I love Pralines. My grandma used to use it as cake icing on chocolate cakes. The trick was to pour it onto the cake just as it started to lose its shine after you stopped stringing it. Your techniques make the process easier than my old way of making these.
Love pralines. Your recipe looks great, wonderful tips seem really helpful. But what really touched me were your memories of grocery shopping as a young mother. It was challenging, but we figured it out⭐️
So fun to watch the very particular full process and those were fresh-shelled pecans! I can see why your relatives love this yummy candy which has become a tradition in your family! Always great hearing the stories from back in the day!
I used to add a new kind every year, I took over making the fudge in the family after my grandma no longer could. I have never used a therm.Maple was one of my favorite newer ones along with amaretto, pumpkin is good as well.
I always love the recipes you make that stir (excuse the pun) memories. My grandmother made divinity. My recollections are 1. It took time, 2. the weather had to be right, and 3. they were VERY special. Thank you for the memory. They are always special to me. 🥰
@@AmynAL My Nanny made Divinity. The weather was a big factor. Nanny saved Russell Stover candy boxes and put the Divinity in those boxes. I have never made it, but I don't have a Russell Stover box! They just wouldn't be the same! 😬😊🤣
@ What a wonderful idea! Your Nanny was very clever. My Nanny (yes!) was a lovely southern lady and I miss her very much. Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a safe and blessed New Year. ☺️
I love the way y'all talk to each other. It's so familiar to me, because that was the way my family talked, too. ( Yes, we say "big spoons", too.) Now there's just me and my sister, because the younger generation doesn't talk like we do. Those pralines look delicious, Tipper, but I think they may be too hard for this old lady to make. I sure enjoyed watching you make them, though.
Thank you for this video. I love pralines, going to try this one for sure. I'm also making fudge for the 1st time. I got a laser gun themomiter to use. Sending prayers and blessings for No C. flood victims. Samaritans purse is my go to donation organization. They do such good work. My church just put together to ship 1040 Christmas shoe boxes this year; we were able to fit in a soccer ball and pump, so cool for these deserving kiddos. Tipper, you are amazing, no need to desparage yourself!!
@colleen4574 Putting together & filling all those shoe boxes was a beautiful accomplishment, I can tell, a true labor of love. May God Bless you all for each of those Christmas 1040 shoe boxes, the soccer ball & pump. Some precious children are going to be very happy. I'm very familiar with Samaritan's Purse & they are honest and trustworthy. May God Bless you one & all. Your comment brought tears to my eyes ❤️🎄🙏🏻
My mom's special Christmas candy was Sour Cream Black Walnut Fudge. It's the only kind of fudge I like and I made it just once when I had her help. She's gone now and I really want to try it again and get to where I can do it. She taught me soft ball and hard ball stages but Candy has always intimidated me.
I used to make carmel candy for my grandpa every Christmas. He had a sweet tooth for sure. I think I will try your praline recipe this weekend. They look yummy 😋
@lindalesniak6671 Hi Carmels: 1/2 c butter, 2c white sugar, 1c corn syrup, 1/2 teaspoon salt. Melt on med heat. Stirring bring to boil 5 min. Drizzle 1 can evaporated milk in and bring back to boil, Stirring constantly until 238 degrees ( softball stage) take off heat add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Pour into a buttered 8x8 pan. Cool 4 hours and cut. Enjoy

I definitely want to make these this year! So far this week I have made fudge and microwave peanut brittle. I want to also make some chocolate covered peanut clusters. Merry Christmas to all of you!
Wow!!! I have never made nor had a praline. These are so fantastic!! Thank you for the recipe. It is now in my special recipe file. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family.
My mom made these every year along with divinity. My mom would get a huge bushel of pecans for her holiday candy making and baking. It was my job to crack and shell the pecans. She had this metal nut cracker that screwed on to this big bench she had on the porch that my dad had painted green. I hated having to do it but knowing there would be pralines kept me motivated. You always conjure up so many fond memories for me. ❤
@@CelebratingAppalachia She also would buy a bushel of walnuts. I like watching you because like her and the rest of the family everything was fresh and homegrown. To this day I cannot use packaged or canned foods. I literally feel guilty.
Another great video for the holidays love eating candy and cookies alongside my grandkids and homemade is the best thanks for sharing Tipper and Matt 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🎇🎆🎄🎄🎄
Nice brown things. I've had them once, very good. I'd never make them don't make real candy. Very kind of you to spend the time making them. Lot of work. Merry Christmas from Oregon.
That’s funny you bringing up fondue my daughter just last week brought that subject up about doing the fondue my daughter is your age ( Tipper ) and she remembers when I would set up the coffee table with Table linen and all the fixings for Fondue the beef the cheese the chocolate fruits veggies and the whole family would set on the floor around the table and enjoy it , was such a treat and lm glad she remembered that when you said you didn’t know about fondue till you were in high school I thought the Appalachia people are behind on the times
Looks delicious, I broke up pecan halves today, almost all of them made halves. ❤❤ Give Ira and Woody and Granny a hug from me. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourselves.

OMGOSH Tipper!!, these pralines look beautiful ❤ My parent’s loved them and the only time they could ever get/have them was when they drove South, to Florida, vacationing. Had I known or found a recipe like yours, I could have made them for them. Of course, this was way before internet, UA-cam and podcasting. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Yours look delicious!! 💕🙏🙏
Thank You for that recipe. Just got done,I think I pulled it off the first time if this sweat rolling off me doesn’t affect it. I was following along with my candy as you were cooking. A little off in sequence but it looks like will set up good. I know one thing it tastes Devine! My mom was the candy master in our family, unfortunately I didn’t pay attention or realize how important her instructions were. Hope y’all have the best Christmas and you should with that new little one.

Hi Tipper, I've watched you make pralines before and each time I really like it when you are stirring it while it's coming to the right temp. Don't ask me why, but I really like that sound. It's the small things in life. I'll have to make them this year. I'm glad I have your cookbook. Have fun at the Presleys. I wish you could get a video of Papaw Tony. Something to aim for in the new year. Love yall
