Agree completely! As a beginner, I want to learn as you go. All the compressed or short tips are more for intermediate or advanced artists. I really don''t learn much from them.
There are millions of users on UA-cam, most just browsing or killing time. The surfers leave early but those of us who like your style and would like to learn from you appreciate your real time videos.
I agree -- I subscribed to watch your videos in their entirety -- and those shallow beings who merely surf in and then out don't appreciate (and thus don't deserve) your attention. Cheers!
When I accidentally discovered BoB Ross on Tv painting I was hooked. I have not painted in a Shirley, but am going to pick my brushes up again and begin again, Nah Yehowah..."...
I agree ......just do what u love...take your time... paint it beautiful. Those of us that wish to paint beautiful will love it...teaches perfection in an imperfect world.......
Long videos...I always watch them all the way through... sometimes I am interrupted and come back to watch the rest. But I usually watch it in its entirety in one sitting. Another great tutorial Stuart. Thank you so much for sharing your process and your lovely accent!!
Long videos have their place, short videos have their place, but you’ve got such a large following doing what you do there’s no reason to fix what isn’t broken! really inspiring paintings once more.
Entirely agree. You give so many helpful insights and practical advice.. Really appreciate it.. Letting go of every worry, and just create, have fun!! Yesss
Stuart, you are one of the few artists on youtube I always watch from beginning to end! Most of the others. I just fast forward through them (they take sooo long to get to the point!). Then when they finally do, they go high speed and pass right through the stuff I want to watch! I truly love your self deprecating sense of humor, too! Methinks you are too humble at times...thank you for your videos!
Wow, Stuart. I LOVE the way you teach, the way you encourage, your generosity, attention to detail in the little things that actually do enter into an artists head...like: “if you have these lines you don’t like, Don’t panic and keep brushing” or “pay attention to the lines as you go and look for unexpected lines or shapes that you want to keep, don’t just keep sweeping away”. Very important insights that are lacking in other tutorials.
I just discovered your channel with this video. Very happy I did. I’m enjoying your style of painting… and teaching. Long videos are in depth and wonderful. If I can’t watch it in one sitting, I will come back to it later. Thank you.
Рік тому+1
I really love the attitude you paint with! All so true. I haven’t painted oil in over 20 years and I can’t wait to start again. My husband died and I stopped painting but I’m now painting again yay!
People who want to learn and love your work of art will watch until the end . I know I do, I sit for hours and watching all sorts of art. Don't even think about the the time ,but the once I watch are normally 1/2 hour to 1 or 2 Hours.. thanks for posting Stuart.
As a new painter with a full life, I watch as I can, and often have more time in middle of night or early a.m. and am so grateful to all your sharings and offerings! Anything you have to share to improve the love and experience of others is certainly worthwhile, is it not? Lifting the joy of the whole community, whole planet, one grateful soul at a time: thank you, dear Stuart! You are a hero for this little old lady in Vermont, USA, just now learning to paint (after all these years without it) 💕💕💕 thank you!!! 🌈🌈
Time! What's time exactly? I don't measure the time when I'm watching you paint Stuart, because I'm too absorbed. Go with what ever you feel at the moment. Cheers 👍
Mr. Davies your passive & informative teaching almost erodes the passage of time, where the viewer becomes almost lost within your creative endeavours. Its a moment of sheer pleasure, to watch your mesmerising techniques appear on the canvas.
I enjoy your longer videos that go into story and detail. I've come to very much enjoy the simple yet technically beautiful landscapes you create and find myself enjoying recreating them in my version. Thank you
I personally like the long videos. People with a short attention span can always go to settings at the bottom and speed them up, but then they would miss your relaxing voice and reasoning. Love your reference to dear old Bob, bless him.
In 60 years of painting Mr. Davies is the best teacher in the classroom or on the web I have ever encountered. For that reason I am pleased to be a patron of his.
I agree with Dianne...real time is cool and your explanations as to why you do things intrigue me. "Stay calm, you can always fix it! I'm going to get a tea! Have fun!
Yes, Stuart please just be yourself 🖌️🎨 whatever time you need it will be it will be just fine..Rather you just be yourself Often I look at what the time I have + look for teaching which fits. Prefer time -visually paint with you - teach + repeat I'm exceedingly grateful! (For me, your casual 'slop it on' really frees me &--just the ticket. Great stuff kiddo!!!😊
I enjoy the longer videos because I get hints from your conversation as I watch your brush work. There are times when i have to leave to walk the dog or whatever, but I save the video so that I can come back and listen as I watch. I've learned a great deal since i started watching your videos and applying your ideas to my own work. I've just begun painting, and I'm working with Acrylics because it dries quickly and is easy to work with using only water. BUT I've still learned so much of technique and attitude. Thank you so very much for each/all of your videos on You Tube.
