Hi, I get Dollar spot every summer, and this yr put down a synthetic Fertilizer 32-0-6 scott's I think that was the ratio Lol but I read that can help it to not come out, but who knows I have it in my back yard already just 2 spots, but I have the Generic for Banner Propiconizale sp? and I put it in a gallon sprayer, I am nervous I never know how much to put down and or mix, if I see it pop up in my front lawn should I spot spray it or do the whole lawn? and can you keep it in the pump sprayer for a few weeks or is that a no no?? Thank you , Love your channel :)
Heres my 2c. Considering this is an issue you're dealing with annually I would treat the entire yard as a preventive measure. The solution should be fine for a few weeks.
Have you ever had your soil micro analysesd in a lab for trace nutrients? Handy but expensive. So I use the just-try-it method. For more even green (and it looks like yours isn't all that even) I use zinc sulphate powder and borax along with my lime and iron. But there are plenty more eligible elements in the periodic table to try. Seaweed is pretty good for broad spectrum minerals.
Hey Fred. Great question. The answer is no. My company services about 1500 lawns a month. I know the area pretty well and the deficiencies. If you keep watching in the series you'll see the results. I'm not against soil testing. Just stubborn hahaha.
@@pestandlawnginja Well it seems that you also use the just-try-it method but based an your experience and knowledge of the area. This is great! My area had huge variance all the way from gravel to clay. Old cold-to-temporate evergreen rain forest floor with many instances of topsoil hauled in from places like Alberta. Keep up the good work. Just an aside - if a fellow leaves the clippings on then spreading them around the lawn by using a side-discharge mower helps spread the nutrients out and can decrease the intensity of color variance. Of course it can also spread disease and weeds so ya gotta know the lawn first. Love your videos!
Hi Ginja, Looks like my power raking & Aeration with the Quinclora 75 DF, TZone SE, with MSO worked great! Thank You!👍. Wish i could show you how well it killed my weeds. Ive had horrible NRF for years, and feel it may be under control, but now having some other types of fungus (fear that the NRF is just holding off for hotter weather :( ) Would love to have you pay a visit!
Have you done any videos on de-thatching attachments for the mower? You know the kind that look like a blade with little plastic like fingers hanging down. I bought one years ago and returned it after it butchered my lawn.
They are not very expensive. I would love to get a professionals opinion on them. Maybe it has some usefulness? Or maybe everyone should be warned not to try that product?
Those attachments create vibrations as they skip across the surface that are also really hard on the mower's engine. Mower engines are really sensitive to excessive wear from vibration. That's why a mower blade has to be balanced to avoid damage from vibration. Much better to spend a $100 more and get a Sun Joe dethacher.

I sprayed Bioadvanced and used Scott's Disease Ex before seeing your video. Any advice on how to get rid of this fungus? I have no irrigation and fert with milorganite, mow twice a week and mulch. I hear yah. You'll just have to be a bit patient. drying it out is key unfortunately. so when the rain stops, mow, no water to stress the lawn out, use a 21.0.0 to 30.0.0 fertilizer to force growth, no mowing until the grass gets to be 5" then scalp down to 2", wash the mower with soap, then water 3 to 6" to replace the lost water.

I have a question for you. I live in the northern Midwest. The north side of my lawn grows really well, steady paced and thick. It has sun and shade favoring towards shade. The south side of my lawn grows thin, but extremely fast, is quite a bit more dense, but has little shade (interesting note, the south side had far less weed problems). The south side is much less green than the north side and goes dormant in certain spots quite often. Shade issue?
shade can present that problem. I was on a lawn yesterday that was getting less than 3 hours of sun and it had a similar issue. coming in patchy and tired. The suggestion is to focus on not overwatering or underwatering. this can be a chore in and of itself to figure out. The other issue is to find a seed suitable for this condition. see ntep.org

