never change for the better
international wrecker
Buzzards defense, they vomit and its some kinda nasty
oh nice, wonder if that is why the roof was rotten and leaking!
Ewwwww..... 🤢
