- On April 8, 2016, 611 began its 2017 excursion season with a day-long trip on Norfolk Southern's Piedmont Division from the North Carolina Transportation Museum to Lynchburg & back. I arrived in Lynchburg shortly before departure and chased the train south all the way to Spencer. The 611 made good time on this run, and was well ahead of schedule when a defect detector forced them to stop near Thomasville, putting the train back into the museum about half an hour late.

Excellent video! The pacing shot north of Greensboro and the Amtrack overtaking on the Yadkin River Bridge were VERY cool...
Thanks! That pacing shot was tricky to get right, not something I normally do.
Great video! I love the shot of Amtrak's Carolinian side-by-side with 611. It was also great to meet you.
Thanks, good to meet you too.
Nice! The shot you took at Dry Fork was my favorite.
What a great video. Very nicely done.
Thank you
You've got the best shot possible at 12:40!
Thanks, that overtake almost made the ~1 hour wait for the train worth it.
good video
Congrats on 1k subs!!!
Did she steal the daylights cars?
The Queen of steam... by standards at the time she was built, she shouldn't have been able to do what she has proven to be capable of doing. To paraphrase something Mr. Link once said, the folks in Roanoke "were geniuses."
After she was turn on the wye for return trip to Spencer. 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
Wonder why 611 needed a diesel to help her for this run?
It was a long run so the diesel helped to reduce fuel consumption
@@SmokyMtnSteam but wasn't 611 running the exact same route it ran a lot on during its short return to the mainline from 2015-2018?
