Been a year since I got my first Aegis and it's lived through everything I've had to put it through. I still love this knife. I carry it EVERY DAY. It's outstanding!!!
Just ordered my SOG Aegis, I'm a big knife and gun guy and i appreciate all the work put into tnp, i can't tell u how many times one of your videos made me feel me comfortable about a purchase, keep em comin!
I just got my aegis today and holy crap this thing is so freaking light! Thx nutnfancy another product I got from watching ur channel please keep doing what u do
i've had a sog aegis for months its awesome but going threw security while on honeymoon at airport in hawaii forgot i had it on person ending up giving it up got back home ordered a new one. Best knife every since i was young thanks to nutnfancy info on the knife this knife was introduced to me. great vids. keep pushing the project.
Thanks for all the info Nutn'. I just bought this knife literally 10 minutes after watching this! This is exactly the kind of knife I was looking for and now I've found it thanks to you! Now I can't wait for it to get here! Cheers!
I bought this knife earlier this year after watching this same review. I love the project and will always consult them before I make a choice on any gear, knife or firearm. Keep it up Nutn, you're one of the Greats!
Good point MerkWork. The "safety" on the Aegis is stiff and low profile and I haven't noticed this problem yet. On many of my Flashes, I just superglue the safety in the non-actuated position and then don't have to worry about it. It's really unneeded on the design and I think it's just there for liability. Happy New Year all!
another great review. These videos realy deliver; Nutnfancy realy is what you can call a passionate aficianado of knives, he knows what he's talking about and the way he makes these vids with structure, logic, to the point and start to finish interesting; sheer entertainment. I've grown to be a real fan
as an owner of this knife. I love it. carries well and cuts even better. still sharp after months of use. and just fits your hand perfectly. would buy again in a heartbeat. only gripe is that the safety could be bigger, but I never have it on anyways.
It just depends on what you're after. For a user knife I applaud honest wear and it just makes the blade look cooler. For a collector, I keep them pristine for retained value. Thanks.
Just ordered one in the same configuration! Thanks for the great reviews and keep them coming! They are very informative and save me a lot of guess work when choosing a product. I also love your philosophy videos. Thanks again Nutnfancy!
Thanks for the review Nutn'. I have the SOG Flash II and have been very happy with it. I had not even heard of the Aegis...now I NEED it. This will be my next purchase, thanks!
Just bought the Aegis yesterday because of the review. I had no addiction to the blade until I started digging into your reviews and realized how many AWESOME blades there are and how useful they are in EDC roles. Love what you do keep it coming! Next time you're down at Impact lets put some lead down range! I'm there way too much.. according to my wife
My wife hates TNP. Why? I cant stop watching various reviews. Well researched, tested and explained to the less informed like me. Just bought this one. Cant wait to use it myself. Thanks TNP for the great effort and, more importantly, the great attitude. I buy nothing without watching your videos.
Had mine for about a year now and it kicks ass! I take it with me. I use it. It never fails me and looks as awesome as it did when I first bought it. You will not be disatisfied with this blade. Hooah!
Within 10 hours of researching knives I had chosen the Aegis with Tanto and partial serration. 30 hours later and I'm back where I started. I had my eye on other blades in between, but now I know I was right all along, minus the Tanto and serrated edge. I'll be picking this up within the next few hours and I'm PUMPED!
A Civilian Sheepdog refers to a person who takes it upon themselves to protect and lookout for the majoity of the public (sheep) that for lack of a better term are naive, to the wolves that surround us. The Aegis is my all time favorite EDC knive, the steel has its weak points, but I am extremely happy with the design, and finish, plus they are a local company for me. I bought my Dad one for his Birthday, and now he carries it everyday as well. Our outlook on EDC changed dramatically last Christmas when my Mom had a low life try and grab her purse. Luckily we subdued him, but in the struggle my cousin was knocked down into a fire hydrent, and her hip was broken. I would like to see the Aegis with a better steel, but the AUS8 will work.