I watch the video, a thought comes to me, I stop, write my thought, continue watching, etc. until I reach the end of the video and finally the entire comment. I still prefer long videos, because 8-10 minutes is still a very short time, so I enjoy long videos. Those who quickly jump in and out are just ordinary internet surfers. It's just so amazing how the clouds come to life when they swipe and they become so real. It's absolutely fantastic how the texture comes out in the landscape with a few strokes. Just as there is charm in simplicity, so is this landscape. Oh, how wonderful, thank you so much!
To be honest sir.... The time doesn't matter matey. It's all about the enjoyment on behalf of both parties. I personally watch all of your videos from start to finish. Usually more than once or twice. The first time to be amazed and for pure enjoyment and the subsequent times for trying to absorb the knowledge casually delivered in a very special and unique way. You are a fantastic teacher. Thank you for what you do as it is priceless.
I Love the long videos! It’s like going to an art class, only better because it’s like have a personal instructor-I even stop it and paint along and try techniques-I’m a beginner so I’m learning-besides it’s so calming! Many thanks! In these times, it’s most welcome. K
I love your long format. And listening to you while I work on my own art. Your voice puts me in a zen state… You also remind me of my grandpa who died 15 years ago, so the touch of nostalgia pulls me in. The longer the video the better. Not everyone is your audience, just do what you’re doing, you have 148k people who loved you and what you’re doing enough to subscribe.
I do agree with your watchers, don't worry about the time factors. A good painting takes time to do. Rushing never achieved anything. You are always enjoyable to learn from. Many Blessings to you. Sincerely Annette Queensland Australia.
I don't care how loooong you videos are! It's riveting to listen and watch. You wave your arm and a distant hill appears, another wave and a storm cloud forms...it's pure magic: call me crazy, but I always get excited when the crumpled paper comes out to play!!! Anyway, I'm an ''I've started so I'll finish'' kind of girl so just be you and paint as long, short, big, small as your heart and mood dictates. Thank you for everything you do! 👍👍👍
I enjoy the long tutorial Mr. Stuart, excellent work and how you glide through the painting and descriptive comments. Please keep up the great teachings. Stay Safe and Thank You.
Never a dull moment watching you paint, Stuart! Thanks again for an engrossing and very imformational and inspirational video. Your time sharing with your audience is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! You are a master painter!
I watch your videos from beginning to end. There have been times where you thank the viewers who are still still with you, I usually chuckle to myself saying, “I’m still here wild ya!”
Thank you dear Mr. Davies I don't find your tutorial very long, in principle not long enough. thank you for painting with simple Brush strokes and with ease the illusion of wonderful places can be. it fascinates me always again. Marko.
Some come and think they have what they want from your video after 10-15 minutes or so and move on. Others will watch the whole way through to get maximum learning seeing the full process. Continue with long videos and everyone is suited. Keep up the great teaching Stuart. Appreciate your generosity.
Stuart thank you so much for your videos. I am one of your viewers who watches to the end! And yesterday I painted my first oil painting for years while watching. I’ve been frustrated and searching for that looseness and freedom for a long time and you’ve given it to me and helped me start up with my painting again! So once again thank you!
Thanks! How will we know when the next segment is coming out? Normally I just got a notice that something you have done is available. Wonderful thank you for your extraordinary teaching ability and wonderful landscapes.😊
I had a professor who always said "the indication of detail is more powerful than actual detail." That always stuck with me as being rather profound, and I've thought that what he was getting at has to do with what you were talking about here: that our brains simplify what we see and try to make sense of the compressed information. So there's no point in painting every branch and leaf on a tree because nobody's going to see that you painted every one by hand unless they're silly enough to try to look for it. In my opinion, all the most powerful art I've ever seen, regardless of medium, seems to understand this and is as simple as possible while still being very clear as to what the subject is. You seem to understand this very well and it's one of the reasons why I love your paintings, but is even more why I love to watch you paint.
Stuart the long form content is what people want. UA-cam stats are skewed because of people with short attentions spans who have to jump from video to video. Long videos where you just talk and paint are absolutely amazing and very informative. People who really like your videos have no problem watching an hour long video
Sometimes I focus a lot on what you're doing and other times I just paint whatever I happen to be painting and get a lot of comfort from your relaxed attitude towards painting (in the background) and it helps me relax. Thank you!
