My son had a once in a lifetime find at a swap meet years ago. He was 8 years old. I gave him $5 to go buy whatever he could find. He came back with a handful of copper coins. Told me he found them in the bottom of someones box and paid $1 for them. They all turned out to be "Colonials" from the 13 colonies before the Revolution. Value came in at over 3K after sold.
That’s amazing! It’s great you get your son involved.
Amazing!
Great
Leave it to a kids to get the best deal! 😂
That’s awesome!
I do the same thing as you. I’ve been self employed since 1998 doing nothing but going to yard sales, auctions, estate sales etc picking and reselling. Make a VERY nice living. One of my best hits was an 1800’s railroad lantern I bought for 35.00 and it sold for $7,550.00. A couple pieces of art I’ve made a few thousand each on. A 1920’s Coke sign that had the original TV Tarzan and Jane on it I paid $300.00 it sold for a tick over $4,500.00. It’s so much fun to do this. I’ve been at it long enough I have people bring me stuff now to buy from them directly.
I bough a red 12” Fiesta vase from a widow estate sale for $75.00 and it sold for a little over $1,500.00 so I went back and gave the old lady an additional $500.00. She told all her old lady friends about it and I got to go look at a lot of other houses from that act of kindness.
Mind sharing where you sold the art? I'm sitting on some myself.
They are from Korea. We know of them as “Horse Passes” or “Ma-pay” (spelling may be wrong). Number of horses signified the rank of official, couriers to high ranking officials such as inspectors/spies. Original are dated (old!) and valuable, repro still $15-40 each. You have ALL FIVE! Most probably repro from us Vets that bought while stationed there and brought back. Good buy!
If I were selling these, I’d sell as a set and go high to start. But with little into them, WIN no matter where you go!
excellent info!!! thank thank thank you!!! Im guessing the really expensive one if an original one. yea i thought it was def a win with the huge set.
@@beardedthriftmachine We have something very similar in the UK that we call "horse Brasses", they are saddle and harness decorations. Really old horse brasses are worth a little bit but there have been so many reproductions over the years that ID'ing then is next to impossible for the layman, my guess these are the Asian version of that.
They are 100% souvenirs.
The real ones appear to be almost black due to the age and carrying around. And the horses were not this charming. The numbers of the horses on them show that they can use upto that many horses at any station they drop in. Ma-Pae
But yours are cool! ^^
Resell them and give the money to a vet or two
I can’t believe Kayla passed on the leather vest with the gun shot hole! That would be a selling point with some potential buyers.😆
LOl I know right! bullet hole biker vest slightly used =) lol
Haha..I was curious she passed it up too lol.
Could put a Harley patch right over that hole if you didn't want.
@@lh5677 omg i swear I just thought the exact same thing. But a $10 Harley patch sew it on and sell the best for $75
Lol
I want the birdie needle point Baaaaad!!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!
This is my 4th comment and YT removes them
Awesome score on the medallions! So fun to imagine if they are indeed real antiques while learning about their history. If they are reproductions, you'll still profit well above what you paid for them 👌
but you left the Shake Weight behind! Lol
You missed that beautiful bird crewel picture!! I about died! 😳💕
i know i actually looked at it and in my brain was like this looks nice =)
Omg I thought the same that was beautiful 😍 would have gone for a decent amount too.
IKR
Yes, I would’ve bought that for sure, even just to display.
I had a once in a lifetime yard sale find over forty years ago. I was at a garage sale looking at a box of costume jewellery, I checked several strings of pearls by rubbing them on my teeth. One felt scratchy! I put the string back in the box and said "how much for the whole box?" I paid five bucks! When I got home, close inspection revealed two pearl necklaces, a hand carved cameo set in gold with pearls and a pair of gold wedding bands! I sold the gold rings for cash later that day at a pawn shop, using some of the money to restring and clean the pearls witch I sold on consignment at a local jewellery shop for big bucks. The cameo I sent to Mom for mothers day.
that is an awesome story!!! thats why i looove yard sales! I just taught my parents the pearl on the teeth trick =)
Wow! How do people not know how valuable the they're selling!? Lol
@@americanmona It was forty plus years ago, but I will never forget the nice lady that sold me the jewellery box saying "These were mommas, she loved her gaudy jewellery, what are going to do with this?" I told her of the LARPing group I was involved in and how we needed prop jewellery. She was pleased that all this gaudy, mostly plastic junk would find a good home, she said she almost tossed it in the trash. (LARPing is live action role play, sorta like D&D but we dressed up and waved foam rubber swords at each other.)
@@bobhart677 interesting