I bought this knife in 09 after watching this review and have carried it every day since then, this knife is really great and i have not found another knife that replicates its usefulness as well as great EDC features like it's weight and size. Mine no longer looks as nice and shiny like it was new but it certainly works just as well. 5 years of hard use for $60, not a bad deal. Thanks Nutn for the review.
Have owned this knife for about 6 months now (TiNi black coating with black handle). Light, comfortable to hold, and excellent blade shape. Wear it everyday as an EDC blade. Don't even notice the weight. Great buy for the money.
The Aegis has been one of my constant companions for about a year. Initially had some blade play. Adjusting the tension did not clear up the tiny up/down blade play but, over time the blade seems to have "bedded" itself and has no play now; without further adjustment. Only knock is that the pocket clip has developed some wiggle. The clip can't go anywhere and functions just fine. If you like the blade shape check out the Sog Team Leader fixed blade, it's what prompted me to get the Aegis.
After watching this a couple of months ago i went out and bought one. I am more a fan of serration and tantos so i bought a combo edge tanto and i LOVE it. The knife has kept a good edge for about 6 months but now i need to sharpen it. But the knife has done everything i needed it to do. I am in the market for a Sypderco Tenacious now in their Spyder Edge but the Ageis will always be my favorite EDC. Thanks Nutnfancy for helping me choose a great blade.
I've been looking at the Aegis and thought I'd come and check my favourite blade reviewer. Sure enough - you've reviewed it! It's confirmed my decision, thanks again dude!
Thanks for the input. I did adjust the pivot on both. The regular Aegis is okay now, but the Mini doesn't want to tighten enough to get rid of the movement. I think the plastic is slightly deformed and won't allow a tight lock up. On both, In my opinion the action is not very smooth. At least they are sharp.
Nut'n, I bought one of these in the all black for my friend, as an early Christmas present. I checked it out before I gave it to him and was impressed with it and he loves it. I'm going to have to pick one up myself! (In the camo handle) Got it from Jeff at The Cutlery Shoppe and I have to thank you for recommending him. I've been buying knives from Jeff and from Blade HQ for a few years now and they are super businesses. Jeff's quick turn around and low prices make him my first choice.
LOL I just realized, I won't have to spend so much shopping around for a great tactical knife to add to my system. I found it! Doesn't mean I won't keep watching, though. Keep up the awesome work, Nutn!
I just got my Aegis today, and it's a great knife. The blade itself is fantastic, and came very sharp from the factory. Pocket clip is very tight and will need to be worked a bit, but that's no big deal.
I actually went to the SOG factory in Lynnwood WA to handle both the Aegis and Flash 2. I was amazed at how light both the knives were, I am used to carrying spydercos with steel liners inside. I ended up getting a black TiNi Aegis because it fit my hand a lot better than the flash2. I ordered it online though because the factory location only has returns/seconds.
@TacticalGearJunkie Yep I still love and have seen no meaningful issues with mine or other TNPrs knives. I've ran into several packing heavily used Aegis' and they are lasting. The only downside is higher cost and delicate tip.
I bought the Aegis almost a year ago in the digi camo... still love it and I'm still surprised how light it is for its size. The only problem was that the blade wasn't perfectly centered from day one. It's not awful, so no big deal for me though.
Just grabbed one of these puppies and I'm glad I did. Nice upgrade from my Leek, especially when it comes to the bellyI of the blade. Nice lockup, great jimping and lightweight. Probably the new EDC for a while. Thanks for the great tip on a killer knife. Double Owl Approved
I had the exact opposite experience! Bought a used camo Aegis after seeing this review about a year ago, it's my first EDC knife, and I LOVE it! Perfect for deep carrying, great clip, fits my hand perfectly... I've become somewhat addicted to flipping it open. The thing that surprises me is the comments I get when I pull it to cut a cake or something, it has an aggressive look that people are attracted to. Only down side is I use it TOO MUCH! I'm about to get a 2nd one. Nutn's review is dead on.
I picked up this knife just because of your review. But I went with the tanto blade. I like the half serrated blade better along with the straight blade edges. One thing about the knife that I fixed was that the clip was very tight, so I bent it a little. Now it's perfect.