Aspiring painters will watch all the teaching you have to offer Stuart. Please don't change to "sound bite" videos. Your informed and erudite tutorials are very much appreciated. Your sky technique is excellent and I have used it to good effect in my own efforts. Thank you!
I enjoy watching the whole painting process with your awesome narration :) very beautiful clouds, as always outstanding artwork :) have a beautiful, happy day
I appreciate your videos so much Mr.Davies, thank you for sharing your gift with us 🙏 Your incredibly kind and calming voice and reassuring words are another bonus.
I too agree, I much prefer real time, each detail, each nuance is so important and it makes a wonderful experience, watching from beginning to end.... now for part 2!!!!! lol Thank you Stuart for taking the time to do these videos :)
Hi Stuart, Please don't change your time scale .The normal way you do your painting time is perfect. You give a great deal of information with the tutorial. You are by far the best real time artists out there. Love watching your work and explication of the work you do. Brilliant and sometimes very funny. Haaaa😊 Sometimes some people are on the way to work and don't have enough time to watch it all at once ..So as someone else commented some people are just browsing through. Really enjoy listening and enjoy your art tutorial. Keep up educated and keep us laughing. 😊
Loooooooong videos. Watching you and your magic brushes are wonderful. You asked which videos we preferred, long or short , long for sure. Watching every brushstroke when it’s done it’s work tells me I too can do that. I will keep watching. Oooooooh here comes the white..... Hello Stuart from the USA, California. By golly that’s blue isn’t it. To see you paint sky’s....they move, they really do. A grin on my face for sure. Please take care, DONNA
I love love love your videos. I like longer videos that show colors and materials that you use. I like the free style that you have and the movement in your work. I don’t want to spend two years on a painting. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. 💙
Your technique and tonal style turn these videos into performance art. From a blank a picture emerges in an hour or so. Witnessing the work emerge is instructional and surprisingly entertaining. Never would’ve thought watching a painter could be entertaining. Your process is captivating.
Just discovered this channel and what a great find it is. You are truly The David Attenborough of the art world. Could watch these 24/7. Not only is it so informative but it is great to just watch. I think if you're not even an artist you could just watch it and enjoy it. Thanks for the time you put into it. It is greatly appreciated.
Hello Mr. Stuart 😊 LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! your style of painting. All of them are masterpieces to me. Specifically because you paint imaginary landscapes and that is amazing. I like the way you explain things and teaching technique. Thank you for your painting lesson videos. Stay safe.
Thank you for your fantastic instructive videos Stuart. Long ones are the best for those of us who really want to learn how to paint in your stile. It gives insight in how it is done and the thought behind every brush stoke taken. (The hows and whys) God Bless.
Thanks you have me painting again..IAM disabled but my mind still controls my limbs....you have my mind involved again...God Bless...John...Cohutta, Ga.Usa
I like the long videos - you don't have to skimp on the details or instructions, and I can always fast forward or zone out during the spots I may not be interested in. Either way, thanks for sharing! I Love your art work!
People who watch for 8 - 10 minutes are probably just browsing. People who paint stay with you for as long as it takes because you are a great inspiration. 😊
well said, You bless us with not only Your talents on canvas but with Your gift to teach as well...I gave no mind to the duration of the video, it is as it will be and those whom take the time, the contents, the offering for granted can go grab a coloring book and some crayons..maybe eat some glue and sniff some markers lol thank you Stuart, much obliged
I've enjoyed your painting and learn a lot from your conversation. Your explanations are humble and very direct. Thank you. Sandra G. Montevideo, Uruguay
I'm gonna paint for the first time.. I'm gonna do now I've literally watched 20+ hrs of your videos. Your the best and Im ready to give it a go. Thanks for the great videos mate! 👍
Hi Stuart. I have just found your channel and really loved your video on how to paint clouds. Can’t wait to try your way of painting them. Your explanations are also great and clear. Please keep your long videos so I can paint along with you. Looking forward to seeing more. Take care.
It is always enjoyable and informative to watch you paint Stuart and I don't even paint yet myself. I will eventually but for now I enjoy watching someone more experienced and knowledgeable. You are one of those people who has some ability to teach others and to give clear instructions for anyone to follow along with but you do it with your own style and not Bob Ross, even though I can see what they are getting at. Thank you for the videos, I usually watch them right before bed because I find them relaxing hehe.
More detail work i can see the better! I am a visual learner and someone literally has to hold my hand for me to get it. So if you show a painting step by step i learn better. thank you for sharing your skills and time.
