I've had 3 yard dogs they all ran weird except for 1 i replaced the cylinder and piston and rings on 1 because I broke a exhaust bolt and the 1 I replaced it with ran great that's the difference between casting cylinders and injection molded cylinders like the 80 cc but you did a outstanding job sounds awesome brother ride safe
Thanks, it performed very well. It’s ashamed how bad the quality is for the yd100 now because I got one way back when they were new and now the molds they use to pour in are so worn out that all the measurements are so outta wack that anyone buying one of these “new” yd100s are just getting junk. Cause my first one was great and a few a year later but now it’s been almost four years and the molds are just horrible and producing trash. Feel bad for people that see “100cc” and think it will work well. Honestly the only option to get a decent motor for stock is to get an injected mold motor (which is a definite anymore either) or you have to buy whatever motor is the newest thing out. Like the phantom or the avenger cause the molds are still new. I give the phantom about another year and the same kinda stuff will be happening.

I assembled 3 bikes several years ago ( one at a time ) .
I really enjoyed learning about them . I even considered selling them to the public . They did have one guy in town doing exactly that . I had several people approach me and they all told me sad stories about the craftsmanship of their bikes throwing chains . ( Bear in mind i knew the guy selling them to the public )
I would ask them if they bought a hub adapter and a proper tensioner . They all said no . I then told them if i had assembled their bike they would have the same problem .
They had the perception that they had bought a motorcycle . I also explained that they didn't buy a motorcycle and bought a bicycle with an engine on it thus requiring maintenance every 20 to 40 miles .
It didn't take long for me to realize that i in fact did not want to sell them to the public .
Just stumbled on your channel and am thoroughly impressed with your knowledge and comedic presentation .
I do comprehend what you're saying yet haven't the knowledge to know the specs you're spitting .
I'm certain you're videos are saving many assemblers much grief .

Thanks for watching brother. I was worried about making it so long but normally I make these kind of vids into 2 vids. One building and next testing but I didn’t want to do it this time and figured why not try a longer video. Seems like more people are watching more and more content on UA-cam instead of Tv shows. And according to my stats people that are watching TV have smart tv’s and are watching UA-cam on them anyway. So the vids are becoming normal “tv” shows I. A way.
How’s your build coming along. I haven’t seen any new vids or maybe I’m missing them. But that bike with the big down tube, I just curious how it’s goin. There’s a lot of work into it already and last I saw there was still more to go?
@@JMB676 Engine is almost done, waiting for the mag and USB programmable cdi. Back wheel, brakes and rockers (front wheel) need some serious work and we done.

I just drilled a bunch of holes on the bottom of this new one I’m working on and it helped a lot like almost 10 mph better

I would love a large shop to have everything laid out and to keep it cleaner and better lighting and all that. But for the lil space I got (just an old folding desk) I love it. Keeps it right at my chest level to see inside for ports and I can store the wheel right behind the vise I use. And the vise it on an arm to slowing out the way, so thank you I built it to fit what I wanted exactly. I find I can do more and better work with this setup than before. Being comfortable while working is or should be a top priority I find.

Yeah they really do rip when done right. It’s a real shame they don’t put a lil more love into them at the factory. They would sell so many more. This one is super solid now.

Your videos, you explain, so many don't and so many are not..too helpful. I learn and develope my own ideas from your videos of how i want to build an engine. Keep up the good work you do

I'm quite sure your method of checking the clutch spring lock thingy was explained so clearly that an old fart can understand. My clutch popped a couple days ago and I've been sure it was this. Now I'm moreso convinced that cutting 1 of my many Allen's will make several clutch lock thingies!