I just got it from the US (I'm from Italy). I don't even have a clue if the assisted opening is legal here, probably not. I own now 3 SOG, aegis, mini fielder assisted and salute mini. I love them. SOG stuff is very difficult to find here so I get everything I can get my hands on. In my opinion Aegis is very light, maybe too much, and people here and there often tell some adjustments are mandatory out of the box. Other than that, the assisted opening might be a little tricky on "mini" series but not impossible to open sigle handed. I wonder if the internal mechanics will last, but reading your comments make me suppose it's very sturdy. Fine knives, expecially Aegis. You guys, and Nutnfancy of course, should try extrema ratio knives, made here in Italy. They are expensive in the US (as SOG is here) but you really got to check some of those.
Picked one of these up at Cabelas, and did not expect it to be near that light. I knew it was lightweight, but for the size of the knife it is like a feather weight.
Just ordered my SOG Aegis this morning before work, Spyderco Tenacious came in yesterday. Next month, the Spyderco Military is on the list. Keep the knife collections alive.
I've been carrying my Aegis (black handle, black ceramic finish on the blade) for almost a year. Love it! It takes an edge well and keeps it for a reasonable amount of time. It's very fast to deploy and the blade shape is almost perfect. I had been carrying a tiny Buck key chain pen knife for a decade, and while I could use it to open a box or cut some twine, it's a toy compared to a real blade like the Aegis, and the real blade on the Aegis could be used for defense if needed.
I just sent mine back. After 5 months of LIGHT use, the locking mechanism began failing. What this meant was it went from a locking knife to a non-locking knife which can be dangerous. I contacted SOG through their website two months ago and they never responded. I returned the knife to Amazon and won't be buying another SOG anytime soon. Maybe this was a freak thing, but it left a bad taste...
I just got one of these and so far I am quite pleased. I have had absolutely no issues with this knife so far. that could change but I don't see that happening
Dream dream dream. This knife is just a dream for Australia as it assisted opening. Or is it?! Just received it in the mail today - fantastic! You beaut nutnfancy thanks for the recommendation... awesome blade.
Very informative review, prompted me to acquire the black/black AE-02 version. I especially like the multi-mission capability of the SOG Aegis. Keep up the good work.
Nutnfancy, thank you for doing these amazing knife reviews. I was a gun guy, but I watched several knife videos and it really got me into collecting them. Thank you. My pocketbook hurts though. :)
"That's a strong tip! [...] That's actually not a bad tanto shape." Thanks Nutn. I've had my tanto aegis for about 6 months. It's becoming my main edc. But I've babied it lol. I'll put it through regular use. I will. It will last years and years.
I agree the wear looks ok or even cool in some cases. I saw they have a non-coat blade but with no digi camo. Maybe I will have to just go for this one in the black blade. Sog is really doing some great stuff.
just bought this knife myself and i like it better then most the other under $100 knives. i wasn't even considering this one when i went to a local cabelas to buy a knife but i saw this and i have to say seeing knifes in person is definitely a lot better then seeing some pictures online. i liked the shape of the handle the length and shape of the blade and the digital camo with the black blade really called out to me as i was standing there trying to pick out a knife.
@SIFLINT1 The piston that locks the blade and the lever to pull that piston back are not connected, so the lever sometimes does not go all the way foreward, when the piston does.
I've just ordered a Spyderco Para Military D2 so I'm good on knives right now but I've been looking for a reason for me to like SOG folders but the Aegis might be one to check out, the only thing I would change about the knife is actualy the clip and I would have to bend the clip to be flush with the handle instead of hanging over it or else it kind of locks on to your pocket when fully in the pocket.
just literally just bought this knife after seeing this vid.Coming this week i cant wait. I've been watching your edc and tactical blade playlists for a while trying to find a good blade for my next purchase.I did'nt get the camo or tini coated blade because what was being charged and because i like a plain blade.
