I love it! Thank you for posting this. Great humbucker sound.
Great review Jim 👍
I absolutely love that color. I saw they released these on Instagram but have seen any videos yet. Good stuff
Thanks Cody I appreciate it!
This Guitar is pure joy to look at when she's on the wall in my room, and to play !! The daphne blue on a LP style is simply astounding !! Few weeks after this one i bought a dc dlx in phelam blue..another great guitar..it's a shame they discontinued that color for dc and sc models..😩
I agree the color is amazing!!!
First time stopping by, great video! I subscribed.
Thanks Mark glad you enjoyed it enough to sub and comment!
Very informative review. Good looking LP.
Thanks for the comment David, it is absolutely a looker.
Great playing. Love that whacky color too.
It was absolutely a strange color, very unique indeed, just wish it had a pickguard or I was going to destroy that satin finish I play a little rough haha
Love the color. Great video.
This Daphne Blue is MUCH more vibrant blue than the DB on the fusion. It's funny looking at them side by side, this really is a gorgeous instrument. Thanks again marcus hope the fam and kiddo are well
I got mine yesterday. love the Gotoh hardware. push/pull cuts the volume almost half. but full humbuckers I compared with my Gibson LP and it did stand up. but guitar needed a lot of setting up which I have done myself. Even the truss rod was completely lose when I got it.
I used to be a big fan of Epiphone Les Pauls but reviews like this one have really got me thinking. I've changed pickups in every guitar I've ever had anyway, so that's just not a factor. I do my own set-ups and I've had American-made Gibsons and Fenders that needed it too, so that's not a big deal either.
Comparing features and reviews, and playing a couple at stores, it really seems like Epiphone is just resting on their laurels these days... much like Gibson itself. I'm getting really, really tempted to order a HB SC-DLX and mess around with it.
With decent tuners and bridge like this HB seems to already have, I really couldn't even put a kit together and have the same quality for the same price.
I always feel a little guilty taking advantage of cheap labor, but hell... all the guitar companies take advantage of cheap labor whenever possible, so unless you're buying custom shop stuff that point is sort of moot anyway.
Nice guitar. Great playing
Thanks man, this is a fun one to play and a great weight which is super important to em.
👍🏻👍🏻
hb is insane. their quality for price is unmatched. the new fusion 3 came in and the neck feels flawless. everything feels amazing. harley benton are doing amazing work
That's awesome Ali!!! I told you the neck on that was amazing, I still can't believe how good it is.
Have I missed a mention that it does also have stainless steel frets? At this price range???? Awesome
Hope its good🤞
Harley Benton is KILLING IT with their game! They hit the nail on the head when they improved the tuners, upgraded the pups, satin neck, luminescent side dots (coming soon to all models, I hope), solid bridge, good electronics. I've got plenty of USA custom guitars, so I do know what a high quality guitar feels like. My TE-90Q it's a superb guitar except for those few little things (tuners) and HB just fixed the shortcomings. They nailed it! Exactly what I would have done! Harley Benton is listening to us! My new Daphne arrives on Monday. I can't wait!
So now I gotta know, how is it???
@@AudiomoMusic Bro. I just opened it last night. If it were a turd I would tell you it was a turd, I have no reason to lie. And I'm telling you this new Daphne SC is impeccable! I can't find a flaw anywhere on this guitar. And I'm not just talking cosmetics. I've built many guitars and refinished many fretboards and I went over this fretboard in detail and I can't find anything but perfection in the frets. I don't know how they get these frets so perfectly leveled, it's almost like they're plek'd. There's not enough room for me to talk about how great this guitar is at any price. It's sitting right next to my 2021 Gibson Les Paul Modern and .... They play almost exactly the same (regarding the fret board and feel). I'll just say one more quick thing and that's that I'm really happy with the Tesla alnico pickups. I hate to sound cliche but they get perfectly dirty when you turn them up and when you turn them down they're nice and clean. I'm very picky about my pickups, I actually enjoy changing them, and I definitely will be keeping these stock Tesla pups. Even 5 years ago imported guitars were not this nice. I don't know what they're doing over there when they make these guitars but they're perfect. If someone slapped a different label on the headstock and charged $1500, I would believe it.
Nice guitar.
It looks nice in that blue, with the gold hardware, it can be tweeked to suit your own style, i find HB to be great value for the money, and they are just as good as Epiphones and Squires, and sometimes 100% better. They are certainly much better than guitars of say 5 years ago. Too many guitar snobs, i have played Les Pauls and Top of the range Strats, and been very dissapointed at the set up and finish, and they were expensive models, so hey why don't we cut the HB guitars some slack.