Glad I watched this before buying a YD.........Oh yeah, I seen pop up aftermarket pistons for chainsaws. I'm pretty sure I seen a 2 ring 52mm pop up that would fit an Avenger or P85.....I'm thinking a properly ported Avenger 85- with 2 ring pop up piston- the aftermarket head- expansion pipe & good carb. I'm having trouble understanding how a 47mm Mineralli could make more power than the above 52mm engine.
Well it’s all in the port map. The shapes of the ports make a big difference but if you changee all that the larger piston will make more power and torque. I have a Minarelli and it’s not stock at all and I didn’t try it stock but I can say with confidence that this yd I built was almost as strong bottom end as the Minarelli. Now the top end was different but I wasn’t going to for “all the power” with this yd100. But that old adage of no replacement for displacement is true. There’s a lot of other variables too though cause a Minarelli piston ( haven’t weight them yet) weighs more then a yd100 piston for sure just by feel so that heavier mass going up and down will make more torque throughout the rev range. The mini also has a reed valve causing way more air to get into the motor. If you port the yd100 or like my cdh110 to make the Same power as a Minarelli you can do it for sure and give it all the same goals they are all obtainable. It’s just that the mini has a better stock port map. But once you start to really dig into the motors you can make them all do around the same thing. Just some will be better than others at certain things. Like a 50cc will rev higher then any other motor or a smaller size piston will rev high because there’s less stress on the parts that are moving so fast. And a ms660 will make more torque then anything else that’s smaller when you are going for all the torque cause it’s so much larger then any other piston. So there’s a lot of variables to consider for sure but depending on what your goals are should determine what motor you want to use and how you want to set it up. There’s a lot of options and a lot choices to make power but when you choose you need to first be honest about when and how you will use it and what the actual goal is. If it all speed or if it’s a daily like this one or if it’s weekend fun machine. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting, I enjoy talking with everyone in the hobby.

I just had an idea for a DIY semi universal expansion pipe if you have a welder....You could use some heavy duty automotive flex pipe for the header of the expansion pipe so it can move into different shapes & fit different bike frames. Or make long straight scooter style expansion pipe. Similar to the crappy one Bike Berry sells buy use a better expansion chamber.

Thanks brother, hey Siri you had your bike posted in a group on Facebook the other day and I seen the fan on it and all that it was looking real mean bro looks like a real menace to society so to speak just it looks like it would rip up a hill no problem props for the set up because it looks aggressive and it’s a big part of making the bikes look how they do them and enjoy them and definitely accomplish that
I remember years ago when the yd100 first came out, mine came with two base gaskets Sooo I thought naw I'll only use one base gasket thinking I'll get more compression. Lol well the piston pinged and pinged kissing the squish band and I just figured that I needed higher octane not knowing the piston was hitting the head. Well it blew-up after about a month.well It bent the rod lesson learned. Always check the clearance with solder. Never guesstimate. Never ever ever ever.
Yeah I was shocked by how bad they are getting. My first one was when they first came out too and had 2 gaskets and now they come with 1 and still have a 2mm squish. It’s crazy. Now you can loose all the base gaskets and you won’t bend a rod, hell; you won’t even have high compression. Lmao.

Yes that’s a decent free mod, it is much better than just taking the cap off. Taking the cap off will give better low end feel and pull but losses a lot of top end speed. With how you did it you still get really good low end but wayyy more top end. Good job brother. Glad others are out there trying to to do free upgrades to make some power instead of just buying a bunch of bolt one that won’t even do as much as the free mods.
@JMB676 another good free mod is taking the sponge out the air filter and drill 5 holes in the back of the filter helps it breathe then just set the pin hight on the carb for best zllaround power
@@Motorizedstuff yeah tunning the carb is a much with the needle but the sponge I don’t take out my filter. It’s already very porous and doesn’t restrict air much if at all unless you don’t clean it in occasion but the holes is a good deal as long as you run genders if you ride in the rain at all. A lot of people don’t ride in rain so it don’t matter but I do and I have sunk a few motors in the past from not keeping the water out of there when I first started In race for speed and performance. Unfortunately it took me a few times to learn my lesson lol.

Well if someone gives me one I would be happy to play with it. The average sounds cool and looks cool being the new kid on the block but this motor was for someone else that already had the motor and wanted it better, and it’s a lot better now. Personally though I like the iron sleeve motors and to compete with the avenger having the 52mm bore. It’s the same size at my cdh110 on Jokester and it easily competes with it with power and definitely beats it in torque for clumping hills and stuff like that. Now if it’s a weekend fun bike that’s a different story. I never seen an avenger up close with my own hands and eyes but in videos it looks like it’s very well made for an all aluminum cylinder with nice ports and proper durations with fully open ports and all. The avenger also can be taken out of the box and put right on a bike and have some real fun, yes it benefits a good bit from porting it and all that but you can just take it out the box and play. The ones I like 100cc/49mm iron sleeve or the 110cc/52mm iron sleeve can be taken out the box and put directly into the work bench to make them run proper, forget about powerful. They don’t even run half decent out the box without a lot of help. So yes the avenger would be hella fun but I still don’t think it would make me throw out my yd100s simple cause my favorite part of the hobby is the building part, even more then the riding. I was looking on a website last night, to be honest; at the new avenger cylinder/top end kit as a replacement for one of my yd100 cases since it’s a bolt on piece. I have the right crank already and all and was thinking about buying a block of aluminum stock and making my own cylinder head for it. All just “window shopping” right now but there’s a good chance I’ll do it once I get the moneys. Building and playing with the latest and greatest is really good for the channel cause it brings in new eyes for sure. This yd100 though I think would surprise you with how much power and torque this motor makes with a mostly stock setup, carb and pipe style and intake with a piston port; the ports weren’t even that aggressive. So there’s a lot of power to be made in these motors if you port them right . Just cause it’s smaller bore or different name on the motor doesn’t mean it can’t make as much or more, like this motor; then the new hot ish. Yes I definitely could, I never had one for a yd or Ld100 but I imagine a basic Ld100 aftermarket head would be fine and fit good with a lil decking.

