    Omg! I finally found someone who knows about melting out disease! I knew that’s what I had and I’ve talked to so many so called grass experts and they had no idea what I’m talking about! I usually get it every summer and nothing helped! I started adding compost to the soil and a good dose of nitrogen hoping this year I don’t have to over seed in the fall. Thanks for sharing! I definitely will be following you! 🤗

    Yeah I’ve got a similar issue. I’m on the southern coast of Massachusetts and it rained for almost two moths straight here. I put down some starter Fert since I overseeded in the fall but now I’m getting brown spots which I think is disease from all the rain and crap from the road (quiet neighborhood. And I had a tree taken down that fell in this area) And mostly at the bottom of the lawn by the road. I have to fix my irrigation since I have A cracked valve but I haven’t watered yet this year because it’s been so mild and it rained so much. Was in the 40-50ks for months. Up until recently. It’s finally 70.. but the lawn is starting to look real uniform.

    Ginja, love your videos! Had to come back to this one, my Fescue/KBG is infected with red thread. Didn't even realize it, thought it was just typical spots waking up from winter. Mowed twice and next thing I know, 70% of lawn just went down pretty fast. Watched this video and am currently pushing it out. I'll have some unrecoverable damage, but it's looking much better. Thanks for the tips (2 yrs after you posted this 😀). Make more content, love the channel.

    Hey Ginja,
    Man do I wish I found your channel 2 years ago on this very topic. I’ve been dealing with fungal issues for years. I’m watching a bunch of your videos trying to learn as much as I can. Recently discovered I have sod webworms. This explains why my grass pulls up so easily, barely any roots and brown patches all over.
    Also, if there is one thing I’ve learned from your channel- when you hire a lawn service make sure they do a walk- through of your lawn to asses all issues. My lawn service has been treating my lawn since April and none of the apps seem to be improving the health of my lawn. Just discovered this week I have sod webworms. I made them come out to tell me why these applications they are putting down are not effective. And each day seeing more of my turf dying off.
    How serious are these things and will an insecticide kill them ?
    I can’t wait to dethatch; probably one of the causes.
    I would love to send you some pictures of my lawn- if you do that.
    Thanks again and I’m continuing to watch your channel.

    I believe your lawn is looking pretty dapper there, and like you mentioned knowing the signs of what to do next is vital. Not a huge issue at that point. Most of us would be pretty happy if our grass was that green, lmao.
    I do miss my golf course quality lawn, but....my 1 acre, well its a weed bed more than a lawn at this point. Lol. I would happily trade my rider for my old reel mower if my lawn gets that nice again.

    nice instructional videos thanks! First thing I've learnt is to STOP watering my lawn every day!! I thought it was a good idea but nope! I am in the UK, so way too much rain here but now we have some nice weather and I haven't watered my lawn for a few days - and I'll wait more as the soil is definitely still moist. Keeping an eye on it to see when it shows distress signals.
    Question: 6 to 8" of water after a period of no water? Isn't that too much? (I have clay soil BTW, so I assume that that is not good for me).

Question is if I have the monthly service come and spray their magic on my lawn, what should I or do I need to put down myself? I am a big fan of the organic fert and usually put that down in between the treatments. I know you can't burn you lawn with the organics and with the crappy soil we have here in the SLC valley can only benefit from it.

    Question LG. My lawn has widespread leaf spot and some red thread (I don't water every day). Weird thing is, my neighbor literally waters EVERY DAY and he has zero fungus...green as can be. I do not understand that. One thing I've noticed is that I accidentally striped my lawn in a few spots the last time I laid down fert. Those areas that received heavier nitogen (from the striping) seem to be maintaining the deep green color, and without the fungus. Could a good shot of nitrogen be the fix here? I'm also noticing some moth activity in the lawn, which I don't understand, because I treated twice with Spectracide Triazicide. Thanks for your time.

    Looking great! Had a question about overseeding spots. I recently did that but the grass around it has grown tall in about a week. Almost 3 inches or so. I see some seeds germinating but still pretty short. Will the tall grass crowd out the new grass and prevent sun from getting to the new seeds? Should I mow? Also I didn’t put starter feet down at overseed. Should I do it now? Thanks!

    Ginja, this is the video i was looking for. I have a problem in my kbg/prg. I'm 99% sure it's leaf spot and melting out. I noticed the lawn start to brown last fall with an overseed. I suspect it was because of the water. I did put a lot down. So coming out of winter the lawn is not responding like it should, thus further inspection and diagnosis. I fear the melting out is not in its early stage anymore. WWGD - what would Ginja do?

    I'm doing really well with my fenced backyard mowed short KBG with the gargoyles(my two Boston Terriers), and my other yards taller...I also have a bunch of flowering trees back there and it seems easier to clean up the peddles and leaves off the short grass ....I cut it as low as my GreenWorks Pro 80v mower will go spring and fall(and mow it a few times each week) but I'm about ready to start moving up to the next higher notch soon for help with the summer heat ....is it starting to show some signs of thinning due to so much shade from the trees, maybe does longer grass do better when there is lack of lotsa direct sun? or does mow height really matter for sunny vs shady areas? and why does Big Ned like his yard so tall?

    • @pestandlawnginja

      Hey Benjamin. The height of cut does matter. Mainly for evaporation. I prefer Kentucky bluegrass long. Hold color and is overall happier. With that said you can keep it short. Requires more water and more frequent lawn fertilization to keep it happy.

    I unfortunately have this fungus. Didn’t know and was watering 45 mins every other day. Ugh! My soil is very sandy and roots are shallow. Should I use the thatch rake to remove all the dead brown spots? I have stopped watering and think using the thatch rake will help it get air and nutrients? I ordered the essentials 1-0-1 still waiting for it to arrive. PS we have tall fescue not bluegrass and live in the North East.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  3 роки тому

      Hi Layla! you'll want about 1.75" of water per week during the hot spells. you can calculate this by doing a water output cup test. follow the video exercise at the bottom of our watering page at myallgreen.com/watering . As for daily vs 2 x per week watering. With sandy soils I recommend 4x to 5x per week. the water pushes through the sand too quickly and better to have more water on the top layers.

    I think I have this on new sod from overwatering. When do you resort to a fungicide when it gets really bad? Right now I see the bad blades throughout the lawn but not in any pattern yet. Are things like Scott’s disease ex safe for the lawn?

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  6 місяців тому

      youu can start with a fungicide if you want it will mask the problem for a little while. This video is a bit old and has a lot of fantastic info in it and the solution works great. but....... these issues commonly come from faulty water practices or heavy deficiencies in the lawn. in my case its lack of iron, which would be causation in my case. ultimately get your self a soil test and see whats going on. may save you a lot of money and head ache in the long run.
      as for a fungicide. anything with asoxystrobin in it will do great with melting out fungus.

    • @lopesphoto
      @lopesphoto 6 місяців тому

      @@pestandlawnginja Thanks for the response. I'm just concerned since I just spent $$$ on new sod, that I don't want to put down anything so soon that will inhibit the sod's growth. Its been 3 weeks since it was laid down. I was figuring on letting it dry out a bit and getting the height down to 3", where its growing fast and long right now. I did have a soil test before the sod went down and it says its lower on P and high on K, so they suggested a Milorganite.
      Is this something that will go away on its own with the warmer weather or do I have treat it now before it gets worse?