I like your real-time paintings from start to finish. I also like you repeating important tips to us. It may take 10 times of hearing something before it clicks. So keep posting these videos and keep talking even if you constantly repeat yourself. It really helps.
I’m crazy for your painting! The style allows my imagination to see details, without-as you say-being fiddly. Your commentary is loaded with morsels like, “Clouds as usual off the edge,” that I’m greedily gobbling up. As a novice I’m filled with the excitement of hope that I too can do this! Thank you so much.
I agree. Don’t worry about the time. I love watching in real time, as opposed to a sped up piece. Thanks so much!
Agree

Excellent Stuart!!
Thank you from Gozo, Malta.
This is the best demonstration I’ve seen. You just get on with it and so informative. So pleased I’ve found your tutorials
Thank you so much!
Entirely agree.
You give so many helpful insights and practical advice..
Really appreciate it..
Letting go of every worry, and just create, have fun!!

Your sense of humour is as good as your art. I was a graphic designer so I think that is why I relate so much to your style.
Wow, thank you!
Stuart, you are one of the few artists on youtube I always watch from beginning to end! Most of the others. I just fast forward through them (they take sooo long to get to the point!). Don't worry about it! Your videos are very easy to watch, and informative. Thank you!
Just press record... I could watch and learn all day Stuart. Thank you
Wow, Stuart. I prefer watching you than regular tv.
I love to learn.

Now I’m in the field and anticipating a wind storm headed my way. Thank you.
Me either. Don't measure time while watching.
Thank you

Stay safe.
Take all the time you need. Those of us that time in , love watching you paint.. thank you from America.🤗👍
Thank you for your fantastic instructive videos Stuart. Long ones are the best for those of us who really want to learn how to paint in your stile. It gives insight in how it is done and the thought behind every brush stoke taken. (The hows and whys) God Bless.
Thankyou very much for your brilliant tutoring and sharing nature. Your work is truly great! (from South Africa)
I watch anything and everything you post, regardless of length. I'm learning so much from you and I thank you. God bless.
Lovely painting and nice style of smoothing out the white in the sky...i really liked the painting... Thanks
Help! I can’t stop watching! Fascinating!
I agree with wanting them long and not sped up. And, your explanations are thorough and very helpful.
I prefer long videos in which you show all the process. They have helped me to paint. I revew them every time. Thank you.
Thanks you have me painting again..IAM disabled but my mind still controls my limbs....you have my mind involved again...God Bless...John...Cohutta, Ga.Usa
I love the long videos. 🥰
I like the long videos because you go into depth more and I learn something new each time.
I’d watch you painting any amount of time and then I will watch it again
I like the long videos - you don't have to skimp on the details or instructions, and I can always fast forward or zone out during the spots I may not be interested in. Either way, thanks for sharing! I Love your art work!
Glad you like them!
People who watch for 8 - 10 minutes are probably just browsing. People who paint stay with you for as long as it takes because you are a great inspiration. 😊
I'm actually good for an hour with a great artist and stimulating subject lessons. You are amazing at both! Thank you!
Don't worry about those of short retention. Just keep doing what you are doing, it's much appreciated.
Thanks, will do!
well said, You bless us with not only Your talents on canvas but with Your gift to teach as well...I gave no mind to the duration of the video, it is as it will be and those whom take the time, the contents, the offering for granted can go grab a coloring book and some crayons..maybe eat some glue and sniff some markers lol thank you Stuart, much obliged
I love how your videos are just you start to finish without cuts.
I've enjoyed your painting and learn a lot from your conversation. Your explanations are humble and very direct. Thank you.

I’m working my way through watching all of your videos some more than once, all the way to the end, you sir are an inspiration.
I appreciate that. Thank you!
So relaxing and beautiful! Looking forward to part 2! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Never too long. The content is riveting. If some people are only watching 8 - 10 minutes, they are not your people.
I'm gonna paint for the first time.. I'm gonna do now I've literally watched 20+ hrs of your videos. Your the best and Im ready to give it a go. Thanks for the great videos mate! 👍
That is awesome!
Deakin McGinn Come back and tell us all how it went.
Hi Stuart. I have just found your channel and really loved your video on how to paint clouds. Can’t wait to try your way of painting them. Your explanations are also great and clear. Please keep your long videos so I can paint along with you. Looking forward to seeing more. Take care.
Thank you so much , Stuart for showing your entire process and thoughts of wisdom.
I like to learn. I can't learn anything worth while in 10 minutes. I like that you started painting with out explaining before starting.
Long Videos. About 1 hour is perfect.
Thank you! Cheers!