I just got my Aegis!! This thing is really cool! It is a little bit on the 'big' side (8.25'') but very functional and you get ALOT of knife for the money!
after watching a ton of knives come out over the years it's crazy to see the most versatile and strong cross functionality blade design, not unlike the centuries old japanese deba finally make it's way to a pocket knife. now that said i think it's ugly always have, it's just me. i own a few in this style for cooking and they are hands down me favorite. so i cant help but to agree this is my favorite pocket knife now for years
I hate plastic knives and hated this knife till I started using it(was a gift). the handle is actually kinda cool with the rubber strips, at least its not just plastic. One more cool thing, sock carry, with a paracord box weave on the end of the clip very tight, works as an extension of the butt for easy draw. awesome look too
Thank you for the excellent review. I recently purchased the SOG Aegis camo and it is indeed an excellent knife. My knife has a different camo pattern than the one reviewed and the measured weight is 3.0 oz.
This is currently on CTD for under $50. I got one at a local Bass Pro for quite a bit more. I haven't put it through any hard use, but it's my EDC and I love it.
I recently aquired one of these. My initial impressions are good, I had to monkey with the pivot screw to get the side to side movement minimized without hindering the opening speed. but I think I have that pretty much dialed in now. It is amazingly sharp right out of the box... While I was tweaking the pivot screw, , I lost my grip on the knife, and while it was falling, it sliced my thumb open like a razor. But due to the sharpness, it didn't hurt, and it healed in 2 days.
To be quite honest, the Manix 2 and Aegis feel very similar. The only thing that dictates whether or not I carry the Manix 2 or the Aegis depends on the pair of pants that I wear. They are both awesome, similarly priced knives.
I love this knife, I did not like the knife in the begin but I have now had it for 1.5 years and I can only agree with what Nutnfancy says. it is a true EDC and it is in my pocket every day, I've even ordered a second one just in case (can not live without it :-)
I am going to get the Flash 1 and i just oredered the Mini pentagon and i already have the Trident and they are all great knives and in the near future i am going to be ordering the Powerassist multitool! Nutnfancy's the best reviewer on UA-cam!
I just picked one up a couple of days ago, along w/a Spyderco Endura 4. Both are soo cool! My Aegis also had a little play in the blade when deployed. No biggie, just tighten it up some. Thanks for the cool review. I think a want one in desert camo w/the in tanto blade next. Man I end up spending money after watching your vids Nutn!... :-)
Just got my digi camo version of this today, actually a bit suprised it ended up getting to Australia, bought mine direct from SOG, took about 2 weeks from USA - AUS so im fair happy with that, amazing knife, didnt have a "Opened by Australia Post for inspection by Customs" on this one though!! haha
I just ordered this knife with the black handle and satin finish blade at New graham for $54 =] I have wanted it ever since i first saw this review, but couldn't find it ANYWHERE. So i bought it when i saw that NG had 1 in stock. Cant wait.
SOG Aegis AE-02 arrived today from Amazon. Deployment of the blade seems easier than on the Mini. Blade very sharp right out of the box. Needed to stretch the pocket clip to permit an easier draw from the right side pants pocket. Both knives seem to have some side to side play, but not enough to make me regret the purchase. Like to learn more about blade laws, as assisted opening and blade lengths can get you into trouble in certain states. Sorry to hear about your issues Ouroboros4.
I got this knife for Christmas and am very pleased with it. Can't believe grandpa spend $125 on it. One thing that struck me as particularly odd though, is that the current Aegis's knives don't have that insignia located on the blade directly following the word SOG mine is exactly the same except for that mine just has a small R on it for reserved. I'm very meticulous
@oweeno123 Ive taken one apart, there is a spring loaded ram which pushes foreward into the locking notch on the back of the blade, and then to retract , you pull on the locking bar, which pushes on a pin coming out of the side of the ram, which retracts it.
Amazing knife. I bought the Aegis a little over a year ago after watching this review. I've used this knife as my EDC knife every day since purchase. Furthermore, I've made it a point to put it through some abuse (mostly as a result of everyday use and wear). The knife is still in great shape. The steel is a bit weak so the blade is SLIGHTLY chipped in places but nothing at all major. It does (surprisingly) hold an edge quite well, though. I'll probably be buying a second (with serration) soon.
