The bins are still great for resellers. Many times it’s stuff goodwill has not gone through. We are able to get nice items by the pound and sell online at a reasonable price to people who need or want the items. We can sell them cheaper because we didn’t pay much buying by the pound. We have found so many new with tags career wear items. And nice children s clothes. Plus I get most of my clothes while digging at the bins.

People complaining they can't resale items for a higher price is also making things unaffordable for people who would not have the opportunity to buy it at a lower price. People who buy this to resale are just a scummy as the Corp itself. I see no difference, both are trying to maximize profit.

For a long time, I thought it was terrible that the Goodwill charges so much for things that have been donated, and on top of that wanting you to round up!! I especially noticed when prices went up during and after covid. And that was when they stopped letting people use the restroom. And also stopped letting people use the dressing rooms. I feel that prices should be going lower now, because of inflation everywhere else. 4 years ago, after my sister passed away, and we cleaned out her apartment, her daughter-in-law said don't give all the stuff to the goodwill, because the owner is very wealthy! So fortunately we have another thrift store in town, and that's where everything went. :-)

I was at Goodwill when a family from our community house had burned totally down. They were given a voucher for each person for $50.00 each. They brought up their selections and were told that some of the things they picked they were not able to get. The dad had gotten work boots and they said he couldn’t get them.

Resellers have helped the goodwill raise prices, they have mgr. watching shows to educate what is hot & desirable on market and mark it up. Because stores get bonus for who sells most. 15 years ago they started pulling any oil painting, antiques, by sight. Then they got scan machine that identifies item and prices it., also snap shot everything that comes in. Use to buy junk jar jewerly for 6.-8.00 then 20..30. now they keep it all and sell in bulk. They take advantage of everything and everyone that crosses their path. Please give to veterans store or animal thrift. You never tell where your honey pot is.

I shopped Goodwill a few times when it first came to town and wasn't impressed. Yes, you can find something worthwhile every now and then but far more difficult than the others which have also gotten more difficult but still better. If something with enough value is there, it gets pulled before getting to the store shelves.
As listing items has gotten more difficult in making a final sale, just not enough incentive to go out of my way to go on a consistent basis. For those in which it pays off, keep going for it.

You can make those jewelry stands really cheap. I use paper towel cardboard and thrifted material and decorative paper . An I use wood or candle stick holders to be the support at the bottom. It takes a little time but they can be cute jewelry holders plus you could sell them in the booth.

Most of the big thrift stores in the Philadelphia area have been separating out any "good stuff" for years. Some goes online, some they put in glass cases to sell by silent auction or at premium prices. I still go to the Goodwill outlet sometimes, where they sell by the pound stuff that didn't sell on the shelves in the regular stores. Stuff on the shelves I've seen for equal or more than the original price it was sold at! I now go trashpicking instead.

The submarine. It appears to have been made by one of our US public shipyard. Typically made to commemorate either a public employee retirement or decommissioning of the ship. They usually never have any markings but they sometime have a plaque for the person retiring. That Btw is a Benjamin Franklin Class submarine (predecessor to the Los Angeles class attack submarine) that was decommissioned in the early 2000's.

Large chain stores throw new items away that are perfectly good. Dumpster divers sometimes get nice hauls, however these stores have begun to damage the items so no one can use them. Goodwill has to raise prices along with every other store to keep profit margins up otherwise they would go out of business. I stopped shopping thrift when I overheard a manager discussing a bed bug problem with staff. Scared me retail.

  • @adoptacat2877

I was doing a lot of shopping on the goodwill online store and after many purchases I stopped because their prices are so high for everything they sell and you still have to pay for shipping and handling. Then if something does not fit you can’t even return anything. I see that they still have no problem selling their high priced used items online because they sell everything they put online. I got tired of the over pricing.

I rarely shop goodwill anymore. When I saw them selling stained tshirts for $5, i was mad. Now our St Vincent de Paul has gotten quite expensive too. Recently shopped for suit , shirt, shoes, and a tie for my son to wear to his grandmother's funeral. Thru at least 4 thrift stores we assembled an outfit for about $50. Not bad. But on a rainy day, we found out they stopped giving out plastic bags and had none for purchase near register. That was the final straw.

I haven't seen a jewelry bag in an Ill Will in years, and one worth the money in even longer. One store has recently made items only, i.e. stuff I wouldn't pay ten cents for. No golf clubs at all. The art is Target and Wal-mart leftovers. If I spend $10 in a Goodwill, it's in a good month. We don't get the boxes or baggies; they're all sold separately.

Between goodwill taking what they want and resellers like this, the poor can no longer afford used things. That's a very sad thing. Someone like this goes in and buys everything worth anything to resell and leaves the poor with crap. Idk why this aggravates the heck outta me, but it does. Buy some amazon pallets to resell or something and leave the second hand to the poor. Especially right now when nobody can afford anything!!!

Plus in CA. everything they do put into their walk-in stores are overpriced. Gone are the days of you finding anything worth money in a thrift store and gone are the days that if you need cheap cloths you won’t get anything cheap at any thrift store.

The junk gets thrown out, and the high quality brand-name stuff gets sent off to be distributed to the migrants. Only the average stuff ends up in the stores.
