When my brother came home on leave from the Army, my 6-year-old son asked if he worked with any black people (we’re from Montana). My brother said yes, and my son asked what they were like. I don’t know what he thought black people looked like.

@Lucas B I live in Southern California and have been to Jimmy Kimmel's show a few times. There are no signs telling you when to clap or sit down. Where did you come up with this? I've been to other shows as well, and they don't have any of the things that you mentioned.
@@lillyanderson3623 I had been on a popular, national talk show over 20 years ago. Prior to taping, we were told to follow the lead of hype man standing next to the stage. At that time, many daytime talk shows had a hype man or woman directing audience reaction. Perhaps things are different now. Maybe some do and others don't.
@mike Johnson I have not been to tapings of any daytime talk shows. I was mainly taking issue with the comment that audiences are puppets.

Twenty years ago, I found the practice to be disingenuous, even though I understood how it provided for better home viewer experience, and higher show ratings. OMG BUD GRANT!!!!! I'm an old Vikings fan from way back, and seeing him made me high! BTW, to be fair, MN has a fairly low African American population. 13.6% of Americans are "black or African American," and it's only 7.4% in Minnesota (US Census). We have an incredibly shameful history in our state of redlining and other policies that have prevented our population from being fully integrated too, so it can be difficult for a rural or suburban white person in MN to even know any black people, let alone make friends. Right now I have a few black students and coworkers (including my boss), a black landlord, and my primary care physician is a black woman (and I love her so much!), but I can't honestly say I currently have any black friends. I really only have 4 friends, close friends. Three are white, and one is Hispanic. Sure I have black acquaintances, but I won't play that game to make it seem like I have more black friends than I do.
One of those acquaintances was actually George Floyd - yeah, him.😞He did security at a bar where my band used to play. He even introduced us once at the start of our first set. We gave him a few bucks, which turned out to be the same amount we'd each made that night! It's worth it though, when the audience loves the guy doing the intro, they like the band more. George was popular. A lot of people loved him.