I picked up the SOG Aegis a week ago, and have already traded it off! Should have shot a video before letting it go. I was easily (with my hands) able to defeat the lock with about 10 pounds of pressure on the back of the blade (I am not exaggerating here! What does this mean to the knife user? Forget it for EDC, except for opening boxes or carving up your favorite steak. Use the Aegis in any kind of of combat encounter and it will close on your fingers if bumped on the blade back!
i just got my Aegus today and one thing ive noticed that Nutn's handle is mor of a desert camo and mine is more woodland (the coyote brown on his is OD on mine)
Just ordered the Black AE-02 TiNi SOG Aegis from Amazon. Have had its smaller brother, the Mini for about a month. Just digging it so much. Reviewers have been mixed on several factors, but I don't plan to use either in extreme conditions. Love the looks of the blade and assisted opening on the Mini. Hopeful of same. Like Kuan Lee, I looked at the Camo version, but felt the Black Tini was a better choice for my EDC. Don't care for the serrated version. I like the deep carry clip too.
That is an awesome knife. I am thinking seriously about getting it after watching your review. I just got the SOG Flash 1 as a warranty replacement from SOG, but some of their knives are horrible like the blink.
@joker33284 The SOG Aegis is an assisted opening blade, meaning you have to initiate the opening, as were a automatic blade does not require that intitial movment all you have to press is a button/switch, hope this helps
This is my EDC blade, DEAD ON review! I would like to see the skeletonized liners in it, just for the piece of mind. I would prefer a handle material with a bit more grip. (This is a minor gripe because the shape of handle fits my hand so well, but my hand has moved a little more than comfortable when I'm sweaty) Overall this is a GREAT knife, and easily the favorite folder of my small collection! Keep up the great work Nutn!!!
After watching your vid, IAMboognish, on "tactical" use, I get your point and think it's valid. I also think that Nutnfancy is one of the most evenhanded, circumspect knife reviewers on UA-cam, and as you point out, b/c he's "a killer" (i.e. military, LE), he speaks from that POV. I don't own an EDC knife, but plan on getting one soon, and the issues you bring up are ones I ponder often, esp. given that I live in a big city. Ultimately, the dialogue you and Nutn create is for the ultimate good.
thanks for the review. i talked myself out of the sogtac as i'll moving to a state where autos are illegal soon and was looking for a good alternative. i loved the design of the sogtac blade and while the tip isn't upswept or re-enforced on the aegis, it does have a fat tummy like the sogtac. next thing i did was look for a good review and thanks to you, that didn't take long. half the cost doesn't hurt either.
Been a year since I got my first Aegis and it's lived through everything I've had to put it through. I still love this knife. I carry it EVERY DAY. It's outstanding!!!
The SOG Aegis has instantly become my favorite knife for an every day carry! It's everything Nutnfancy said it is. Great vid !!!

Nicely done Fancy, 20 minutes with real information.
Good thing I ordered Flash 2 and Aegis, awesome knives for such little money.
Happy new year!

Gotta love assisted openers with deep carry pocket clips.

Got the blk/blk today. Awesome blade, like a razor and hell of a grip. Solid, no-play lock-up and fast deployment.
Very happy camper.
I got it in the mail today, ive had the biggest smile on me since, i love this thing
They are expensive in the US (as SOG is here) but you really got to check some of those.
picked up the aegis and i was very impressed. i own alot of knives and this my new edc and it will stay that way for awhile.
Picked one of these up at Cabelas, and did not expect it to be near that light. I knew it was lightweight, but for the size of the knife it is like a feather weight.
Scored one for Christmas, yes my wife loves me. Awesome look in the digi cam. This will be my daily carry.
@305Wasabi Benchmade Blue Box toolkit. Thanks man.
Nutnfancy, thank you for doing these amazing knife reviews. I was a gun guy, but I watched several knife videos and it really got me into collecting them. Thank you. My pocketbook hurts though. :)
Yet another blade bought based on nutn's review. Very happy with it. Thanks once again Mr. Fancy
"That's a strong tip! [...] That's actually not a bad tanto shape."
