Been using my new SOG mini for a while now. Ordered it after seeing your review. I was a little concerned before it arrived because other reviewers panned it, but your review is right on the money. One of the best edc's I've ever had. Thanks for the review and please keep them coming.
I love these knives! I've had the full sized digital camo for a few months now, and I just bought the mini in all black Monday. I can't want for it to get to my house! Thanks NutN!
love the look of the SOG Mini Aeigis. My father has a Trident Tanto. They're beautiful knives, have been planing on buying a SOG for EDC and now i will most likely get the Mini Aeigis!!!!
oh thank god another knife review i was contemplating on whether or not i should unsub because as much as i love guns, i dont have the money to spend on them....this reminded me why i love this channel and i dont think ill be unsubbing forever.
I just found out that graphite can absorb moisture, and promotes oxidation, or rust on most stainless knives, through galvanic oxidation, on martinsitic stainless steels. The rust on the Kershaw that You showed, was probably caused by sharpening pencils. Thanks for all the great Vids. I learned this fact by watching Neptune Knives vid. Thanks for all the great Vids through out the Years, You were the first influence on My passion for knives. Thanks so much, Charlie
bought this knife in Oct based partly on your video. Thanks nutn this knife is great! the clip is perfect. you were right in the update video on the aegis- the jimping on the black blade is awesome.
Great review...Been looking for a new EDC folder with a deep pocket clip. Your review tipped the scale(influenced) me to order one before I even finished watching the video. Thanks for finding great products and demonstrating how to better analyze designs and features.
I would love to see another SOG multi-tool review. I just picked up the crosscut and it's the most functional mult-itool I've owned! I love the tweezers and toothpick!
I have my dad's Victorinox multi-tool and he had it for almost twenty years. I've had it for years, and I wouldn't use any other for that, but for actual knives, SOG and Cold Steel are the only knives I trust.
As of right now I EDC the full size SOG Aegis for everyday utility tasks and in a tactical role as well. I couldn't be happier with it right now. Might have to pick up the mini and try it as well.
Dude, I bought this knife a few months back based on your recommendation. I love this thing. It was probably the sharpest knife out of the box I have ever owned. Way sharper than my next favorite Benchmade Stryker (D2 I don't like so much though.)
I have always loved the Aegis knife. Don't really know why I haven't bought one, but I always thought it might be a little large for EDC. This knife looks to fit the EDC bill more approprately, and I am receiving one today. Thanks for the review and the heads up on this knife. Shhhh...don't tell my wife I bought ANOTHER knife! Livin' TNP
I've got the full sized aegis in digi camo, AWESOME blade! 1st and 2nd type of cool. Mini is on the Christmas list, the full sized while its very precise, the mini literally would be a pocket surgeon
The full size Aegis has replaced my Skyline as my EDC blade. It is all about the blade in my mind, both are excellent, a blade and a cover. The SOG Aegis, though large, rides deep and disappears in my pocket. Love the 2nd kinda cool when you whip it out and blow minds.
I've noticed my Aegis cuts though food like hard boiled eggs quite a bit more easliy than my hollow ground super sharp Vantage. Further confirming your food prep point. Additionally, I just used my Aegis for an entire season of kayaking. Swam each time with it, dried it off, but never oiled it. No rust yet. Still want a Salt series for next year. ;) Love my Aegis. Dad loves his mini Aegis.
Love the mini,so light, fits deep in the pocket. It is what it is,for edc chores its great. Got to watch the pocket clip though,if you snag things a lot it will catch. I only carry this other than work.
SOG Mini just arrived today. Thanks Amazon. I'm digging the knife, but my thumb is getting real sore from the thumb stud and closure slide from deploying and closing it so much. Got the Flash I also today. Nice size and weight, but even with my small hands, deployment takes some thinking to keep my index finger tucked out of the way. Son has his 21st birthday soon. I'll think about giving him the Flash I, a Cadet and a Preon 2 to build on his EDC. (Thanks Nutnfancy for the reviews.)
I love my SOGs! Especially my Power Assist Multi-tool. More than twice the compression in those precision jaws, than any other multi-tool. And those pliers are what sets the multi-tool apart from any other folding knife kit (swiss army, etc). Thanks Nutn...great review. Top of the morning to your sister = ) ~Wolf
Love the mini. Feels like it was made to fit in my hand. The only issue is it appears the blade jimping grooves are pointed the wrong way. When your knife is deployed, look at the jimping and you'll notice the notches point slightly away from your thumb as opposed to towards. Still grips well but try pushing your thumb in the opposite direction of the jimping and you'll see what I mean
Could you do a video some day on how you set up your run and guns? Also, how do you ensure maximum safety but the best training? I feel like a whole video on that and just how you organize all your ammo/transporting rifles.
the blade tip of my Aegis full size has proven very useful. knot removal, fix your girls jewelry, etc. But, yes, its delicate as knife tips go. Love that knife. More than that, my complaint would be about the stability in the absence of rails (which is balanced against the great light weight). you can feel the flex btwn blade and frame. I'm buying this mini any day now simply based on my time with the full size. keep it up Nutn and let your TNPers know if/when you get to east coast!
My safety on my SOG Trident TF-3 TigerStripe model kept actuating. So, after taking it apart for duracoating (T15 Tactical Foliage Green) I ended up taking out the safety. Fairly easy process and now it doesn't actuate in my pocket. TNP 'til I die!
also worth noting, i agree with Nutn that I've never engaged the blade in my pocket or by accident. also agree that the pivot screw will always need some slight torquing (see last post on stability).