I'd say it's better than the Epiphones by quite a margin. I see almost no value in those given the dodgy QC and pricing. There are less expensive brands like HB amongst others that I would buy without thinking twice over an epiphone.
Great review. I’m thinking to buy this model or the new SC with EMG’s. Which one do you prefer?
I'd rather have this one over the one with EMGs but I don't really play super aggressive music and prefer the passive electronics on this
Mine is a Pelham Blue, B-stock. It is amazingly beautiful, photos and videos do not do it justice. I actually didn’t like the color online but purchased because of the price discount. So glad I did. Why B-stock? The G tuner is cocked way off vertical! I will fix it at string change, will leave a blemish on the back of the headstock, who cares. Other than that, it is really nice, and quite a bit thinner than my HB P90 goldtop.
That's not even that bad of an issue to get a decent discount. When I ordered this one the Pelham wasn't available, I would have definitely picked that finish if it were at the time so I'm quite jealous
Thanks, nice review. I still tinking the SC 550 sounds better. I didn't like very much the sound of the full humbuckers. But, I would like to see a comparisson between this two nice guitars.
I prefer the sc550 to this model despite the hardware upgrades, but I really believe I just got one of the freakishly good ones 🤣
@@AudiomoMusic does the original sc550 come with stainless steel frets ?
@@jayz6008 no
Good video. Just a note: you may get no fret rocking by measuring the middle of the frets. But you can still have high frets in different spots, say more on the treble side of frets. These can still cause substantial issues depending on the player’s requirements. Maybe this guitar is fine though : ) Also: is the 21th fret actually higher than 20th and 22th.. or the 22th fret lower than the ones before it? If you had rocking while placing the fret rocker over the last 3 frets, it is maybe the 21th that’s high, at that exact spot. And if the 22nd fret was lower than 21st, it wouldn’t cause issues, at least not for buzz, fretting out, ect
I double checked after reading this, it's definitely the last fret that's the lowest. It's not really noticable whatsoever as you said, but it's there.
@@AudiomoMusic ok cool! I've had quite a few bentons, but have often needed to do fretwork on them. Glad this is good. I quite like the color of this guitar, too.
For the price, can you really complain about minor faults? I think not. Really nice review dude, I'm very tempted to buy one myself as a backup.
I completely agree. I just make it a point to address everything, some people are extremely picky and want to know these things. Overall youd need to spend a bit more money to find something as good as this from another brand. I definitely recommend it!
Do you know what the fret board radius is? How does the neck compare to the SC550 ii ?
I have a SC 550II and im very happy with it, but im thinking to buy another guitar to play hard rock stuff, do you recommend this or the fusion 3? thank you
If you already have the SC550 ii, i'd definitely go for the fusion. It'll be a nice compliment for a lead guitar as well given the extra 2 frets and trem.
Thanx👍🏻👍🏻..I've bought the 'SG"....better than my Gibson 🤔....incredible and awesome
The SG's were even better priced! That's awesome you love it congrats
Hey man, just a heads up. I noticed this in your HB Fusion video as well. Your guitar recordings clip the preamps when you play on the hotter pickup settings (e.g. pretty much all the "full humbucker" ones in this video).
I have noticed this AFTER it gets uploaded to youtube as well, and it depends on which editing suite I use for the video itself. When I use Final Cut it's much more consistent in terms of not clipping, but premiere for whatever reason also says it's not clipping inside of the program but once it gets posted to youtube forget it... and at that point damage is done the video and everything is already uploaded. I think i'll permanently switch to Final Cut.
@@AudiomoMusic I switched to FCPX about a year ago. It works well. Especially on bigger projects. I just don’t like the file handling.
Your playing has gotten even better my man
thanks man, turns out playing guitar for youtube every day will inevitably result in getting a little better over time haha
Question, due to the difference in body and neck woods, do you find it neck heavy?
Slightly more so than your average les paul, but nowhere near as neck divey as the dreaded SG.
A clarification - do you not like the coil split on this guitar specifically, or are you not a fan of it in general? (Or maybe just on Les Pauls)?
It really depends on the pickups. I love the splits on Core PRS guitars and on Lindy Fralin pickups. Never played a Gibson With stock electronics that I enjoyed the split on either.
@@AudiomoMusic So... these aren't really your style, I gather? How about compared to the coil split humbucker on the Fusion?
Faked out with live-stream! Is that the same blue as the Fusion?
Technically yes, but in person it's way more vibrant than the fusion is
Great review, I want to buy one. How does this compare a Tokai Love Rock? Also, I see the Harley Benton SC-DLX Gotoh Daphne Blue depicted with black pick ups on the website, how do i get this color with black pick ups.
if it's a Japanese Tokai, the Tokai will smoke it but you're going to be paying substantially more. If it's a chinese Tokai, i'd be more likely to take one of these instead. I don't think see that option, maybe it's a different model?
