    2 eggs
    1 can sweetened condensed milk
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg (grated is best)
1 tsp ginger (grated is best)
    1 Deep Dish pie crust
    Pyrex Pie Plate: amzn.to/2NRxAbM
Hamilton Beach 12 cup Food Processor: amzn.to/3560U3W

Recently my dad was unhappy that I had grown a pumpkin patch which had taken over most of the garden. However, after I made him some of this pumpkin pie he keeps asking when I'll make the next one 😀 thanks for changing my dad's mind about these pumpkins! I've been sharing this recipe with friends while giving away my pumpkins. Absolutely delicious!

Out of all the videos I’ve watched about making pumpkin pie from actual pumpkins, this is by far the best and easiest to follow. Well done, I’m going to give this a try.

Thanks Gardener Scott! By the way, another reason to roast pumpkin vs boil or steam is that roasting does not add water to the puree and boiling/steaming will.

Last year I grew some sugar pumpkins. I didn't really know what to do with them, so I washed them, peeled them, chopped them into chunks, and steamed them until fork tender. Then I mashed them measured out 2 cup portions, and froze it all in plastic bags. The puree was SO sweet. I made pumpkin bread, and it was awesome!👍🏻

I add pumpkin to the egg mixture when making french toast. Now when I make french toast, my sons always ask if it has pumpkin. If not, they don't get excited for the french toast.

I made this years ago it came out great. I bought a small sugar pumpkin from Whole Foods Market. I did not use condensed milk, I remember using sugar, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla exract, ground cloves, and possibly ground nutmeg. It was great back then. I should try again.

Last year grew some Carolina Field pumpkins and made some pies which were ok but know what you mean by the strings and moisture. I was a little worried about no sugars in your recipe but WOW your right about the sugar content in these little guy’s and with the sweetened condensed milk what a home . Thank you for such a awesome video and recipe.

Gardener Scott - How do you tell for sure if the pumpkins are ripe? First time I’ve grown them.

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  5 років тому +3

First, the color should change to orange or yellow. The outer skin should be firm; if you poke with your thumbnail it won't cut into the pumpkin. The stem should turn from green to brown. If you thump it, it sounds hollow (this takes practice to figure out).

@@GardenerScott Thanks, the instructions and the pies were really good. This year my tomatoes, Parks Whoppers and Beefmasters, did very well. Everything else was a bit of a disappointment. Corn(Peaches and Cream) was just so so, watermelons (Florida Giant, Jubilee, and Crimson sweet) were barely edible, pumpkins (Mammoth Gold and Jack O Lantern) almost brought me to tears as the plants died one after another, and my fig bush still hasn't given a fig. I plan to try a new spot for the plants next year. Has to be well fenced, we have deer in the yard every day.