Ive had a couple instances where my SC Delica 4 dropped out of my pocket due to its lack of retention (unmodded clip). Thats why I love the Aegis so much. It carries so deep combined with the weight, that I end up forgetting I have it on me :P
Great review, love the clearness in your speach on your vids. I own a SOGFari 18" Machete and looking forward to purchasing one of their knives. The mini Aegis would defintely be a front runner and simply love the Digi Camo pattern. I'm with you on the serations, I purchased a Kershaw years ago with the partially serated blade, and probably have only used that part of the blade twice with combersome efforts. Thanks for the review!
i love your work mate. long time subscriber but never normally comment. i watch all the way from london, england and can only marvel at some of the weapons you have on here!
I like these locks. Maybe not necesary but they are very positive and not easily manipulate by accident. Id like to see Nutn review the Gerber assisted knives and their locks, very different...
Yesssssssss, a blade review, and a blade I'm saving for! Still have the same taste for knifes, It looks awesome. On a side note, I do love the SOG multitool, but have the same complaint about those wings, but still a great tool, well I think. Leatherman behing the best for me, SOG come second in front of swiss tool! Loved the review and thanks again!
Studies and Observations Group, now known best as a knife selling designation because of their famed and physically distinct "untraceable knives", which were so cool everyone found out were they came from.
Just bought one from nut'n recommendation. I like the mini version for EDC use. I got the black tanto version (AE-24) for $49.95 off of bladeHQ. For anyone considering this knife I would HIGHLY recommend it. Super lightweight (I was amazed when i picked it up for the first time), very sharp out of box, excellent gimping (even more on the tanto version), awesome clip, etc. Only warning is the "SOGSOG" lines on the handle ARE NOT rubber on the mini but that is a non-issue for me (grip still great)
WHOA DUDE most triumphant knife. I bonded with my large Buck Vantage Pro already :)... great knife btw. Both my big and little bucks came a bit tight but centered and the scales were a little big. No probs i just hand sanded the sharp edges and scales a bit.
Great review. I love the full size Aegis. The mini looks like a very good blade. You are right, it would be a better value priced in the $40 range. KEEP ON PREPPING
I came here hoping that you had more bad than good to say about this knife. I was ready to buy the Flash 1, even though I was a little disappointed that you can only get the black TiNi finish on a serrated blade. Then I saw the Aegis Mini with the straight edge black TiNi blade. Now I'm torn! I'm sure I can't go wrong with either choice... but I hate making the choice.
Stuck between mini aegis in all black or the spyderco delica 4. The clip on mini aegis is a big win for me. Want that deep carry where none of the knife shows.
Just ordered the Flash 1 straight edge. I think the smaller size of the knife will be better suited for my carry. If not... at least the Aegis Mini is around the $40 mar now, and I won't feel bad buying it later on.
I was wondering if you'd ever get around to reviewing this blade Nutn...thanks for the review on yet another great knife choice. I do agree that the Aegis series is a touch expensive. honestly, that's the reason I chose the Spyderco Tenacious over the full size Aegis, despite the Aegis' huge cool factor. I just didn't have the extra $25-30 for an Aegis, but still want one someday. Thanks again for the awesome review and keep 'em coming!
Not a multi tool but a review of the SOG Salute, Fantastic edc at a great price, It proves you don't have to spend a ton of money on a knife to get a good one!
@Nutnfancy Not sure you're aware, but the Access Card 2.0 can also come with a more conventional cutting edge that would suit your taste better. Would you review the knife if it had some belly?
Nutn... I know you weren't totally turned on by the SOG powerlock series but an updated version of your review would be much appreciated if time allows!
just bought one of these. i love it, but it does have lock-up problems. i can't tighten it to the point where it will lock up solid. kind of disappointing, but everything else about it rocks.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but if you order straight from SOG,( not worth it to pay MSRP though), they can engrave the knife for a small fee. Nutn's knife is custom by him though.
I see your point I agree with it, but I don't think it's fair to dink the delica 4 FFG even a little, VG10 is premium steel and it has milled steel liners "more cost" also spyderco uses a higher quality FRN they use grivory a step up from zytel. my guess is most of the cost comes from the assisted mechanism used.
There is a new application for my knife, sharpening mechanical pencils, those 0.5 mm leads are a real problem when not needle like; you're funny dude, thanks for the tip. Great video, as always, thank you.
I like SOG multitools, specifically the Powerlock, for the same reason I love Glocks. I can buy all the parts to rebuild the tool myself without having to send it back to the manufacturer. They may not be the best looking tool but again, it's a tool and it gets the job done.
I think I'll stick wtih the full size. If I were to go smaller, I would go to the Flash 1, a narrower blade, and just as fast, light, cool as the Aegis mini. Perhaps I even go to a G10 Hawk from Kershaw.. Again, if I want a lighter knife, I'm looking for a narrower blade shape in either a FFG or Hollow Ground. I have some issues with the SOG quaility as well, kind of cheap on the handles inserts.
I carry the SOG paratrooper multitool...and it's.... ok I want to get a Leatherman Blast instead. Interesting knife... $50 though.. I'd hope to find one on sale.
Rather than super glue the lock, just take off the scales and remove the lock switch. Much cleaner and you can put it back in later if you sell the knive.
Side to side movement... I guess it depends. Mine was slow and didn't have any movement. As I played with it, the speed is just fine. Not super fast still but no movement.
nutnfancy Great review. I am a big fan of SOG and was just wondering, as an EDC/everyday utility knife, would you suggest the full size or the mini Aegis? My hands are average sized and I love the feel of the full size but want to know which one you suggest.