I see those L brackets on your gas tank. How is that holding up?? Sure beats using the supplied hardware. I've tack welded both my brackets to my frame to avoid the tank sliding around

I know it’s a stock yd100 bottom end so I have stock bottom men here I’m sure I can use one of mine to match up for the cuts and squish the only question I would have is what connecting Rod is it so I can use the proper crank to get the proper measurements for you.

I’ll tell her, I always do for you. But I think the main rage didn’t do that is because he just does not buy any parts in the aftermarket for his bikes. He just uses only what comes in the kit. But to be fair also any motor should be able to pull a person up a small hill if they have a lil speed built up. But after seeing the motor with the crazy squish and poor port numbers I’m not surprised at all that it didn’t work for gim and to be honest even a lil larger sprocket probably wouldn’t help much at all. It was really really bad. Plus he told me he rides like 10 mile round trips daily and even a couple times a day I believe so a bigger sprocket would add a lot more time to his ride cause the motor would be raving so much higher just to do 20mph and I’m pretty sure he said he prefers to be at 25+ cruising speed. With a larger sprocket that would over heat the engine especially with the squish being so Extra. I doubt it would make it over a half a year before blowing up completely.

Did you ever do a compression test? Just ordered a YD100 today for my 3rd gas build.
No I don’t have a compression tester but best I could do it explain when it was stock form with the plug in and my drill used to turn it over, my drill could turn it over pretty fast on the high torque setting and after I fixed the squish and raised the compression I had a much harder time just holding it in my hands to drive it with the drill and it wasn’t able to turn it over very quick at all. If I had to guess and it be just a guess but I would imagine I raised the compression at least 30-40 psi. But that’s just a guess going off no facts beside how much harder the compression stroke was. It could been a lot more or could been a lot less to be honest but I do know for a fact that it was much harder to do. I also know it ran much better with premium fuel over regular because the compression was able to use the higher octane cause high octane is only good or useful in high compression motors. It’s not the highest it could be cause I def could get it higher but for a daily rider it’s great so not to wear out the lower connecting rod bearings quickly.
@@JMB676 cool beans! I've ported 4 cylinders over the winter and adjusted squish good. Some have 120psi to 151psi, I've had one at 160psi but I think that's a bit much long-term. Pressure testers are really cheap nowadays, so easy to do too, pull plug, screw tester into plug hole, try to start bike as normal with choke open and throttle maxed out, take reading, about as easy as doing the squish test. Plus that feeling you get when you see 151 psi after all that work gives you a great feeling of accomplishment! Lol

Right that’s crazy, a brand new motor had water in it from factory. They pour mold the cases the cranks the connecting rods and the. Mill or lathe them to right sizes and then assemble at the “factory “ type places. Then stored on a shelf with no top on waiting to be shipped to the other factory to get finished up with the top ends. Now these yd100 bottom are used for a lot of other motors like the phantom 85 and the new avengers. So there’s way more cases being made and the majority of these “factories” or forges really are all outside with large tarp over head for shade or rain. Most of these places are in dessert type areas and rain isn’t that much so walls and that aren’t needed since it doesn’t get cold. But humidity and rain does happen and when these cases are together and just sitting on the shelf’s with all open tops all that gets in there and just sits till the cylinder gets put on from whatever factory it goes to. So it is a shame that they are not built better or just better quality control isn’t implied. But that’s why no matter what more you buy it should be taken apart and cleaned out at bare minimum but imo taken apart and gone through. If your able to personally I think each one should be ported and decked but if you can’t flip that or don’t want to or just aren’t able to then I think buying a motor from a reputable builder (like myself) is the best way cause that extra 100-300 (depending on motor and level performance you want) you would spend having me build it or someone else built it is a drop compared to buying a motor and slapping it on and then 6 months later doing it again and again and again. Cause buying even the cheapest motor kits you will be at about the same price or cheaper even then a custom motor and the custom motor will run way better run smoother have better performance and depton who builds it last much longer. Now not everyone can build a daily, to be honest I would put my daily build up against literally anyone in the business because building reliable motor isn’t easy. You can make to much power or not enough or have it rev to high, there’s a lot to make a daily motor hat you can just put on and run without worries and imo probably the hardest thing to do. Cause all stock part being reliable isn’t easy but making power is simple in comparison. I have broken many a motor and learned what’s needed to make it survive. Knick in aluminum but it’s very rare I’m working on one of my daily motors unless it’s a coil or something but the mechanics of it the actual motor itself I never need to work on.. they just start and run till shit them off and I think that says a lot cause these lil motors are not designed to be reliable transportation at all. So many people told me I can’t and they won’t be reliable but I think I have proved that wrong by now.

