Race has absolutely NOTHING to do with this but I have been cooking behind you for years. I am a Melanated American and my Grandmother raised me until she died. You make alot of those recipes. The canning and gardening, just makes me cry and your biscuits. When I went to live with my Mother, after Granny passed away, I just could not eat her Food. She just could not cook to me. I always said, Granny did not put that in it or make it that way. She was very irritated at me. I promised myself that I was Going to cook like her. Your cooking reminds me so much of her.
I don’t know what “melanated” means but you’re right, race has nothing to do with it. Our grandmothers who were raced in the old ways, cooking, gardening and caring for their homes will be similar in many ways. I have followed a lot of different kinds of people and relate to many, many of them!
@journeydodge5812 - you were blessed to have been raised by a southern grandmother. Ms Lori cooks like my people in North Carolina. And, I cook that way, too. I’m sorry you feel sad when you think of your grandmother and all the good food she provided. But, here’s the good news: all those good things she cooked are embedded in your brain somewhere. And, it’s just a matter of being with a wonderful cook like Ms Lori to bring that cooking sense to the forefront of your mind. I have no doubt that you already know more than you think about her cooking. I know you will be very successful at cooking and provide your family with a little piece of heaven! Blessings always, my sister. ♥️🙏🏼♥️
Merry Christmas friend!🎄Lori your haircut is just gorgeous, it really suits you! Thanks for all the inspiration you share, you’ll never know how much I appreciate your channel & postings. God Bless you and your family during this season of celebration of our Lord! Happy New Year 🎉
I love rice so much that I’m happy with a big bowl of rice with butter and salt for my entire meal. (I’m the same way with a baked potato). I intend to give this a try, it looks delicious.
I love making rice like that. When kids were young I would do the same thing but use a box of Rice a Roni plus a cup of jasmine rice I loved toasting garlic as well. Such a great side dish. Yummy! Karla in Cali.
I made your yellow onion rice side dish. It turned out delicious. I used turkey broth, chopped turkey and added some chives for color. My husband said it was the best rice dish that he has eaten. THANK YOU
Thank you for making a shorter informative post. Many are too long and I don't have the time to watch 30 minutes or longer posts. This rice looks great
I'll certainly try this! My daughter is crazy over rice and I'm sure she'll love your recipe. Merry Christmas and a blessed holiday season to you, Mr. Brown and all your family.
This looks so good I've decided to fix it for supper this evening. Thank you for the tutorial. So easy and I'm sure it tastes great with all of those caramelized onions. Looking forward to it.
It is fascinating how where or with whom we were raised by changes how we make a simple staple like rice. My Mom was born and raised in Hawaii so she made rice plain to be the bed of an Asian, Portuguese or Hawaiian dish. I didn't use rice as a separate side dish until I married. This looks tasty enough not to be smothered in soy or teriyaki sauce. Thank you and Merry Christmas, Mrs. Lori!
I am so excited about this recipe! I absolutely LOVE my rice, too! The only other recipe I have for rice (besides plain) is a jalapeno-onion rice my sister created. It's not hot. It just has a good jalapeno flavor and other things. Sooo good!!
@@brendahorn8843 ½ medium onion, diced 2 jalapenos, diced Saute in 2-3 tbs butter. Add 1 cup rice and saute til just lightly toasted. Add 2 cups chicken broth. Bring to boil. Cover and turn to simmer on low head 20-25 minutes.
@@robinaubenque9827 I thought I posted it back to Ms. Lori but it doesn't look like it. Oops! No telling where I put it, but here it is again. ½ medium onion, diced 2 jalapenos, diced Saute in 2-3 tbs butter. Add 1 cup rice and saute til just lightly toasted. Add 2 cups chicken broth. Bring to boil. Cover and simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes.
Turmeric is good to fight arthritis. I have it in my fingers and the cold weather was very painful but since taking Turmeric everyday (I buy it in the vitamin section and it's a capsule)and when possible I have it to cook with in my spices.
That looks great! I’m all about new side dishes. I make a chicken marinaded with butter milk, garlic and rosemary. This would be excellent with the grilled chicken skewers.
I love rice! Rice is so very versatile! I do mine with mushrooms and baby bok choy and onions. Sometimes I throw in peas and any leftover meat or tofu. Brown rice - timing is a bit different with timing. Thanks for a great video reminding me how simple things can be
Thanks! I am making a whole ham for Christmas and think I will make this lovely rice as an added side choice. Sounds so Wonderful! Thanks for all you do and blessings to you and your.
I have done something similar, use the butter, and the onions...salt pepper, but, have not tried the tumeric...will have to try it, ps. I make all my rice the same way, start out with the butter, cook the rice a bit....but, i use 1 cp. rice, to 11/2 cps liquid, chicken , beef, ect. I started doing this after learning to make mexican rice....mine always comes out fluffy...and dry...I used to make rice, that was mushy...using the recipe on the box...great recipe....thanks .....I am also from Texas...
Lori, this recipe made my mind fly back 40yrs. Remembering a friend from Korea. She was so sweet and a very good cook. She made rice very similar to yours. Thank you for reminding me of her. Love, Cee 💚💚💚🎄🎄🎄