Bought a regular size Aegis per your recommendation a year ago and I love it. The thing is so light I forget I have it clipped in my pocket.
I love these knives! I've had the full sized digital camo for a few months now, and I just bought the mini in all black Monday. I can't want for it to get to my house! Thanks NutN!

nutnfancyer then an Ad in my face. keepin it real. i'm a big SOG fan, GJ nutn, another awesome review. from the man.

I would love to see another SOG multi-tool review. I just picked up the crosscut and it's the most functional mult-itool I've owned! I love the tweezers and toothpick!
Love those mini reviews when you pull out the catalog. Thanks Nutn!
Very cool. Finally catching up on some Nutn vids and always a good start with an ol' school knife video. Thanks for posting!
I have my dad's Victorinox multi-tool and he had it for almost twenty years. I've had it for years, and I wouldn't use any other for that, but for actual knives, SOG and Cold Steel are the only knives I trust.
I just got this knife to day to replace my crapy EDC blade a friend gave me. Excited to start using it. thanks for the video Nutn.
As of right now I EDC the full size SOG Aegis for everyday utility tasks and in a tactical role as well. I couldn't be happier with it right now. Might have to pick up the mini and try it as well.

Great blades! GREAT reviews. Props to you for shout outs on the Swiss tool! I love that tool.
@nutnfancy i freekin love my Aegis. you turned me onto it and no regrets. great blade thank you

And to think I was going to bed early tonight, silly me. Time to make a cup of tea and watch some new TNP videos. Oh yesss!
Coming soon...TLC's show "My Strange Addiction" for Nutnfancy videos.
Thanks for all you have done and continue to do.
just got one of these today and i already love it. the quality is awesome!!