@@americanmona because when it came from a deceased family member, EVERYONE. . .thinks oh thier fake she didn't have any money, always look closely it doesn't matter if the person lived on cat food, they still may have large sums of cash stashed, a friend of mine found 17k in cash in a shoebox & 3 more shoeboxes full of real jewelry, in a pile at the curb, in a lower middle class neighborhood
My once in a lifetime isn't that great but it's my greatest for now....We went to a sketchy yard sale that was a side of the house dig through piles of junk because the elderly couple couldn't drag it out front and I found a very clean pair of Michael Jordan's worth a couple hundred bucks......bought for $3.
I spoke with my wife who is from Korea. She stated that the medallions like those were used during the Joseon Dynasty several hundred years ago. They would have been given out by the king to his agents for identification. Most likely you have replicas, but they are still cool pieces.
thank you for that info
Very Fun ! ❤ so is Tiffany, Thrifting Vegas ❤
Thank you !!
The square green plastic sewing basket at 4:21 sells for $45 (vintage) and the crewell picture at 4:38 for $50+, too. And flint lighters at 4:43 usually do really well. The sterling candlesticks next to the lighter, also. Man, there's a lot of gems at this yard sale!! Is that a Southern-retiree thing people getting rid of all their treasures? I'd brave alligators, no problem
I was writing a book on the POW- MIA issue and I went to yard sales and thrift stores to buy books and magazines that I could use for research. I bought a book for $.35 cents and read it and got lots of good information, I was looking on a site for used books and saw the same book for sale. I put the book up for sale for $500, but settled on $400.
I also bought a complete set of Time-Life books on the Vietnam War for $8.00 and later sold the set for $60.00 with a couple other books.
I had a once in a lifetime fine at a yard sale I found a brand new in the box flat top stihl 066 Magnum chainsaw with a 32 and 36 bars and chains I paid $45 again brand new never used The saw is worth 1500 bucks today
DANG! thats an awesome find!!!!
Wow.
I was telling you to pick up the crewel embroidery wall hanging, but you didn't hear me! 😊
I yelled at him too! Great minds.
Blessings
Me too. That was a beautiful one too. He should have picked it up. Probably 50 plus on that and they sell well.
I was yelling out loud! 😂
You are always cracking me up “Please be a button there, please be a button there”😂😂 Oh also, that crewel or cross stitch(couldn’t get a good enough look) probably would have sold for $50 plus. I do well on those.
yea i was thinking Kat would have picked that thing up in a heart beat LOL
Yes, thought the same thing!
I love watching my fellow UA-camr / Reseller as I list some items. I appreciate learning what other are selling and I enjoyed the video. Not a bad day of sourcing and some good profit to be made! I am hitting that like button as we speak! 👍 👍 👍
thank you! i do the same thing while i list is watch youtube =)
The key to great garage / yard sale finds is to frequent only the affluent areas. Junk days for garbage pickup is like panning for gold. The only one to fight off is the garbage men who are behind you making their pick ups.
excellent idea
I love the free box which is often part of the garage sale experience. Once I came across a free box containing a batch of costume jewelry and I took it all. Combing thru it at home, I had scored a sterling silver necklace and what could have been Mr T's gold necklace. I sold that one for $600 and kept the silver one which I liked better.
Not entirely true at all. Been to plenty of sales in neighborhoods that aren’t ‘affluent’ and find plenty of good things. Middle to lower middle class sales can be very lucrative
I personally would have picked up those sterling candle holders that were next to the lighter you looked at.. But I’ve also been collecting precious metals for awhile now. Great haul either way 👍🏼
I did see those while editing the video - I looked right pass them. :(
@@beardedthriftmachine they looked like pewter
@@moonshadow4452 With the lack of tarnish that was on them and being that dull of a grey they would most definitely be pewter.
I don’t buy most of my sterling to scrap it. A lot of that stuff can be re sold for a profit if you get it cheap enough. The only sterling that I scrap and/or reuse are the plates and solid pieces. I also buy pewter and melt it down into tin bars to sell with lead for people who cast their own bullets and fishing weights.
I’ve picked up plenty of pewter and sterling pieces for cheap and made plenty of profit from them.
That Levi coat is really nice. I would have a hard time selling that!
i know right! If it was my size i probably would not LOL =)
The best day i had at a boot sale (im uk based )was when everyone packs up i found 12 bags of clothes 2 petrol lawn mowers and a large jewlry box and a mountain bike all freebies lol i sold the mountain bike for £ 50 the two mowers for £65 ran the clothes into a rag shop on the way home another £24 and went thru the jewlry box there was 5 gold necklass a couple of gold bangles a few silver items and a lot of vintage costume stuff after running in the gold and silver i made £168 that was a kool freebie day .
Wow!! that a great day!!! $5 gold necklaces i think i still havent found any gold items
The beer sack is a brewery that used to be in Milwaukee Wisconsin. That's where I live. My father in law used to work there. It's been gone for many years ✌️

