  • November 28, 2017 performance of the "Veni, Veni Emmanuel" Advent hymn in the Chapel of St. Basil by the University of St. Thomas Schola Cantorum, led by Michael S. Richardson.
    The polyphonic portion involves the women singing the main chant and the men holding drone notes on the words "Veni" and "Gaude" in a manner akin to the drawn-out tenor lines in the Notre Dame school of polyphony that flourished from the 12th to 13th c. in Paris.
    In the liturgical music of the Notre Dame school of polyphony, the tenor part would hold each note of the original Gregorian Chant melody for varying lengths while 1 to even 3 additional parts would sing vocal embellishments and independent melodic lines above.