yup, in Iowa its gone from a strangely long spring with the cool and very wet to suddenly now hot and dry...however I knew it was going to happen so had been slowly working to cut some of my yards taller....last week I'd gotten my front(with the most sun) up to 'setting 5' on my mower from 1, 2, 3, and 4 over about the last six weeks or so, then yesterday gave it another light buzz at 5 just for a cleanup at that height; and did the side yards the same but at 4....my short mowed back yard I've only gone from setting 1 to 2, but should be able to make it up to 3 this next week...but gosh its hard to push yourself to mow taller in the summer when you like shorter lawns and mowing every other day, I just have to hold myself back from going out there and cutting it back down; but I know my grass will thank me for it ....but it might be fun to try and see if I can get some of it to stand up at my mowers highest setting 7 gonna have to start watering tho(at least in the back, hopefully the fescue in the front can hold up between rains) sigh....I just hate paying for that
Ginga, I appreciate your thoughts on mowing height. This year I am mowing at 2 1/4 which is short for me up here in Davis County. I am kind of digging the shorter cut! I usually mow at 3- 3 1/2 for the past 18 years of home ownership. I mow 2 times a week at least. Do you think I could go to a 1 3/4 inch cut and maintain that height even during our hot, dry Utah summers? My blades get sharpened once a month by my local mower shop, and I water 2 times per week but could do more if needed.
You can go as short as you want. You'll have to increase the amount of mows per week, increase fertilization frequency, and increase watering the lower you go. I think your goal is easily achieved. You'll need a ton of micro nutrients to sustain the heat to prevent stress dormancy.
Nothing. All the prep work from last fall and throughout my regular services should prevent new spots or at the least keep them down to manageable softball size spots as opposed to basketball size.
im in the salt lake area and seeding my dead back yard, I fenced off half the yard to stop the dogs from trampling it, seeded a couple months ago and re seeded a few weeks ago and its coming in well. when do you think the temps will allow me to swap over to the other side and seed? loving this channel, was looking for someone in a similar region with some tips and ended up in the perfect place i guess!
Thanks for dropping a comment. The answer is... it depends on the seed you chose. Kentucky Bluegrass takes a LONG time to establish and get thick. Just watch it and do some random pull tests. It'll look like the rest of the lawn when it's ready.
@@pestandlawnginja it's a mix of bluegrass, red fescue, and perennial rye. Should I wait till fall or will the seed take if I plant it now? I just dont want it to be too hot
you can get seed to germinate as long as it stays wet. The choice is yours. do you have the time, dedication, or want to get it to go in the heat. I personally am lazy and would wait until fall.

@@TheDrMaSuess legitimately its a frustrating process. you have to kill the areas out or you have to paint each blade with glyphosate by hand. Then you can dig it out and replace it with sod or topsoil and overseed
What are your thoughts on my plan for the fall? Dethatch with my greenworks, then mow down to 1”. Then overseed with a seed blend from seed superstore. Peat moss on top and water when nature doesn’t. Hoping to have the new cultivars win out over my lighter green grass clumps.
How could I remove these grasses without nuking all my grass? Honestly, I’m intimidated to completely start over, in addition to my wife thinking I would be completely off my rocker to do so.

your lawn looks nicer than last year :)
Yes! Slow and steady
Lawn looking awesome. Great video as always. I have to admit, I always end up checking the mountain views though. Beautiful area you live in.
I'm not as good looking... I understand
@@pestandlawnginja it does make me chuckle to see how much shorter your beard was in your early videos. Maybe all that exposure to the fertilizer? 🤔
Eric Ross, if he uses Roundup on it he won't have to shave!
@@Erock-yn3se it's the phosphorus
im in the salt lake area and seeding my dead back yard, I fenced off half the yard to stop the dogs from trampling it, seeded a couple months ago and re seeded a few weeks ago and its coming in well. when do you think the temps will allow me to swap over to the other side and seed?
loving this channel, was looking for someone in a similar region with some tips and ended up in the perfect place i guess!
Awesome job Ginja! As usual great tips!! Thanks so much for sharing, I have been able to maintain my lawn with your tips! It's looking great in comparison to before! Have a good one!!
Love it elaine! You'll do great
Where do you live at in this country I'm here in South Georgia we don't have snow capped mountains in the background you're talking about Kentucky bluegrass well what we have here is a problem called poa annual also known as Kentucky bluegrass any tips on removing this weed problem here in South Georgia
I'm in Utah. Try tenacity for poa control. Just beware it can have a bleaching effect if you broadcast over the entire lawn.
@@pestandlawnginja thanks for the info I'll look into it and if so I'll spot treat that's a beautiful background and your video I knew it had to be out there somewheres
@@late6812 best of luck. Thanks for watching

Maybe wavy stripes is your thing...I say go for it and stick to your strengths
👊😁 good call!
If you have the patience to grow a beard then you have the patience for Kentucky Bluegrass.
Good call!
(let's get the mow job and then....) If Ginja get himself some loving every time mows the lawn is it any wonder his lawn looks great?
Well.... I 😂😂😂

So I live in Utah like you I believe... What's the best way to get rid of wide blade grass?
Dig it hit it with a non selective herbicide then scalp it and overseed
@@pestandlawnginja you make it sound so easy... And if it's pretty rampant... Rip and replace?
@@TheDrMaSuess legitimately its a frustrating process. you have to kill the areas out or you have to paint each blade with glyphosate by hand. Then you can dig it out and replace it with sod or topsoil and overseed
@@pestandlawnginja thanks! There are a couple areas that are getting pretty bad so maybe I'll wait another year... Sod cut and replace
What are your thoughts on my plan for the fall? Dethatch with my greenworks, then mow down to 1”. Then overseed with a seed blend from seed superstore. Peat moss on top and water when nature doesn’t. Hoping to have the new cultivars win out over my lighter green grass clumps.
I like it. I think I would consider removing some of the less desirable grasses during this process.
How could I remove these grasses without nuking all my grass? Honestly, I’m intimidated to completely start over, in addition to my wife thinking I would be completely off my rocker to do so.