Another great video this is like a college class for me learning other things besides tools
=) thanks leroy =) more like show and kinda tell and like the comments tell me what the stuff is LOL did you get your package\?
Where did you get the boxes for the golf clubs???
Awwwwww Kayla, I have that exact color lavender/purple beach cruiser. 😊
Yea we went to the Wal mart to price bikes and they are like $300!! so i was like nah we can find some at the sales lol =) some big yard sales this weekend
The brass things seem to be the token of the royal secret inspector in Chosun dynasty of Korea. The number of the horses on the token means how many horses the royal secret inspector could use for transportation while carrying out royal secret duties. If that tokens are not duplicates, those are real hits. Congratulations!
My Mpls neighborhood has a "Festival of Garage Sales" the first weekend in May every year. You can pay to have your sale listed by address on a map with a description of goods. Saturday is the big day, but some do Friday and hardly anyone does Sunday. Monday morning is garbage day and many people shove what didn't sell to the end of the driveway to get rid of it. Last year doing my Sunday afternoon "alley shopping" (which I do every week) I got a re-issued Stickley mission oak clock, a 12" h. pair of English porcelain vases, 3 table lamps, partial set of Czech kitchen pottery canisters, 2 crappy lamps for parts...all from one place! Free! I sold the clock- sells new for $499- for $225. ;)
They are horse/solider tags. Usually worn on inside of leg stirrups tied on with rawhide string on saddle. Or some are decorative worn on horse bridal. They way they are listed in number could be number given to horse when lined up for competition or even lined for wagons
thank you so much for that info =)
Superb again always learn so much on your channel big shout to you and Kayla ❤
Thanks so much! and thank you always for watching
Someone down below suggested ask Dr.Lori …. I guess you can if you want . It’s your channel . However I used to subscribe to her channel until I found her very disrespectful to a few if her viewers. I get that she’s extremely smart , I get it’s her channel as well, I also understand she’s a tell it kinda like it is person ( so am I , I generally like that ) however, then there is just rude and disrespectful. That is where she has taken her channel . I had to pack my stuff and leave. I don’t like watching folks getting belittled and degraded. Then I was very blessed and found your channel !! 🤩⭐️😍 you always impress me how very polite and nice you are with everyone. Now your teaching your girlfriend how to negotiate respectfully. I just really like and appreciate your channels flow and style !! Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much =) Yea and no need to ask her =) throughout the video last night people sent me what they were. Korean Horse passes - it was actually really cool what they are used for =)
thank you so much for the kind words and watching i really appreciated it
Horse Requisition Tokens or mapae, probably reproductions of originals from the Joseon Dynasty. The horse pass or mapae was issued to officials of the central government of Joseon when they were ordered to make an official trip to regional areas. It was a certificate that permitted the use of the government horses kept at the stations of transportation hubs around the country. One side of the horse pass usually has a certain number of horse heads representing the holder’s rank, and on the other the date of issuance and the seal of Sangseowon (Office of Seals and Badges), a government agency responsible for the passes.
thank you so much for that info! I agree they was most likely reproductions - looks the the real ones the tab on the tab is larger - how insane would it be if i did find real ones.
Honestly thought no one would know this