Thanks Nutn.
Just ordered my Aegis!!! Early Christmas present, cannot wait!
just bought this knife myself and i like it better then most the other under $100 knives. i wasn't even considering this one when i went to a local cabelas to buy a knife but i saw this and i have to say seeing knifes in person is definitely a lot better then seeing some pictures online. i liked the shape of the handle the length and shape of the blade and the digital camo with the black blade really called out to me as i was standing there trying to pick out a knife.
Oh and I picked the blade up because of your info. No bullshit, in depth and entertaining.
I know it's expensive but please keep it up.
Thanks
@SIFLINT1 The piston that locks the blade and the lever to pull that piston back are not connected, so the lever sometimes does not go all the way foreward, when the piston does.
I've just ordered a Spyderco Para Military D2 so I'm good on knives right now but I've been looking for a reason for me to like SOG folders but the Aegis might be one to check out, the only thing I would change about the knife is actualy the clip and I would have to bend the clip to be flush with the handle instead of hanging over it or else it kind of locks on to your pocket when fully in the pocket.
Just go this knife last week after seeing the review and love it all the guys at work are really diggin it. The digi cam is a second kind of cool.
just literally just bought this knife after seeing this vid.Coming this week i cant wait.
I just received my Sog Aegis with a black blade and digi cam handle in the mail today! So far I love it!
after watching a ton of knives come out over the years it's crazy to see the most versatile and strong cross functionality blade design, not unlike the centuries old japanese deba finally make it's way to a pocket knife. now that said i think it's ugly always have, it's just me. i own a few in this style for cooking and they are hands down me favorite. so i cant help but to agree this is my favorite pocket knife now for years
I hate plastic knives and hated this knife till I started using it(was a gift). the handle is actually kinda cool with the rubber strips, at least its not just plastic.
I like the clicking sound the blade makes when it opens. Very nice review in detail as always. Keep up the great reviews in the future brother.

Just got my digi camo version of this today, actually a bit suprised it ended up getting to Australia, bought mine direct from SOG, took about 2 weeks from USA - AUS so im fair happy with that, amazing knife, didnt have a "Opened by Australia Post for inspection by Customs" on this one though!! haha
I just ordered this knife with the black handle and satin finish blade at New graham for $54 =]
I have wanted it ever since i first saw this review, but couldn't find it ANYWHERE.
One thing that struck me as particularly odd though, is that the current Aegis's knives don't have that insignia located on the blade directly following the word SOG
mine is exactly the same except for that mine just has a small R on it for reserved.
Use the Aegis in any kind of of combat encounter and it will close on your fingers if bumped on the blade back!
lol I like how you go "Super Awesome!"
Man, I really want one now...
i just got my Aegus today and one thing ive noticed that Nutn's handle is mor of a desert camo and mine is more woodland (the coyote brown on his is OD on mine)
I just got the SOG Flash 1 as a warranty replacement from SOG, but some of their knives are horrible like the blink.
i just bought one of these and it is a really nice knife. I am carrying it everyday now
Good Review! SOG has been coming out with some awesome knives lately. I'm very excited to get my hands on a Visionary II
@Kylef7735 Great answer Kyle...thanks for fielding that one.
@joker33284 The SOG Aegis is an assisted opening blade, meaning you have to initiate the opening, as were a automatic blade does not require that intitial movment all you have to press is a button/switch, hope this helps
Im glad u like the flash, i just ordered a sog flash 2 tanto straight edge. Cant wait.
FYI: SOG website has the Flash II in digital desert camo, and some other models.
I think I'm going to have to pick one of this up. (Hopefully, its sooner than later.) Thanks Nutn, for the informative review.
Awesome knife! I really want to get one. Thanks for the review Nutnfancy!
You just sold one of these for SOG. Thanks for all of the info, please keep it up!
Thank you very much for the response comment and it did help alot!
I should be receiving mine anyday now, I cant wait. I bought the same model.