Love the full size Aegis - have 2 of them to rotate EDC - Thanks for review
Hey,
I have the Aegis, but sometimes it can be a bit big for EDC. I am definitely going to pick this up! Looks great.!

The Apex is a grate sharpening system. I just finished sharpening my Aegis with it. Mirror finish, 3000 grit :D

I would really like to see a video on what you don't like about the SOG multitool.

I would like to see your take on the power assist multi tool Nutn. Keep up the great work sir!
Nutnfancy - Simply the best!
That Allie hair on that blade can mean only one thing my friend... Allie's been in your knife drawer! My dog does that too.
Nutn... I know you weren't totally turned on by the SOG powerlock series but an updated version of your review would be much appreciated if time allows!
i really like the trident assist open bought a kershaw blackout instead though
Sweet vid for a sweet knife! Keep up the good work nutn!
I just removed the blade lock completely in my sog. Very easy to do.
Thanks for the shout out nutn! 11:34
lol
I just picked up a few of these for $34 at the ft hood px. Woop woop! They are on clearance.
I'm definitely diggin that blade, but I'm with you on the price issue. And I would be very interested to see a SOG multi-tool review!
just bought one of these. i love it, but it does have lock-up problems. i can't tighten it to the point where it will lock up solid. kind of disappointing, but everything else about it rocks.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but if you order straight from SOG,( not worth it to pay MSRP though), they can engrave the knife for a small fee. Nutn's knife is custom by him though.
I do not have a SOG yet but I have heard some great things about SOG!
I own the full size and agree with you on all points... keep up the great work!
Coolness! Good review. Definitely show the knife drawer!!
Mini Aegis in digi camo would be a winner.
There is a new application for my knife, sharpening mechanical pencils, those 0.5 mm leads are a real problem when not needle like; you're funny dude, thanks for the tip. Great video, as always, thank you.

Love this blade. Price is a bit steep for what you get. If it was around 35 bucks I would jump on it
I carry the SOG paratrooper multitool...and it's.... ok
I want to get a Leatherman Blast instead.
Interesting knife... $50 though.. I'd hope to find one on sale.
Have this blade in my pocket as I'm typing, just don't like the AUS8 as much as some steels, and the pocket clip is weak. However, great knife IMO!
Would love a SOG multitool video bro.
I am interested in a review of the SOG multi-tool
Rather than super glue the lock, just take off the scales and remove the lock switch. Much cleaner and you can put it back in later if you sell the knive.
Side to side movement... I guess it depends. Mine was slow and didn't have any movement. As I played with it, the speed is just fine. Not super fast still but no movement.
nutnfancy Great review. I am a big fan of SOG and was just wondering, as an EDC/everyday utility knife, would you suggest the full size or the mini Aegis? My hands are average sized and I love the feel of the full size but want to know which one you suggest.
11:20 How do you sharpen a mechanical pencil??? :)
Ordering this knife now!
I know you get a lot of request but it would be cool to do a fixed blade EDC knife or knives.
Great video! I'd love to see you review the SOG EOD Multi Tool. Big, heavy duty...I love mine, would like to hear your opinion. Nice job!
I know you have SO many knives and gear to review but I was wondering if you will be doing the new Cold Steel Voyager line that just got released?
Nevermind the knife. What brand hoody was the dog wearing?
@Socioistic I think I can safely recommend any of the FFG ones, although I really do prefer more ergonomic handles like the Raven's. :) I carry it and it's fantastic (except for slicing...but it's not too bad at that either).
we have to see that knife drawer!!! awesome vids nutn
As usual, love your knife videos. :)
I want to see a SOG pocket powerplier review. looks like LM juice competition
its that damn bead blast, opening up pores in the steel... my CS raja in my blade drawer got some surface rust on it too
@albi131 Oh yeah! Just really started to get into it honestly. Thanks bro - I'll keep em coming as best as I can!
Nice vid! Man, this reminded me to buy another SOG Flash I cause those lil' things are so damn useful.
Justin, he does his own engraving.
Hey Nutn'
I didn't have room to enter this into one comment, very informative!
Thanks again,
Charlie
Neptune Knives Vid;
Rust & Good Lubrication Methods,
I guess it won't let Me put in the link.
did you know that they make a clip version of the access card