that what it seems they are the real ones are worth the mega money - these are looking like reproductions - if not i hit the lottery LOL

any items made in Japan?
Levi’s has lifetime guarantee on buttons and zippers. At least they used to. Brand new pair of jeans is the buttons or zippers break
i didnt know that!! =)
My best buys at garage sale - black cowboy boots , brand new $40 - a Honda scooter , running $150 - an original Teeter for back problems $20 - a 1978 Yamaha XS650 complete - not running $75.
Well I looked up those bass things and maybe they are Chinese officers medallions?? Kind of looked the same. Worth a try. Good luck 🍀
thank you for helping =)
Pretty cool. Never saw those before.
I love the Levi Cord/camel jacket. I’m 108 lbs but I’d buy it for $50 buck!! So nice! Great finds 🤗
I have a few schlitz things ..my grandma was a schlitz drinker . I remember her letting me open her beer and take a drink..i was around 4..5!! Lol
At 4:37 the Bird framed artwork, was it crewel or threaded art? If so that can be an EXCELLENT flip! No matter, as always You, Kayla and Pops, always strike great deals! 👍 Looking forward to what you find out with the Medallions!
I know right - Kat would have told me to pick that up LOL =) So far it looks like they are Korean Horse passes - if they were original mega moneys - these are most likely repos but still worth over $100 =)
Yes, I was crossing my fingers that he would grab it
I have a butterfly one my Mom made.
i wanted that needlepoint picture for myself. Even imagined where i would put it. funny
they are called Mapae
This horse pass, called mapae in Korean, was issued to the officials of the central government of Joseon when they were ordered to make an official trip to regional areas. It was a certificate that permitted the use of the government horses kept at the stations of transportation hubs around the country.
My best find was a loss. A friend gave me over 300 paper back books. I separated them by author/title genre. I had a complete set of Tarzan. A buyer offered $10 for the set. I said sure. He picked up the first book in the series and said, “Keep the rest. This one is a first edition.” He walked away smiling and I made $10.
At 11:44 is a an A-2 brown leather flight jacket that is just a great find
Korean things looked cool. Great finds again man.
Thanks 👍 Cayce
As usual another tremendous video it's like an addiction
thank you jack for always watching!
I wanted a purple bike too and I could only find an aqua color lol keep looking ❤😊
Oh, they shot me. LMAO!
LOL
No purple bike for Kayla. 😂
and the hunt continues LOL
Thanks for a great video.
thank you =)
Husband bought a box of books at auction for $1. Found a first edition that he sold for $600 later on eBay! I stopped at a yard sale that was over and they had put boxes of books on the curb marked ‘free’. I was thumbing through a few and found a couple hundred dollars cash!! I went to the door to give it back to the owners but the house was empty, the owners had moved out!
Korean Brass Inspection Tags for Horses used for commercial activities. Kind of like our taxi Inspection certification.
It may be cold in Wisconsin, but you won’t run across an alligator. 😉

yea I think that a fair price - padded flate rate =)
I would ask Dr. LORI V,SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING
What a fun find in these copper medallions, the writings on these medallions are all in Traditional Chinese. I have seen them with different years. These are indeed from a branch of the Korean government. However, this piece(5 horse) has a date mark that is using a Chinese emperor “Yongzheng” to date it. It says “Yongzheng 8th year, June. The day for June is blank. The others that I have seen have a definite day of the month. This Chinese emperor came to power in 1722 when his father died; this means 1722 is his 1st year in power. This medallion says “Yongzheng” 8th year, meaning 1730, if these were real. However, you should consult some Chinese or Korean experts on these most interesting medallions. Good luck.
Are the new USPS shipping up charges impacting your Golf Club sales ?
i switched to Ups and its about 10 to 15 a club so not too bad - the rest were way way higher
Are those wind chime pendants?

That would have been amazing pretty sure these are reproduction by the weight of them.
Check out the candle sticks. Gold and silver. Looked like em.

We have another channel called the flipzquad that goes over a lot of that - :)
They almost look like chimes! For a mobile!
I find great items all the time...my problem is selling the stuff...i need to learn the ebay selling ropes
Schlitz - the beer that made Milwaukee famous
They could possibly be some kind of wind chime
they are awesome postal horse medallions
The brass items look like the little weights used to hold balloons down but they are too big?
turns out they are Korean horse passes if they were real - literally would be insane money - these are most likely repops but still worth some money.
My Cantonese/Chinese mother says the medallions are an old official postal/messenger system insignia. Kinda an imperial stamp to show their authentic authority around the country. The number of horses indicates the level of authority/position/importance and the holes were used to string usually a ribbon through to tie to something or hold. The writing on the back is Qing dynasty and is an indication of date. In most oriental cultures they didn't have a numbered year but would write "This year of ***** emperor of **** dynasty" to mark the date.
If it's a knock-off for tourists it's just cool, but if you have a genuine article... *&^&%&%#@$@@%%^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And ALL FIVE?!?!?!?!!!
If you think it's worth it to drag to authenticate I would do so. (Can't feel, smell, look for little markers from the video, so...*shrug*) (A previously close family friend deals in Orient antiques and dropped a few pointers.)
thank you - i think these are not real do to the wieght - the other ones are suppose to be heavier but the real ones are insane

If you haven’t heard, they are Chinese messenger titles. These were given to the messenger going to report to the King. 1=top guy, general. 2-slightly less rank. 3-lesser rank from 1 & 2. 4 is usually a death sentence. When something goes really wrong; reporting this to the King means death. So, that’s why 4 is considered bad luck. Usually when these are made; the 4 talon is skipped. So, these must be modern. 5-is usually a very low rank but can’t send him with apologies to the King on things going wrong. So, 4 was the unlucky winner.
I'd definitely check with George.. they look like something I've seen, but????
yea I was going to reach out if i didnt find info after the video - he would def know =)

Your things with horses on them. Take a picture of each one of those so-called coasters, copy the translation like English to Spanish and when it translates it to English, it'll tell you what that means. Then you can go from there. I have done it before.
