- Hello :)
This is the requested transcription I've done of the Boston song "More Than a Feeling" from their 1976 self titled album. The bass player was either Tom Scholz or Fran Sheehan. I can't say for sure. If anyone knows, please let me know and I'll update this description.

I just read that Tom Scholz is a fan of classical music, and I think you can hear some of that influence in this song. This is a really well written and arranged song, and perfectly recorded. What a great sounding song and album. To think Tom Scholz recorded the album in his home studio back in 1976...wow! That's impressive.
I did something that I don't normally do on this song, and that is to ignore the low D. Normally I would use my 5 string or drop tune if hear a low D, but I'm so sure that this was dubbed in that I didn't think it was necessary to TAB it or notate for a 5 string. I've put the low notes in brackets just in case you want to play the low D.
There are some 16th notes in the chorus that I wasn't sure if they were there or not? It might be a drum subdivision? It seemed a little busy to me, but when I simplified the rhythm, it felt like I was missing something. So I left them in.
This is a fun song to play along with. It would make for a good reading exercise ;)
I hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to "like" and "subscribe" and thanks for watching.

This really takes me back. I remember learning this note for note from a record album in the first band I was in back in the early 80s. I was so proud of being able to play this and YYZ by Rush.
And so you should've been proud! :) Thanks!
1:12 to 1:30 is what it's all about for me. Classic line. Great job - thanks for sharing.
That's a nice part :) Thanks!
I truly believe that this is that ONE song that transcends all musical genres... this is a beautiful bass part that goes virtually unnoticed but is critical to the success of the song. Well done, Greg.
Thank you very much :) It's such a well written song. A masterpiece for sure. Thanks!
Tom Scholtz played bass on this. In fact, he played lead and rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar, special guitar effects, bass, organ, clavinet, percussion, and was the producer and engineer.
He's a one man band!
That first Boston album has fantastic bass lines. Great cover as always
Hi Gary, thanks very much. That album was an instant classic. What a great album and yes, great bass lines on there too. Thanks!
Had a fun time learning this for my rock band class at school👍 🎸 Thanks 🙏
That's great! I'm really glad it was helpful. Keep rockin'! :)
Thanks Greg for sharing another great Chicago bass tab!!
Boston, but I know what you meant ;) Thank you!

Fantastic as always👏
Thank you Max :)
Thank you appreciate the chords names with it!
No problem!
Love it! Thank you so much for this!! 🙂
My pleasure...thank you! :)
Very cool, Greg! It is a great bass part and I really like seeing it written out. I saw them live in the last 70s and was really impressed as Franz Sheehan seemed to play every note as recorded. Not sure who played it on the studio recording, but man, Franz nailed it that night!
It's one of those bass lines, where you almost have to play it note for note. It's such a strong, melodic line. Lucky you to see them back in the day...very cool :)
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you :)
Wow!
Thanks :)
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thanks great job
My pleasure. Thank you!
Thank you, great job, brilliant song. Can you make a video on Kula Shaker's Great Hosannah, please🙂 thx❤️🇵🇱
I'll check it out...thanks!
Really thought he played drop D for this song, hitting the low D right after the guitar solo
Anyway amazing cover still🤘🏻
I don't think so? Thanks!
According to what I have found and in the Boston Bass book. Tom Scholz has full writing credit for words and music parts.
Yes, I figured so. He's very talented. Thanks!
Some 45 years later and I still get goosebumps listening to this album. Truly enjoyed your cover. Thanks for showing us how it's played. Cheers
The album was an instant classic. Amazing songs, perfectly recorded. Thanks very much Constantine :)
Hello Greg ; fantastic job as always! I have challenging request for you. The song is "Get Ready"( LONG VERSION) by Rare Earth. It's about 20 minutes long. and to has anawesome bass solo in the song! 🙂
Hi Clarke, thanks very much. As for your challenge, I'm going to have to pass on the 20 minute song. I'll have a listen to it though...thanks :)
I don’t blame you😂
#92, the C chord prior to the end; only you could have transcribed that properly. That's real fun. Such a melodic bass line and so defines this song.
Thank you :) It's a very melodic bass line. Fun to play...thanks!
The bass sounds ever so slightly out of tune.
Always LOVED the bass guitar in this song…you did great!
Thanks very much. I've always liked this bass line too. It was good to learn :)