Can you tell me how you make the squish band by hand?
Sure I can tell you, I use my 90 degree angle tool for my rotary tool and I use a disk (disk size depends on squish band I’m cutting) that I have that fit the tool. I bought a bunch of different size grit sandpaper disks that have adhesive on the backs and I cut them to fit the disks and I hold the head I. My vise and I very slowly and carefully start cutting the squish by hand. Small strokes with low pressure and continue till I get it close to where I want it then I repeat that with each grit paper (60g, 80g, 120g, 180g, 220g, and even more if I’m goin for a different finish. I hold the tool head tight at an angle so to cut the squish of the shape of the dome of the piston to get a tight squish. It’s very hard to do and keep it proper looking so that the squish is symmetrical. I will be making a step by step video on how I do it soon and every other step I take to port the motors to give everyone an idea of the quality of work I do but also what’s to be expected if they are trying to to do it to. So when that comes out (in a month or two) watch it for sure cause it will explain it better with pics cause just verbally explaining is kinda hard to do. After others in the builder community seen the quality I did with the squish most think I’m just using a piston with paper on it to do it but that’s not how at all. I did think about it when I first started to try to do squishes but the dome shape makes it hard to stick paper to them cause it tinkles bad and I found 99% the time it wasn’t even close to an acceptable surface finish.

Been riding China dolls for 25 years, use 90s mountain bike frames v brakes F +R , get the 100 with removable head , dont drill holes in end of stock muffler do it on the side at the the end maby 3/4 inch from the cap on side. 1/16 h its quieter and made a pipe that slides over holes to keep quiet w cable and lever. Build my own rear wheel sealed bearings, steel hub and no crummy spokes or rag joint and put biggest sprocket I can for hills . SLOWER IS SAFER Make my own clutch pads out of semi mud flaps last forever. weld flat bar under tank to frame put wald basket in front can carry 3 bikes.
You carry three bikes in front of you? And you drill on side of pipe instead of cap cause it’s quieter? Just checking I’m reading it right. You have a lot of different things you do, you should put posts up in the group or chat showing them to everyone. Different way of doing things can be good sometimes.
@@JMB676 Also ride around with 2 ducks inside 2 Wald baskets top one upside down, take them surfing at the beach, dont drill the ex cap, only on side , ducks dont like noise, can carry 3 reg 26 mtn bikes on top of basket slow , the rear wheel is the best, Steel pipe for hub, bearings both ends, got HF roller with 1 inch fb and used old sun alum rim thats flat ,8/32 screws in spoke holes tapped the flat bar, nuts on inside, welded 1/4 pipe to hub stays true, welded big washer to hub for sprocket other side single freewheel. Use 2 sealed bearings and 10mm bolt, small pipe between 2 bearings to tighten up, inside hub, 500 rides and no service. Johnnys is the MAN most tuners dont help you as much as he does. I am calling my favorite Duck Johnny, his boy would loves the ducks.
in what way did it run very badly?
@@larryshaver3568 I was told it ran very poirly, low power and slow speed and no torque with a slow rev and got very hot. Basically everything bad that could be.

Lido if o would say overrated cause back in the day when they were new they were also tight and built better. Now if you get one the molds are so old and worn out that they just don’t have good tolerances and make no power. It’s a shame cause they use to make decent power for a stock motor but unless you fixed the cert-clip it could grenade at any moment.
Serious question. 80cc or a 100cc for a trail bike? Been wanting to build one to keep up with my pitbike/mates pitbikes on trails 😂
