A newfound respect for Paul Reed Smith and why the brands I support matters to me.
Today I talk about helping people out who were impacted by the Hurricane that just happened here in Florida and the southeastern US, and tell a story about PRS that inspired me to make this video about why the older I get the more thought I put into what brands I want to support. We are blessed now being north of Tampa that we did suffer any serious damage from this storm.

Xvive A58 Guitar Wireless System - Simple, portable, no gimmicks.

Today I check out the Xvive A58 Guitar Wireless system! I had no idea PRS had another company that wasn't guitar related. Interesting. I personally don't care for PRS guitars. I believe they're great and nothing wrong with them, but they aren't my style of guitar. I do care about a companies ethos. I do care about what I want too and struggle with the back and forth for what one company stands for versus how it aligns with my ideals. I believe it's a bigger picture versus a single issue that makes enough impact for me to allow it to push me away from a company though. I also won't support a company just because they're pushing something positive or have a philanthropic aspect to their leadership. I mean it matters and is great but or their product isn't good, nah. If their product is good and they are was good company, awesome, bit of I don't care for the products they make, it won't push me towards their products. It is nice to know when companies do align with my personal beliefs though. It feels better buying their products, hands down.

    At least for me, how the company treats their employees and competitors factors into my overall view of their products. It is part of the calculus, but not the primary factor, unless they are just a terrible company with no redeeming qualities. I think Gibson/Fender suing the Japanese companies to keep them out of the US market, only hurt the consumer and made them less competitive, because instead of matching the Japanese, they sued them. This does not make me not want to buy a Gibson or Fender, but it makes me more likely to look at their competitors, esp. the Japanese ones. It tarnishes their image. Can you imagine if the auto industry behaved in the same way.

    Glad you're safe. I didn't know that about Paul Reed Smith but am not surprised. I recall that, early in the Covid-19 pandemic, he and other PRS executives kept US employees on the payroll during shutdown, taking on company debt to do so. (The only PRS guitar I've owned is a 2008 PRS Mira, but it's my favorite). For the question, I do care about the practices and ethics of companies whose products I buy, and it has become more important as I've gotten older. I think of it as, is this the kind of place (and the people) I want to help stay in business? It's an easier question to answer in some industries than others.

      That was another thing we talked about yesterday on the phone, Paul’s eternal gratitude for sweetwater during the pandemic that helped them to keep his employees taken care of in the most uncertain of times. I also agree about the guitar industry being one of the easier industries to go out of your way to pick what you believe is a company worth supporting as we have more than enough options available to us to have that luxury.

    A wild Ampharos appeared! We were lucky that when we were in Sarasota and North Tampa that the biggest storms all veered toward Texas or the Atlantic, or petered out in the Gulf such that only the roads along the coast got flooded by swells. Good to hear you're safe. Paul is still a used car salesman, in my book, but nice to hear he has a heart. Besides, my biggest beef with PRS (since I've never played one) is that some of his mega-fans are totally insufferable! 😹

    We have gotten INCREDIBLY lucky down here in South Florida (Miami in my case), but make no mistake. A cat 4 hurricane is a catastrophe of massive proportions. We had Andrew in 92, which was 2 years before my time, but I have experienced a category 4 hurricane before, and I can tell you it's one of the scariest things you can imagine. I did have a friend replace the battery and there is no place to do that in the usa. I found the parts on amazon and was able to repair it. The did offer a new set for a discount. My friends in the band use line 6 and this works just as good if not better and last a long time with the new batteries. I do like them and the new ones have 5.8 ghz and 150 ft.

    Digging this Jag. I need a Jag. I like the simplicity of it this way. Straight up rock and roll machine now. If I owned it, I'd cut a custom pick guard on my CNC to go over the additional cavity. Make it even more of a one of a kind. I look at it this way - most if not all "famous" guitars have quirks and tweaks to them, that's what makes them special. Rock on Jim and let me know if you want to sell that bad boy.

    When you play 5 to 6 hrs a night, 4 to 5 days a week, comfort is paramount ... the weight of the instrument slung over your shoulder is a big part of that.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic 2 дні тому

      Agreed, as is how you take care of your body and your posture in general. Being in Japan really opened my eyes to that part of it that just doesn't ever get brought up in the west. Smaller guys and even some girls that at most weighed 110lbs playing nightly with 9.5lb guitars and up with zero complaints because they actually take care of their bodies and have been doing it for years. So yeah, the weight of the guitar will have an effect but if you have sh*t posture and don't take care of yourself that's gonna have an even bigger impact.

    Currently, I have 7 guitars, but all my needs can be covered by three as I play in different turnings, hence, different scale guitars too. I already decided to move the other four to a different house so I do not suffer from option paralysis, maintenence, etc. I can't sell as they are left handed and there is almos 0 market for that in my country. Well that plus an acoustic, I meant you gotta have one right? Anyway, if it came to it, I think I would keep an 8 string 30 scale guitar and the acoustic one.

    I actually liked the wireless better. Strictly speaking, each foot of guitar cable you use introduces capacitance and essentially rolls off highs. This may be better or worse for a player's purposes -- some guitarists even like the coiled cables to essentially add extra length and remove high frequencies. As is usual, trying to target slight tonal differences is kind of pointless, anyway, since you have EQ knobs on your amp to compensate in either direction, and playing in the context of a band will cover up the rest!

    • @AudiomoMusic

      I’ve dealt with enough Jaguars to immediately know looking at the pickup itself, but even if I wasn’t the pickguard sticker displayed a different set than what Fender advertised online and Fender when called out on it by me did admit they were not specially voiced at all and that they were in fact pickups that had been in production since 2012. I only trust Fender Japan at this point.
