Two things to think about that also helped you not win. You thought your opponent was weaker than you when you started the game. That was a strategic weakness on your part and made you play unfocused. A person does not get to that point in a tournament without having strengths to get there. You underestimated your opponent. Because of the underestimation you played slower in the beginning which assisted in causing you the time issue. You lost because of a mental lapse in strategy. You are very good, however, you must never overestimate yourself. It is a consistent tragic flaw for most who lose in situations that require strategy. Study history & you can see it time & time again.

Just my opinion: at 7:20, I think that playing c4 to block the white bishop would have been a good option. This move would leave the white bishop trapped behind the queen with only two possible moves. After that, the plan would cont.. black capturing the white knight and then playing e5. Of course, it depends on whether white decides to take on e5 or advance to d5. By that time, I would aim to move the black knight from d7 to d6, either via c5 or e5. Secured by the pawn on c4, this knight would block the white queen and bishop while also threatening the trapped rook. However, I wouldn't exchange that knight for the rook just yet, as keeping it would give me more time to launch an attack on the kingside. It’s an idea that might work! :)

Thanks Anna! I think from the positions you reached you should have won this tournament. However it's true that playing faster could raise your chances even more!
And one more thing: Don't think too much about winning just play the positions!
When I played our traditional Blitz tournament (around the 6th of December) I always wanted to win it! When I finally won this tournament once (and the only time) i thought that I'd finish second if I drew the last game (which I did). But it turned out that it was sufficient for winning the tournament! What a pleasant surprise! It would have been even harder had I known that a draw would have secured me the victory in this tournament! That's highly psychological - the pressure under that you'll put yourself! Failure will be programmed in most of those cases!

@@aspartameindustry I would like to respectfully disagree. I personally am not mad. It was a mild disappointment at most. Also, click-baiting is not the business of UA-camrs categorically. I feel, and I can't imagine I'm alone, that click-baiting is the business of less reputable UA-camrs, which Anna is most certainly NOT. If I saw her channel as ordinary or sub-par, I would roll my eyes and move on. But it's exactly because I see her as being better than that, that I am mildly disappointed. Click-baiting is lying, plain and simple. UA-camrs lie when they don't have good enough content to stand on its own. Anna has excellent content that can easily stand on its own. She doesn't have to stoop to those lower levels. But again, this is hardly the end of the world.

At 10:59 you had him...you should have played Qf3X, when he retreats, take the knight on f6 and continue with Kf3. There a bunch of possible attacks from that position. If he retreated to g1 you have check again while forking the h2 pawn, or if he retreated to f1, you're attacking the h2 pawn while threatening check again and a chance to move the queen closer. Good game though!