@@AudiomoMusic li figured out the photo with the black pick ups was just the lighting. Although it would look great with black pickups and hardware. I ordered one. Yeah, the Tokai from Japan are expensive. Looks like a great guitar though.
@@AudiomoMusic Awesome review by the way. Thanks
I bought this one, lovely guitar. Just couple of minor flaws.
I noticed a few as well, nothing deal breaking but they were there. What issues did you have?
Hi, should i buy this guitar and upgrade with some SD pups? Is guitar worth it? And what flaws do u have ?
@@AudiomoMusic Very few, couple of frets uneven, one around 14 or so and one of the last ones close to the neck pickup, but still nothing that gets in the middle of your playing. Two of the screw holes for the backplate where widen so screws move freely. And for the last a design flaw, light guitar yes, but neckdive. I added 200 grams of weight in the control cavity and made it much better, but now the guitar weights 3.7 kg. All in all, great guitar, great sound.
@@kulmuki To my eyes this is an awesome guitar, I hate gloss guitars, so even the satin finish of this one is quite pleasant. I would not change the pickups at all, I got surprised by those Teslas, quite clear sound, even some snap on them. If you want to change anything, maybe the volume pots for CTS or the push pull for something of greater quality, but honestly they work fine, I would leave them until they break, IF they ever happen to break. Except for the neck dive, this one is no doubt my favorite Harley Benton along with the Fusion T.
Marco you like the bridge pick up? Only thing I’ve thought about changing, sounds muddy.
Between the SC-DLX and SC-550 II, which has the better neck/fretwork, etc. Do you prefer one over the other?
They are the same minus the finish on the back of the neck really. The SC550 is a glossy finish while the SCDLX is a satin finish, so that's down to feel preference. For me I would like the neck to be satin but the body itself to be gloss, which some brands offer but HB currently does not, one day!
@@AudiomoMusic thanks - the specs say the sc-dlx has a 43mm nut width, while the sc-550 II is 42mm - can you notice any difference?
Nothing noticeable when playing imho
Just a heads up when you use a fret rocker you should use it on more than just a single spot on the radius. So in the video it looks like you just got between the third and fourth string and went straight down but, really you should be doing it in between every string for every fret because some frets can be seated uneven.
Indeed Jose, I had seen someone say their pet peeve was that I did not check the frets at all, so I ordered the fret guru and that was my first time ever using it believe it or not!
@@AudiomoMusic nice well it is certainly a good tool to get weird string buzzing under control due to high frets. Hopefully I didn’t come off snobby I just wanted to pass along that tip since I actually have work experience fret dressing lol.
How is the output of the pickups, low, medium, high?
They are definitely in the medium range, nothing too hot but you don't have any problems cleaning up and saving some clarity... and obviously with gain they are great for all the kinds that I typically play ( nothing really metal for me )
damn, i just bought the sc 550-II not long ago and i see this one and it looks really nice. maybe ill have to buy just one more. Could you possibly do a comparison video of the two?
I can't unfortunately, the SC550 ii sold a little bit back. They aren't really THAT different honestly, the biggest things of note are the coil split which is an easy addition to your current guitar, and the finish which I actually prefered the glossy finish on the SC550 ii to the Satin on this one. I feel like with years of use this thing is going to really show it's age compared to the SC550 ii.
@@AudiomoMusic how?
One of the coolest LP type guitars I've ever seen.
It's really slick, I just wish it had a pickguard on it
@@AudiomoMusic I'm never sure about Les Paul pickguards and the weird angle that they sit at.
i was going to buy the black one but i hate the control layout
Its why i couldnt get into ESP eclipses that were made for the American market for many years… the three knobs do look off. I totally get it.
I bought a new CST24, the new model with stainlesssteel frets.... it arrived damaged....a chip on the keyboard and a fret half out of the keyboard that was preventing previous note to be properly played....
Stupid question... does thomann know you have a youtube channel? 90% of my previous guitars from thomann had small/medium issues.... you look way more lucky than me....
@audiomo, the guitar was delivered back to thomann....I'm waiting a replacement now! I wrote them an additional mail telling that my last 3 orders of HB guitars had issues and that I'm expecting now an extra QC prior to shipping :( let's see if I manage to get a fault-free instrument.
I'll keep you updated cause I believe in your transparency but I also would like to expose my issues/experiences cause not all the orders are actually having the same sort of quality.
They absolutely do not care/know that I have a youtube channel. As a matter of fact, I think they aren't even giving me credit for my affiliate links 🤣
Wish you would revisit the Silly Fuzz. It's not supposed to sound like that. I think something went wrong in setup.
