That "hideous monster" you referred to at the beginning tea-bagged me online today at like 2 frames per second. And now I can happily say that this guide will allow me to take out my frustrations on other Yoshi players.
@@ketchubb Yeah, I have some scrub friends who thinks it takes skill to hit someone only when they are busy hitting someone else. And they get mad whenever I play my own main because last time we played 1v1s, I mopped the floor with all of them. And when I win, expects a never ending supply of johns.
How do we know you're not just feeding us lies so you can dominate with Yoshi in tournaments? 🤔 But seriously, way to use your knowledge to help others, even if it makes your life more difficult in the process!
Quiet you fool, before they realise that his advice against holding shield on platform ALSO applies vs. Kirby with our command grab, shield poke and shield break options!
Edwin Jiménez Aceves, and losing 1 match loses a million gsp. I won 10 matches in a row with ganon and went down all the way from 2 million to 744 thousand.
"You are probably watching this because you struggle against this character" Me, a big brain: **Actually mains Yoshi, but watches this so when people try to beat me by using this video, I'll know how to counter them**
Not many people would teach others how to beat their character, thank you so much for this!! This is one of my worst match ups and I now have stuff to test out!
As a Yoshi main i found this helpful! BB, thank you for all the examples if what a good vs bad Yoshi player would do. I have identified some areas to improve on thxs to this vid.
This is really good actually. I've been afraid to watch it until I gained more experience with the character, but this really reaffirms my understanding of this character, who I consider to be the most versatile in the game.
Thank you so much for ALL of these helpful tips in how to beat Yoshi. I've played against Yoshies in all of the Smash Bros. games to date, mainly the Blue Yoshies and they're still a PAIN to deal with, even in Ultimate. I'm a Sephiroth main though after ditching Joker for the one-winged angel in December 2020. I ditched my other three ex-mains Dark Pit, Falco and Blue Yoshi for Sephiroth and I'm having lots of fun with the newcomer. But I've been kind of having lots of trouble fighting against Blue Yoshi and this is why I came to this guide to help me. I'm glad I did because now I've learned something new thanks to this guide of yours. =3 I've been able to hold my own against him though, like using Scintilla against Egg Roll, which reflects his own damage right back at him. The CPU is so stupid sometimes and will constantly use Egg Roll, which just prompts me to use Scintilla, but sometimes Blue Yoshi can be both unpredictable and predictable.
I DAMN despise yoshi due to the ridiculous damage and speed and then the fact he can get away with bad plays due to the damn heavy armour meaning you can't even edgeguard him
When you said Yoshi had the highest air mobility, I believe you were actually referring to air speed. Air mobility is the ability of a character to change their aerial movement, whether it’s speeding up quickly or changing direction (it is synonymous to air acceleration from my experience). This is evident in a character like Squirtle, who people consider mobile in the air despite his subpar air speed. This is due to his air acceleration. In contrast, Little Mac has bad air mobility, yet has decently high air speed. I found this info on Ultimate Frame Data btw. Either way, this doesn’t take away from what you said (Yoshi still has great air acceleration, and air speed is important too), just pointing out a small misconception.
Something else to add is, multi hit moves knock back will stack up against yoshi's armor so if you play a character with a multi hit move with a bit of knock back you can eat yoshis armor on his jump plus give the full amount of knock back of the move because the 120 knock back points will have already been eaten up, you can also use this same idea to do drag down moves near a ledge to eat his jump and soft spike him by not using the final hit of the move, best exzamples are a ness f air and palu n air. Also command grabs will always beat his armor so dropping off stage and using an incineroar side b can be a risky way to kill a yoshi at 0 or falcon, ganon up bs deedeedee, kirby can be a way to deal with his armor and put yoshi in a bad spot
I'm a banjo main. I ain't a pro or anything but I've had enough experience to know that the yoshi banjo matchup is just about my worse one rn, if not MY worst then every banjo's worse. I got double eliminated from STS recently by two yoshi mains back to back this video definitely helps
Personally, I love Yoshi... But... Some people play SO toxic with him... I don’t hate characters really, any character can be cool. I however hate it when someone takes a character and just keeps doing about the same stupid thing and gets rewarded for it.
Great work man seriously well done !!! I was wondering could start a series with the whole cast ? If doable. And I realize that's like 70+ vids so no stress if doable. Regardles man fantastic work !!!
I've mained this character since 64 and everyone always hated me for it. But now, I have the knowledge of what people expect of me. And I will do the exact opposite.
If you can't do anything else against a Yoshi, start by matching his horizontal motion, maintaining a safe space between you. It's a lot like fighting Jigglypuff. Eventually you may be able to start seeing moments to punish. And it's more fun than shielding every landing and hoping you guess his next move correctly. Most Yoshi's eventually start getting frustrated and their game plan may break down.
Put a tub of glue next to them before the match starts that way mid match they will start guzzling the glue and you can take advantage of thier lack of concentration.
10:32 as a Lucas main, my first thought was “that’s safe?” And my second was “wait what the fuck that’s 63.2 miles away from the sweetspot, which just so happens to, well, y’know, COMPLETELY AVOID NAIR?!”
My problem with trying to camp yoshi: I played a few yoshis in tournament, but I by far lost the most against one, who played extremely campy himself. What do you do as Lucina against yoshi in that case? I never had a noticable stock lead or anything, so the moment I stopped approaching, yoshi just started throwing eggs. And thats it. Different timings, different angles, so once in a while I get hit and loose my advantage. In situations like this I wonder, how am I supposed to camp a projectile character without any projectiles? Am I expected to avoid every single projectile? Or how else am I supposed to "camp"? Advice is appreciated!!
As a Mac main, whenever I hear someone mention that using aerials against a character is critical in the match-up, I can already feel the match-up being hellish before I even touch my controller
I know this vid is like a year old, but what do you do when yoshi has you at ledge, specifically him in shield, ready to nair your options? It's a pretty broad question but anything helps.

Parrying helps a lot with Yoshi and dealing with campers. I’ve gotten better at parrying which has helped a lot. Parrying is essential for DK and marth
While Yoshi doesn't have any kill throws, if you abuse shield at high percents he can get a grab to throw you off stage. Yoshi has tools to edge guard most characters in the game and can very easily gimp with up b, nair, fair, and bair.
I would comment, but I think commenting is most effective in moderation. I think I will instead mix up my options so that I dont get punished
I found this funnier than I should have
