Still believe Josh Christopher can be a star in the league in the right situation. Not sure there's many left, as his game is suited for a different time where the ball was in his hands more.

No, he won’t be a star.
The first question is « could he, even, become a role player ? ».
The next question is « which role ? ».
And the last question is « what kind of specialist is he ? ».
He’s not great at anything and being a good basketball player, which he is, in the League isn’t good enough to last.

Most of these kids grow up playing one way. The ball in their hands. In the league there are around 20 guys that have that freedom. If they're not one of those guys they struggle. We see it with him, RJ Hampton etc. Very talented, but mainly know how to play one way and if they're not scoring they don't impact the game. Then you factor in the league continues to get young and younger. Once you're typecast into a role its hard to get out of it!

All facts and unfortunately that style/mentality is bein bred by the modern aau system so many of these guys come up developin in so few teams in aau do5care about winnin an don't run real systems it's just get the ball to the best player or players as much as possible everyone else get out the way and when the shot goes up crash the boards playin that style guys either only learn how to play for highlights or how to go one on one and score and as you said they get to the league and their out of luck because they haven't developed a skillset and haven't developed a secondary playstyle to fall back on so I do fill like what's happening to Christopher is really a sympt3of a larger issue

@@johndavis9321 I agree. We are seeing this style in the NBA as well. I have reverted to calling it HS offense. Before the large increase of prep schools/private basketball factories most HS teams has 1, maybe 2 D1 players who would basically do everything offensively for their teams. It's unfortunate. Guys are not more skilled, if their own skill is with the ball in their hands

Like you said, most players grow up playing with the ball in their hands. That includes most nba players, not just the 20 or so that still have that freedom. Sure, some guys struggle with the adjustment but if they want to be in the league they better learn fast. And most do figure at least something out.

@@johndavis9321 Yeah, sorta. But here's the thing, pretty much every player in the NBA came up through the AAU system in one way or another (except the foreign guys), so it's not like playing AAU in itself keeps you from developing a good play style.
I think the social media hoops environment is way more damaging. Kids chasing views/likes/recognition and coaches and parents who are happy to play along. Winning doesn't even matter, just who gets noticed most (Mikey Williams being more obvious example). And turns out the NBA doesn't value how many IG followers you have.

As a rockets fan I knew the moment he got drafted with his best friend green that he wouldn’t get a good opportunity. They both play pretty much the same position with similar ball dominant play styles. The biggest difference being how green can shoot the ball better which gives him a chance to develop off the ball. Not to mention there being other more established wings already taking spots. Some would say the leaked video plays a role but if that stuff didn’t stop green or Davis prior I don’t see it hurting him in the long run either. He realistically wouldn’t even have opportunities to join a team if that were the case. 😅

Saw this coming from a mile away. He had the talent, size and confidence to be a superstar in hs. Talent, size and confidence to get thru college and be a star (not superstar). But in the nba everyone is just as good or better than him. His size is okay but nothing spectacular for his game style. That leaves only a few options for him to be successful in the league. I don’t think he has the maturity to be a good role player. They asked him to be a facilitating pg in summer league but he wanted to chuck shots up like he was still the man. Best thing is to put his pride away, live in that gym/elevate his game, and try to find the right opportunity to be that 1st-3rd option but way easier said than done

Back in the day josh would've had a spot on a team because he was coming off the bench and able to score 15 to 20 points in houston but nowa days with 3 point shooting and analytical judgment involved in the game it's not just about you hooping or being nice its more like this is a position for you to play that's your job do that nothing extra 3 point shooting is a must and whats asked of you to do one the court is what you need to be doing and fast.

The need for slashers have almost become extinct unless that’s just a piece of the overall game. Even a 6 man would have been nice, maybe 🤔 a back up point guard. The problem the Rockets did not give him enough minutes, so he can put his game together on the floor. The only thing was coming into the draft he hadn't had the collegiate performance to make him a centerpiece in the rocket's eyes and the organization was definitely putting more of the trust in KPJ so Christopher came as an afterthought. He could hoop of course and I think had what it took to be in that rotation but it woulda helped if maybe he went to an already established or developing team that wasn't guard heavy like maybe where the Pacers were around that time as well as the Raptors. He really just got stuck in a bad position as an afterthought on a bad team because you can't convince me this man wasn't or isn't league ready.

  • @aboutmillions
    @aboutmillions 11 місяців тому +3

He'd be better off playing overseas. His style doesnt match the skill level it takes for him to lead a team, he can't score without the ball and doesnt make anybody on his team better. Averaging 17pts on a G-League team when you're ballhogging & chucking shots is not impressive at all lol
Him & Jalen Green are the epitome of "AAU Hoopers" zero structure, zero fundamentals just talent tbh but dont think the game at all.

Mac McClung has really developed a lot since he go to gleague , I think he's ready to be a first guard off the bench , he actually had a few nice games for the sixers. He should find a spot on NBA bench soon. He's improved his passing and 3pt shooting a lot.

Im a Rocket Fan so Im very Familiar with Chritospher Plus that Weired Stuff with him and Jalen Green Really messed up his image amd the Rockets let him go Imediatly!

The Miami Heat are likely to pick him up. They brought him into their G-League to gauge what he can do, and he is doing quite well. Unfortunately, he is dumb and is sending a strong image-message that he would rather have a career in "fashion" than one in the NBA. Someone isn't advising him properly. He needs to drop these corny fashion aspirations for now and focus on his b-ball skills.