Before I read this comment, I was just trying it on bass through an entirely different rig. The results were somehow worse.
@@AudiomoMusic I really appreciate you trying. Are you playing it as directly as possible? Everything else stripped out of the line?
Ive tried it direct into the focus rite, direct into quad cortex with nothing else, direct into the amp with nothing else, and multiple power supplies. It just is what it is, maybe I got a serious lemon.
@@AudiomoMusic I appreciate it. Good to know. 👍
FWIW, the only review for it with HB is a one-star. So it looks like something could be going on with quality. The ministomps appear to be rebranded pedals used by Tomsline (demos online), and their S-Fuzz is a silicon fuzz, but not so "silly" as the one you got.
Nice guitar. Please, tell me, how much kilos guitar weight?
3.53 KG
@@AudiomoMusic Thanks
Hello! So the weight is around 3.5 kg, but is it neck heavy?
Not at all, it's much more like a normal Les Paul than an SG in that sense.
@@AudiomoMusic OK, I was asking because my SC550+ EMG had a strong neck dive...
This guitar will be my first HB guitar, saving up for it right now
I doubt you'll be disappointed, i can't believe how good it is for such a low price.
If you could only pick one.. sc550 2 or sc dlx ?😇
It's a tough call, I think on a singlecut guitar I would prefer the gloss finish over the satin on this because I strum a bit aggressively and know I will inevitably cause many pick scratches that would wear the satin paint off I wouldn't get on a Gibson (no pickguard), but for every other point I'd rather have the SC DLX 👍
I notice in this guitar when you split the hb there is a loss of gain…
Absolutely, I expected that to happen. Part of it isn't so much of it losing "gain" but losing the fullness of the soudn which can be perceived as it so it will naturally sound a little thinner ya know?
Is that a rosewood fretboard I see?
"Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) fretboard" is what they have it listed as, so I'm guessing it's a variation of it.
I bought one, the quality control on it is better than what I have had with $1000 Charvels. The fret work is better, the action is better and sounds just as good. Why people are spending over a grand for a name brand guitar is just stupid.
I genuinely agree and would say I'd never purchase any Mexican made Fender over a Harley Benton like this one or one of the Fusions.
Thomman used to offer $30 DHL shipping to the US, but now their shipping is pretty steep...
Its now 80 dollars per guitar, i ordered another this weekend and said this might be the end of it.
How long does delivery take from Germany?
Thought you were taking a break?
Im not keeping or selling this guitar, it will all make sense when I do the video this weekend.
How can it be that an expert like you has not seen when looking at the electronics that the body IS NOT SOLID but made of PLYWOOD?
Does SG stand for SOLID GUITAR? How can Thomann do a trick of this magnitude?
www.wood-database.com/nyatoh/
Becauae Nyatoh is actually from timber.
hey man, what about a telegram channel when all your fans can discuss about gears and music? Or a discord server?
Expect all that information this weekend, Im excited for all of it!
Nice guitar but I couldnt live with that color.
Weight?
Hey Luisa, it's 7.8LBs or 3.53KG
No biggee about a setup. Many guitars need a setup right out of the box when you buy it from the guitar store down the street.
agreed, especially when it's minimal. I only mentioned it because people expect guitars to show up perfect... as long as there arent MAJOR issues with the guitar this is all totall acceptable
I kinda wish that Thomann would let us costumize theese guitars, so we don't have to deal with the uggly ass golden hardware.
Pot placement is horrendous..., I mean cmoooon wtf
It's a problem I have with a lot of guitars honestly, it's why the PRS Custom 24s are also guitars that when playing can drive me nuts. At least with this Single Cut I'm not worried about a trem and less likely to accidentally move the volume pot down but it's not ideal i agree
Who picked this one?, i didn't!
The pastel colour just don't do the guitar any favours.
Sorry but not for me.
I was also really surprised how many people asked for it, I thought for sure if they were going to request this guitar they'd pick the black one but nope... the blue it is.
@@AudiomoMusic Each to their own, guitars are like cars,
they only look good in certain colours.
I have never liked pastel shades on cars or guitars.
They don't age well, and on guitars with a satin finish looks
terrible when it shows playing wear.
Give me a solid or metallic finish with a good coat of clear
laquer.
I hope whoever wins it picked this colour.
I’m looking for my first guitar. What are the differences between this guitar and the fusion iii has and what would you recommend for a beginner (+amp)? Thank you
They are a bit different honestly outside of just the shape. I think this is the one I would pick for a beginner over the fusion, because there isn't anything you would really feel the need to upgrade later on, it's great as is. Feel wise it's very comfortable and easy on your hands to play. As far as an amp goes, something along the lines of a used Boss katana will do wonders for not a ton of money
